HTC Task manager or Adv Taskkiller? - HTC EVO 3D

Hi, I think there are more features on the advance task killer app, are some of you using that one instead?

There really isn't a need for a task manager. You would have to work to really need one to free up space.

no need? so much in fact htc has gone out of the way to include one with the evo3d. Like samsung has since the galaxy s? I guess these huys are all wrong?
A task manager is not a bad thing. A task killer is.

Ugh... no need for another one. The included one takes care of everything just fine, even without user interaction.

So it will kill apps automatically? If thats the case, then good by adv task killer...less is more

There's no need to use it honestly. The only thing it's good for is killing **** that's bugging out or frozen. The ~400 or so megs of ram that HTC leaves you for your own stuff is enough for like 20 apps to live in memory. There's no reason to keep the majority of your memory empty, since android will do it for you if it needs it.

Mine after sitting off for about 15 min shows 596MB used and 207MB free in the task manager from the total of 803MB

All are unnecessary.

I may be wrong, but I thought the point of a task killer is to conserve battery. Battery seems more important than RAM for this phone since it has so much RAM included.

The legend goes "if you kill apps it saves battery" but when u kill apps they reopen seconds later,, u want to save battery then figure out why they open in the first place,.may be a push notification type app or service

You can't fully close a few apps with the back button alone. Internet being one of them. Once open it will be open until you reset your phone or kill it
It never touches background apps. Only foreground and frees RAM
It improves battery life.

Task Manager works great for me. I close all programs and the only one that comes back is Launcherpro. Obviously that changes when I open other apps, but when I'm done playing around, I'll kill all apps and pocket the phone.
I like it way more than task killer.

Are any of you using EasyTether with the HTC task manager? I'm worried that some problems I'm having might be caused by it.

On advanced task manager it shows more apps open on HTC its not showing evey app open like spiderman opens a lot by itself

That means the program would just open again.
So it doesn't kill it.

And you are using a task killer/ram optimization app why? Android will kill apps when RAM is low, and why would you need so much free ram?
Please correct me if I misunderstood though. Some devs prefer strict though I believe.

This isn't like task killer app... its not like once of those app u click kill all apps.
I'm just trying apps to get the best battry life out of my phone.
This app actually tweak stuffs unlike other apps. It helps u to get the battery life out of your phone I believe, if you can use it right.
So I was just asking if anyone is using this app and getting better battery life
Im just going to delete this app for now since I don't know how to use it and its draining my battery. If anyone is getting better battery life when using custom roms with it let me know.

its his phone to do with as he pleases...but to answer your question, some apps continuously run in the background (even after you "close" them), and there is absolutely no need for them. They chew up RAM and battery. I use a moderate combination of AutoMemory Optimizer, AutoStarts, and a conventional task killer. I keep my RAM squeaky clean cause thats how i want it. I dont like my OS waiting for it to get to an unnecessary low point before it starts "killing"

Auto killer ... is a tool used to enhance android's internal memory manager ... Unlike its name its not a task killer .. again you can use it to tell android when and how much memory to reclaim ..... I use the preset 'aggressive ', but to fully understand the settings I would suggest you go the the dev's website, he has a lot of useful info on there .....

one will argue that it saves battery my limiting application runtime. another will argue that it takes up more battery because the app keeps starting and stopping. Thats why you should always use a program like "Autostarts", which prevents certain apps from EVER opening in situations that they dont need to be open. If youre getting into task management, that should be your first step before anything else, cause that DOES save your battery.

How to disable apps from running in background

I've some apps downloaded, and they keep running in background draining my battery and data.
I've been using task killer, advanced task killer to kill those apps. But I see them running again.
None of them use services.
Some of the apps are ebay, maps, download manager etc
I do this because I need to save the battery.
Any help ?

You are hurting your battery. Just get rid of the task killer. B/ground = not an issue.

So what you're sayin is, you will receive more (or just as much) battery life if you leave the apps that are running in the background alone?
Hmm...i guess its worth a shot, I don't think I've ever not had a task killer
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Thats exactly what I am saying, and so do all of the developers AND the folks who make Android. Task Killers are not recommended on newer builds of the OS.
When you kill things in the b/ground (which are doing nothing) all you are doing is making you phone re-open them, hence killing battery.

There's no need for task killers. Android has an automatic memory management system which removes the least used task from memory when it is necessary to free RAM.

Wrong. People keep talking about memory when talking about task killers, but they forget about wakelock and CPU hogs.
NEVER use an automatic task killer. Only manually kill tasks that you have to keep around even though they misbehave.
NEVER use a task killer for memory management. Only if an app is hogging CPU or keeping the phone awake.
#1 reason I keep a task killer around - Facebook.

[Q] default memory optimizer.

Alryt, this might be the noobiest question of them all. I just rooted my DX and I cannot seem to find that small little widget which cleared out all the RAM with just one touch. A circular thingy, in which a green bar moved anticlockwise and a cross in the center. Been as searching every nook and cranny for hours now coz I just can't remember from where I got it in the first place, just that its a stock widget. Some help guys?
I dont have stock cleaner optimizer widget.

If you ask me , using task killer to free your RAM is a BAD idea. Android is built in a way as to maximize multitasking. If you must, try supercharger scripts otherwise all these play store apps don't do much except pretty animations.
Even if they do kill process, It's more likely to make your system response slower rather than faster.
Sent from my HTC Desire X using xda app-developers app
Yes. Unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Flowed from my HTC branded muffin...
All these task killers flourish coz of user ignorance about how android works. It is designed to handle memory efficiently on its own. Task killing will meddle with its internal working and will eventually cause adverse effect.
When an app goes into background, the system, after a while, automatically takes a memory snapshot and freezes it. In this state, the app use no processing power. The app is returned to the old state on resume.
And yes, unused RAM is wasted RAM.
Please correct me if wrong.

Task killers needed?

I am wondering if a task killer is needed for my s4. Current try I only use greenify but u feel like with myself ope I got so many different apps it would be beneficial to.kill the ones I'm not currently try using to give more battery and speed. Does android do this by itself and therefore I do not need one or? I did try advanced task killer but when I kill the apps the come right back. Since then I have restored and did not install ATK.
Let me know your opinions
Thanks

That's up to you. Android is pretty good at dumping old apps to free up ram. What a lot of people over look is that the android system keeps apps in memory to make them load quicker when you open them again. The only thing I really do is just clear my apps from the recent screen every once in a while.

Let Android manage things, it's a lot smarter about it than we are.
The only caveat I have in this area is an app called Greenify. I'm using it to make it easier to stop a few apps from running in the background when I'm not using them - in particular an app called "Viki" (provides access to TV/movies from Asia) that is endlessly active in the background for no good reason and keeps my phone from getting into deep sleep. So I tell the Greenify app to hibernate it when I'm not using it, and deep sleep is back and battery life is good again.
But I agree strongly that using "active" task managers that try to manage your apps for you are not necessary, and can be detrimental on Android.

I agree, task killers are stupid. The only other thing I would recommend besides that is android firewall and an automation app like tasker
