I was excited to get 2.3.4 so I can try to get the video gtalk working
It works on a lot of non nexus S phones (my brothers galaxy S for example)
I simply flashed a zip for him, found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793
But trying with the latest CWM for Atrix 2.3.4, I always get status 0 (installation aborted)
I also used Gtalk installer from the market, and it installs fine and I can see video icons but when clicked, the app just disappears and comes back, nothing happens
That link has most of the methods, but the zip I used on a Galaxy S (and works) is attached.
PS: I also flashed the google apps zip successfully, but the Gtalk video still doesnt work.
Lots of mentions of 'GoogleServicesFramework.apk' being the culprit
The front facing camera is probably the culprit here. There are specific versions of Qik for the Atrix, so I'm assuming there would be a specific version of gtalk for us too.
Have you guys even tried the front camera? It's black and white, rotated 90 degrees off and stretched. The front camera for the hk 2.3.4 build is really messed up for now.
i was noticing it was skewed weird, but using qik and yahoo messenger on my wifes end the video looked fine, on my end its rotated weird but in full color
I installed the CWM zip using root explorer (put the 3 files in the right places, googleframework and talk.apk in /system/app and the lib file in /system/lib and change all permissions to rw-r--r--)
I get all the video icons and I can make a voice chat, but the voice chat never reaches the other person (me on a separate account on my computer). When my test account calls the account on my phone the phone does not receive it either.

moto stated that the camera should use the ffc driver in gingerbread (froyo didn't have a built in driver) so i don't think that is the root if the issue

Agreed, once an official USA release version of Gingerbread comes out, that is. I think the dev phone/beta/whatever status of the 2.3.4 leak we have is the problem.

Newest Version of fring will run but error out on video chat.
Yahoo video chat will freeze.
Anyone have any luck getting Tango Video Chat to install or any video chat program to work on their Archos 70 or 101?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can figure this out.
I am in the same boat. Would really like a video chat app cause my wife is always on this and im on my evo
Try this version of fring, it is a older version, but it works for me...
Moved to general as not android development.

Thank you. I really want to avoid Fring but I guess it's better than nothing at all.
I guess nobody is having luck with any of the other video chat apps, so it's not just me.
Hi,
yahoo msg works pretty well, even to other platforms like iphone/pc.
its on market but take care, dont use "yahoo msg droid", that dosent support videochat
Anyone have the apk for the video im add-on? I've tried about 7 ways to get to it on the market and for some reason I can't find it. Even links straight from yahoo's website come up empty... Very frustrating.

I just moved the Video add on over from my Incredible as well as yahoo messenger and tested it out. No go for me. I was able to get video calling working, but the cam on the tablet would not output to the other person. Also the cam feed to the tablet was about 2fps and very laggy. Back to the drawing board. I have no use for fring since I'm trying to go from PC to Tab. Let me know if anyone else gets any where with it.
Sorry I just got my 101 yesterday and did not do enough research. Updated to new firmware .71 and messenger works!

Here are the apk coming together
Yahoo! Messenger video did not work for me
Those files wouldn't connect for me but after much much searching I found an updated Video plugin but I need the Yahoo! Messenger v1.3.1.apk which seems to be the latest version but that file is a ghost (for me) and as always its not in the Marketplace (also for me)(yes I did the "marketplace fix" and yes I reinitialized) so how's about someone post a new messenger apk if not for me then for all like me
Good news guys. I was able to have the latest version of Tango Video Chat installed and it worked well in my limited testing!!
I imported the backed up .apk from my phone and install was smooth. When it asked for a phone number I used the same number that I use for my cell. Got the verification text with no issues.
I had to restart the application a few times for it to pick up my Tango contacts and once it did, I placed a video call to my fiances iphone and it worked like a charm!
There was a slight delay in audio (to be expected) and video quality was a good as our camera would let it be. Playing with the night settings in the built in camera app helps tremendously.
I'm really happy with how things are progressing on my A70.

can you post what version Tango you used or even better yet post the apk file.
I got the version from Market and it installed fine. Even got the contact of my friends samsung epic (which also has tango installed). Was able to initiate call and it rang on her phone but then archos 70 froze.
That's weird, I downloaded tango from the market and installed and ran normally. I'm using an archos 70. It needed a phone number, so I just put my cell number and I ran a test run with my friend and we video chatted, although we were right next to each other.
It was a bit choppy but usable.
Market version works for me also (A70).
With S-OFF now complete, can we flash google video apks on to our E3D's yet?
it works well I think it does. LOL
I went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056793 and downloaded alternate 3, flashed via recovery, then went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13976634&postcount=414 and flashed that via recovery. Signed into gtalk and my video worked. I saw myself via pc gmail gvideo chat. But my desktop had no webcam. so i'll try on my gf's mac pro and get back to you.
Ok, I just tried it it works great!...smooth on 3G too! damnnnnnnnnnnn this blows skype into the water man!
THANK YOU Alpharev and team win! you just justified the reason for buying this damn phone!

on your second link - did u flash the attachment or the one in the post text?
how functional is it for you guys?
I tried one where everything worked great but I noticed that others couldn't tell that I was video capable so I would have to initialize every video chat.
Then others that was fixed but the video was upside down.
Just tried doing that and it works great! although i still cant figure out how to switch camera's and that would be nice. but streaming is pretty clear, especially compared to qik / tango / fring....
If you go to the main thread one of the attachments is talk1.3.nowifi.v2-signed.zip. This is the only one that has worked correctly for me but it does not give you the option to use the rear camera. All of the others I tried flip the video vertically (and put the display in 3D mode when using the rear camera). But I also noticed that when first only installed that it wouldn't show up on other computers that I had video. I think what fixed that was installing a new GoogleServicesFramework.apk from gtalk1.3b.ffc.signed.zip.
i have tried multiple versions... even the 1.3 tool from the market, most result in some type of error (especially ones that allow switching to rear camera) im guessing since we have dual cameras gtalk doesnt know what one to choose, and forces phone to think its in "3D" mode.
MagnusRagnarok (maker of Bl00dyB3AST-3d MOD) pointed me to MoDaCo version
Pros:
-Works on 3G or Wi-Fi
-when i tested with Gmail, gmail saw my phone as video capable
Cons:
-When installing, after getting SU access, it held up on "rebooting" i had to MANUALLY reboot for it to finish.
-NO REAR CAMERA CAPABILITY
other things i noticed that arent really pro's or cons
-after reboot, had to sign into google services again
-works in landscape/portrait
-using the text feature works
all in all i think ill stick with this version even tho there's no rear camera

Here is a link to the app you were talking about. It was very easy.
I can't get the app "HDR Camera" to show up on the market from my rooted eris. I installed the eris market patch and Skype is showing up, so is more than 7 or 8 "US Bank" showing up, but not HDR Camera. Have they dropped out or something? Anyone know what might be going on?
Thanks...
Connortn
i have this one, its HDR Camera+ v1.64. latest version. works for me 100%.
no hdr camera apps show up for me in the market.
Rickyjohn... Do you know how I can get this on my eris? I tried the market patch mentioned here on another post that was suppose to allow me to see all the apps, rebooted, waited till after midnight as they said you need to do sometimes (something about the clock) and still cannot see HDR Camera. I can see it while visiting the market from my laptop, just not my eris.
Suggestions?
just download the apk i provided onto your laptop. sync your phone with your laptop. click and drag the apk onto the root of your sd card. then navigate to the file using a file manager program, i recommend "astro", free from market. click the apk and hit the button "open app manager" and install. and then u good to go! let me know how it goes
Oh! I didn't see the link at the bottom of your post
Will try when I get home.
Thanks...
If anyone is following this thread anymore -- what version of the market are you using and does it recognize the HDR camera app as compatible with the ERIS? I'm on condemndedsoul's cm7 rom. I saw this thread last week and downloaded the app from the market with no problems (cool by the way). Well, now the new market has been forced on me and i can no longer download in the market. It recognizes the app as installed, but if i uninstall it will not let me re-install it, there's just no install button. Same problem on a couple of other apps (facebook, documents to go, android agenda widget). The web market says that the HDR Camera app is not compatible with the device. Your help in diagnosing is appreciated!
In the past no HDR cameras shown up for me in the market. But when i seen your post I looked in the market and WTH!, i have one free and one pro available. So uninstalled the one i had and went in to the market and installed the HDR Camera+ and it works with no problems. Im running GSB v3.8 by workshed. My market version is 2.3.6. And in the web market both the HDR camera apps show up. Your Rom or market version maybe....but just guessing.
As it turned out, it was my rom. All fixed, but thanks for the response!

That's what happens when you use a crappy rom lol
I just downloaded & installed HDR Camera from the market with no issues. Running Condemned v17 S2H.
Anybody get this app to work correctly? Mine just takes three of the same exposure and merges them, but it is supposed to bracket the three shots. Come to think of it, I don't think any eris cameras allow setting exposure, or am I crazy?

Vegan Ginger had that until some of the newer market updates broke them. Who knows if either the ROM has updated with a fix, or there have been more market fixes which changed things.
I decided the camera wasn't important to me (I find the g-tab camera to be worthless anyhow unless you sykpe or other video chat).
I switched ROMs because a working market was more important than my camera (but I agree Flash is a priority as well!)
i like these roms
Vegan Ginger Edition (the newest one) works for me flash apps and browser, camera (not video capture but pictures) {there is no working video chat apps for our tab anyway..yet} I have not tried netflix but am pretty sure it works. and I have had no problems at all with the market however I found a newer market that my tab seems to really like (no market fixes required just a cwr zip.)
I will PM you with all the links

Erm...skype video chat works now.
At least on my TNT Lite 4.4
My 2 cents
I've been using the Vegan Ginger Edition, the newest one and it all works. Netflix, Flash, Camera, etc. My only issue is the audio is not as loud as it is on Flashback or GtabComb. But I pair it to a little bluetooth speaker I picked up and it's great for wacthing Netflix with.

Everything works, no messing around to get stuff working. Plus it is so fast that you need to fasten your seat belt before booting into it or you may get blown out of your chair.
You will need to first flash to a 1.2 bootloader if you are not already there.
No kidding, try it yourself and see.
I've had my S3 for a couple weeks now and my wife is picking one up this evening. I've been looking for a decent (working) application that will do video chat with some of the more known video chat sites (Skype, Oovoo, Gtalk, etc) but so far the three or four i've tried are currently not working.
Has anyone found a working video chat application that will work with our front side camera that is compatible with
So far I've tried:
Skype - call works, can see other users but the app won't activate our camera (lot of posts complaining about this on the skype forums but no official response to date)
Oovoo - application will not even install from the play store (not supported on your device message) - side loading resulted in very sketchy results but the cameras themselves still are not functional
GTalk - I briefly tried this but couldn't get the video to actually connect. Found other posts on other forums with people complaining about the same issue.
I know that the T-mobile flavor comes with Qik's however that doesn't seem to support anything but others using the "Qik" service.
I'm sure these will receive more support as the phone matures but this was one of the points my wife was looking forward to in order to chat w/ her family.
Thanks
Have you tried Tango?
Google Talk works absolutely fine for me with both front and rear camera and special effects etc.
Tried G+ hungout

I'll have to take a look at tango and try gtalk again.
If there is at least one working one that should at least appease the wife long enough for the other ones her family uses to catch up w/ the phone....
Thanks guys
oovoo
I have not been able to try oovoo, however it can be downloaded from the Samsung apps, app that comes installed on the sgs 3, you may find that this works ok
I use Skype with the front and rear cameras absolutely perfect on my s3. Try reinstalling and on the first startup there's a pop up that states its not a supported device but it will attempt to use the cameras if u grant it permission. Click yes and try it.

Yahoo Messenger and Google Talk worked for me. I haven't tried anything else yet.

I have yet to come across a video chat app that doesn't work.
If your having problems I read somewhere that people with this problem reinstalled viber on their phone and everything magically started working.
Don't know if it's true but it might work.
