I noticed that the back of the case does not include a glass to cover the two cameras. Since the camera's position is stick out, i'm sure that this place will be prone to scratches/cracks.
What are some accessories that will protect this part? Or is it possible to switch out the clear cover on the lens in case they break?

How well does the defender fit on there my last defender I was using for the evo seemed to have a gap in it never felt like it sealed right. Never felt tight on on the phone. Buttons were a pain to push.
Hoping ballastic pumps a case out soon and Trident does another Kraken
got the otterbox as well; its like sex but in case format

Yup! Got one yesterday & has a built in front screen protector Be prepared for the cost tho!
Reaper24: The fit is very snug, no gaps, buttons function normally. I don't particularly care for the extra bulk; however, because I work for the Transit Authority & is in tunnels & switiching trains all the time, I can't afford a drop to my precious EVO on a subway Platform!!! I've seen the results of that from too many co-workers....devastating!
You can also get a tpu case that covers most of the camera area surface (one with 3 cutouts for cameras/flashes...like the ones at tpu-cases.com) and makes it so the lenses are recessed a little bit. This adds some protection while not adding as much bulk as an otterbox defender (good case though if you need that much).

Just a quick survey of you fascinate users:
Do any of you use cases? I have been for the life of my phone, but I really like how it feels with out one.
For those of you without, how has the build of your phone stood up? Any damage?
I do have the Seidio case and holster for mine. I switch back and forth between using it and not. I only use the holster for when I mountain bike to protect the screen though. I don't have any major damage besides scratches on the battery cover so far.
I use a tpu skin case I got at the Verizon store for like 15 bucks....no screen protector....
It kept wanting to slide outta my hand so I got the case for grippiness and it doesn't add much thickness

I was using a solid plaid case, but the case itself damaged the battery cover. I recommend getting a soft case if possible. I'm currently using Samsung black wallet case; great design and comfort
I don't use a case at all cause I don't like the bulk... I've had the phone for over a year and no problems yet.

Over a year huh? So you were fortunate enough to get your hands on one 6 months before it was released? Props to you on that...
No case here. I use a ZaggSkin on the back and that's it... Minimal bulk, battery door protected, with a little extra grip to boot.
I use the Verizon wireless shell/holster combo. Texturized shell goes on the back of the phone, phone slides into the holster with the shell on, completely protected. And the inside of the holster is felt so the screen doesn't get scratched. Keeps the phone protected, but adds minimal thickness.
Otterbox, commuter. Looks nice gives the phone a good feel without adding too much weight.

Seidio case here. Without the case, the phone seems slightly too thin for me to hold easily so I prefer the extra bulk.
No case/holster here. I dont like the added bulk of one, screen protectors are a tad redundant considering our gorilla glass screens, and any damage to the battery cover can easily be remedied by buying a new one. Im usually good about protecting my phone, but the dings and nicks are definitely starting to add up.

Never used any screen protector or case since September. Only place that has wear us the plastic chrome near the micro USB port. Although it would be nice to get a textured battery cover. This thing is like a wet bar of soap if u have dry hands.

I highly recommend any silicon case.
It might be little bulk to you, but it saved me from drop.
I dropped my SF screen facing down from 3ft and I had just Case on, but i picked it up and it didn't even have 1 little scratch.
TPU case. No screen protection. Gives me the grip needed to keep from dropping with little bulk. removes in .5 seconds to pull batt if I need to.
Anyone know of a decent rugged case with holster that still allows you to text easily? I have the otter defender which is rugged but typing on it sucks because the case comes into the the screen to tightly. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I use the Seido/ Pt Convert. I had the Otterbox Defender and didn't like and returned it to Best Buy after a day. Got the BB branded Convert and I like it so far.
Im using the defender also and can type with no issues what so ever.
Maybe you need a dialing wand???
I have the same question. I got rid of the defender for the same reason.
I have the same problem with the defender, I'm returning it and getting the Balisics HC when it come out for the 3D.
Sent from my E3D using Tapatalk
The Defender is much better than I expected. This issue is my main issue with the case.
I dont have any issues with the defender at all...and I have fat fingers...so...its more a matter of preference than anything.. the high sides arent an issue for me at all
I have the Defender also, typing on it is a pain. The Q and P are very difficult to get at. My girlfriend has the same issue and she has tiny fingers.
I hope the ballistic case will be better.
My only issue with the ballistic is i didnt always need the outer rubber layer on my phone. Only when in extreme conditions. Well without the outer layer on alot of the buttons and ports are exposed. And the ballistic for the 3d looks to have the same issue. If you look at the right side of the innercases on the ballistic page for the evo3d youll see that the camera button and the 2d/3d button is exposed. And im willing to bet that just like the og evo the audio jack and charging port is exposed to. This was a problem because dust would pile up in those areas. This is why i chose the otterbox defender bc even outside the holdster every area is covered. Now obviously with the extra silicone layer on the ballisic on the phone it would definitely be able to take a longer or harder fall then the otterbox but the ballistic case outside the rubber silicone case i actually think is worst then the otterbix defender. Me and my co worker had a habbit of falling as sleep with our phones in our lap in our work van and when wed get out the phones would go flying. My hard balistic case would actually pop open everytime and scuffed on the corners. His otterbox had the soft rubber outside layer which absorbed the falls better never scuffed or popped open. This is just my opinion though i have had both cases and seen them in action not just on the phone
Buddy of mine preordered the ballistic case and was wondering when it was gona be shipped. He called ballistic and they cant give em a definite answer. If you go to there website the ballistic hc is gone

I also received mine yesterday. It is a great case so far. I just don't want to take off my Zagg shield cause of the protection and also the hassle but the case has a screen protector built in so I left it on and the screen just has a funny sticky look to it but this is due to a preference of me not wanting to take my screen protector off.

i just saw some pics of it on the link somebody else provided... gotta say im not to impressed with the build design for it... looks like they kinda rushed it. i used to use the hc ballistic for my og evo and that was an amazing case, this one not so much lol
I purchased the Ballistic Hard Case and for my large hands it fits very nicely. My review of the Ballistic Hard Shell Case...
The thing I like most about this case that I did not like about the Defender is that the defender I could not click on keys or buttons at the edge of the screen without some trial and effort. The Ballistic is a bit bulkier due to it's design it does not effect my pressing buttons or typing at all I can actually see the 2-3 centimeters of the black edges around the screen meaning I can now play my games without killing myself to hit the buttons or use the keyboard without effort to press keys like o and p when I was in non-landscape mode. The kickstand does feel flimsy and appears it will pop off but treat it carefully and it should be ok. And last but not least the plastic protective screen covers the entire front of the phone unlike the Defender which had a gap that lint and dusts always seemed to find it's way into. I give it a 3.5 star more if the kickstand was of a heavier quality. What matters is the touching of the screen freedom of movement which the Defender SEVERELY lacked but this one does not.
htcEVO9 from someone that has used a Ballistic Case how much does this one differ? I am really curious as the only other case I have seen is the Defender.

i do not have the hc ballistic case for the 3d, but when i had it for the og evo i loved it, superior build quality and like u said the buttons were very easy to push which made it a huge plus. the kick stand was incredibly flimsy that and the silicon piece that was used to cover the headphone jack never really sat in place properly, those being the only 2 real drawbacks of the case. compared to the otterbox defender i would choose ballistic over otter any day, ive seen ppl drop otter boxes about 3-4 feet and the phone still gets damaged, whereas i have dropped mine over 10 ft and thrown it just to prove how superior the ballistic is the otter.
as for the ballistic 3d from what i have seen the interior case deff looks like it is designed to protect the phone, but i cant say the same for the silicon skin, build quality deff looks like its lacking, looks poorly done is what im getting at. but if you can get over the physical appearances then i am sure that the case is still much better than an otterbox.
There on ebay for $34 maybe ill give it a shot. Ill keep my defender just incase. Only problem is ive dealt with otterbox and ballistics customer service before and otterbox service is 100 times better then ballistics

that may be so, but with an otterbox i found myself calling into their customer services numerous times to complain about the silicon skin stretching whereas with the ballistic case i never had to call it once lol
I love my Evo LTE, it is an awesome phone! When I bought it though I received the horrible news that TEP from Sprint had gone up as well as the Asurion Deductible. Normally I don't like cases because I like to keep my phone sleek but with this in mind I had to buy one. I opted for the OtterBox Commuter (I bought on Amazon for a little over $20 shipped). So I thought I'd hit you guys up with a review just in case anybody is on the fence about what case to get.
Overall:
I liked the tight fit, the good amount of protection without the bulk, and the fact that the kickstand is perfectly accesible and usable in both directions Plus it's relatively cheap. Check attached images. I had no problems with any of the cutouts for microphone or the back camera. Also the charging port and headphone jack coverings worked fairly well. They were a bit bothersome, mainly the headphone jack, depending on the size of the plug but overall they're pretty good.
Fit:
I must say this case has a TIGHT fit on my phone! It is not loose anywhere and the silicone is actually pretty tight on there unlike other two layer cases I've tried. It is tight enough that no dust has gotten underneath it to the case which I hate when cases do that! Also all the buttons are unaffected by the case and I like the feel they have with it on. Oh and the kickstand can still be used both ways, port up or down!
Size:
The case hasn't added much bulk at all. I still think this phone is pretty thin with the case on. I took a picture next to an Evo 3d with no case on just for size comparison and as you can see, this case adds little to no bulk.
Protection:
I feel my phone is pretty well protected. I already got past the 1st scary fall yesterday when I dropped it running down some stairs :/ but my phone was not harmed at all, neither was my case. Obviously it's not meant to be a hardcore heavy duty run over with a car case (as rumored with some Ballistics) but it's a good balance between protection and keep it thin.
Screen Protector:
I personally don't like screen protectors too much. It seems unnecessary for this phone with Gorilla Glass but it's still a nice gesture for it to be included. I installed it for demonstration purposes since many people with screen protectors had problems with proximity sensor. The protector included in the case had the cutout for the proximity sensor which was definitely a plus. I also noticed it's a pretty hard screen protector and feels almost like bare glass, but I still don't plan on keeping it for long lol
The Bad:
The only bad thing I've found so far is that the silicone is a little bit of a dust magnet. It hasn't gotten too serious to where it bothers me but it's just something to note.

This is what I hate about silicone. Also, it ends up making it difficult to pull out of your pocket because of how sticky/tacky it is. Thanks for the review.

I dont normally like to put cases on phones either but this phone...i dont know I had the overwhelming urge to put a case on it. Now i was going to go wit ha normal regular hard shell case off of ebay for 5 bucks but..no.. not this time. I got the otterbox commuter aswell. Truth be told I was worried about the silicone not fitting perfectly but to my surprise it fits damn well. Plus the case feels good in the hand. I actually like how the phone feels with the case on. i did put the screen protector on because look at it this way. $600 phone with ''gorilla glass''..... youre really not going to do anything to protect it? Gorilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. My opinion is youve gotta have a few screws loose if youre not going to put a screen protector on the phone.
over all great case, feels good, doesnt add bulk.
The defender however...makes the phone huge
I rocked my OG for two years with every rugged case u could think of and never worried about the phone. The last month I had the phone I had it naked as all of my cases were breaking on me. I loved how great the Evo felt naked and how easy it was to slip it into my pocket. Anywho, I ended up dropping it and shattering the screen. I bought the new Evo and slapped the Commuter on it before leaving BB. I thought the Defender was way too big for pocket use (I'm over the belt clip thing). It maintains the sleekness of the OG Evo, so, I love it! The included screen protector is pretty good too surprisingly. Not a single complaint from me!
Yeah I have actually kept this case on and been loving it. The case adds a really nice feel to my phone and I honestly like the look it gives my phone. I have yet to try the defender but when I do ill do a write up on it as well

I love the review. I'm actually about to switch from the defender to the commuter case. Getting tired of the extra bulk and the rubber on the defenders seem to tear rather quickly. I had the same tearing prob when I had a defender on my e3d. Had the e3d defender replaced twice. So again thanks for the review picking up a commuter case tomorrow.
Bought the same case as soon as I got my phone, beat case hands down still nice and thin the dust magnet I agree but its protective and not heavy ! It was cheap too off amazon. The port cover is clever

Received my sg case in the mail today review of what I recieved..upon opening the box I remembered why I haven't purchased a ballistic case in a while..it's the same product ive always expected..being that I'm a mechanical engineer I come into contact with plenty of dirt and dust..but being that a galaxy note has a stylus we will never be 100% dust an dirt proof..screen protecor seems like a nice idea bit it is quite thick and keeps the screen from being very responsive, clip seems to be made of better material than usual so I'm hoping it can withstand some use..rubber body corners protect from drops very well although the material seems to be pretty cheap these days and with just a few on and offs is going to stretch I can already tell..The outer she'll along with the runner body is going to protect your note 3 very well that I can say, rubber rockers are easily accessible and very easy to control, 3.5mm headset covet fits into place with rubber grommet, provides no protection for speaker and stylus so they are completely left exposed which is a downside with this case, I'm not feeling all of the exposed holes with this case so for that reason I am going to be looking for another case that is more contained. One thing i do like about this case is the rear camera protection, the camera is sunk pretty far into the case.If you are just looking for a clip with drop protection and you aren't going to be taking this on and off a lot then this is the easiest way to go
It's a good case until a few weeks from now when the rubber skin stretches out and no longer fits the phone tight. This is the main flaw in this case and the otterbox defender cases. Really too bad...

Never had any issues with Otterbox Defenders, but then again I always wear those big, rugged, army/swat cargo pants with huge pockets. The phone just drops in my pocket, I don't have to push it in. I guess it always depends on people's usage.
You know if the rubber gets stretched out and starts to not fit there's a trick about taking the rubber portion off and sticking it in a pot of boiling or very hot water for a minute or two will supposedly shrink the rubber back down to where it fits snug again at least in my experience with the otterbox defender cases.
I could see that's working..yeah I'm looking forward to the otterbox..I don't take cases off very often so I'm not worried about them getting stretched
Neither do I. Still waiting for the black version to be released. ..

^THIS 1000 TIMES. I see all the time people saying it stretches. Boiling WORKS.. maybe too well.

Where and how are people getting these cases, they still "coming soon" from what I can see on ballistics site. I just got an email yesterday, the 29th, about the Shell Gel SG being available, only to learn that people have been ordering them since the 26th...
Looks nice! Last Ballistic case I owned was for the OG Evo 4G. I never had any problems with it stretching, or any Otterbox cases that I've owned for my last 4 phones. I don't wear skinny jeans, or even semi tight jeans for that matter, so maybe not having to push/pull it in/out of pockets has something to do with the fact that I haven't had any issues. Also, both Ballistic and Otterbox offer a lifetime warranty, so if the case ever does happen to stretch out over time you can get it replaced for free...

Great case for people who drop there phone everyday.
If you happen to drop your phone once, the cost of the case is far less than the deductible. I learned this the hard way with my note 2.
