Converting Your SBS 3D Videos for playing on 3VO - HTC EVO 3D

For those of you who have a collection of SBS (side by side) MKV files for your 3D HDTV or whatever...her is the method for converting them for the EVO 3D.
Sorry if this has been posted somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
First use Handbrake to convert the MKV files to .mp4 or .m4v
Instructions here:
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc-evo-3d/evo-3d-guides/835578/how_to_convert_videos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html
Then drop the files in a folder called Video on your SD Card (probably work in any folder but this is what i did).
Use your GALLERY app to browse videos in the folder you created. Play the video. It will look regular (just two pictures side by side) but if you press MENU then VIEW IN 3D...voila...you're watching your downloaded MKV on your EVO 3D.

thanks. worked perfectly.

I haven't come across many SBS rips though.. even on scene releases..

search for "SBS"

could somebody downlod this small clip http://www.filesonic.com/file/1002476974 and playback in evo 3d? please let me know doestt work in 3d

Thanks for the tip! Don't know if anyone else has ever upgraded their TV to support their phone before...LOL

Looks great to me.

"The EVO 3D does not like video file sizes over 2GB (the settings in Step II should help insure that the file size is kept under 2GB)"
did any one check this? does it mean I have to split every movie? It can be biger than 2 gb?

no chance I converted avatar 3d 1080p(11.8GB) fallow this instruction >>> http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html and converted clips has got over 4GB

So I found a nice steady supply of SBS mkv hd rips, which play when I open them in astro quite nicely. Unfortunately the audio is coded in AC3 which doesn't work. Anybody know a way to easily convert the audio stream to mp3 in an all in one method?

Could someone please post a link to one of there movies I would live to see how this looks but I don't have any 3d movies. Pm me if needed. Thanks

Did you use Handbrake?
I'm currently converting a few similar 10+ gig 3D mkv files right now at 960x540, I think it was.
Or did you convert them at a lower pixel setting?

When converting in Handbrake where it says audio, you'll have to change the audio output from AAC or whatever to 'Stereo'.
Its in that KnowYourCell link.
I don't have my 3VO yet so this is just from what I read.

I'm having a lot of trouble trying to convert them. I'm on Windows 7.
Has anybody converted any 3D movies with DVDFab & gotten them to play on the Evo3D successfully?
All I've seen so far work are the videos shot on the Evo itself & very few side by side Youtube3D ones

I took a 3D Side by Side MKV of Clash of the Titans, and used Handbrake to convert it into a 960 x 400 MP4 and it plays flawlessly. All you have to do is hit Menu and "Play in 3D" when you play it through Gallery. I have not tried any other formats or over/under versions of 3D either. I will post my results with my next movie.

Save this to the computer, copy to the phone. Open with the gallery, hit settings and play in 3d mode.

You think you could post a screen cap of the settings you used to down convert the video file?
And those were originally side by side mkv files, correct?
Thanks again for sharing.

I just used DVDFab to convert an episode of Merlin from 2D to 3D and it actually did a pretty decent job of it! I'm going to try a more feature length movie next.
I have version 8.0.9.2 if that helps, running on Windows 7.

Convert 3D video to 2d video?

Is there any software out there that can do this? I don't want to see two side by side videos on my computer when I view the movie I recorded.

when you "share" the video, it will ask you if the device you are sharing to is a 2d or 3d device.
edit: wait, I guess that only works for pictures.
I am wondering the same thing. If you upload a 3D video to YouTube, it gives you options to just watch in 2D from either camera angle, but no option to export just one camera view....rather frustrating. Anyone have a solution?
I'm looking for an answer to this as well. I took 3d video but someone wants a copy but i cant send it to them since they dont have 3d. I thought the "share as 2d" would pop up but it didnt for videos,...only pics.

This thread is now geared towards gathering insights, ideas, and experience to create the best 3D video for our Evo 3Ds.
If you have best practices for formats 3D movies for this device please share.

Has anyone figured out how to format the 3D Movies for the EVO 3D?
How about get the movie to start in the 3D mode on the Media Player?
The Evo plays mpeg4 in 3d I believe. But heres a thread about converting videos.

As sleekgreek said, it's to do with the tags in the mp4 file.
the framepacking tag needs to be set to 3 for SBS L&R movies. it's either 4 or 5 for top and bottom, but i can't remember for certain.
You can use videolan's X.264 encoder to do that. but that only puts out H.264 video, so you'd need to then use something else to do your audio and then combine them again into one mp4 container.
the command for x.264 is:
Code:
x264 --frame-packing 3 -o [Input].mp4 [Output].mp4
but like i said, this is video only, so remember to use whatever other tools you use to encode the audio and then recombine.
handbrake

Using handbrake: use x264 codec, go to "advanced" tab and add
":frame-packing=3"
without quotes into the command box at the bottom. For the other setting just try what best suits your needs.
The file must be .mp4 (just rename) in order to have the 3d/2d switch, this way you can see 2d in right way!
Hit thanks if you've found this useful.

[Q] Uploading Movies to Evo 3D

Was wondering if there was a way to upload movies that I already own onto the device.

Yeah use NERO or any other product that converts dvd's into .avi's and mount your sd card to your computer and add the movie to videos folder
another awesome program (for computer) is "youtube downloader" I found out it does vimeo videos as well. Rips it straight to .mp4 h264
A tad off topic but had to get that out
You could use DVD decryp then use movie converting software

MPG and AVI are not video formats, they are containers. It's the codec that matters.

3D streaming from PC to Evo

Hi there!
I got my new Evo 3D today, now I'm trying to play a 3D Bluerayrip on it.
For the SD card is the Movie to big. I found a Streaing method, but on this the movie is not in 3D, I only see the two Stereoscopic pictures. Switching to 3D isn't there.
How i can watch the movie on the Evo?
thanks a lot =)
Only the stock movie player app has the 3d button. You would need to convert it to a file version supported by the stock app. Can the stock app load streams?

what streaming method did you find? I was hoping to do this same thing as I've taken so much 3D video I've had to move it to my PC and I've thought maybe I can watch it on my phone via streaming! I know that the YouTube app can play streaming feeds in 3D, but that's off YouTube. maybe if someone can make it able to read streams from other addresses!
You can stream in the gallery app. Just select 'media servers' from the dropdown at the top.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Download handbrake and add the metadata ":frame-packing=3" to your movie file, it will take a few minutes, then try streaming again, it will automatically be on 3D(remember to use mp4 file type, no need to use a different player.
(PlayStation3 Media Server works great with DNLA)

The streaming method should matter. If the video is encoded as a SBS (side by side) picture, the 3d should recognize it and turn the 3d screen on.
