[Q] Radio Help?!?!? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I flashed to gb, rebooted into bootloader and flashed the mr2 radio. Now I can only connect to 1x. Does anyone know why I can't get 3g or even 4g data?

you have to flasjh the radio in hboot. make sure its named right and on sd card root directory. turn off, hold power and volume down and apply update

Just for a little more clarity...
I always like to flash GB radios before I flash into a GB ROM, but I suppose it can be done vice versa. Just make sure that the radio is named "PG05IMG.zip" on the root (not in ANY folders) of your SD card, and then like Viper said, hold your volume down and power buttons until you boot into bootloader (from an off-powered state, that is), wait for bootloader to find the update, and press volume up to update. If that still doesn't work, I'd suggest wiping data/cache/dalvik, flashing back to Froyo, re-updating your radio on the Froyo ROM, re-wiping data/cache/dalvik, and re-flashing your GB ROM. Hope this helps!

I think I know what the problem is.. When I get into hboot it finds the update then i begin it. It starts but there is only two things that get updated.. its something then Radio_v2 or something like that..isnt there supposed to be more things to update?

No sir, when updating a radio there are only 2 things updated. To achieve root and s-off, there are many more. But if you saw those two items and they were successful, then your radio did indeed update.

Not likely, the SIM card doesn't handle anything like that. Have you tried wiping, flashing back to froyo, upgrading the radio in froyo and then wiping and flashing back to gingerbread?

Try reverting back to a Froyo radio on a Froyo ROM, and see if you have any issues with data connection. If not, then place the MR2 or MR2.5 radio on the root of your sd card, naming it PG05IMG.zip, restart to bootloader, flash the radio, restart your device, you will have no service, then reboot into recovery, wipe everything three times and reflash your ROM.

Yes you could have a bad SIM card. The SIM card is what gives you access to the data network (CDMA and LTE). Did this data problem happen as you were changing ROM's or just start out of the blue?

I didn't know that! Sorry for the misinformation earlier Viper!
In that case, maybe you could try powering down, removing your battery, and removing then re-seating your SIM? If that doesn't work then the issue may run deeper than just the ROM/Radio level, however I don't see why that would be the case considering you have not had a data problem before... Or have you?
EDIT: By the way, what Froyo ROM did you flash and what GB ROM are you flashing?

No, this is my first problem

If anything, try flashing the stock rom that came with the phone. If your issue persists, you may have to unroot and go back to verizon.

you should just be able to call verizon and tell them you need a new sim card. they are 6 bucks I think. They will notify the store that you will be coming in to pick one up. Just remove your sim card and take it into the store, leave your phone in the car and tell the rep's that you left your phone at home charging because the battery was dead (thats not a stretch lol)

[Q] Experiencing random reboots

After sometime my cell phone is rebooting all times.
If it goes idle and I press the button to wake it, it reboots.
I've used some custom roms including CM7.
After I restored to my original firmware which is Claro Brazil, it keeps rebooting all time .
Anyone know what can I do? I even sent it to motorola and they don't do a thing. All they say is that it don't have any defect .
Thank you
Jayson
Did it start rebooting after you after you restored to the original firmware,
or did you restore to the original firmware to try to fix the reboots?:

I restored to original to try to fix and it keeps rebooting.
I've flashed that build of ICS of dev thread and it seems to be rebooting less times.
How did you flash the rom?
Are you using romracers recovery?
Did you do a full wipe before flashing the rom?
You might make sure you have romracers latest recovery,
and then run this script for a full wipe:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421261&highlight=moto-fastboot+script
and then load a new rom and see if that fixes it.
You can also flash the Kernel and the radio too.

First I installed IHOP_Bell.sbf with sbf_flash to be able to unlock with moto-fastboot. After that did install CWM.
All my roms are installed with CWM with its cache/data and stuff wipe.
How can I know the right kernel and radio for me?
Same for me. I think this is a radio issue, where can we find lastest radio? Do we need to flash it like rom via RR CWM?
Thanks.
I get random reboots all the time. I was thinking it was a problem with wireless or bluetooth... Last time it rebooted was this morning, I docked it before going to bed, and 5 minutes later i hear the double-ding of it mounting internal storage at boot. At the time it wasn't running anything but the dock-widget clock.
I've had it reboot while on the bus listening to music with the phone in my pocket, I've had it reboot while docked and sitting idle, but youtube and flash are the real killers while actually using the phone, for me at least.
I find it reboots less if I leave wireless and bluetooth off, but what is the good in that?
I've had the random reboots probably since I upgraded to gingerbread, but even moreso after Bell 2.3.6 OTA.
I wonder if there is a way to prevent it from rebooting, so we can see what actually causes it to spontaneously reboot.
Im getting random reboots too, but figured it was from the build of CM7 i'm running (23-Nov. Was thinking of doing a full wipe then reload sometime this week. will report my results.
Hi!
Same thing happened to me. What I did was, I flashed to a different radio for it to be fixed. The stock doesn't seem to work on mine and I can't have signal reception.

I've already did it without success.
Now I'm trying this new Radio:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175750
N_01.100.00R
because I'm pretty sure it is a Radio issue.
I previously had N_01.95.00R wich seems to be an Asian Radio that probably (hopefully) doesn't work properly here.
I will tell you if it will fix the problem.
Hi there,
I also have random reboots on my Atrix.
Till now, I tried to change rom, recovery, reset data factory, use no apps, etc. But it never worked, and the reboots are still happening without any logical explanation.
I'm also thinking about a Radio problem, mine is : N_01.100.00R
I'll try changing it this evening, maybe it will fix things.
I'm trying a new radio too.
It didn't reboot yet.

[Q] Reverted to GB Firmware, Now having data issues

Okay I ran the s-off tool last week and had success . Then I decided to get off the ics leaked firmware and revert to the gb firmware.
I began experiencing issues with both my wifi and data disconnecting after a period of time. I have tried running the ruu in a exe and zip format and neither have fixed the problem. I also have tried doing a factory reset and clear storage from hboot immediately after the ruu was installed. No luck.
Not sure what the problem is here. Lol. I haven't seen anyone having problems going from ics back to gb. Am I missing something?

Hmm, I just finished reading the whole post, everyone else seemed to be fixed by doing the factory reset and clear storage. I reverted and haven't had any issues, granted I am just in 3g land so don't think 3G was an issue . Is it a problem while on the stock rom or just when you flash a custom rom ?

That's because the radio is on, but just because the radio is on doesn't mean you have a data connection.
Isn't there a known issue with flashing back to GB firmware and losing data?

[Q] Suddenly roaming with full bars and triangle on top

I think i might have got to comfortable with my phone and possibly screwed something up in the process.
I recently have been Installing and Removing various ROMS on my phone so I can find one I am happy with and stick to as a DAILY.
I recently deleted from the SD Card all the folders in it besides DCIM, MUSIC, and my own Media. I figured its just an SD Card even if I removed it the phone should still operate. But I haven't touched anything Internally on the phone itself. Just always making CLEAN installs before installing ROMS under Amon Ra WIPE ALL. Which it skips my SD.
So for some reason now I have no Mobile Network on my phone it says its Disconnected. It also shows Full bars but with a TRIANGLE
over it now. I want to go back to regular data. I have a Nandroid Backup of my HTC Rezounds FACTORY ICS Build. While it help if I reverted to that? and started over with the ROM I like?
Have you tried long pressing on Mobile Network in settings and seeing if you it shows LTE/CDMA?
It does, and it is selected.
Take a look at this.
I found a way to take it off of ROAMING. In system select I switched the CDMA ROAMING MODE from Automatic B (I think it was) to Home.
I have a feeling it has something to do with a rom I installed last night. MIUI it might have change some options in the phone internal system
to thinking its not in the US. Im running stock ICS HTC at the moment from my NAN backup of Amon Ra. But at the moment its showing FULL SIGNAL BARS
& then seconds later no Signal Bars with an X over it. The verizon wireless rep told me that I was connecting to their SERVERS. I can also make calls but only under Automatic B settings in Roaming.
Im not sure what to do at this point. I wish there was someway I could reset the phone SIGNAL OR DATA OR CONNECTION SETTINGS or radio or something. o DEFAULT. I even reset back to my NANDROID Backup and WIPED all before I did that and I was still having the same problem. It doesnt make sense to me unless its a TOWER near by that is Out of order.

You always have the option of flashing a RUU and with that putting your phone back to bone stock.

i would say start from scratch, flash the global ruu twice, pull the. zip followed by a factory reset. thats what I would do, if I was in your shoes.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Or reflash your ROM. If you can do a dirty flash you can just flash over it and I think you won't lose your set up. That should restore any necessary folders/files if that's the issue.
Oh! What about this... Format it in recovery or via your phone in settings. Since there's that option it should put whatever is needed on there.
If you can't tell, I'm just brainstorming here... I don't know what the files and folders are but seems to me formatting it from within the phone should work or why would you be able to do it?
EDIT: I just reread your post where you posted the pic. I guess you probably have more issues than just the ext sd. Probably best to RUU it and get back to stock and start from scratch. Then you know it's all good and clean.
Thanks

You don't need to factory reset after running the RUU, it puts it all back to factory stock anyway. Relock before you run it:
fastboot oem lock
And after it's done you'll need to unlock again and flash a recovery, root, then flash custom rom.

Are you S-On or Off? If S-On, your nandroid may have missed a file that is necessary that can only be replaced by flashing a RUU. Just throwing ideas against the wall.
If I remember correctly, a nandroid from S-On can't touch the kernel and coming from MIUI there may be files that are missing or modified.
In that case, you may be able to pull the stock boot.IMG from the RUU you were on and push that to restore the files.

Another funny thing is I've before restored my Nandroid backup when I needed it with a ROM I had that was Unstable and it was working like it should I was back to normal.
Im thinking it has something to do with their towers in my area. But I called a friend that has Verizon as well and he seems to be handling alright.
I just dont get it. Im going to try that RUU flash and see if that works after I eat dinner and possibly relock my phone.

Quoted the wrong post this is for the zip files.
You should only have to shorten the name to PH98IMG. All the RUUs I've seen are some longer name (usually the name of the site hosting them_PH98IMG.)
Then just place it on the root of your external SD and boot into Hboot.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Are you still working on this?
You should be able to RUU from a zip file. Just make sure it's named PH98IMG.zip, put it on your card and then boot into hboot. It should find that file and run it. Let it run through a few times, do its thing and it should reboot when it's done.
I came back here cuz I just ran across this post from another thread:

So that guy is using his phone normally without the external card. What happens if you boot up with the external card out of the phone?
I think it has something to do with the hardware on my phone that started not functioning. I did try going into recovery wiping the whole phone wiping my sd card and then placing the zip file in my sd card. I then booted into H boot and from ADB locked my phone rebooted and then it started to read the zip file and reinstalled to factory reset. I let it reinstall the files let it do its thing it restarted a couple of times reinstalled everything needed went back into the lock screen and was still having the same issue till now. But it's okay because I called Verizon Wireless spoke with him on the phone and I still have my extended warranty on the phone and they concluded that it was a hardware issue so I got to replace my phone for free lol

Go to phone dialer and put *#*#3646#*#* then go to phone information. Look for a drop down menu and make sure its on CDMA/LTE Only (or anything really with CDMA and LTE in it, that specific one may not show up on your list depending on what ruu your on.) That changes the specifics of how the radio operates incoming connections. Set your data settings back to HOME and turn off roaming. Lemme know if that works.

Try reflashing a kernel. Might try stock first, then maybe Elkay's or dsb's writeable.
In case you're doing it a different way, try flashing it this way: flash the boot.img using the Flash Image GUI app. Then flash the corresponding modules for that specific boot.img kernel (can't mix and match) in Recovery.
If that doesn't help the situation, you may need to flash a different radio.
HTH!

Perhaps you accidentally flashed your radio partition? Reflash your radio and you'll probably be good to go. Either that or like someone else said try a different sim card.

If you are getting com.android.phone fcs. then reflash ruu, DL' a rom of choice on your computer and transfer using ADB push (will take a second) . reboot to bootloader. flash boot.img, boot to recovery, flash modules, then flash custom rom. when phone reboots, wait about 45 seconds before running setup. If this process still does not work, please report back. Or PM me or another RC so we can figure it out for you in a quick manner.
Well this morning I switched to CWM recovery and loaded Digital Dream 1.5 and I'm back working. Thanks for everyone's help.

Yeah so it was a rom issue then
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using XDA Premium HD app
Not a Rom issue, I've had the problem on viper and hatka, both before and after soff and new radio. New kernel, old kernel.
I'm getting ready to try stock 1.15 before I ruu.. will report back.
Edit: Fresh off RUU, with the old radios flashed before the RUU. Still no change. Tried turning phone off, remove sim card, phone on, try to use cell connection (obvious failure), phone off, insert sim card and boot. Still no good. About to try above method using CWM and Digital Dream, as soon as it downloads.
Edit 2: Still no such luck. After digging through system logs, there's quite a few errors pertaining to the radio, IccCard, and RIL. One that particularly caught my eye was an error that there stated Ril_get_icc_status returned an error, and it should never return an error. Unfortunately, I didn't get a capture on the time I saw that, the radio reset which Su to reset which caused catlog to reset. Still have quite a few errors pertaining to SIM problems as well. I am way over my head after this point. I can interpret java, and linux.. but not so much understand when they're mixed together in Android.
http://www.pastebin.ca/2317800 This is logcat capture I got of the radio log. Unknown technology doesn't sound good to me....
http://db.tt/nbYfqEkb A full system log as soon as I could save after the force close. Couple things here and there.
I suppose if I can't get it fixed in a day or two.. off Verizon for a replacement. What's the purpose of a phone if I can't make phone calls on it?

Unless an error loops continually, its okay.
Have you tried to manually select a different network? I'm not quite sure how to do it on a sense rom, but I do know that when I was messing around within my CM10 build and changed to the wrong network type, I lost 4G data in sense. I reflashed CM10, selected a different network and then flashed back and it was working.
Have no fear...
THE MAN IS HERE!!!
OK guys honestly if it's up to me, we should all be scared ****less if we were relying on me. I bought a DNA with this problem to see if I could fix it and so far I've relocked, run the RUU twice (executable 1.15) unlocked and flashed recovery and done clean rom installs, kernels, switched to every network mode imaginable. I took my sim out of my DNA working perfectly so I know the sim is good in a different DNA.
I just flashed the 2.04 radios and I'm going to see what that does. I promise I'm going to give this issue my everything though because I gave a lot for this phone that's otherwise NIB condition and MINT. OK and the radios didn't help

Any luck figuring this out? I have the same issue and have tried radios, kernels, ROMs, RUU, and am still getting the same error message.

I was having "com.android.phone" issues. I relocked then ran the RUU. It didn't fix the error. I unlocked, tried to go Into recovery and there was no recovery. I flashed cwm recovery, flashed busy box/superuser, and rebooted. I flashed cubed kernel. The fix for the phone was to fix permissions with system write capabilities. I'm not sure why the RUU didn't put the phone all the way back to stock.

I had this problem with my first DNA, warrantied it out after trying all the same things, flashing different roms, RUUing. After replacement I came across a thread somewhere and found that someone had fixed the same problem by simply fixing permissions before doing anything else, sounds like once you flash something else you're screwed.
Anyone try that first?

[Q] Almost back to stock

After rooting my phone I flashed a few roms and not being happy with them, I decided to flash back to stock. I downloaded a stock rom (from the faq.
Everything seems to be working except I cannot connect to 4G. Where I life has 4g and befor I started flashing it I had no issues connecting to the network. I am able to use 3G, texting and am able to make calls.
Any Ideas?

What all did you do starting from actually rooting your phone?

1. I rooted the phone following these directions. However I did not make a back up (have rooted several phones before and never needed it.)
2.i flashed CM10 and it's boot.img to the phone. (cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-fireball-M2.zip). I got the rom from the CM site.
At this point 4g was still working. However I was unable to send pictures via SMS.
3. A friend of mine who says he knows about phones susgested that I call *228 and update roaming (option 2 when called).
I did and 4G stopped working. This also did not fix the picture problem.
4. I flashed viperLTE and its boot.img to my phone. Picture texting worked but still no 4g.
5. I flashed this stock rom and boot.ing to the phone.
Still no 4g.
Between each flash I wiped the cache, d. cache, system and factory reset.
I think that is everything. If I think of anything else I ill edit this post.
Thank you everyone,

Calling *228 from a 4G phone with a sim card can fry the sim card and it sounds like that could be what happened here.

look in settings and see what your preferred network is set at and in about phone to see if it says lte13, as far as cm10.1 -- when your mms didn't work all you had to do was was dalvic cache in recovery and mms would have worked. read the op in development for cm10 releases for the work arounds on some bugs it's all there
you may have borked your radio don't know, theres direction there to do that to(repair radio)

Is there a way to test this?
You may need to run the ruu package to get your radio working again. The stock and cm10 rils can sometimes get screwed up flashing between the 2. You can find the ruu on unlimited's site. Which can be found in the s off thread in development.

Your friend does not know about phones. Consider ignoring his future advice. Post 2 of the CyanogenMod thread is likely relevant to you. Did you bother reading the whole first post as is clearly noted?

Calling *228 will not "fry" the SIM card in this phone, but does not serve any purpose for phones with SIM cards.

Please don't unnecessarily recommend running the RUU. In fact if the radio did stop functioning from using CM, the RUU has nothing to do with the recovery process. It's the factory reset feature which restores the correct settings in the radio's NV memory.
I was able to get another sim (attached to a different account) and it gave me 4G. I called Verizon and they refreshed something and that seems to have fixed it. They are sending me a new sim card anyway.
Thanks for the help.

You're right, I misspoke. I was under the impression that a file from the ruu was needed to return to stock ril. Sorry about the confusion.
