Joining in - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Afternoon All,
I've recently decided to bin my DHD and opted for the upgrade/new contract option leaving me with the lovely new Atrix sitting on my desk (@ work so no WiFi) eagerly awaiting root/fun
Only thing I can note is im stuck
For some reason I cant get the bootloader to unlock, I've reinstalled my drivers, updated and amended things left right and centre and still its in Command Prompt <waiting for device> admittedly things were so much easier on the DHD so I did anticipate trouble using something new but not something as piddly as this, can anyone loan me a hand?
Atrix is running;
Sys = Version.4.1.31.MB860.Orange.en.GB (GAH!!! ORANGE UK BLOATWARE!!!)
FW = 2.2.2
bb = N_01.86.00R
WEBTOP = OSHWT_U1_6.34.0
Kernel = [email protected]#1
Build OLYEM_U4_1.31
Least once Ive cracked this I can get some work done on the damn thing

Had you read the post to unlock your bootloader you would know it works on AT&T version only.

That's ok then thought for a second I was doing something wrong :lol:
To the Google! *insert batman spinning logo here*

Can someone help me?! Please!
Last January I upgraded my cousins XDAII to WM2003 SE and it was succesful.
Unfortunately early February he dropped his XDA and the motherboard needs to be replaced by Brightpoint. After 2 weeks of waiting for the motherboard finally he was able to get the unit last Saturday Feb 19. Then of course his OS again is back to 1.66wwe.
So we try to upgrade it again and it went on smoothly till the end.
But when we finished doing the hard reset the following message appeared
"Network is locked, Please input unlock code"
then there is a box wherein u need to enter the code.
Since we dont know the code, we just tried to guess it and nothing happens, so the display was stuck to that part and the unit was useless.
We brought it back to Brightpoint and they reloaded the former OS and the unit was ok once again.
of course I tied to upgrade it again just now.
and again the message " Network is locked..." was there again.
What could be the problem???
I ask Brightpoint if they were already locking the XDAs to the Telcos, they said they do not.
I also tried the unlock process posted here at XDA-developers and the result says that the unit is already unlocked.
So what went wrong???

[Q] WTF have I done right???

Strange little story– A tale of (apparent) success snatched from the jaws of chronic stupidity and without any idea why it all worked.
I was given an unwanted X10 Mini Pro for my daughter – which was locked to 3 UK. So I unlocked it using a server unlock bought through eBay. That all worked perfectly but then I wanted to unlock the bootloader and install CM9.
I’d installed CM7 on another X10MP for a friend last year and so I had S1tool etc but of course it reported “RA0405” (locked bootloader) and “non recognised certificate” . (Awww, sh1t !)
Well then I read that flashtool can now unlock the bootloader so I thought I’d give it a try. Running Flashtool 8.10 I tried it but couldn’t get beyond the pop-up window where it asks you to connect the phone in flash mode. (Aww, Double sh1t!!)
Then clicking around the options on flashtool I came across “Root” and thought I’d give it a go in case the BL unlock needed root access. Well it threw up a few lines of text and reported that I was rooted. I re-ran the BL unlock again but no joy. (Awwww, double bugg3ry sh1t!!!).
Call me pig-headed but I then tried S1tool one last time. Again, it don’t work but it did throw up one line that told me specifically that while I still had the dreaded “Capital R” locked bootloader that it was “already rooted”.
On the basis that the phone had cost me nothing and that “root” normally indicates “take me any way you like , big boy” I then went back into flashtool and flashed the NaA ICS kernel. It worked!
I tried to restart into CWM – It worked too!! I wiped and flashed CM9 – It worked!!!!
I rebooted praying to all the saints that it wouldn’t bootloop and eventually a lockscreen appeared and it let me in to the start of the usual setup wizard.
Now, the BL unlocking guides all said that forcing a BL unlock with a non-SEMC/SETools or Optimus unlocked phone ccould either break your Sim-unlock or bork your radio functions completely so I still wasn’t optimistic but I shut the phone down slapped in my daughter’s Voda SIM, restarted and – “By the sacred balls of St Bartholemew!!” everything works just perfectly.
Now my question is simple. In true “idiot savant” mode have I got to the right end-point by a totally illogical and a “that should never have worked” series of blunders? Or could someone intelligent tell me why it worked and (if so) why it isn’t already written-up somewhere as another way to get past your BL and do a custom ROM install?
I’m not touching the damn thing again – in case my luck has now run out - that much I do know……
Could you post the output of S1Tool?
Unlocking the bootloader on an unrecognised simlock-certificate MAY work, but more often than not it destroys the radio-capability.
I'm fairly sure your bootloader is unlocked, can't imagine the nAa-kernel working otherwise, but without the output of S1Tool there's no way of telling

[Q] Help please, unlock S2 currently on Orange UK

I was given a new S2 on Orange (running ICS) which I didn't want or need, so I sold it. The person who bought it said she wanted an unlocked phone to use on another network and I told her she could get this phone unlocked, either for free, if she googled it (using a couple of apps that root then unlock) or from most phone shops. She bought it on that proviso.
I received a call from her today - she is complaining that she tried the "free" way - which didn't work, then tried a number of phone shops, every one of which said that the phone couldn't be unlocked.
She may have done the "free" way incorrectly therefore making it impossible for the phone to now be unlocked. I feel somewhat responsible but don't want to take back the phone now. I said I would call in to try to help her when I'm next in her area. Is there anything I can do to get the phone unlocked now?
Any help and advice would be very welcome and thank you in advance.
I doubt there is anything that can be done and the assistance you are asking may not be forthcoming from this forum.

Whoever tries to unlock the phone will need some basic knowledge in this area and needs to understand all the risks associated with this process. If you can tick off these two boxes just follow a few simple steps (just done that myself and can confirm it works fine):
1. Root your GS2 (plenty of threads on this forum)
2. Go to Google Play and search for "Galaxy S Unlock", the author is "Helroz".
3. Run the app from step 2. Go to "Unlock SGSII" tab on the top of the screen.
4. Tap on the first item:"Step 1 Backup files...."
5. Tap on the second item:"Step 2 Change lock-bytes", and wait until your phone restarts.
That's it.
No chance. If mobile repair shops can't unlock it, no way anything from Google Play (or anywhere else, Unlock SGSII included) will unlock it. Somebody is paying for an unlock code from a carrier.
u mite wanna chk dese links

This is the way to do it. It works because i did it this way 2 months ago on my orange uk I9100P last week on my draughts new I9100P. You might have to update your bussybox that's all
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
Many thanks to everyone for their inputs, I really appreciate it. I'll be trying today/tomorrow to sort it and will update with result.
Cheers everyone.
All done successfully - many thanks to all who replied to my plea for help.

OK first time in this forum, (so please be kind!!)
I'm not a total newbie to android - Google Nexus One - CM7.2 and SGS CM9.
Currently :
S2 GT-i9100P
Android 4.0.4
Baseband - I9100PBVLPB
Kernel - 3.0.15-I9100BULPC-CL332484
Build no. IMM76D.BVLPC
Was originally running 2.3.6 GB but updated via KIES to 4.0.4
Rooted with CF-Root
Yes, I have backed up my efs file
Yes. I have the dodgy emmc chip
NO!! Not bothered with NFC as probably gonna go CM10 when succesfully unlocked.
I've tried all the unlocking routes, free and paid (still waiting for several refunds!!). "Helroz" works, but if phone is restarted, have
to run app again to get unlock.
Does anyone have a permanent fix?
If it were for me, then no problem running Helroz every time, but it's for my daughter so want something permanent.
Going to go to a "phone shop" tomorrow to see what they can do....But much prefer to get it sorterd here with people that know and care!!
Thanks in advance
OK After MORE searching, finally found the thread for "GalaxySim Unlock 1.02" Duly downloaded and works a treat. I have thanked in that thread.

A couple of questions

Hello, I just recently got an Atrix off of ebay. I want to get into playing witih android phones. I've already read numerous threads, got the android sdk, rsd lite, etc.. I've been reading about flashing, and to be careful of what you flash based on what firmware versions are already on the phone.
The problem I have is the phone is subsidy locked, but it's locked in a way that not even AT&T sims work. It always asks for the pin, and the code AT&T gave me (they stated it was the subsidy unlock code) fails. So I looked at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356121
However, I have no idea what's on this phone. I can't access any settings menu in the phone, as it sticks to the "Emergency Calls Only" screen. i don't know what firmware is on the phone, what radio is on it, etc.. I don't want to try to flash a radio file and have it brick my phone. I've read quite a bit this past hour, but I'm at a crossroads here and don't know what to do to figure out what is exactly on this phone. If I knew what I had exactly, I'd be a lot more confident in flashing things.
I do know the bootloader is unlocked (the phone boots saying "Unlocked"). That's all I know :\
EDIT: Disregard. It took me another 6 hours but I finally got everything figured out (had to boot it with no sim to view things, then from there I got into it all). Rooted, CWM, flashed the bell radio and my sim works for now. Thanks for the valuable info that's listed here!
Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks!
hey,
I do have the atrix which is netwoek subsidy locked.
I even cant use at&t. I am outside us currently.
Could you tell me how did you flashed bell radio & where u got that.
Thanks

Motorola doesn't appear to have an unlock code for tracfone, is there a way around it

I get message on Motorola site that says no to getting unlock key.
MOTO E, bought from Walmart
US Retail Phone;
Android version 4.4.4;
Baseband version MSM8610BP_1803.346.31.00R, TRAC_CDMA_CUST;
Kernel version 3.4.42-g6bc7ff3;
System version 21.12.40.confor_tacfone.trac_cdma.en.US tracfone;
Build number DXC21.5-40.
I have spent many days trying to get some java apps to run on my phone and discovered this whole world of phone development. I am in the computer industry myself and am a Linux Administrator besides having a number of Microsoft and Cisco certifications. I have followed many steps so far in this process but seem to be stuck at the point of getting the bootloader unlocked. I thought that I caught wind of maybe flashing the memory with a different image to get around this. Is this most likely the path I will have to take now. I did try to get the Moto key on two different computers.
What is the next step if Motorola doesn't give unlock key. THANKS
rhcrco
Really...No Replies
This is sad
In motorola development site are the instructions for unlock bootloader
Same issue here. Is there no hope?
If you can't unlock your bootloader, then either you have to wait until someone finds a way around it or leave your phone the way it is.
