Proximity Sensor with HKTW 2.3.4 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks, I just wanted to know if anyone else if having issues with the proximity sensor when making a call with this HKTW 2.3.4. I made a few calls and it doesn't shut the screen off when I put the phone to my face, so I accidentally hung up on a couple people while talking to them.
Anyway, I guess I should flash back to Froyo, lol for stability leave the new ROM alone until it's finished, but I was really enthused about unlocking, flashing, setting up.

I haven't had that problem no i been on this since yesterday trying to find every bug but , I gotta say this is pretty stable.
Blur dont work but could careless my gps works which what u use the most
and i like how this rom supports usb tether and wifi tether WHICH BOTH work.

I think the prox sensor should work..it works for the pocket detection thing...

Don't know if your still having this problem but you can change sensitivity for proximity sensor with your build.prop. well not sensitivity but range.

VirusRom ?

I have had VirusRom installed for about a week now. Overall I love it.
Here is my problem though. When I am making a call the screen will lock. I have to push the power button to bring back up the screen in order to hang up the call.
Shouldn't the proximity sensor know when I pull it away from my face so I can hang up the call? It did before I went to this rom, was still using stock rom at that point.
Anyone know of a way to fix this problem? I have tried to post this question on the VirusRom forum, Since I think it is a bug with the rom, but am not allowed. It says you need 10 posts to be able to do that, Still I get that too even though I am over ten posts. Oh well on that though.
This could be a deal breaker for me and VirusRom. As it is quite frustrating to me. If anyone has any thoughts on how to get around this I would be thankful.
It's due to the kernel Virus installed in teh rom. It's one of Ziggy's first kernels and it has a bug that prevents the screen from turning on after/during a call as you describe.
Fix: Install a new kernel.
There are several on here to use, or you can search PPCGeeks / Ziggy to find his new kernels, which he has now fixed the proximity sensor issue.
Thanks for the answer. I downloaded kernal manager from the market. Any specific recommendations for a kernel? Adrynalyne's seem to be the most stable, but maybe I should stick with a stock kernal.
You can't go wrong with one of Adry's kernels. You should start with one those.

I had the same problem. I installed the new radio which was supposed to fix it and it did. But Im having trouble with the data connection, so I flashed back to the stock radio.
Ziggy's new kernal upgrade has fixed this issue. Id suggest downloading that. It works great and super crisp and fast over the version that came with the ROM and the proximity issue is fixed, been testing it for myself and all is good.
Check the VirusRom thread for info.
Ok, So I flashed one of Adrynalyne's kernals and now I don't have 3g or 4g. Just 1x. So do I flash another kernal, maybe the stock one, and the problem is solved? That will put it back the way it was right?
nope that did not work, I flashed Adrynalyne's stock rom and still just 1x. What have I done? What do I need to do to put it back? SInce I keep rom backups everytime I flash a ROM, I am going to flash back to the previous version that did have 3g and 4g working. I hope that works. The kernal is part of the ROM, correct?
Now this is getting frustrating. Flashed back to the previous working virus rom the one I had before the kernel update, and it still is only 1x. Wouldn't the kernel be part of the rom? Why did this not work? What can I do now?
Ok, since the rom is not the problem3g/4g problem, I reflashed the kernal to ziggy's updated kernal. And that did not solve the proximity sensor problem. I still have to unlock the screen to hangup the phone. Kind of strange I think, since that was supposed to be one of the fixes in the kernal.
Any thoughts on this?
Use Adrynalyne's kernel

I use the 4.3 and it runs perfectly fine and the prox sensor works, his are in Kernel Manager also so it will be an easy fix.

[Q] LED issues with Atrix port 0.4?

Anyone else having issues with LED notifications(there are none) with the new atrix port version 0.4?
The rom seems to be really fast and issue free otherwise.
I haven't had any led issues. So far it works fine. I did only install it yesterday though. I was actually on the verge of throwing this phone through verizons window till I got this rom installed.
The one minor bug is that the default keyboard seems to hang up once in a while. I have turned off the Vibrate on Keypress and I think that will help. I will post back if I have any led issues.
hmmm...weird...thanks alot for the reply...ill try reflashing...
oh and one more thing...did you flash overmind's speedy scripts? wondering if thats what caused it...
i had the same led issue when i was on the .4 port... i went back did a wipe (3 times) reinstalled after re-downloading and it went away. but after it went away i started having serious lag issues. .3 was alot better than .4 in my opinion

[Q] GPS causes data connection loss

Bell Atrix running OTA GB. The phone is unlocked and rooted now as I have been trying to fix this for a while now.
When the GPS is activated (the circle crosshair icon appears) my data connection drops and reconnects. This can take from 10-45 seconds and is highly annoying. It has only been happening since the update.
I have:
Flashed Gobstopper for Froyo - seems to work fine with no loss of data connection
Flashed Gobstopper for GB - GPS/Data issue is back
Flashed Faux123's kernal - GPS/Data issue is there
Flashed CM7 Beta - Same GPS/Data issue
Each flash is through recovery with a complete wipe (wipe Dalvik, cache, data. Erase boot, system, userdata, cache, webtop, preinstall.)
I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?
Well I guess my issue is unique. Lucky me.
After flashing Froyo and letting the OTA update happen everything was doing well...
until I used THIS method to root my phone. As soon as I did this and installed Titanium Backup the GPS causes data connection drop.
At least I seem to have found the reason, now to find a fix.
(I am continuing to document this in case someone else has this same issue in the future.)
EDIT: After flashing 2.2.2 and letting it OTA update to 2.3.4 once more I found that it did the same thing again. GPS turns on, data connection drops then reconnects. This is without redoing IHOP. Without rooting. So the rooting method is off the hook. I am now leaning towards a hardware issue. I guess it is time to check out eBay for a spare Atrix and send this off to Bell to see if they will fix/replace it with an unlocked bootloader.

Update: Bought a new phone. Bell Atrix. Came with 2.2. Put my sim in it. Logged in to Motoblur. Updated OTA to 2.3. Added my google account.
Still does it. I can't believe there are no others experiencing this. That is two phones. Same thing.
Only other thing I can think to do is get tasker and keep gps off until needed.
I still love my Atrix!
You are not alone!
I started experiencing this at some point after the Gingerbread 2.3.4 update as well.
It's disappointing to hear that it also happens with CM7.
Did you ever post about this in the Motorola Support Forums?
I haven't posted in the Motorola support forums. I searched there and found most of the responses lacking in service.
I am running CM7 stable and it seems to work better now. Better all around. Haven't gone back to Bell's GB for a couple of weeks.
Before I made the leap to CM7 I did find that if I left the GPS off and turned it on just before using it there was less of an issue.
Yeah Motorola has absolutely terrible support, but I only was wondering if you posted there since it might help them take notice.
I'd really love to put CM7 on mine too, but I can't get any answers to some of the questions I have first, and lots of the info I find online is contradictory.
I found though that if I turn off the "use wireless networks" option in the location settings that it seems to help a lot.
But then there are apps that nag at me about that setting being off.
Been running CM7 nightly 4. No issues at all. Best firmware for this phone. Hands down.
Follow the instructions and everything will work great.
Hey There.
Bell atrix freshly international boot unlocked, CWM with Neutrino 2.7, first time google mapping startup after bootup, Data connection drops right after GPS icon lights up. Data picks up again, and most times have to restart app, google mapping then works.
Waste around a minute every time. Can happen a while after first boot as well.
Seem to remember a problem like this on my Vibrant, had to change supl settings through phone codes.
But I've got nothing here. Still digging.
FYI - I'm also a canadian Bell Atrix owner. A commonality?
Also determined:
If on wifi when gps app/gps turns on, I see Atrix drop wifi, and go to H+ data.
If only on data when gps app/gps turns on, I see Atrix drop H+ data, and go... nowhere. H+ Data comes back after a dozen or so seconds
Also, happens when using NottachTrix as well.
Threw in my Rogers sim as well, same problems with dropping data when GPS runs
I remember having this problem on my Desire Z. It was driving me crazy back then, but I finally found the culprit.
It turns out the problem was that there were 2 data APNs (not including MMS). Whenever the GPS is enabled, the phone would disconnect from data because of this. I deleted the redundant APN (leaving only one APN that I wanted to use) and everything worked fine since.
Working rom
I found a rom that works, Max Blur 5, it is based on the original bell rom 2.3.6, I tested several other Roms and only based on bell works. The last version Max blur 6 not working it's base on ATT rom..
I am on the Bell network in Montréal Québec.

thinking about buying this phone for 120 bucks.. have some questions

has the gps signal been fixed with the latest ota update?
what is the latest touchwiz on this device?
is it smooth and how is the battery life?
I am on AOKP and get instant and accurate locks instantly indoors or out with or without a good signal.
I know this doesn't answer your question but I haven't had a problem with GPS since froyo.

shop around... 120 seems steep for a used i500
I just recently picked one up, i was a vibrant user untill work switched over to verizion.... i had just got the darn thing working perfectly too :-(
Mine has no luck with the GPS, it is nearly identical to how my vibrant worked, although the reception is just a little stronger... it is way weaker than a normal phone. It takes nearly 15 min for my phone to get a lock, however once it does, it has the lock... although it does loose quite a few satilights every so often and then grab lock right away again... Seeing how this is exactly how it worked by default on my vibrant, and it didnt get any better till i went to MIUI, who worked out thier own driver which got perfect locks with out dropping the sat lock.
Now for my question....
Im not the account holder on this phone,(its my work phone) and when i had a phone that used a sim card, i had no fear of loosing my regestration info, but im not sure what will happen when i flash this phone to a custom rom. Do you have to reregester it with verizion? or will it just reclaim my number? what kind of issues could i have... i need to make sure i wont have any issues since i dont have the password for activation...
and second, what is the most bug free rom avaliable? I'd like to try out MIUI again or even a stock rom as long as it has better support for GPS.
I've never had to re-activate after flashing anything FWIW. We have MIUI ICS that is quite functional, although I don't believe quite as much works on MIUI compared to the other ICS roms yet. I've had good luck with AOKP, gummy, and THS (rootzwiki) ICS builds. Much better than GB.
For me, the update to Gingerbread (2.3.5) has really improved the GPS performance. It's still not perfect, but it seems to lock up much faster than it used to.

Proximity Sensor not working properly

I had Slimbean w/ Android 4.1.2 up until a few days ago and and now the newly released Slimbean RC2 w/ Android 4.2.1 and across both roms, I've had problems with the proximity sensor not working. Since it's across both roms and my friend with the exact same phone and same rom doesn't have this issue, I don't really think it's a rom specific problem. When I am in a call, the screen never shuts off, and I just tried a sensor testing app today and it doesn't detect changes when I wave my hand in front of it. I haven't found anyone else with this problem either, and have no idea what to do from this point.
It's entirely possible that it's just broken...?
