Is wireless tether possible without root on the evo 3d?
Nope!!!!!!
Such a shame, for now anyway. You do have the option to usb tether though. This is built into the phone.

Posting this message via bluetooth wireless tether on a 3vo as we speak.
man, i just need something so i can tether my 3VO to my iPad 2. Looks like PDANet won't work for that. Waiting for root i guess.
So just to be clear, I can use my 3D to tether my Nook using Bluetooth? If so, awesome.

Yay! Sideloaded PDA and this works well for me too
Just connected my Nook to my 3vo and it works perfectly. Used pdanet tablet.
I am getting my 3VO tomorrow. If this works....You are a god in my eyes...This was the only thing making me not want the phone!

Hardly but apparently usb tether app will work.

It isn't possible to put the changed files in place, but i can't remember which dev (either leoisright or xhausx) said the edited tether is ready to be pushed to the system as soon as we do get root.
Another thing I've heard though is that usb tether works without having to pay (and without unlock/root). I heard that the pay service is just for the wireless tether. I haven't verified but let me know if that works for you.

Easytether works just fine for usb tether. Just used it for awhile.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I randomly found a USB tether app on the Market called "Klink" and it seems to cap your bandwidth to 1 MBit.. peaking at 2MBit at highest. If you need tethering now I'd suggest PDANet or EasyTether. I've not tested PDANet on the 3vo yet, but I'd bet it'd work fine. It's not worth my $15 though....
PDAnet works used it earlier

Thanks. I was wondering if this would work. ROOT would be nice, but this will satisfy until an exploit is available.
Really unless you are tethering to multiple devices or a device without usb, usb tether is the way to go.

Try to connect and see what it says, if they are going to charge you they have to tell you first. You will get a message similar to : You have not signed up for this service, to add it to your account call or go online today.
If you don't get the message than Sprint might be offering free for a limited time to get you hooked on it. If we don't get root, they may have a lot of new tether customers.

Totally my fault. Once the data connection was active i got the message saying my plan doesnt include it. Sorry.....back to holding my breath for root ;-(
it didn't work?? It said:
Your account does not include Mobile Hotspot/USB tethering service. Please contact Sprint to enroll in a plan for this service.

Some have gotten barnacle to work. Wireless tether app wont work. FYI: Those are 2 different apps. I could not get barnacle to work.
All carriers block Android's native tethering abilities for obvious reasons. Why let you use a ridiculous amount of data for free when they can charge you for it?
If you want to wireless tether, simply root using this method(i take no credit for this root method): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152101 and then install barnacle wifi tether from the market. It works 100% percent of the time

Install PDANet to get free usb tether.
I prefer Easytether, it automatically starts when you plug in the cable, as apposed to PDANet that requires pushing buttons.

Is there is a USB tether that works with the Evo 3D? I've been looking for one and really need one since only WiFi is working at my house and only one computer has a WiFi chip.
Thanks

Confused at your post.
So what exactly are you trying to do?
You have wifi at home and you wanna connect your EVO 3D through your pc to get Internet on your phone?
Or do you wanna share your phone's connection to your pc?

I tried 3 apps and none worked. If you are familiar with anything about sprint, it will give you an error when you try USB tethering unless you buy the $30 per month tethering.

I thought that was only for wireless tether, but I guess it makes sense they would lock both down. If you're rooted you could see if the ROMs which have unlocked WIFI tether/hotspot also have unlocked USB.
As for the apps, I know FOR A FACT that both "pdanet" and "easytether" work. IIRC both require a fee to get full access, so if it's a money issue you could ask about it in a ROM thread, maybe a dev could hack it for you.
I used pdanet app from the market on unrooted phone and it worked like a charm. Check it out.

I don't have a DNA yet to test it, but they should work. Under the FCC ruling on Verizon's use of the 700mHz band (the band they use for 4G), Verizon can't take any actions that in any way restrict what apps the customers use, and also can not restrict tethering in any way. If it is blocked, then Verizon will have some major explaining to do to the FCC. (they already had to pay a 1.25 million dollar fine over this, so the FCC is serious)
I sure hope so since none of the WiFi options seem to be working.

I was doing the same thing and read a little bit about someone getting it to go but causing problems for mms. i believe it was deodex* only so far the mod is for.
So far Wifi Tether Router is working 100%. Anyone wanting wifi tether ability without paying $10 for all the other tether apps should but this $2 app instead works perfect.
i have bought wifi pda net in the past but it has never really supported the wifi part its always been usb tether. the price for this app was perfect for me to try it out so thought id vouch for its use on 4.4 kitkat update.
