Tip for those experiencing low voice quality - HTC EVO 3D

Here's a suggestion that might help out those who are experiencing low quality with calls:
DISCLAIMER: Only change the settings described here. Changing any others in the service menu might cause you to have a phone-less phone.
First you'll need your MSL number. If you don't have it, use the procedure outlined here to obtain:
How to retrieve MSL number
1. Dial ##DATA# from the phone dialer.
2. Select 'Edit Mode'
3. Enter your MSL number
4. Select 'Advanced'
5. Change 'EVRC-B' from 'Disabled' to 'Enabled'
6. Change 'Home Orig' to 'EVRC-B' (You can change 'Roam Orig' to 'EVRC-B' also if you like)
7. Hit the menu key, then select 'Commit Modifications'
8. The phone will reboot
Hopefully, this will improve your call quality.
A little bit more about EVRC here: Enhanced Variable Rate Codec - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alternatively, you can change 'EVRC' to 'Voice 13K' instead if you don't notice any improvement and see if that helps.

[Solved] How do you add another number for a contact on the phone?

Sprint Hero
Firmware 1.5 (stock)
I have searched for it, and I see no answers....
Problem: I have a contact in "people" named "john smith". "john smith" has a number (or two, or three) entered in for his contact already, let say his "mobile" number. "john smith" calls me and I say "hey where are you calling from?" he tells me he is calling from home. So now I would like to add that number to his contact. I cannot find a way to do this.
I have tried going into "people" then finding the contact, and going into "edit", I've tried pushing and holding everywhere to hopefully find a menu, i've looked in the "menu" and the "add" button looks promising but no go.
The manual says:
1. Display the entry in People
2. Scroll down the screen and tap: ADD>PHONE
3. Tap the type of phone number you want to add (for example, HOME or WORK)
4. Enter the phone number and tap: SAVE
...This sounds great, but when you click on MENU and then click on ADD it asks you to "select a default action".
I know I could add this in my contact entry for "john smith" through gmail, but you would think that I could also do this through my phone, it woould make more sense.
Thanks in advance for any insight.

If you go in via the people widget, and you select a particular contact - one way is to select the three parallel bar button at the bottom of the widget - you can then select the person from the list after this (it defaults to the list). Selecting the contact should show the details for that person. From there, if you hit physical "menu" button, it will present options including "edit". Click on the "edit" option on screen, scroll to the bottom and click on "Add details".
thanks bluehawk, I had forgotten that I posted this.
and forgotten to thank you.

[Q] Calling someone on your contact list

Hey Folks,
I've got a question about calling someone on your contact list. I've only found two ways to make a call:
1) Go to your phone book and press down on the contact for a second. This brings up a menu where you can select the option to modify the number before making a call. From there, just hit the call button.
2) Go to your phone book and tap on the contact and that takes you to an Info page. From there, you can tap the number and it will call. Not to complain about it, but this requires a bit of finesse. There's a TON of space on the screen to have a call button.
Is there something I'm missing? Neither of these options is any good.
1. Press the contact pic n you get a mini menu option to call, txt, it email
2. Download a dialer app-personally, I'm using dialer one. On contact list it has a green button by the name to call instantly. Also has smart dial function; so u can spell contact name using number pad and find contact
3. Create shortcut on home screen for ur fav contacts
1. Long press on homescreen
2. Choose shortcuts
3. Direct Dial
4. Choose the contact you want
5. If you want to call them, just tap on that shortcut from your homescreen directly
I put a bunch of my direct dial contacts in a folder so i can call them with 2 taps essentially

[Q] How to..

I have added few numbers to black list. Now I want to remove them but I don't remember the number(s).I thought to remove all numbers from black list but How?
Your thread subject needs to be more descriptive...
Go here: Settings > Call > Call rejection > Black list
Then you have several ways to go about it:
A. Just uncheck the items you no longer want blocked.
B. Long-press on each item you want to delete to popup a menu to Edit or Delete.
C. Press Menu key then tap Delete. Then check all the numbers you want to delete and tap Ok.

Audio Hack / Microphone "Service Mode"

This is about the Microphone Volume Issue,
I have read Multiple Threads everywhere, and no real answer.
In comparison to my HTC Desire, the Microphone level is a little poor.
Quiet a few people have had issues hearing me properly,
Although when i make the following changes, everyone seems happy and can hear me much better:
i’ve investigated this issue, and it does seem to be a general one, found across all networks. The general fix is to access the service mode, and alter the default max volume for a headset call as follows:
Enter this number *#*#197328640#*#*
This will open the service mode menu.
Select option [5] AUDIO
Select option [1] (VOICE CALL)
Select option [2] HEADSET
Select option [1] Volume
Select option [1] SRC Speech RX Volume
Select option [5] 5_lvl : 87
Press the menu button (left side)
Choose Key Input
Enter a value between 0 and 100, with 100 the loudest setting.
Press ok
Then press the menu button and select back this will save (don't use the right side back key you normally use to navigate the phone or you will quit out of the settings).
Keep selecting the menu and back until you exit the service mode menu.

Click to collapse
The Problem is, this is only a Temp Solution, and after a Reboot where back to square one,
Has anyone come up with a more Permanent solution?
Mod / Hack
Or even a App?
Hope am not alone on this one? And sorry if this has been bought up, i have done a search and dont find a great deal of information
There's a fix. Search for disable noise suppression (cancellation)
search in the market for "AudioBoost SGS2" its works perfect for me...

Dialer Question

In the dialer, under the keypad selection, if you type in a person's name you are only give the option of their default number. Is there a way to select an alternate number??
yes under the specific contact you can change the default number.
otherwise when you type the name there is a little arrow to the right, select that and it gives you more options related to what you entered
