Can the LG Optimus One P500 be reverse tethered i.e. when the mobile is connected to a PC with the cable then the phone can access the internet via the PC.
My HTC Incredible S used to do this and I did search a bit before posting this but I couldn't find a way to make my LG Optimus One P500 do it. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that reply. I do have a wifi router already
Reverse tethering will allow me to use internet available on any machine even while I'm in transit. Think laptop+data card
Hence the query
Used to use this some time back when I was on Windows.
Also, cool sig

That works if your laptop has WiFi. Sometimes I have an old laptop with me which doesn't have WiFi or I'm visiting a friend who doesn't have WiFi. Reverse tethering hack would really help out.
Couldn't find a link for reverse tethering. Any suggestions?

Not sure. Haven't tried. Anyway, what error/thingy do you get?

I have both but I was wondering which one is better....
I heard that the APN can be seen by AT&T and they will charge me and make me buy a tethering plan.
On the other hand Barnacle is slow.
So can I get caught on either? which one?
Thanks.
Come on? Someone has to know about this....
hotspot
u answered ur own question. the fact that ATT can see u with custom apn i wouldnt even risk it. use wifi tether or barnacle..

neither. get an iphone
I work for at&t and we can't look at data in real time like that. At&t looks for extremely high data usage and then can go back and analyze from there. From my understanding it's all about TTL values and the difference of the phone and tethered device

Your easy method is not to have security on your router .
Unless you where looking to steal wifi .

Are you saying that you want to be able to connect to any wifi access point, without having to enter the password?
Is it your wifi, or someone else's?
Before flaming xeuronix completely: there are apps for jailbroken iPhones that can calculate securitykeys automatically for several badly-configured wireless routers (they have a default key that is generated by parsing the serialnumber of the router through a formula... And then use the serial as SSID...)

To the OP... no you cannot connect to a secure wifi...if you dont know the password...
regarding jailbroken iphones or any other device...
the SSID of the router is just the wireless ID which can be set to be broadcast or be hidden...that doesnt get you anywhere...
one has to know the password period
another point is that be it an iphone or a high spec gaming rig...the way it will talk to the router will be same...same protocols..same encryption algorithm...

Not going to happen (easily).
You could use a packet-sniffer to grab the keys but that's not going to happen on your phone (as far as I know, no one's ported the linux app over?)

Yep... And what I ment: some providers were dumb enough to let their fully equiped routers use a key that is based on the unique SSID of the router: faulty design, rendering wifinetworks that use default settings at risk for attacks...
Someone already made an app for jailbroken devices to automate the process of using this exploit.
Hence the question of Xeuronix is not so dumb after all: seems logical for such app to exist on android and not on iOS, instead of viceversa.

Finally someone talking sense in this forum. Thanks dude.
There are 2 programs that provide you with default passwords of specific routers like Thomson, Speedtouch and some others. The first one is called Penetrate and the other one is called Router Keygen. If you want to sniff data and eventually get a WEP key then you will nedd Backtrack which has been ported on Android but without the sniffing tools yet. And the phone's wifi adapter has to support sniffing
Free WiFi access? Hmmm......that would be nice! If there is such a program which works on SGS II, then I think there would be many takers for it
yes this would be great. then you could hack the planet. ...
Xperia Sola Anyway to connect through USB port not WiFi??
Of course there is, just use the cable provided with it
But jokes aside I was wondering the same thing sometime ago, mainly because I didn't have wifi installed, and from what I read it's quite complicated (or so I remember) and it's vastly easier just to buy a wifi access point then trying to set it up.

My school was far behind. In 1996 when I left, they just got the internet and was for "teachers only". We had commerce (which was typing) and that was about it. In 2000, I still didn't really understand what a C: drive was (Although I could use DOS oddly).

We are talking about REVERSE tether, which means that we want to use a computer internet connection to have internet on the phone.
It SHOULD be a standard feature as it is so easy to implement ! Some older version of android were allowing this easily and some phone maker were puting this as an option, now it's a hassle with LP !
