I started the process to install one of the more stock gingerbread roms(Revolution Rom RC1). From cm7 I flashed the GB bootloader via odin, it finished, i then restated the phone to bring it into download mode again to install the JVH PDA. But i could not get back into download mode and still cannot. I can still use cm7 but just cannot access download mode. I have tried all of the 3 button methods and using terminal su, then reboot download, both methods just reboot the phone, anyone know how i can get to the new rom ?
Two buttons....
volume up + power
You don't like op's do you.
This method works every time for me:
1. Turn Phone Off
2.) Plug USB cable into computer (but not the phone for now)
3.) press and hold the Vol +& - button
4.) Plug in the USB cable to your phone.

This is what I generally use too but with the Gingerbread bootloaders just use Volume up.

If you don't plug in the USB cable, yes. With the quoted method though, plugging in the USB cable acts as power on so the power button does not need to be touched.

You have to be holding the up/down vol keys when you plug it in.
Not all methods of accessing Download Mode have been added to the numerous stickied OP's about this issue, so here's a link to the procedure that works on mine:

that's the only thing that works but my comp wont recognize it and i installed the drivers and nothing also when i plug the phone into my comp the usb mounting icon doesn't pop up on the phone, so frustrated
The way I do it and it does work is two ways.
Of course make sure your drivers are installed
Turn off phone
Plug in USB cable to PC only
Hold Vol +/-
Plug in USB to phone
Wait a second and let go of Vol +/-
or
Download Terminal Emulator
Type
su
reboot download
I ran into this problem the other day as well. Instead of holding down the power button and both Volume + and -. Try just holding down the power button and Volume -. This worked for me. Every tutorial said to hold down both Volume + and -, but everytime I did it just took me to the "phone...!... computer" screen.
when i press an "up" button.. it functions as a down button ..
and a down button as an up button..
and power button is not working..
ive been trying to get into a download mode
but when I do a "press up and downbutton +plug usb + plug a battery" trick to get into the download mode
the recovery mode screen automatically appears...
so stressed now..
I would be greatly appreciated if anyone can help me out
All of this and more can be found in the Noob Guide in the general section op by S15274N
You are in recovery mode if it says "2E" or "3E" recovery you should be able to get into download mode and then you can flash back into stock.
To get to download mode plug in you usb into the computer first. then, hold the volume keys both down then plug into the phone (while it is showing the recovery mode, in other words it is still on) if it does not work, then pull out then try again a couple of times When you plug it in leave for 2-3 secs. There are other methods in the noob guide to try as well. If this does not work or you can't get it Then, just buy a Jig from the xda member connextion2005 (mobilevideotech.com I think). they are 8 bucks and all you do in just plug it in and it will bring up the download mode. From there you can do this:
Get the Odin program 1.7 or newer, get the Stock 2.1 Tar file, get the 512pit file
You can find these in the general forum in the thread called Noob guide
then:
Open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode. connect it to the computer it will recognize might say com8 or some other number
Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
You want to check the 're-partition' box.
Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
Use the super oneclick method it is easier to root then download Rom manager and now you can flash any rom you want
This is solvable good luck

Lets do this one
dont take the battery out
just press down vol and up vol without power and plug the usb
tell me if it worked
NO,, It didn't work..
the problem is that the recovery mode appears instead as soon as i plug the usb..
even if i tried the old method I've been using for..(this one used to always work but not anymore..)
1. Remove SD and SIM card
2. Remove battery
3. plug the phone into USB
4. hold down vol-up and vol-down
5. Pop the battery back in while holding vol buttons
This may work if not.............
Just get the jig it works and will solve this problem

hey nomadrider123,
i tried that still got the same green battery icon, no yellow download occur.
: ((
please see youtube video
thanks
I have heard that sometimes pulling your battery for 10 min or so has helped.
Or maybe rebooting your pc or a different usb port
Hm....have you tried only pressing the Vol. DOWN buttom? Try this:
1. Take out battery of phone
2. Press Vol. DOWN only
3. Insert the battery back to the phone. (Keep pressing VOL. DOWN)
4. Press POWER (Keep pressing VOL. DOWN)
5. Then, when you see the "Download Mode" icon, plug the USB (Note, you need to have the USB unplugged during the whole process for this to work, and only plug it in when you see the Download Mode icon. Also, when you plug it in, you need to have Odin opened ALREADY, and the drivers installed. Remember you don't only need the Samsung's Drivers, you also need the Nexus S drivers)
This seems the only way i can go into download mode. I made a thread a couple of days back, it have lots of info and suggestions on how to go into download mode, here it is:
[Q] Problem going into Download Mode
Hope it hepls.

Make sure your battery is not in your phone when you plug in the cable. If your getting the charging icon, I think your battery is in

This:
1. Take out everything from your phone. SIM, Ext SD Card, Battery
2. Press BOTH Vol Buttoms
3. Plug USB on PC and on the Phone
4. Put back ONLY the battery
5. You should be in download mode
Thats the usual way, but, idk some devices go into download mode in a different way than the usual way, for example, mines. This is how i go into download mode:
1. Phone is unplugged and turned off.
2. First i press VOL DOWN ONLY and then POWER Buttom
3. Voila, im in download mode. No need to plug the USB or taking out the battery
I discovered it by accident, i was going to go into recovery, turned off the phone and accidentaly pressed vol down instead of vol up, and i was pretty in shock when i saw the download icon pop on my screen. I was lucky i guess, i was already planning on buying/making a JIGG lol. Goodluck!
thank u .... it work by pressing the up vol and plug in the usb...
I have a Galaxy S2 I777 (ATT) that I have had on Cyanogen Mod ROM (which I love) for the last 6 weeks or so. Never had a problem until tonight. I was browsing a site and all of a sudden the phone froze. Nothing would work to unfreeze it. Tried everything I know and eventually took the battery out. Just in case, I replaced it with a fully charged battery.
When I tried to turn it on---nothing. I tried to boot into recovery---nothing.
Anybody have any thoughts???
Thanx in advance Rich:crying:
Have you tried getting into download mode? Once you can't get to recovery, Download mode is the next option, where you'll need to odin back to stock (I suggest UCMD8). There are several methods to get into download mode, I'll comb through a few of creepy's more recent posts to find them...

There are several ways to put the phone into download mode. You should try all of them that you can before you give up.
Recovery mode:
With the phone off (and not connected to the computer), and battery installed, hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ pwr continuously until the initial boot screen appears the second time.
Download mode:
1. With the phone off and connected to the computer via USB cable, and battery installed, hold all three buttons, vol- vol+ pwr.
2. With the phone off and battery installed, hold vol- and vol+ (but not pwr) while plugging in the USB cable.
3. With the phone off and battery installed, hold vol- (but not vol+ or pwr) while plugging in the USB cable.
4. Attempt each of the above three options with the battery removed from the phone. The computer will supply the power to the phone.
5. Use Android Debug Bridge (adb) which will only work if USB debugging has been already turned on in Developer Options, since you can't boot into the system to turn it on. With the battery installed and the phone connected to the pc via USB cable, use the command "adb reboot download".
6. Use a USB jig. With the battery installed insert the USB jig into the USB connector of the phone. Some have reported that this method works when no other method would work.
Thanx
I tried all of your suggestions except the USB jig. Don't have one; don't even know what one is. Unfortunately, none of them worked. But, I really appreciate your taking the time to respond
