SD card speeds - HTC EVO 3D

How is everyone's SD card speed? Since this is a class 4 card, and the 16gb samsung card that came with my Epic is a class 2, I figured the card in this phone would be faster...
However using SD Tools, I'm getting ~8MB/s read, ~17MB/s write with the Samsung card... but only ~5MB/s read, ~12MB/s write with the included SanDisk card. I did three runs with each card.
Is this app junk? Or should I be swapping out the SD cards before I sell this Epic?
(yes, I'm running the tests for both cards in the EVO)

i have an old sandisk 8gb class 4 from years ago that was getting 10-12MB/s write and 20+ read. yet the class 4 sandisk that came with the evo 3d was getting the same you posted(but its still in the class 4 range). but i got a pny 32gb class 10 card thats getting about 8 write and 22+ read. gave the fast class 4 i have to my wife for her evo(my old phone)
id believe sd tools over any class rating.

My average of three test was: 9 write, 18 read on a 32 gb class 6

I haven't tested the speeds on my cards, but I replaced my EVO 3D's with a 16GB CLASS 10!!! the day I bought it. A local MicroCenter just happened to got them in the same day I bought my EVO 3D, and I got it for $25, the same price as their Class 2 cards. I almost felt like I was stealing, but they said it was just the deal they were getting on the cards.
After transferring a few 2GB movies over, I can say that it DEFINITELY transfers data noticeably faster from my laptop to the card though.

32GB Sandisk class 4: 5 MB/s write, 11.6 MB/s read.
Mike

8.1/20.7 transcend 16gb class 6

I've noticed that changing the cluster size also affects the speed.
I've gotten the best speeds with 32K clusters.
Class 2 16GB SANDISK in 3VO
Read 7.0
Write 13.5
Speeds were not this fast on the EVO.

write: 5.0 mb/s
Read: 19.4 mb/s

Class 6 SDHC 16GB

That is with my 16gb Wintec class 10 card. I ordered it from newegg about 5 months ago for $30 for my EVO. I reformatted it and moved all my data back to it about a week ago because it corrupted. Luckily I had a backup from about 2 weeks prior. I like the performance of the card but the corruption scares me alittle. Hopefully its just a one time thing.

Unscientifically, I believe my read/write speads have increased after doing a data reset on my phone and formatting my sd card:
windows 7 reported 3-4MB/s write before, and now I'm getting 5-7MB/s writes. Read speeds have increased too, but I don't have a good range to give. This is over various file sizes, but it's definitely faster than before formatting my card, erasing data, and resetting phone.
I'm using a 16gb class 4 Polaroid card.

Stay away from Wintec cards!!!!!!!!
I have a 16gb Wintec class 10 that will corrupt every time you reboot the phone.
Currently using a PNY 16gb class 4 that pulls 12.7M write 24.1M read .
Guess I got lucky on that card (btw, I test using HD tune pro).

The class is the minimum speed the card can achieve. So yes, a lower class card could be faster.

should I go for class 6 or class 2 of 16G microSDHC

I'm curious what's the max data transfer speed of the microSDHC interface on touch hd.
class 2 provides max 2MB/s
class 6 provides max 6MB/s
however there has a big gap on the price difference. class 2 is much cheaper.
If touch HD cannot provide such 6MB transfer speed on the interface, it is unless to buy a class 6 16GB microSDHC, right ?
guys...any ideas?
I got Sandisk 16gb mobile ultra class 4, gives me 5.5MB transfer with USB mode between Windows 7 and HD.
I got a 16Gb Class 6 on my HD and the rate between myu HD and Windows 7 is near 7.45Mb
Price?
65€
From those response, it is no cons to go for a high speed microSDHC card if price is not a concern

Indeed. Cheapest I saw was around $55 if i remember correctly. If i find one for 10 bucks less (class 6), i'll go for it.
Any links to recommended Class 6 cards (16 GB minimum)? Links to best price?
Are any 32 GB Class 6 cards available?
best price I found is about 80 US dollars for a Transcend, also comes with a lifetime warranty, there are cheaper ones however I ussed Transcend in the past and they're quite reliable.
Im still not sure if a class 6 product is neccassary since I am curious whether the HD can read/write at those speeds anyway? I havent seen any transfer of data faster than 2400KB between device and storage card in OS mode, USB mode is a different story.
Can you guys provide links for those prices???

hmmmm... you might be right can anyone confirm it? I mean apart from the added speed transfer from HD to PC is there any point of a class 4 over a class 6 card?
i have a 16gb sandisk class 2...
using it like external disk it gave me 7mb rate..

Are you sure? Is that in a card reader or HD?
I don't think there is really any noticeable difference between Class 2 and Class 6 when used with Blackstone. I used both and speeds are exactly the same. Right now I am using Sandisk 16 GB Class 2 card. With USB adapter the card performs 18 MB/s read and 13 MB/s write. The same card in Blackstone in Disk Drive mode performs 15 MB/s read and 3,5 MB/s write.
Phone no difference but using adaptor on PC there is a difference... Phone speed has got bottleneck.

What is the best micro Sd for X10?

I want to know what class of micro Sd I will buy for my X10mini.
There are may advantages using a class 6 or class 10 micro sd for video?
Can anyone tell me what is the transfer rate supported by this smartphone?
I bought a cheap class 2 16gb card, and haven't had any problems with it - music and video plays fine.
Remember the class rating of a card is the minimum data rate, rather than the maximum - mine manages 6mb/s transfer rates.
X10 mini from Rogers
a 16gb micro sd card came with my X10, i'll receive my x10 mini from Rogers in few days, i wonder there's any micro sd card come with it?
Unless you're doing HD video, a class 2 card is fine. I bought an 8gb class 4 card for around $29 from a computer store. Don't go to somewhere like officeworks as you'll pay $35 for a class 2 card.

Ok, so if I find a class 4 at a good price well, otherwise a class 2 works well.
But what is the max. speed of data transfer (to SD supported) by the X10?
i got a 16gb on ebay class 3 or 4 for about £15 ( Around double in dollers) works just FINE
Finally I have the solution to the problem
Many thanks to everyone for the answers, and I can also give a contribution (to me and others ) because today a technical staff of Sonyericsson wrote me that the X10 supports a micro sd maximum class 4, every other class does not produce benefits in terms of speed, are supported but will not be used at their maximum speed.

Be careful with e-bay as chinese sellers sell hacked 8 and 16GB cards, which in reality are 1 gb card which report themselves as 8 or 16 (and are marked 8 or 16).
I have bought a Kingmax 8GB class10 on ebay and it's very very good !
My x10 mini pro came with a 2gb card, doesnt say wich class I assume its class 1 or 2 as most stock ones are, from what Ive heard android phones dont take advantage of anything above class 4 from the OS at least, but you can speed up music and file transfer by getting a class 10 and using ur pc card reader to fill it up faster =) wont give you any better performance for phone tho..
I have a extra Sandisk MicroSDHC (8 GB) card. Works fine.
Sold my standard 2gb one.
i have kingston sd class 4gb and i buy it for 9 EUR from store and is working normal
I've bought Kingston 4GB MicroSD and it wasn't working. Maybe it should be useful to make a thread of compatible SD's.

Be interesting to learn the maximum throughput. Meaning sequential may be capped at 4 MB/s, wonder how fast it performs doing random R/W.
Mike
Anyone tried PATRIOT 16GB Micro SDHC 2v1 Class 4?
i heared that there are some problems with sd cards class 4 on mini pro, but class 4 and 6 works perfect
Im using Kingmax 8GB class 4 card. working just fine..
I just bought a 16GB PNY Class 10 card from here: PNY 16GB
Cheap at £17.99 and seems to work really well. SD Tools says it is writing at 9.3MB/s. My previous Transend 8GB Class 6 wrote at 6.5MB/s. Seems quicker when using camera: ready to take next shot sooner
My new card!
I just got a Transcend 16GB Class 2 for around $25! Class 2 doesnt make that a difference. I have set 3072 kb as the card buffer in MIniCM6
I had problems with a Kingston 16gb sd. Replaced it with a Sandisk 16gb, works fine now.

[Q] New MicroSd HC Card

Hello,
I want a new MicroSd HC Card for my Hero.
After doing some research on the internet, I am confused...
Some people say, that it is senseless to buy an expensive class 6 or 8 card for the phone, because it can not handle the extra speed a card with a higher class has.
Currently I own a Toshiba Class 6 8gb Card,
but this one has not enough space.
I thought about buying 16 or 32gb.
Do you have any recommends for me?
I have a class 4 16GB SDHC card for my Hero (it's a sandisk one for a reputable retailer, NOT eBay). when I perform speed tests on it, it says it is a class 2, which is the exact same class as the 8GB SD card it replaced.
Some class 4's can perform better than a class 6, it seems to be luck of the draw. Apparently the CLASS refers to the read speed I believe, Class 2 minimum 2MB/s. I've probably got that totally a*se about face...
I am told the hero can handle 32gb cards, only reason I bought a 16GB was because the Hero was replacing a 16GB iPhone 3GS. I've had no problems whatsoever with it. Another user (on the forum) has loads of issues with lag from his 16GB SDHC card. No reason whatsoever. Just seems to be hit and miss.
I WOULDN'T BUY A SD CARD FROM eBAY THOUGH!!!
I got a 16gb sdhc class 6 from adata - have been using it nearly from day one, can't say I noticed a change in performance from the 2gb card that came with the Hero.

[Q] Question about Wintec Class 10 MicroSD card

Hi. I read that a few of you have bought wintec micro sd cards from newegg.com. I was wondering if you had any problems with this card. The reviews on newegg seem mixed. I particularly want to buy the 16 gb class 10 microsdhc. Does this card work in the transformer? Any help would be great. I want to spend my money right the first time and not waste any on unreliable cards. Thanks

Not sure about the Transformer (yet... still waiting for mine. Hopefully tomorrow), but I bought one for my Motorola Atrix. After formatting it in the Atrix, it worked for a little while, then my Atrix said the card was unrecognizable. I had similar issues when I put it in my Nexus One as well. Using it in the SD adapter with my PC or camera doesn't seem to have the same problems.
I find that a class 4 card is good enough for most things. Heck, I use a class 2 card on my Archos 5 Internet Tablet to hold movies, and I have never seen it stutter. I just bought a class 4 card in anticipation of my Transformer.
If you want a faster card, get one from a reliable manufacturer. But I really don't think you'll need it.
I've been using the 32GB Wintec class 10 in my EVO for months with zero issues. It's fast too...makes a very noticeable difference when viewing pictures in the gallery. I was a little nervous after hearing other people's reviews, but it's been great for me. I make sure to backup fairly regularly though, just in case.
My 1st wintec 16gb class 10 would constantly get corupted in my epic and wouldn't be recognized in my laptop at that point. I formatted it numerous asy and the results were always the same. Rma'd it and just got the replacement today. Will load some things on and give it a shot with files I won't care about losing if it goes down.

I couldn't wait for a decent 16GB Class 10 microSDHC card to get back in stock, so I ordered two of these Wintec cards from Newegg yesterday. I know there's a chance they will crap out soon, but I thought I'd take the chance since I'm impatient. I wish the A-Data ones would come in stock sooner.
Sad part about the Adata ones is they're usually a class or two slower than their rating. So their class 10 is probably about a class 6 where Sandisk ones usually outperform their class. I have a class 2 32gb Sandisk in my Samsung Epic and have had no complaints about speed or reliability.
Im using one right now in a stock unrooted TF. But when I tried to root it , it always corrupts that card!
I bought two Wintec 16GB Class 10 MicroSDHC cards and they BOTH didn't work. I couldn't format them and I had problems recognizing them on the TF and computer. I'd stay away from them.
Wintec class 10 16gb microsd works fine with my TF.
Faster than my other class 4.

Buying a MicroSDHC card
Class has to do with the speed of data transfer to your “microsdhc card”.
You may want to be careful of that particular memory card (Wintec Class 10 MicroSDHC) on Newegg, Located at ...... Alot of very bad reviews for this item. It has a very high failure rate. 1/3 of the cards fail, become nonfunctional after a very short time, loose data, lock up, etc.
For a couple dollars more you may want to get SanDisk or Kingston memory. I have been using their memory products for many years. Both have an excellent rating and warranty. I also find it hard to believe that you can get a real, reliable and functional Class 10 memory at that price. Usually a Class 10 memory retail about $175.00 $190.00 but can be bought for $ 75.00 to $90.00 dollars.
People who usually use Class 10 are photographers, for speed of image transfer to memory and less time waiting between shots, and heavy duty graphic users that have a lot of transfers to do with large files.
For example for a real Class 10 memory:
NewEgg:..... $89.00
Amazon:..... Kingston-MicroSD-Adapter-SDC10-16GB $82.00
Example for Class 2 memory:
SanDisk 16 GB microSDHC Flash Memory Card $23.85
Example for Class 4 memory:
Kingston 16 GB Class 4 MicroSD Flash Card with SD Adapter $32.84
Class 2 or 4 will do just fine for your Asus Transformer.
Just go with Sandisk. Even Class 2/4 Sandisk cards will be fast enough. Cheaper brands just stick a class 6/10 on their cards and buyers will eat them up. But real-world performances will show you that they're definitely not in the same class as Sandisk cards.

[Q] Micro SD Card Size or Speed?

Hey what do you guys think? I can get a either a 16GB Class 10, or a 32GB class 4 for the same price. Does a class 10 really make much difference on a phone? If this was for my DSLR Camera it'd be different. So just curious what everyone's thoughts are. Thanks In Advance!
P.S. The Price is $60. However I work at Best Buy and know i get a discount im just not sure what it is yet...
I was wondering the same thing?
I would think the class 4 32gb would be fine with the Evo 3D, but i could be wrong
What brands? Not all brands are the same.
I just purchased a Sandisk 32GB class 4. I mainly use my storage for music/pics.
I use a Sandisk 32gb class 2 I believe, it may be a class 4. Used it in my Evo4G and now my 3D. I run most of my apps and games off of it, never had an issue. Never any lag, just as fast as a class 6 I used by some off brand. Sandisk is known for having speeds faster then what they are rated, alot of no-name brands are just the opposite though.

I just went through this same thing.... The card that came with the phone was class 4. I downloaded SD Tools from the market and did a speed test. My goal was to ensure that whatever card I got had at least the same read/write speeds as the stock card.
Out of 3 tests on the stock class 4 card the highest results were 7.0MB/s write and 16.9MB/s read.
I went to Frys and bought a 16GB class 4 card (I think it is WINTEC, but will double check) for $19.99. Figured I could return it if the speeds weren't up to par.
Out of 3 tests with this class 4 card, all came back with 11.0MB/s write and 19.2MB/s read.
I decided to go with 16GB first to see if I would really fill it up. Sure, I would love 32GB of storage but when do I really need ALL my music on my phone at one time and how many movies do I really need on hand? I figure I will still use my PC as the ultimate storage device and then sync down about 4GB of music and maybe 3-4 movies at a time... still leaving room for some camera pics. If I find I am running out of space I will then upgrade to a 32GB card.
Hope this helps!
I ordered the Lexar 32GB class 10 microSDHC from tigerdirect today - $55 (approx $6 for shipping *and* tax) today. It retails around $90 at amazon
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=186367&CatId=7071
Only problem is that it is expected to ship in late August... hope they don't cancel it by then
I'm using sandisk 16g class 2 card that come with my Droid X. I do get lag sometimes playing 1080p vids, although rare.. If I don't skip around a lot then no problems at all. I don't consider it a nuisance enough to throw away any class 2 cards but enough to make class 4 my new min requirement.
