Samsung doesn't have a bootanimation.zip, instead all I see is bootsamsung.qmg, so how do you go about changing the bootanimation?

Search or read the bootanimation posts in themes section re bootanimation zips .
jje
I will have to get root explorer, as the two files that you up loaded in another post didn't work for me after writing over the system media qmd files with File Expert...or try a different kernel or rom as all the bootanimation zips haven't been flashing on CFkernelKF2 for me either.
Edit:
Used a free market app: Boot Animation Changer LITE, and it worked.

does some one succeded to change boot animation ?
Yes, i found a nice guide somewhere in a thread in this forums. Sry, but can't remember where, maybe you can find it by using the search ;-) .
the problem is that zip file dont work for sga
The tutorial i folled, worked by moving and copying some files in the filesystem (root needed)...
I'll search it tomorrow if you/no one else finds a link to the guide.

hello guys i want to share how to change your bootanimation zip to custom animation,
im currently still using froyo, so if you use custom rom the steps might be different,
but should work for GBKPE too,
i download the bootanimation files from this thread
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
here's the steps :
things u need :
-ROOTED ACE
-ROOT Explorer installed or similiar app
-rename the animation you download to "bootanimation.zip"
-paste the bootanimation.zip you downloaded into your sdcard, anywhere is fine
-use root explorer open the system/bin
-look for the "samsungloop" file, move it to your sdcard first, just in case, you can either move it or copy it again to another place, (in my case, i copy it into system/ and another to my sdcard)
-go to system/bin ,look for "bootanimation", and rename it to "samsungloop", if you use ROOT explorer, don't forget to change the previlege first, change R/W permission first to R/O,,,(the bootanimation is not the file where you rename your animation you downloaded to be bootanimation.zip)
-put the "bootanimation.zip" (the file you downloaded and rename it's names) to
system/media
-in system/media, there are 2 files if i'm not mistaken, bot of the files are with the extension .qmq, just rename it with root explorer to .qm extension file
-reboot your galaxy ACE
-done
if you follow my steps well, you should see your animation after reboot, if it's just a blank screen, then you do some mistakes in the steps,
feel free to ask if you still don't understand , sory for my bad english though

It it possible to replace the boot animation / video with just a Samsung logo or something equally discreet? I just find it annoying. Have already turned off the sound by replacing that file with a silent one.
Thanks!
Edit: the title was naturally supposed to say "animation". Sorry about that.
Yes use the search button and or look in Themes section .

Yes, you will need the CF-Root kernel and put a Bootanimation.zip where it is asked to put in the CF-root thread in the dev section

Great thanks, renamed to .bak and the boot animation is gone. Also did the same to the startup animation.

Can't see any file called bootanimation.zip, just the twp qmg files as per above. Ideally I'd like to have static pictue (a glowing outline of an Android, to be very specific, but I'll see what I can find) as the screen is just black now that I've renamed the two files.
Can't see any file called bootanimation.zip
That would be for custom animation .
I have Android astronaut boot with opening bars of Like a Rolling Stone as boot .

Aha, easy enough. I've settled for a static glowing Android from this thread, specifically the AndroidParticles2 animation (which is very nice in its own right) where I just deleted all but one of the images. Now it just lookes like this, stylish and minimalist which is just how I like it.
Thanks for the help!
Hi All,
I had flashed the bootanimation from the Nexus Prime on my X10i and it was working fine. But now I am not able to change the bootanimation by any means and am stuck with the Nexus boot animation.
I have tried flashing the stock bootanimation.zip through xrecovery, as well as tried replacing the file manually, but once i reboot, the phone reverts to the old boot animation.
How can i chnage by boot animation now???

Wrong section, Post your questions in Q & A section
Anyways go to /data/local & delete bootanimation.zip if there's any, then go to /system/media & delete bootanimation.zip if there's any, Then flash the new boot animation that you want
Did I mention wrong section?
Use root explorer or any file manager which can access root files, manually delete the bootanimation from systems/media and replace it with your file.

Ok, so there this copy of the old bootanimation.zip in /data/local - deleting that copy did the trick for me. Thanks!
I've tried following instructions for replacing the boot animation that say to go to system\media and replace bootanimation.zip. This doesn't seem to do anything. First, I don't have a bootanimation.zip file in that directory, just qmg files. And when I put bootanimation.zip in that file it has no effect.
Is there something I'm missing? I'm rooted, running the stock rom.

I believe you need a kernel which supports custom bootanimations. Try ChainFire's kernels on XDA.

Questions = Q&A
Bootanimation stock is QMG
To add a custom boot animation you require a kernel that supports it .
You would be far better off reading the FAQS and Guides before attempting to do stuff that may brick your phone and leave you with no warranty .
jje
meh, not worth the trouble to replace the kernel. It's strange that the four tutorials I looked at that detail how to install a custom boot animation never even mention needing anything other than root access. No mention of kernels or custom roms, etc.
Did anybody ever figure out the qmg format? I saw a couple threads on it, but they're from 2010 and never seem to get beyond decoding the file header.
No free editor found for QMG files .Though at least one modified QMG posted on XDA .

This is a guide that I do not remember being posted anywhere, but if it has been, mods feel free to remove
This is for Stock based touchwiz roms ONLY where the dev hasn't added a custom bootanimation, and instead the stock ATT globe animation (which is a .qmg file instead of a zip ) is present. CM, PA, or AOKP roms do not need this, as you can just replace the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media for them.
First off special credit goes to Androidmechanic for pointing me in the direction of the thread to do so located HERE
The thread has some pretty clear instructions, but apparently some people still had problems with getting it to work, so here's what I did:
1.) Download Busybox from the playstore, open up the app and follow the instructions to install it. Even if you already have busybox from a previous time, a clean install of a fresh one will make this process work.
2.) Download the Bootanimation4u.zip AND Bootanimationzip4u.Samsungani.Only.zip from the thread linked above.
3.) Reboot into recovery and flash the Bootanimation4u.Samsungani.Only.zip FIRST, then flash Bootanimation4u.zip (I'm not sure if it is needed to flash both, but this is what I did to get it working.
4.) Reboot. Then paste any existing Bootanimation.zip files that you may have into /system/media through use of a root browser (ES File explorer, Root Browser, etc)
OR
if you don't have any bootanimation.zip files handy
you can download Boot Animation from the playstore and download and install from a PLETHORA of bootanimations. If you choose to do this follow these instructions, courtesy of XDA user ReelFiles
- install Boot Animations Root from the Play Store.
- Go into the app's preferences and change install location to /system/media/ and leave the default filename (bootanimation.zip) and go back to the main screen.
-. Select any bootanimation from the Server tab and hit Install. (Tablet ones at the bottom of the list look best.)
- Select the installed bootanimation again and hit Resize. Set it to 800x1280 30FPS.
-Tap the options key and select "Preview current" Make sure you like it and reboot.
You don't have to delete the .qmg files that Samsung uses for their bootanimation for this to work, but if for some reason this doesn't work for you, try deleting them and see what happens
Once done your bootanimation should be set! Happy Flashing!

Shutdown animation is located system/media/video/shutdown. There is a shutdown.qmg file. I replaced mine with the stock intl' Samsung shutdown qmg file. Looks much better.
I have a request to make.I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 running Lollipop 5.0.1 and i tried and flashed the file but nothing happened, but the reason is probably becouse i tried this method first ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ection-how-t1897969/post31833122#post31833122 ) and made a mess of things. Now i see only the Samsung GS4 inscription and the blank screen until the device boots up.I want to switch back to the default boot animation but i can't seem to get it back no matter what i try and i no longer have my system/bin folder bckp.If you can point me to where i can download one or you have it and can shre it with me i'll be immensely grateful.
I've a Samsung S3 I9300 with Android 4.4.4: this method works with my device?
And is there a collection of bootanimation here on XDA?
Thanks
anyone know how to go back to using qmg files?
