Handscent lag? - HTC EVO 3D

Has anyone downloaded Handcent to their phone? Then added all their previous texts back?
If so , does it lag like it did on the OG EVO? This one issue has me on the fence about getting this phone.
Sent from my Evo via Tapatalk

I loaded ~900 texts onto the 3vo and have handcent. I haven't noticed the lag I had on the og evo.

900 might be too low....I have around 21,000 (yea I hate deleting them )
Sent from my Evo via Tapatalk

im having the same problem...i believe it is the app because i have 24000 about and the stock app, chomp, and go were loading everything real speedy...if i can recall, it was working fine until i got the updates :/

20 some thousand lol why do you keep so many?
Sent from a dual core beast 3VO. Do this on your iFail 4

I am gonna say it has something to do with the massive amount of texts you have saved ... lol. Do you really need to keep that many?

Yes.....I was hoping the dual core goodness of the phone would make the program run buttery smooth no matter the text amount.

Its the app.

Each text you have loaded up takes a lil hit in memory/cache
And with that many you'd be really asking a lot of a program to want it to manage them without lag...
With that being said, I'm at about 1,000 and no issues in stock messenger
Besides the unread bug
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter

you can try go sms, its pose to be better so they say
Bussin Caps from my 3D shooter

Go SMS is 1000 times better than Handcent, so many customizable options for Go SMS, and it looks so clean and nice. Very fast and smooth, rarely ever had a crash running it on my EVO 4G.
But...since the 3VO has the revised stock message app, I am sticking with it, looks much nicer now, and the stock HTC app just works better, no hiccups or issues. And I was a BIG fan of Go SMS, but just like the new stock message app better now.

How fast is the phone

How fast is the phone did the ota slow it down and does any phone have any lag or differnt from one phone like the sensation where one phone lags more then the other
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Speed is relative. This phone is wicked.
BANG! from my shooter...
The EVO 3D has more RAM than the Sensation so it will be faster. I have not noticed any lag what so ever. I performed both OTA updates.
1.2ghz dual core... it will be faster for just about everything than any other phone on the market (well, it will be equivalent to the other dc phones out there...). I messed around with it for about a half hour at the sprint store just now and it seemed snappier than my oc tmo g2 running at 1.5ghz, which is saying something.
Sounds great cant wait till tommerow I know the ram thing but they are saying some phone are running better then others and they have 2 differnt screens
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Faster than any phone I've used so far, or any Android-based tablet.
Slower than my gaming rig.
It's faster than my overclocked Asus Transformer. Yes that's running honeycomb and higher res.
I can open the full espn.com with all flash turned on and it scrolls smoothly and as one review yesterday pointed out you never see the checkerboards it's that fast. When I first activated it and put my google account on I was showing my bro how fast it was (we both have Evos) and we both realized this was much faster, then after that I go to market and realized the whole time I was showing him that the phone was downloading and installing apps, needless to say it was even quicker at opening apps up once that was done.
Real fast. As others have said, there is just no lag, ever. Can't wait to see it overclocked!

Why would you need to over clock the fastest phone out there right now that has no lag what so ever.
If there is already zero lag, what would less lag then that be called?

+1. Why on earth would anyone feel like they need to OC something that already doesn't have any lag? What would they gain except faster battery drain and overheat??
Fast and smooth, seems like no task slows it down. Apps open faster and run much better. Could not be more pleased with the speed.

Here is a video of the kind of lag people are talking about

This video isn't mine, but this video shows my exact issues. This happens when web browsing too, it isn't smooth as butter like some say, I experience slight scroll lag in my web browsers. anyway, here is a link to show the market lag.
My question to you all: if you do this on your phone, do you lag like the EVO 3d or are you butter smooth like the nexus s?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=COelN9Ots0g
I have it too, but i didn't notice until just now. Doesn't bother me though lol.
EDIT: This only happens on my market, not my browser, just checked it.
Yep have it too I am just hoping an update fixes it, and for sure a good ol custom ROM by Myn for sure will
Meh, I deal with it.
no doubt this is crappy code... but i dont really care if the market does not scroll properly. If my web scrolls right and there is not real system lag.. then im McLovin my 3vo =)
hail to the hack .. cant wait!
Wow what a nitpicker. THE DEVICE JUST CAME OUT! Be patient. It's not a showstopping bug... just a minor annoyance. Sheesh.
Maybe i'ts just the app because appbrain scrolls extremely fast....
man some of you really need to have better things to do. Really market scroll lag, are you telling me you normally scroll that fast? Out off all the things people complain about scrolling. I mean common now, my so called nexus s does that sometimes too. No phone is perfect. I am waiting for the evo 3d to be in my hands on thursday and I am sure I would have better things to do with it.
jesus if you wanted an imediate stable mediocre os so fast you shoulda gone iphone. especially considering gingerbread is new, even newer the 3vo, so chills.
switch to a non live wallpaper. my choppiness in the apps drawer and browser went back to being butter smooth!
Who the Eff would be scrolling the market that fast anyways? I scroll slow enough so I can read! Besides, the market was the same way for me on my Evo, on any sense rom that is. AOSP roms and the market was buttery smooth. I'm sure it will be the same way with this phone. Sense always scrolls lists a little laggy. Scroll a little slower and problem solved! lol.
Clearly, icons aren't getting cached properly.
I have the lag to is it the phone or the market I'm trying to figure out

Considering I never open up the market, go to all applications and scroll back and forth as fast as possible, I'm all set.

Yes, I get choppy lag while scrolling through the XDA app, or also on the market. It is annoying.

Just did it, I forgot about the piss yellow and doo doo brown theme lol, but yea the choppy scrolling is gone. I always thought its because of the huge animated banners.
It's funny i was about to ask about this..I've gotten slow.lag scrolling sometimes and other times not..im rooted and oc'd to 1.8 using setcpu (until I can figure out the daemon) ..I noticed whenever I lagged setcpu had my CPU running like 300mhz..even when set to performance. All I want is for my CPU to go to the speed i select when the screen is on and back down when its off ..but instead it seems to bounce around too much..I noticed when I turn up both freqs up to 1.8 my browser is butter smooth..I get about 8000 in cf bench.. I wish I can get it to stay like that without having to keep it running so high while sleeping

Hmm...i didnt expect this from google.
Thats nowaday a crappy way of desinging a OS.
They need to make more improvements.
Makes sense.
Have you seen Windows Phone 7? It's sooooooo smooth its not even funny. I mean, it makes me smile every time I'm typing a text message and I switch it to landscape mode. In fact I switch between them because it just makes me smile.
On Android on the other hand.... its just plain bad and choppy even on a dual core device.
The accelerometer has always been one thing that I absolutely hate about Android. Its way too slow. On Windows Phone 7 its INSTANT. On Android its a wait of between 2-5 seconds. Very annoying. And when it finally changes orientation, the transition is crap. It doesn't even exist! (Although Motorola has added one in its Gingerbread builds)

But yes ICS should fix most of the problems. I still wonder if it will ever reach iPhone/WP7 smoothness.
Microsoft did one thing right with WP7: they made sure it ran the same no matter what hardware you were using. Including the unsupported HD2 haha.

Screen lag..

I'm starting to get more and more irritated with this phone. I sent my galaxy nexus back for this one and I am starting to regret it. Every time I browse facebook and swipe up or down sometimes it lags about a split second and then it will scroll. It also does it on web pages. I also play the drag racing game and I experience some lag in that game as well. Has anybody had problems like this?

picky are we? lol
here is the thing brother..... you gotta keep this in mind, when these devices are designed/programmed(but this has mostly to do with the programming aspect) the developers try to find a healthy balance between performance and battery efficiency. every now and then you may see it sputter ever so slightly, but it is intentionally designed that way. your other option is to have your GPU in overdrive every time you even breathe on your screen and suck your battery every time you send a text.
don't be so picky. you have a 400mHz GPU with multi-point rendering capability.... it's not the hardware brother....
Sense 4.0 lags sometimes, it sucks but I don't think we can totally eliminate it. I notice it on different occasions, usually when I wake the phone up or open the app drawer.

you are basing "better" on blips in the user interface? lol come on maannn
and for the record... every nexus i have picked up was laggy as balls.... maybe that has something to do with the fact that it has the same GPU in it as the OG nexus
just sayin
i mean if it is TERRIBLY BAD then i would say it is the rom you are on, some misc tweak, maybe your 2d forced rendering isn't checked under the settings, who knows.... but i have had mine for a week now and have maybe seen it sputter like once. and i use it pretty heavily.
The EVO is better for some coming off different phones with completely different hardware. The evo 4g vs LTE is a no brainer. LTE wins. The nexus on the otherhand has similar specs as the EVO. (Dual core, ics, screen resolution?) Anyways you get the point. Get a phone based on personal preference. Not because its "the next big thing" the nexus is a great phone for some. Definetly not for me. Hence the reason why I got the LTE rather than the ole so stunning S3 or nexus..
hardware is beyond than extraordinary. Root the beast and unleash its full potential (when the proper Roms are fully functional). Or wait out official HTC updates.. my 2 cents

Maybe you're just having a buyer's remorse cause you didn't go with the GS3 and convincing yourself the Evo is not good enough.
Two top phones right now for sprint is Evo LTE and GS3, everything else falls short.
The only stuttering or lag I get is sometimes on my lockscreen. I am using the weather lockscreen and the weather will stutter it's way in instead of being fluid. I think it is just the phone coming out of sleep.

I’ve actually noticed this as well and I agree that it’s a little annoying. When scrolling in pretty much any app, my finger will move about 0.2” before the screen reacts. Once it realizes that my finger is on there, there is no problem tracking.
I downloaded Touch Test from the market and confirmed that this is not a hardware issue. In that app, the moment my finger touches the display, it begins tracking. The lock ring also moves immediately on the lock screen, so it must be something in certain apps.
I have noticed lag in the browser when scrolling when I have flash enabled. I noticed on my Galaxy S2 that when I would scroll down a web page with flash content, any flash content that is active continues to to be active while scrolling and it was VERY smooth. On the EVO LTE however, anything active flash content will become inactive. The lag I have experienced seems to be when the Evo takes a split second to "pause" any active flash before it begins scrolling. The more flash on a page, the more lag I experience. I've simply turned off my flash player. It's annoying to have to do that, but I have come to terms with it.
