I read elsewhere in the forum that audio quality in the videos shot with the 3D has not been improved over the Evo 4G (which, if you were an Evo owner, you'll know sounds like it's ridiculously compressed). Is this really the case? Has anyone shot video with audio that they can link to? This is probably the one thing that would keep me from going with the 3D -- I know it sounds minor, but I do use mine to shoot video when I'm out and about, and the Evo's audio quality in those videos was depressing.

I had the Evo and the camcorder and camera quality was terrible. They advertise 8MP camera and 720P video, but if you compare the pictures and video to an Iphone4 you'll see it's no where near the quality for clarity, sound quality, low light, etc. I've been scouring the net looking for tests of the Thunderbolt camera/camcorder and cannot find anything. I suspect that it is exactly the same as the Evo's. Anyone have any details?
What makes the iPhone better isn't the camera, its the hdr effect

Nah, I have the iPhone4 and before the update that added HDR (which stores both versions of pictures so you can compare) it was better than my EVO, especially the video. I'm probably going to be picking up the Thunderbolt so this is a curiosity for me as well, though it's not a dealbreaker.
I have been asking myself this very question.
I'm kind of expecting the quality to be very similar, if not the same, as the Inspire 4G.
Both phones are very similar (in hardware design anyway) and are being released fairly close to one another.
I've actually seen a few videos floating around on youtube and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the video that the Inspire takes compared to my Dinc.
Having said that, the audio still needs some work, but I don't think that the Inspire has a noise canceling mic like the Thunderbolt has so I'm really hoping that the sound is much better on the Thunderbolt.
Only time will tell.
Anyone know what settings to use to convert a DVD to a video file to play on the EVO3d at the native resolution?
http://www.knowyourcell.com/htc/htc...deos_and_transfer_them_to_the_htc_evo_3d.html
I only partially agree with the article. When i convert the files i keep the source resolution. Even my Evo 4G could playback .mp4's that where natively 1080p. And before you start the "its screen cant playback above a x b resolution...", think about this...u can output upto 1080p via MHL/HDMI or DLNA. Additionally if you convert them to the maximum of the Evo 3D screen, what are you gonna do next year when your next phones resolution is higher?
Second, while its true it will playback .mp4 or .m4v...use .mp4, as DLNA streaming wont see .m4v files (old ones can just be renamed to .mp4),
Also, avg bitrate can be fine for some movies, but especially in action movies, it tends to leave slower parts of the movie in poor quality imo. I usually use constant quality and play with the setting til i get about 1.5GB or lower files from 1080p Blu Ray.
The above has worked out well for both my Evo 4G and Evo 3D

Damn it's great to see you here Myn!!
Well i'm curious, what CBR do you end up using? 1500kbps?
Reviving this old thread since I can't seem to find a newer one that discusses HandBrake output for the EVO 3D.
I just received my HTC MHL adapter, and it works quite well. However, I've noticed that my video quality tends to vary quite wildly by video when displaying on my Sharp Aquos 37", despite looking fine on the phone.
I'd love to know what HandBrake settings people are finding work best for MHL output.
I have taken several 3D videos and notice that the alignment of both lenses is not good. There is ghosting and crosstalk on almost every video I take, especially when looking at darker colors. Even when I hold the camera still, the right lens refocuses itself. I notice especially when I play the videos back on my
3D laptop. Is something wrong with my EVO or does it just take bad 3d videos?
Its possible your lenses are not in sync, I don't think there would be a way to fix it. How well does it play yt3d videos from the YouTube app? Are you using a screen protector? Dust/sweat/dirt on the lenses? All that can mess up 3d capturing too.
It plays 3d fine. I have Avatar 3D and it plays really well. It seems to be only the videos that I take. Here are some samples:
wait..it says I can't post outside links
I'd have it exchanged if you just got it. Don't let the store run the update and root that bad boy.
Can someone tell me about HTC amaze video, i very impressed with amaze and probably getting one soon, but i found complain about amaze's speaker volume and their "sound effect".
I not expert myself about video stuff, can someone take a look and tell me what really going on with this 2 video i found online?
Thanks!

Those 2 sentences above is a link, have to add www" in front for it to work~
I cant add any link because i'm a new user, so this is the best i can do. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for looking~
I can't check the links since I"m at work but I have to say I'm relatively impressed with the video camera. I feel that it does over sharpen the images a bit, and that it doesn't handle back lights well.
I'll see if I can upload an MP4 straight from the phone somewhere so you can see it.
Thanks for the reply.
I not concern about the camera, i heard good review about their camera. What do you think about their sound quality during video playback?
I still cant post any link from youtube, can you do a search on youtube with "HTC Amaze 4G 1080p HD Video Sample"? The comments under the youtube clip is concerning to me. " the audio is atrocious , sounds like a 99c mic through a friggin tube telephone. " either he did a poor job on taking the video, or maybe amaze does have sensitive mic.
The device does pick up a lot of sound so in a noisy area like the youtube clip, it was pretty rough. My experience is similar, but not as bad as those videos.
Hey Spovik,
Can you try something out for me? I "think" one of the reason why amaze is able to pick up so many sound because of the extra mic, i know there is couple of them near the camera and bottom of the phone.
This is my idea: can you try video recording while covering some of the mic up, see if the sound quality improves or not?
Thanks!

If you go to settings in the camera, there should be a way to turn off stereo recording. I also feel like that's what's giving the video some crazy loud weird audio. Please if anyone could test this out and let me know how audio is in video mode. I would hate to have to buy a phone with a wonderful camera but bad audio. I will probably buy this phone once I can find out how the audio is and if it's good.
I'll check this tonight. I don't know if I can replicate 100%, but i"ll try and record either some football or a movie (something which will hopefully allow differentiationg of the stereo sound).
Here are recordings. I recorded the same clip from LotR (Dolby 5.1) I stood in the middle of the room and extracted the audio from the MP4.
It's hard to tell and sounds pretty crappy in both formats, but I think it's more of the environment and the volume I had the movie playing, but the mono seems to sound a little better than stereo without the wavering audio.
- Stereo
- Mono
need an equalizer app to process the videos and adjust according to user specs, and preview, (like audacity for amaze)
has anyone been experiencing bad audio quality when recording in HD? i have the improved audio, video and pic mods but it still sounds real horrible like swoooshing sounds when the wind sometimes hits the phone

Yup, lol. I'm glad I invested in a travel zoom camera. The phone is nice for taking quick videos or pictures but realistically if I wanted to do either of those I would just use my digital camera.
