I haven't upgraded from the stock rom yet, but I'm considering it because it seems like I have a firmware problem. I got this phone new off of ebay a few months ago. At least every other day, the phone keeps saying "SD card unexpectedly removed, please insert a new one". It happens when I haven't changed card. I don't even have to touch the phone and I'll see the screen come on and say "sd card unexpectedly removed..." I have googled and I saw others experiencing the same problem. This is one thing that is keeping me from upgrading to a different ROM. I'm worried that if I change roms, maybe the internal problem with manifest during the procedure and brick my phone. Is this a concern that I should have? Or should I proceed with changing ROM's?
My other question is if someone else with this same phone has experienced this problem before, and did the problem go away when the ROM was changed?
Yeah, I just picked up one of these off ebay, and... the pins on the SD card slot are pretty bad, I dunno if that helps exactly but maybe something to check for...
Well I had the same problem.
. I rooted my phone didn't happened again .. but 90% of the time when I rebooted it didn't read any of my apps. Every time .. I got. Rom. Manger .. got clock work recovery and did a backup of my rom .. than I flashed mik cm7 .. never had those problems again ... and didn't. Have the problem were my phone restarted on it's on ...
From My LG Optimus P509 CM7
oh yeah, my phone restarts on it's own too. I forgot to mention, I assumed it could have been a bad connection leading the phone to not read the SD card, then read it, then not read it. It has a cheap looking lock-down mechanism that doesn't look like it would let the phone read the SD card all the time. So I cut a little piece of paper the size of the SD card and stuck it between the lock-down latch door and the card, it didn't fix a thing. So I ruled out a bad connection.
So blackrose, you had the same probs I have now and yours is fixed? I'll look up the mik cm7 rom and install that, are there different versions of the mik cm7 rom? If so, which did you choose?
Check the firmware version on your phone. Older firmwares had that issue, but I believe they were resolved in V10L and newer revisions.
You can go to LG's website and get the download link for the newest f/w version for your phone by putting your IMEI at the end of the address:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=INSERT IMEI HERE
You have to use KDZ updater to flash it.
!! disable LG modem in computer device manager !!
make sure you have msxml installed
set type to 3GQCT
set PhoneMode to DIAG
Select the downloaded firmware file
sit back and WAIT..
Ours the stock rom side I have the same phone from tmobile optimus t and have had the same problem with three of these phones (sold to friends over seas thats why so many) I suggest install custom recovery and rom as soon as possible it makes a huge difference in performance and fixes that pRoblem let me if know if you need help you can even pm me

I run linux on my laptop, I used to have my laptop dual booted when I had my hd2 so I could change out my roms but then I sold my hd2, had no use for windows so I deleted the partition. is there a linux version of the updater i need? or can i install the kdz updater through wine? does kdz updater run solid enough in wine so I don't have to worry about bricking it? I'm going to sell this phone for whatever I can get for it on ebay and I want it functional. I'm picking up another hd2 tomorrow for a great price.

i just tried going to the lg webpage you mentioned and I got a weird error. My IMEI is 012408001118364, and it says IMEI SV is 03. this is the exact link that I typed in my browser, I copied it and posted it here when it didn't work.

my phone has gotten worse in the last couple weeks. has anyone tried to see if it's just a faulty SD card? the problem has to do with the sd card, the phone says it's removed when it wasn't. I have an old 2 gig one somewhere that I'll put in it and see what happens. also my version is V10L
what do I need to put a different rom on my optimus t? and would it be running off of the SD card like I had to do with the HD2 or can it just run off of the internal memory?
my phone works perfectly now. I checked for updates and I have the latest update already installed on it, it's what came on it, V10L. So I deleted some apps off of the phone to clear up space. I grabbed a different 2gig SD card, formatted it with the phone, transferred all of my old stuff from it off of the other card that was in it and put it in the phone. Now I have had it running flawlessly for over a week. I don't know if it was the samsung SD card that was in it that was faulty, or if it was doing that because there were too many apps on it. I know some SD cards are junk, I don't know about samsung, the one I put in it is older but it is a kingston. I didn't have to root it or anything. But I still want to so I can delete some of this crap thats on it from when I got it.
So since this phone is linux based, how do I get to the terminal so I can su root or sudo. And what is the root password? I want to control this thing!
So maybe the problem was that I had too little space left on it, or maybe the problem was that the SD card is junk.

Just bought a P500 with stock 2.2. A couple of hours after using it it started to restart itself every few hours. From what i understood reading other topics 2.2.1 sorted it which brings me to my other problem.
When i first connected it to wireless network it said that an update is available and i had to connect it to the usb to apply it. LG website said that theres an update for P500 too. Installed the update tool but it keeps saying my phone is up to date and so does the LG Suite.Havent had the chance to connect it to wireless again after that so not sure if it still will say that.
Software ver: V10a-OCT-01-2010
Any help for either of these problems will be appreciated.
Thanks
Can anyone help please?
LG support answer : Mobile Phone Support: The P500 is one of our more recent releases, and as such is on the most recent available software; 2.2 Froyo. Currently there is no further update available, hence the Support Tools given information.
The updates are based on the region and service provided you are with. So it is best to contact them with questions regarding the latest updates. Not all of them will have the latest firmware.
What about the restarting problem?
Dud as I said in another thread , everybody has his own UNIQUE P500 . You could try to manually flash the newest firmware with kdz . The new fmw was posted in xda a few days ago .
But I suggest you go to warranty with your phone . I don't think the restart problem will be sorted out if you try the newest firmware.
Restarting problem will be hard to determine... there are numerous possibilities which could cause it:
1. Some of the apps you have installed may have compatibility issues with p500, hence resulting in constant reboot when it encounters an error
2. Not very unlikely, but a physical fault to the mainboard may also cause it to restart every few hours
I do not believe that every p500 is unique, since they're manufactured in batches, resulting in certain batch having characteristics which may be unique, but should not have such a strong impact on the user such as in this circumstance.
What I trully meant AzN and I wanted to hold it under SPECIAL as to not be rude , was that quality control in the P500 is rather mediocre.
I just noticed restart happened when SD unmounted and mounted itself for some reason. Would it be the SD clip problem or a software problem or the SD itself?

It has been reported that the problem is due to the low class of the stock sd card. Other users have confirmed that using an sd card with class 4 or class 6 will fix the issue.
I don't know bro I have a class 6 , 8 gig card and with a2sd I get some bugs from time to time . Now I am just using void without a2sd and it's grand . Haven't had any bugs for 1 week now.
a SD card class 4 solved it damn you cheap ass LG

My device was on stock 2.2.2 ROM until I upgraded it to the 407 ROM sometime back. It was working smoothly till yesterday before I tried to root it. After installing the streakmod, I booted the device in recovery mode to apply the update of superuser.zip. However, though I am able to see superuser icon in my menu still Busy box Installer tells me that the root user rights cann't be acquired.
This was just the tip of the problem.
Now when I restarted my device, the Dell logo is coming up. However after sometime, a message is getting flashed saying that
"File system check returned status 2048. ( I dont remember exactly what file was mentioned but it was pointing to system directory. ) Please send this unit to the software development for debugging. Formatting your device".
After that I again flashed the 407 recovery and the respective package in the device. However, the problem still persists and the same message appears after 2-3 reboots. Even the stock browser is throwing up an exception and Wifi option says Error beneath it.
Before I flashed the stock 2.2.2 ROM, I had the following config for the phone -
Android version - 2.2.2
Baseband version - GAUSB1A134700-US
Kernel version - 2.6.32.9-perf
OEM Version -GAUSB1A134700

Hi andy,
Thanks for the information. But I believe that the internal SD card is not user replacable. Is it?? How much effort it required on your end ?
Yes mate it is replaceable, theres two ways to get T it, 1 is to remove the lcd from the phone second is to cut away the plastic inside the phone battery bay to get at it, i chose to open mine as i didnt wanna start cuttin plastic, it is really easy to do you can replace it with upto a 4gb, anything higher and you have to edit files etc, i put in a 2gb sdhc been fine ever since, plus the phone will automatically format for you,

Cutting the plastic is an easy job and only takes a few minutes. The upside to this method is that it the inner SD card is accessible and it only has to done once. If you have any warranty left you void that. You could even remove it and make a backuo image periodically.
I replaced mine with an 8GB, class 10 card and the phone formatted it for me. There is more info here and here.
The system files are needed if you want to use the space for other than what the system uses it for. More info on using the internal SD for other purposes here and here. In my case I ended up with over 6 GB of system space to install apps. I can keep all of my apps on the inner SD Card.
Aah thanks for that marvin, i didnt realise that, now i know that im gonna upgrade mine

I had lots of problems with mine to i think it`s the 347 base band i read every post and downloaded DSC and it works great read all there post there is a guide to follow you will have 407 running in no time REMEMBER TO READ
One thought here for the OP: why not upgrade to 360 first before trying to upgrade to 407? That might solve your issues. I can't verify whether it would work or not, since I never used the official ROM to upgrade. I upgraded the baseband the hard way and use a custom ROM.
I don't remember how off hand, but isn't there a simple procedure to test your SD card first to see if that is in fact the problem?

It's been posted many times. Info in this link.
My internal was gone bad too and crashed 4 times in 2 months. after functioning very well for the first 2 months. It appeared a read write block error on the internal SD repeating the error 4 times proved the defect.
I replaced mine without real trouble with a 8 Gb SD class 10.
just removed the old one and replaced with the new one.
mind you i tried several cards and not all were installed properly.
Now i have a huge 6 Gb for my apps and no need for App2SD or Link2SD anymore. can swap any external SD without problems for any apps that way. everything is now installed internal including maps of 6 countries for europe.
On youtube you'll find a lot of movies how to dis assemble and reassemble the Dell Streak 5.
Grts
Ted.
Please correct me if I am wrong. All the applications get installed to the internal memory by default. I don't face issues when I keep them that way. When I acutally try to move the apps to SD, sometimes the move does not happens on first attempt. Sometimes it does. I think that's where the problem lies. Is it possible that due to a corrupt external card, the streak is getting checksum error and formatted on restart?
That.s a good guess if you can repeat it afew times it has some bad blocks when software is bad removing and installing wil not solve that. It only took me as many as 4 times to be certen about it.
No genius needed for that.
I had 230+ aps installed and som other data I always wanted to have so internal is my choice. General I used 2.5 Gb .

The dev can set it up so that the app is installed to the SD card. Few apps do this, but not every app defaults to internal storage.

Alright !!
In the mean time my internal SD contains 333 aps now including 7 country map data of europe stored. My external is free for any use. Very cool when mounted by PC and no broken apps.
This streak is so cool now and despite the fact that it is an older device it still can compete very well.
The only disadvantidge is the longer boot and long refreshing the app list in the app drawer after first boot and backup apps.
Just my 2ct

UPDATE: i have been using he card now for some time but experience some systeem freezes, nog fatal but for a few sec andere up. I am ging to install he Same brand 4Gb card class 10 and that should be more than sufficient for my needs. Internal up to 16 GB is not an option i guess. IT would be even worse i guess.
Hey Guys!
Prologue
I have a complex problem with my beloved Vibrant. First of all, I got it for Christmas a year ago. It had no issues, with a stock 2.1 (and after a kies update 2.2) firmware, it was fun for a first droid. After digging myself into the world of droids, I decided to root my baby, and put CM on it. It was about a month ago; I saw that there is a stable cm10 for the Vibrant. There were minor problems (could not exit cm recovery and boot the phone normally) with doing it, but at the end, it worked flawlessly.
Problems
Unfortunately, a few days ago, my phone started to have problems like "Trebuchet stopped working" and similar error messages appeared on screen. Yesterday my Vibrant stopped working. The only thing it could do was when I turned on, it showed cm recovery. I chose to reboot the phone, but again, recovery mode came up.
- Now, I use a stock 2.2 (Eugene's) but with this, I cant really use my Vibrant, except for calls and sms.
- Odin cant see my phone.
- I cant revert it to normal stock firmware
- When trying to put a cm10 to it, reboots into recovery it says: cant mount dev/block/mmcblk0p1
What I did
First of all, a lot of research. Really, a lot, but I suppose not enough, because I cant repair my phone.
- I tried to revert to stock (using AIO Vibrant toolbox). I put Cmenard's kernel (with cm recovery, as described in the official cm wiki howto) onto the phone, since then Odin cant see my phone.
- I have Heimdall, adb shell installed on windows, so tried some lines to revert the Vibrant to normal, no success
- Rooted with superoneclick, so I have root, and su.
Summary
My suspicion is that the internal SD card is corrupted. Anyhow, I tried to use parted, but cannot format my internal SD card. I found solutions that may help, but unfortunately I have no exterior SD card, to make those steps.
Any help would be highly appreciated, as I am starting to lose my mind, and I do not really have a backup phone (will definitely buy in January).
In the top of that, today is my birthday.
Greetings to all,

Yes, download mode is ok, 2 volume buttons pressed, then plug in the usb cable. Before the new kernel was put on, I used the same method and eg was okay with Odin, thats how I put on Eugene's mod as well.
No, (unfortunately) I use windows 7. Or do you mean, I should use ubuntu?

First and foremost, happy belated birthday. It's a shame this had to happen on your birthday... Especially since I have some rather bad news. In your post--which, by the way, was very well written--you mentioned getting the error "cant mount dev/block/mmcblk0p1" while in recovery. This is a pretty bad sign. More than likely, one of two things happened. Either you obtained the Encryption Unsuccessful bug or your internal SD card outright crashed. Either way you're going to need to purchase an external SD card if you wish to continue using your phone. No way around it bud, sorry.
I had the EU bug hit my device a month or two ago, and had to purchase an external SD card as a result. After partitioning the new SD card and tweaking the phone to run off of it, my phone runs great... But switching back to stock/installing a new ROM can be a tricky process...
Good luck. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you very much for the answer and the kind words. I will get an SD card then, I will need it later on anyway I guess. I will try this method you linked, and going to post about what happened (but not in the near future, Christmas is coming).
Good news, your phone runs great now after those things, it means I have a little chance at least. :fingers-crossed:
Thanks again, the best wishes for the holiday season!

Thanks! Yeah I was kind of disappointed, but maybe I can sort it out.
Okay, thanks again, and the best wishes to you as well!
Hey Guys.
Lately, I bought an sd card (class10, 16GB) and tried to breathe life into my Vibrant. Used this method (except the fact, that I used cm10):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665123
Actually this worked.
Before that, I figured out, that Odin couldn't see my device because of some driver errors Heimdall caused. (Or Heimdall/zadig installed some other drivers, to be more precise.)
So after reinstalling those drivers from Vibrant AIO Toolbox, I used that method.
But.
The final step, where you edit the vold.stab file, those two lines are swapped for me. Anyhow I tried to edit both ways (as written originally in the post, and tried to swap the lines) but unfortunately after editing, saving the file, and rebooting, the phone just stays at the animated cyanogenmod logo. Nothing happens. Really, I waited an hour or so, still nothing. Tried to reinstall everything, clear cache, dalvik, then phone reboots again normally to cm10, but as mentioned in the post, camera does not work.
Any thoughts would be helpful here.
EDIT:
That post says it should be this after editing:
#internal sdcard
dev_mount emmc /mnt/sdcard 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0
#external sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/emmc auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2
and my file contains this originally:
# internal sdcard
dev_mount emmc /storage/sdcard1 auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc2
# external sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /storage/sdcard0 1 /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.0/mmc_host/mmc0
So it would be great to edit these two lines correctly.
Bump. Any help would be appreciated.
This is the last and only problem with my phone, and it doesn't look like it's an unbeatable problem.

Thank you very much! Wow, this worked like a charm! One zillion thanks!
Hopefully this thread will help out many Vibrant users experiencing problems like this one was. Thank you all once again.
Hi guys.
Since then, I have flashed the CyanAOSP 2.9.0 ROM into my beloved vibrant, new kernel (gearkernel universal 1.1.2) and everything works fine, 4.4 is flawless in this device as well,
however
I am now facing some problems again, as the system cannot access the sdcard part, so with rootbrowser I can edit files and anything else, but camera, music player and gallery is not working.
I am thinking of a vold.fstab editing, but as 4.4 has this no more, I am stuck at this point. Any ideas of how and what to edit? Tried build.prop, no success so far. In CWM I can see that the sdcard is not mounted. Mounting it also did not help either.
Edit: I would think, editing the fstab.aries would be the key in this process, but I cannot really tell which part needs to be edited.
I was working on doing some minor Ace i hacking for a friend of mine but while trying to use the stock "e3" recovery to flash a root .zip file, I found that upon selecting Install update from SD card, the menu wouldn't advance and the recovery would spit out an error relating to being unable to mount the SD, I did not encounter this oddity when modifying a different Ace i.
I had less experience with this Ace compared to the one I had success with, so I cannot name any past hardware malfunctions or even if the SD card is the original one, though it does sport a capacity of 2GB, the same as the original. I can say this however: they're both s5830is and the - let's just call it - troublesome one is O2 branded as it features an O2 shutdown animation, while the other was unbranded, and the troublesome one is running stock firmware along with the stock kernel.
I have searched this section and found no other threads detailing such an issue, so I ask, would anyone know what is causing this? Is it some kind of carrier mod-protection? A damaged-but-otherwise-working-in-everything-but-the-recovery SD card? Yes, I have tried taking the card out, cleaning the connections and putting it back in. No results. No I haven't tried another cards yet as I don't have any at hand.
I would flash a temporary kernel as a workaround of this but this friend wants to avoid all kernel and rom-flashing related business, so please, unless there exists no other option, do not point me in such a direction. All help is appreciated.
hello,
I am using third p780 and I have similar problem in each one. As that last one comes from trusted source I would need to check it.
I am using AOSP fw now and I havent done any changes/restores/resets from the last year when I have configured phone. But in last time I see that I cant install more than 10-15 little apps,
from the bigger ones I have found gmail, chrome and I would like to install more than few little apps (<50MB).
Is there any possibility to check the andoid flash for 'bad sectors' ? I have heard long time ago that when I need to uninstall apps to install new ones that could be a syndrome of getting flash failures. My main storage was set to SDcard which is sandisk extreme 32gb microsd card - but I have seen that apps was installed to phone storage by default. I am pretty sure that the sd card is healthy.
How can I check that(phone storrage) ? Maybe in ADB mode? Maybe there is any app for that?

hello,
I am using third p780 and I have similar problem in each one.

Hi.
I have not found any software to do what you want.
Maybe sp flash tool can do that.
But... i have changed my P780 because of this space problem.
Try one MIUI, Older MIUI and see if in that firmware you can install more then 15 apps.
I do not think this is some hardware problem. In my opinion the small storage chipset is the problem.
Good Luck.
