On my Atrix 4G, I can't get the fastboot to work. I have installed the latest drivers for windows and created the rules files in linux and for both operating systems when I try to run fastboot I just get a <waiting for device>. Can anyone help me with this problem?

That happen to me. All i did was put the phone in fastboot mode and it connect right away. Press volumn down button while powering on the phone. When the screen said Fastboot, then you press up on the volumn button.
I'd suggest trying to run "fastboot devices" before any other commands, just to verify that you have connected to the phone successfully. If you don't get any response from the "fastboot devices" command, you've still got an issue. For my money, the probable sources are lack of drivers, or phone isn't in fastboot mode.
the piont is how to do?
I have the phone in fastboot mode, and fastboot devices returns nothing. Where would I get the correct drivers? I believe I have the correct ones, for windows that is. For linux I have configured the rules.d files as well.
Hi,
Use moto-fastboot, you can find links in the dev section from -eval and others, it will detect the device, also it supports large partitions, unlike the regular fast boot binary you might find via Google. If you do a lsusb and it shows an nvidia entry, you are good to go on the phone side.
Cheers!
Hi,
I have been searching the forums for it, and I have not been able to find the moto-fastboot binary. Could you link to it?

Hi
I have got a hero on the cheap currently using an iPhone boot looking to move over.
The hero has a custom rom on it, I would liketo try others. Holding down the home button and powering on just leaves it with the G2 boot screen. Holding down back button and power brings me into fastboot USB. When connected to the mac I am unable to see the device / list it using adb devices. If I boot into the os and connect to the mac not mounting the sdcard I can see the device with adv devices.
I'm trying to install a recovery image, this is proving dificult with not seeing the device in fastboot.
Has anyone any thought/suggestions on to resolve? Or point me in the direction of some threads to read.

use fastboot devices when in fastboot...
HI,
thanks for the reply, when in fastboot on the device I use fastboot which i have downloaded from the andriod site and put in my "tools" folder when trying to lash a recovery image it just comes back with a prompt saying "waiting for device"
thanks
just to make sure: you turn off the phone, then turn it on again while holding down BACK. this brings you to a screen with a white background and fastboot written somewhere. then you plug in the usb cable and execute "fastboot devices". if it still doesn't recognize your device then you got a problem somewhere, no idea where though. not sure if windows needs drivers or anything for fastboot to work correctly...
Yes that's correct.
Phone is recognize in everything other than when connected by fastboot.
Thanks for your input
I have bricked or atleast semi bricked my Folio and i dont know if it can be fixed. It began with damaged internal sd, so i try the format zip but no luck. May device have been like this 3 days now. I NEED HELP, AND YES I HAVE ASKED IN GENERAL SECTION. but i didnt get an answer for days. I need help by someone who can tell me how to set up fastboot. My folio boots i can get to clockwork recovery and i can get in to fastboot mode. I have working ADB on my computer. The install fails when recovery is writing boot.img iget this message: assert failed
write_raw_image("/cache/boot.img", "linux")
E:Error in /sdcard/FolioMod.zip
(Status 7)
It installs system.img fine. So i was thinking i could fastboot boot.img to the device and maybe it boots. So i put Folio in Fastboot mode, insert usb, and update driver, go to command prompt and write fastboot devices all i get is:
? fastboot
Is there anything special i have to keep in mind to setup fastboot for Folio. I used the fastboot that came with SDK. Do i have to add something more to .inf file for fastboot? Do have to use any special fastboot just for Tegra2 devices? Is my fastboot mode damaged? Please i need help i have waited for days in general section not one answer. Hoping on better luck here in the dev section
Are you on Windows or linux?
Normally if adb is working, fastboot should be working too. Just boot your folio into fastboot mode and connect it to your pc. Type 'fastboot devices', if something shows up you are fine (might be just a bunch of ???s).
Otherwise (on win) you need to modify the driver a little. There is a howto around here. I will add a link when I found it.

But I think if adb is already working, you will be fine. Just make sure you have a recent version of fastboot from the android sdk. Older versions are incompatible with tegra2 based devices.

My PC doesn't detect my phone when I use Fastboot Devices when my phone is on Fastboot mode. I get a blank space in return. Can anyone help me with this? ADB works fine, it's only Fastboot. Is there a Fastboot driver that I might be missing?
Thank you.
Edit: I'm trying to unlock the bootloader of my phone.
Me too !
Drivers are here: https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb
These are the ones I use for ADB/Fastboot.
May I ask if anybody solved this already?
Having the same issue, tried various drivers, but fastboot won't find my phone
Help is highly apperciated!

If you using windows 10 have you disable the drivers signature verification.. And search on here (XDA) for Min ADB & Fastboot tools, easier than using SDK tools unless you modding apks ect..
Okay, I got this working.
When in fastboot mode, you have to go to the device manager, update driver, and manually choose the google fastboot driver. Then the ! is gone and it works.

I have literally tried everything. Sony's website does NOT have driver for the XA2!!! What gives?
I'm trying to unlock the bootloader through flashtool but I keep getting this message "Device connected in flash mode but driver is too old".
I also tried the 15 Seconds ADB Installer thing, no luck.
I also tried following Sony's guide but get stuck at the bold part:
Turn off your device.
Connect a USB-cable to your computer.
On your device, press the Fastboot key (Volume up for most devices, see Useful key combinations) at the same time as you connect the other end of the USB-cable.
Windows users: When asked for a driver, open the Devices and Printers directory, click on the fastboot driver and press Update. Browse and point towards the location of the new android_winbus.inf file.
When your device is connected, open a command window on your computer and go to the platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder.
Enter the following command:
fastboot devices
Verify that you get an answer back without any errors.
I don't have the option to open a CMD, but only powershell, and powershell doesn't let me run the "fastboot devices" command properly. Keeps trying to open an application.
What else can I do? I found some driver online and tried to install it through "legacy" mode in device manager but I keep getting some kind of error.
Can someone please help me out? I really want to root this thing
Thanks!
Anyone?
Wow! I came here looking for an answer to the same question and nothing but crickets? Sony does not list a driver for this device and I find it odd. Does it use the XA driver? You would think they would be listed together if it did. Nobody has an answer on this?
I found out you use the XZ2 driver. Worked for me.
I am on an older macbook pro running High Sierra. the phone I'm using is a Blu G5 running android 9. I have the developer options unlocked and oem unlocked and usb debugging checked. When i open my terminal i type cd and drag and drop the platform tools folder into the terminal window changing the directory to the folder containing the adb and fastboot files. I can use adb commands such as adb devices and get the serial number and it says devices. So far so good. Then i reboot the phone into the bootloader manually or using command adb reboot bootloader and the phone goes into fastboot mode. I know because it says it on top of the screen in white letters. Then i run into the problem fastboot commands don't work. If I type in fastboot devices nothing but a new command line shows up. When i type in any other command like fastboot device or fastboot oem unlock it says "waiting for any devices." I wait and wait but nothing happens. I have looked on the internet for a solution but all i find is that the driver may not deinstalled properly. I have tried manually installing fastboot driver and used sdk manager to install the fastboot driver and I have tried it using the terminal in android studio but no matter what when i try useing fastboot commands i get the "waiting for any device" message. Does any have a solution or could anyone recommend and forum for android development on MacOSX?

Seems the Fastboot driver is invalid.

I have literally tried like 10 different sdk tool downloads just platform tool download basically every thing i can find. By chance would you or anyone out there have a working driver for MacOSX 10.13.6? or link a guide that can help me figure this out. I have made a little progress with a forum on xda about fastboot on macs but i still just keep getting the waiting for any device message.
@DimDreams
May also be that the Fastboot Android mode is not available on the phone in question.
I've had similar issues before and noticed that fastboot mode works better via USB 2.0 than USB 3.0. Maybe check which port you're using and switch. ADB seems to work well either way, however. Hope that helped.
I just had this problem as well and I found this, what worked for me is first boot your phone into bootloader mode with
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
. While in the bootloader fastboot worked for me. Hope this helps someone!
