I'm having a lot of wi-fi issues with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that I haven't had with other tablets. I returned the first one because of this and the replacement is suffering from the same issue.
I can't use streaming music apps like Pandora or Tune In Radio for long periods, because those apps freeze up and it seems like the wifi is going to sleep after some period of time when the screen is off. The wifi sleep policy is set to never.
While I never see the wifi disconnecting, I do see the icon turning gray quite often. Not sure what gray means, I've even been able to download apps while the icon was still gray.
I don't really see any complaints about the wifi. Do you guys think it works fine?
Kinda on the fence about returning this for a third Galaxy Tab 10.1 or just returning it for a refund and hoping the Thrive is not too heavy for me.
I do like the tablet. But the wifi is just killing me. I really do like streaming music.
I would attempt to update the firmware on your wireless router before you swap the tab again...or replace the router itself. I've never had a disconnect on any of the four wireless access points I access daily.
I know with the Cyanogen series of ROMs the grey/Green (or Cyan) color on the wifi is used to indicate that the device can make a connection to google's servers.
Not sure if it is the same here...

I've tested with four different routers between my home and work. Unfortunately the issue has occurred with all of them.
This puzzles me. I've had two Xooms and two Transformers and none of them had this problem. Now I've had two Galaxy Tab 10.1s and both have had it.
I'm just having rotten luck with Android tablets I guess.

I'm having similar issues with mine, just assuming it is a firmware issue that will be resolved with time.
The router can handle only five devices make sure you dont have more than five devices also turn off all the wifi devices like xoom etc unplug modem and router for few minute and then plug back modem after all the lights of modem plug the router then after your router restarted turn your galaxy tab on and put it in flight mode and then take it out of flight mode now the problem should be fixed. Remember donor turn your other devices on until you connect galaxy tab to wifi and surf and check how connection is now.
To me it just looks like router issue. Also you can check wifi connectivitity where stores have free wifi like Starbucks etc
I have the gray wireless icon on my tablet as well, but I do not have wireless connectivity issues. I have seen it blue recently, connectivity was fine then as well. not sure why the wireless icon is gray one day and blue the next, but I connect to a series of different routers since I travel a lot.
My icon is gray when I wake up the tab, then turns blue, but I do have it set to turn off wifi when it sleeps.
The one time my wireless icon turned gray was when I had no internet connectivity, but was connected to the wireless network. It turned out that my daughter had accidentally turned off the modem, so although the network was up, we had no net access. My opinion is that gray indicates some type of connection error.

You can try Advanced Wifi Lock (Free) app. I have not had issues on my tab, however I did on my TB and this app worked like a charm for me.
I had the same issue.
I reset my router's configuration to default and just set up the typical WiFi settings and left everything else at default.
Since then, no problems!
I believe it is due to some mysterious router settings. Because the day before i first recognized the WiFi issue, i played with the router's settings.

How do you know that the router can only handle 5 devices? He didn't state what he was using, most routers (except for 3G/4G WiFi Hotspot devices) can handle FAR more than 5.

Sometimes when I wake my nook from sleep it wont connect to my wifi.
When i go to my Wireless settings, it shows that my WIFI is On but it it does not detect any networks(there are over 10 wifi networks in range (apt building)).
I go to turn wifi off and it grays out and I get a message that says "Unable to stop Wifi".
The tablet locks up and reboots. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have seen this once or twice. A router reboot can help a little, but it hasn't been enough of a problem for.me that I've tried to do anything else. All of my Android devices have had problems with my router now and again.
I dont think its my router. Ive got 3 Android phones, A kindle fire, 1 Asus Transformer, multiple laptops, Xbox 360's, wii and multiple IOS devices hooked up to my network and none of them have complained about my wifi being busted. The nook tablet is the only one doing this. My first nook tablet did do this at all. I am wondering if this one has a defective WIFI chip
Yes, I have this same problem on my home wifi.
But in my office, everything is ok.
I have had the same issue. I just reboot the NT. It happened this morning, it was charging overnight with the low battery warning comming on last night before charging. Perhaps that may have something to do with it. I'll try to see if it's on it's charger next time it happens.
I had issues with mine doing that somewhat often. It would even happen during use. I was non rooted with a couple of sideloaded apps. Finally I got fed up and took it in. They swapped me out for a new one and I've had zero issues since.
I was lucky in that both me and my wife got these and I had a point of reference. Her tablet had no wifi issues while mine did. That was what led me to believe there was a problem with mine.
If you keep having the issue, you might want to think of getting it replaced.
WiFi problems only on one router.. Connected - No internet.
The WiFi on my Rooted Nook tablet works great at home, at in-law's, at parents, at neighbors houses. But at church it would find the signal and accept the password then said - "Connected - But no internet". It had full bars. The IP address was some generic number with mostly zero's. I had access to two different iPhones at the time and they both worked and connected to the internet with appropriate sequential IP addresses. I rebooted the D-Link router and my Nook Tablet with the same results. Any Ideas??

Me thinks that your deity doesn't like the idea of you rooting B&N's device.
What are the IP addresses of the other devices, the NT doesn't like nonstandard network protocols.
NT reboot required to get WiFi working
I purchased two Nook Tablets for my kids. Both are rooted using Snowball-mod. Both typically work well, but then refuse to connect to my home wireless network after some time. I have several other laptops and PCs connected to the same WiFi network with no issues. Only the Nook Tablets are unable to connect (after several hours of use). Rebooting the Nook Tablet always solves the problem... until it happens again. I have not found a patter to this yet (i.e. what might be triggering the WiFi to stop operation). If anyone find a solution to this issue, I would love to know what is found.
Several of us have found WiFi will lock out when the device is in sleep mode. Killing WiFi prior to sleep seems to stop this mysterious behavior, for me anyway.
Swyped from my rooted BNTV250 using Tapatalk
Is it known whether a un-modified ("stock" B&N NT) also requires WiFi to be disabled before entering sleep mode? If this is not an issue with an un-modified Nook Tablet, then perhaps this issue can be corrected soon.
Hi all,
The NT does not support Channels above 11 on WiFI networks...so if you router is on Auto-mode, it might choose a channel higher than that...and puff...no net...
Also, I had a Netgear Router which had some WPA2 incompatiblities with my both my Blackberry and my NT. Flashing the Router's firmware, also solved my problem.
Hope my experience is helpful.....
Cheers,
Gizmo
Gizmo, thanks for the suggestions but I do not think this is a router channel issue. What is happening is that the NT WiFi seems to lock-up (possibly driver issue). Bringing up Settings and tapping to turn off WiFi results in a grayed-out WiFi toggle (not "Off" but inactive). Attempting to touch WiFi again after this produces a message similar to "WiFi is not responding" (I don't remember the exact message now). My routers are set with fixed channels 1 and 6 as well.
Hi, I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble getting WIFI to work on my NT. The thing is: it only works disabling the password on my home network! But I want to maintain a secure connection... Can someone helpe me? Thanks in advance!
waking the wifi
Don't know if I'm late or not, but I actually found a resolution to this issue by downloading an app from the Google Play store called Wifi Manager. It's free and as soon as you launch it, it'll instantly re-wake and reconnect your wifi within less than 1 second. It's not intended for that use but it helps big time!
My wifi connection often wrong, always in after a period of using, have no access to the Internet. Every time the wifi turned off to open another can get to the Internet, can wifi signal is always full. I searched a lot of method to did not solve, including XDA * # # 0011 turn off on wifi power save mode, when problem solving, but after a while just the same. And with only G mode and so on route, are not solutions. Change a lot of Rom, the kernel baseband all not line.Who's a way to solve?
I am not sure if this is the case but - have you tried different router? My S3 for example has issues when I go to my friend's house (he has some old/er Belkin router). However, when I am home wifi is blazing fast and no issues what so ever (cisco e3000).
my phone has a slight different problem, the phone detects strong signal for all my wifi, but will only save it, and not connect right away, some will not even connect, and sometime the speed is very slow.

I am sure there is no porblem with the router,SGS2 and IP4s with the same router is fine.
I'm getting WIFI problems when waking from deep sleep. My settings are set to keep WIFI on when sleeping only when plugged in, as i find this extends my battery life a little more.
Sometimes it reconnects when waking up, and other times it doesn't and i have to turn WIFI off and then on again to force it to scan and reconnect. If i don't do this and check WIFI, it says it's scanning, but never finds or connects to a network.
Anyone else get this?! I read somewhere about sleep of death on GS2?
There is a known problem with the wifi, I have just changed my phone and so far evrything is working.
been through 9-10 phone with different problems.
Ok, i've tried turning off WIFI power save in the system settings *#0011#
I'll report back with my findings in terms of waking from sleep and possible additional battery drain...
Turning off powersave didn't help on my speeds tho. My SGS2 can pull around 5-600KBs a second, while my SGS3 only pulls roughly half despite being at the roughly same location (ie laying next to each other)
Having problems with Wifi streaming and YouTube very slow, stop and start every few seconds, got to be the phone as all my other devices stream fine. I have unchecked avoid poor connections in wifi advanced.
Any one else having this problem, will try factory reset.

My facebook app is not working great in my phone. Youtube has been fine so far but I find my internet quite slow at home as I have rubbish internet speed. Also in peak times I get very slow internet connection.
Wifi speed still slow, only on this device,
Also is the . 69 firmware carrier specific?
No firmware update prompt on my phone.
no option for 5GHz in wifi advanced menu

A couple of things to try:
* test with other access points
* restarting the router
* disconnecting other devices
* forgetting the network on the z2 and readding it
I actually got great wifi speeds with my z2. It was even able to max out a 100 Mbps cable broadband connection on an AC router. Worked fine in n-mode also.

Have you tested on any other networks?
Take a trip to Starbucks! See if you get any better speeds there (and a nice latte, damn I'd kill for one right now).
glas to see im not the only one. Google Play Store @ 0.02mb/s
What kind of router do you have and how far is it? I'm able to maintain 2-3MB/s (16-24Mbit/s) over a distance of 20 feet with walls and everything in between.
After getting my phone last Tuesday ive noticed this little bug as well, sometimes downloading/updating google play apps it'll be like 0.5MB/sec but usually when I use drop down menu and quick settings and turn off wifi(give it about 10/20secs) then reactivate it im back to around 8-14Mb/sec, some apps dont even show a download progress its that fast lol.
I believe it might be a 5Ghz wifi problem as my BT hub shows my phone connecting to 5GHz channel with no way to stop it apart from turning 5Ghz off at the router :/
So hopefully sony will either fix bug or give us more wifi options like already mentioned so we can make phone connect to what we want.
K stand corrected phone can/does switch between 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, router shows phone connected at 2.4Ghz now. Just updated an app while connected on 2.4Ghz and no problem.
Z2 D6503 Wifi dropping issues
I seem to be getting the same sort of wifi issues as previously stated. I cannot hold a wifi connection on the 2.4ghz band fro more than 20s before its dissociated (ie i still have full connection to the router (3 bars) but cannot get through to the internet). This happens no matter what router i am connected to, whether its at home or at work.
I have tried:
Setting the Wifi optimization checkbox off. No difference
Avoid poor connections is off. No difference.
Stamina mode is off. No difference.
Keep Wifi on during sleep is set to Always. No difference.
Sleep timeout to 30mins. No difference.
I have factory reset the phone. No difference.
I have also check to see if it is my router at home. I have switched between every channel available which made no difference. Security is Wpa/Wpa2 PSK AES which makes no difference. I only have the 2.4ghz available on that router at home (same at work).
My Note 3 and HTC One connect to both routers with no problems at all and do not drop out. Same goes with Sony Vaio Laptop.
I have installed Wifi Fixer on my Z2 to see if it can alleviate the problem and it does somewhat. instead of manually having to turn on and off the wifi toggle to reestablish a connection, the Wifi Fixer does it for me.Approx. every 20-30s in its log it will show the phone "dissociating" from the router, and the the app tries to "reassociate" the connection.
I can connect through wifi transfer to my Note 3 without issue, and the same goes for my TV, so it cant be a hardware fault, as the connection is still excellent strength for both (as well as the router, tested with Wifi Analyzer). This is a very frustrating problem as it makes watching youtube movies impossible, and hotspotting, skype calls, etc.....
And dont even get me started on the bluetooth dropouts. I am disconnected from a bluetooth connection every 66-70s without fail no matter what i try. No issues with my Note 3 and HTC One in the exact same conditions. It will disconnect then reconnect straight away with a delay of about 3 seconds, which makes calls and listening to music a VERY unpleasant experience.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I love everything else on this phone but this wifi/bluetooth connection issue is making it unusable.
connecting to my bt home hub 4 via 5GHz band only has solved my wifi drop out problems.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
For me slow Wifi resulted in many issues, You-tube video cannot be played, video streaming from a network storage cannot be done, Facebook videos will stop at the middle etc where the most evident issues. I tried everything possible to resolve this issues and searching the internet also didn't help. Finally decided to fresh install, used PC companion and re-installed the complete software, then restored all apps using google backup service. After this there is no issue till now. The software version is the same I had before reinstall. But now the Video streaming and apps using internet become very responsive.
thanks

(April 24th, 2015) After searching for a solution to my wifi dropping I collected a comprehensive list that has helped in one way or another. After seeing similar issues on S5 phones it appears this isn't solely a S6 problem. If you find or have used a method not on the list please report and I'll add it.
Possible fixes for Galaxy S6 WiFi problems:
Factory Reset
“Forgetting” your Wifi Network and Reconnecting
Settings ->Wi-Fi. Hit menu then Advanced. Make sure Keep Wi-Fi on is set to Always.
Settings, more networks, mobile network, uncheck Connection Optimizer
Under the Wi-Fi settings uncheck "Smart Network Switch"
Resetting the Modem/Router
Settings→wifi→WPS Button and same button on modem/router to 'lock on'
Switching from DHCP to Static Connection on Phone
Connect to your router's 2.4GHz band instead of 5GHz
Install a DNS changer app, select primary/secondary servers to Google or yandex.
Changing the Router Bandwidth Settings
Changing the Router’s Broadcast Channel
Adjusting the router security settings to WPA or WPA2
Enable WMM in your router settings
Disable IPV6 in your router settings
Calling your ISP and upgrading to a Higher Bandwidth/Speed
Wipe phone cache
1) Power off the Samsung Galaxy S6
2) Hold the power off, volume up and the home button all at the same time
3) After some seconds, the Galaxy S6 will vibrate once and the recovery mode is started
4) Search for the entry called “wipe cache partition” and start it
5) After a few minutes the process is complete and you can restart the Galaxy S6 with “reboot system now”
Disable phone's wifi power saving mode
1) Open your phone dialer
2) Enter *#0011#
3) Select more (top right)
4) Select WiFi
5) Turn off WiFi power save mode(enabled by default)
6) Exit and hopefully your WiFi connectivity issues will no longer be a problem

(April 11th, 2015) Anyone experiencing wifi dropping out? It seems to happen when I require it, ie browsing themes or downloading apps. It will lose wifi and the lte icon appears and the screen freezes temporarily until wifi is restored. Last night this happened like 6 times one after another which wasd very annoying.
WiFi working petectly fine connected to my as router

Yes, I am having the same issue. WiFi drops out, screen freezes and then WiFi comes back and everything works again :/
It seems to have settled down a little now, only seems to happen when there is quite a bit of WiFi activity.
It kept happening to me while I was downloading a GPS map and also when syncing Spotify.
I am connected to a 5GHz AC router, what sort of connection are you using?
Yes,
My device has also done this also around 4 - 5 times and i was thinking could it be Smart Network Switch which is on for me.
i have also noticed the wi-fi has dropped out for when the phone is asleep and i awake it.

I'm going to a friend's house later and will see if the same issues occur on his network.
I'll be able to do some tests at work tomorrow.
I haven't had it happen today at all :/
I downloaded Angry Birds Space 3 times this morning and no wifi drops. I was on the road and something locked up where I couldn't swipe between home screens or open the app drawer, noted I had wifi on even though I was in the car outside of a network. Didn't get to test the wifi at my friend's house but just tried downloading AB again and wifi dropped out.
This is getting annoying. Thinking I might see about going in to BB to exchange, this isn't a glitch I can live with or risk being a hardware defect. I plan on contacting Samsung to make sure they make a note, hopefully they are aware of this.
Galaxy S6 (not the edge.) Same issue. Wifi drops. Music stutters. Have to turn wifi off and back on to reconnect. Using Apple airport express.
Same thing here with galaxy s6 edge. Wifi keeps dropping out. Web pages too slow to load.
Will return the phone tomorrow.

Jesus, these phones are gitchy as all hell. I get mine Thursday. Going to mess around with it for a week and if I keep having these same problems I'm just going to return it and move to something else. I've never seen soo many issues with a new phone in both software and hardware.
If anyone can test other wifi networks or exchange phones, please report back with results.

I tried a few of those, others aren't necessary. I did 2 factory resets and the wifi was fine downloading 54 apps but dropped at the last one, and lasted all 55 but dropped later. I'm going in for an exchange tomorrow unless someone posts a magic fix.
The Recomhub website helped me fix my WiFi dropping problem. Thanks for the link, it really solved my issues!
5GHz Network
I've been testing this, because it is really annoying me now.
When I am connected to my 5GHz AC Network at home it drops out and freezes the phone quite a bit.
When I am connected to my 2.4GHz N Network at home, there is never an issue. Wireless actually seems to work better on this network.
So, for me at least, this problem is being caused by the 5GHz networks and switching back to 2.4GHz makes the problem go away.
This is an annoying bug, I have emailed Samsung about it, let's see if anyone replies.
My router is Simultaneous Dual-Band N (2.4 & 5 GHz) so I wonder if that is causing my issues. No idea how to remedy it at the moment.

Mine is too, but I have the ability in the router to separate the two networks, so my 5GHz network has a different SSID than the 2.4GHz one.
I've been connected to the 2.4GHz network all of tonight and done quite a bit of downloading to test it and it hasn't dropped out once, yet on 5GHz it would have done it at least twice already by now.
I cannot replicate this problem at work on the 5GHz Network. It must be something to do with the channels they are set at.
I will try and change some channels on the work network, see if I can get it the same as at home and then test again.
I have a call booked with Samsung who are going to remote my phone, hopefully they can pinpoint something
I can't even connect to my home's 5GHz, the 2.4GHx is what I'm testing.
I went to BB Wednesday and the Samsung rep wasn't aware of any wifi issue or remedies beyond what is mentioned in this thread. Of course I didn't lose wifi the brief time on their wifi network so the guy didn't know what to say other than contact Samsung support.
I tested this at my house last night.
64GB White Edge AT&T on 5.0.2
E3000 router with DDWRT
N700 Router with DDWRT
Both dual band, both running 2.4 and 5 Ghz
Both set to 40 channel width
Both with channels spanned correctly for no overlapping
Never lost connection while downloading and updating all apps throughout about 2 hours of use. Speeds saturated my broadband link (50Mbits/Sec) and never had a problem. However, I don't know about battery drain as I'm brand new and still letting everything settle for another few days before commenting/testing.
So, I got my S9+ (international version, DUOS, 256 GB) last week from the Samsung store. I am on stock ROM (and will stay as long as my warranty lasts or someone finds a way to root with Knox 0x0, which I am not expecting).
At home, I have a WLAN Mesh (AVM Fritz!Box 6590 Cable, 2x AVM Fritz! 1750E Repeater on a wired connection), everything working great with any device.
Except my S9+. It connects and everything is fine, at some point - especially when using it for e.g. streaming Netflix or so - it will stay connected to the WLAN but will say "no internet access". Switching WLAN on and off fixes the issue until it happens the next time (minutes to hours later). I have no special settings, no neighbouring networks which would interfere. I have 2,4 and 5 GHz active and automatic channel selection. All other devices in my home work with no problems. I have found similar issues froim users on other Samsung phones (S6/7/8 series (my former S5 on Resurrection Remix Oreo does not show t his behaviour)), but no answers that worked (like forget the network, reboot and reenter credentials).
Quite annoying, anyone knows a fix? Big THANKS in advance.
No one experiencing the same thing or havin any ideas?
I have had the same issue in the beginning with the phone. I have a router with a cisco switch connected to it. The standard router's wifi wasn't sufficient in coverage through my house. I got hold of a cisco AP and connected it to the switch and disabled the wifi on the router. That's when my issue started. Fiddled around trying various options, but the one that worked for me was to tell the phone to forget my network, restart the phone and then "setup" the wifi on the phone again(password for wifi needed to be entered as it sees the network as a new one) Haven't had the issue after that. I did notice at my office that even though the wifi conection is good, that if it goes below a certain percentage, the mobile data will kick in, although I have that option switched off. I also picked up that if your line connection's speed goes very low for whatever reason, the same problem appears again that the phone assumes there is no internet
Thanks, this is what I've read from other threads (with S7, S8), too. But this didn't work for me. My repeaters get ther signal through LAN cable and I have a fast connection, coverage all over my house and garden. I really do not have an idea on what to try...
