[Q] Evo 3D or wait? - HTC EVO 3D

Now that people have the phone in their hands, is it worth it to upgrade to the Evo 3D. Since there are rumors of the SGS2 (within) coming to sprint on the 24th of july, would people recommend waiting or just get the 3D now and calling it good?
No BS assessment

HTC=LEGENDARY
SAMSUNG=NO COMMENT
I love my evo 3D its godlike, 3D is actually bad ass, I thought it was going to be annoying/gimmicky lol.

Honestly you could second guess yourself to death.....There's always going to be the next great phone that's just around the corner. I got my 3vo and I love it, plus personally I'd never by another Samsung phone in my life.....but that's my opinion. If you look at the phone, try it, like it, and can see yourself using it for 22 months go for it, if not wait for the next one.

So you think samsung will be as bad with updates as they were with the previous galaxy phones? I had an epic but i returned it because of the screen wobble and froyo never coming
I guess the real question is will anything coming in the next month be honestly significantly faster than the EVO 3D? If not, then why wait

My personal opinion is get the Evo. Even if the SGS2 comes out in July, you can always swap. Also, most any phone thats going to come out in the group is going to perform more than adequately. I like the look and feel of the Evo 3d, and HTC has a history of dev support.

I don't know....maybe they turned over a new leaf, but in the past I've had too many problems with Samsung to give them another chance. I had my HTC HeroC for the last 16 months and it has been a wonderfull phone...now my son has it. Good quality, lots of potential, durable.....but hey these are just my own opinions. Go have a look for yourself, if you like it get it. It's a pretty safe bet that in the next month Sprint's not going to put out anything that's going to exceed this phones capabilities.

The problem is that Samsung's international support is better than for their US products. Whether this is squarely on Samsung's shoulders is up for debate. They at least appear to be trying to appeal to the mod scene and with more than just words. I like their AMOLED screen, but I like the high res of the Evo 3d. They both look like great phones, but the Evo 3d got here first.

I guess I'll just go for it. It does look like there are some issues, but of course you always hear more from the people with problems than those who are content. Plus HTC looks like it has been receptive to fixing problems.

Buy the E3D and if you don't like it you have 30 days to exchange it.

You do realize that Samsung has provided the CyanogenMod team with SGS2's? That means that Cyanogen will most likely use that phone as the base for his ROM.
Samsung is loosening up their hold on their phones and the specs on the SGS2 phone are sick. I'm holding off for that phone instead because I won't use 3D as I already get migraines.
I'll wait for the next best thing.

And always be waiting? If sprint came and said officially the within was coming on july 24th, and samsung would give better updates than it did with the epic. I would wait. But is the galaxy s 2 (within) going to be significantly better than the 3D?

Alright so Now that is appears as though the EVO 3D will never attain full Root lets see how big of a deal this really is.
I haven't made up my mind yet...however I am seriously considering it.
The phone in itself is still bad ass and i am pretty sure you can still gain Root and do some minor modifications.
However, the fact that you can not fully customize and flash roms and kernels that fit you the best is a big turn off.
HTC just turned into Apple with the elitist take it or leave it attitude in my opinion.
Not me its the future for most phones i'm not going to stay with an evo forever because of it. Besides eventually someone will figure a way around it if not with the 3d with something else. Look at the ps3 uncrackable supposedly and the xbox 360, psp and so on and so on where there is a will there is a way.
It saddens me that I won't be able to mod my device that I paid for, but I'll still get it, it think. Maybe I'll wait for it to release then get a 4g, instead. We'll see.

I got a Nexus S 4G off contract just because a Nexus is always worth owning. I was able to attain my upgrade again and was ready to pull the trigger on the 3D and alternate until I found a preference, if ever. Now? Not a chance. Will stick to the Nexus and use my upgrade on either the next Nexus or a next gen WP 7.1 in the fall.

Be careful on what you say. That can give false hope and I hate to see people buy this phone expecting that someone will get on it and find themselves like other phone users.....sitting with the exact same phone they bought a year later.
Samsung Galaxy S 2, here I come! Unfortunately, I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while.
I will shed a tear for the EVO 3D on release day, mainly because I wanted the hardware improvements. But I'm not going to put myself in the same boat as the Droid 2 and Droid X which still have no root!
I still plan on getting it day 1 as well, I'm not really sure why so many people think Samsung is the magical catalyst in the equation to stop buying HTC products.
The Galaxy S looked great from afar, and that's pretty much all that it did. What makes anyone think Samsung suddenly got their act together and will be releasing timely, seamless updates for GSII? I'm confused...not to mention all the countless other flaws it has.
I'd much rather own a locked HTC phone than deal with the garbage that came from all angles of the current Galaxy S line.

I'm still going to get it. I like sprints service and samsung has to prove that they can keep phones up to date. Plus, sprint does not get a whole lot of new phones like the other companies.
My game plan had changed, however. Before this news, I was going to use my upgrade and then trade in my evo. Now, I'll just buy the phone retail, save my evo and upgrade discount. That way, should something better come during quarter four, I have discount options, plus to the ability to sell the 3d and my evo.

If you have a discount available but won't use it now for the 3d but use the discount down the line, why not save the money now and pay full retail on something else down the line. What if down the line you decide to keep your 3d and not buy something else.
If you are willing to pay full price for a device, might as well keep your money now and in your pocket instead of Sprints. Don't see your angle on this one.

my thoughts exactly.
I don't know yet. I never really used the Root feature on my Hero, just for the occasional new look every few months. Not too sure that no root will be that big a deal for me. As long as its fast(er than my hero) and works for texting like it should, I'll survive.
Wouldnt matter to me i find all the customize apps on the market already matching my needs. I will probaby worry if i cant upgrade to the next firmware of 2012

+1 on being harassed by the Mrs. for spending too much time on my phone---especially when I am in recovery/rebooting when she is trying to get a hold of me.
Coming from a Hero on launch day, I am due for some new hardware. Since I am a Sprint Premier customer, I can certainly live with it for a year (assuming it makes it past the 30 day return period). I still plan to get one on launch day and shortly thereafter, be able to install SU and my rooted apps.

My cousin got a droid 2 and he's rooted via Z4root. There's just not any ROMs or Kernels/Themes you can flash over it.
as long as it has a partial root so I can use wifi tether like the original unrevoked I'll be a happy camper, though I would love a myn rom on my evo 3d if thats not possible I still wanna use my rooted apps!
The price will deter me more than the fact that it's locked up. If it releases at $300 then I'll spend another $100 and get the Asus transformer and keep my Hero for another year.
Honestly... I was a little worried about 3D support with custom ROMs anyway. I'm sure HTC is doing a lot of stuff to get Android and Sense to work with 3D.
I've had some concerns with security on some of the custom ROMs lately anyways, so I will have no problem going back to stock sense. I actually really like sense... it was just too darn slow on the Hero. I'm sure it will be nice and fast on the Evo 3D. I'm still planning on getting it. But, like I said, if they announce a $300 price for it I'll consider cancelling my pre-order and spending another $100 to get a tablet. Smartphones aren't worth $300 when you can get laptops/tablets for $300-400 nowadays.

[Q] Evo 3d? Nexus S? Samsung Epic? or the Motorola Photon?

Just what the title says, opinions? I have had the 3d for the weekend pretty much and it is ok, but some things I am finding out about it are lacking. The 3d camera is nice, but what would I really use it for? To me its almost just a, ' Hey look at my cool camera' type gimmick.
What are some of your guys' thoughts on the Epic/Nexus, or how about the Photon, I think the Photon actually looks pretty cool and I would have my kickstand back.
Thoughts? Please be as detailed as possible, would be appreciated.
Thanks
I can't really give any opinion on the Photon as it's not out yet, but the Evo 3D is well ahead of both the Epic and the Nexus S in terms of hardware. I currently have an Evo 4G and owned an Epic for a while before I got fed up with it and gave it to my wife so I could get my Evo back. I suppose it all depends on what you intend to do with your phone, but the current Samsung offerings aren't in the same league as the Evo 3D. It has a higher res screen, a faster clock speed, twice as many cores, and twice as much RAM.
Between Sprint giving me my original Sprint Premier early upgrade back for the EVO 3D launch, and Target giving me $150 trade it, total out of pocket cost to upgrade was just $68 and adding a year to my contract.
It's also a big plus that HTC will OFFICIALLY be permitting root. I know at least one dev (I forget which it was) has a 3D in hand. So, there ought to be lots of non-Sprint options.
So far my only complaint is that the colors on the screen seem faded. Like a cloudy day. Not the end of the world, but I wouldn't have liked a better/brighter screen. (Not the AMOLED one though, those are too saturated. Like looking inside a fish tank.)
I currently have the epic and evo 3d as my daily phones and i can tell you to avoid the epic like the plague....i have had software problems from phone ramdomly exiting applications to slow laggy perfromance on almost everything except gaming. I have had my epic since release and will never purchase a samsung phone again...their hardware is usually incrementally better than the competition but their software implementation leaves much to be desired, which makes superior hardware null at best. The feel of the evo 3d in hand really makes it feel like you are holding something premium in your hand...im sure the sgs2 will follow the same lead with hardware being better, but i have no faith in their ability to deliver on thevsoftware front........i bet the evo 3d will get ice cream sandwich before the sgs2 at least by 6 months.

I pretty much agree with both of these guys. Consider that the 3d has had 3 OTAs to fix "bugs" and it's only been a week. The hold up for Gingerbread to show up on the Evo 4G was more due to the fact that the Nexus S was the only device allowed to have Gingerbread for a certain period of time as per Google. As soon as that time frame was up, HTC and Motorola both had Gingerbread for their flagship phones... The Epic and some other Galaxy S phones are still waiting.
I think HTC and Motorola are sharing the title of "King of the Hill" when it comes to android phones. I personally like HTC's hardware better. They both have provided similar (i.e. good) support to their user community. Motorola's success I attribute to the "Droid" marketing campaign by Verizon, but they have backed that up with action and performance. Will have to see how the Photon pans out, though.

The phone has only been "officially" out for 4 days, not even a week yet. HTC seems to be working hard to keep the bugs to a minimum (of course opening up the bootloader is another thing entirely).

I tend to agree with everyone here for the most part, although the Photon looks pretty sick imo. I do like HTC better but we are not 100% sure that the 3d will be rooted yet are we? I have seen conflicting results. The specs on the Photon seem a bit better than the 3d in some aspects. As far as the other two go I won't get either of those. It would only be between the Photon and this 3d right now.
On a better note I don't understand why people had to pay for their 3d's, makes me feel good. I didn't pay a dime, just gave them my EVO back and dude gave me the 3d. Even got my girl her first smartphone, the LG optimus, decent unit also for absolutely nothing. Guess it helps when the manager at that store wants to keep your business. Not to mention a free screen protector and case.
Lucky I guess.
Very curious about the Photon. Has intrigued my interest.
Thanks for everyone's input.
So I found out what I'm going to do, and the manager actually suggested I do this. Basically I am going to wait for the release date to be announced as far as the photon goes. Hopefully it is within my 30 day trial for my 3d, if it isn't, on the 28th day of my trial I will be taking my 3d in and getting another 3d therefore resetting my 30 day time period, then once I get the photon if I don't like it I will just switch back to the 3d.
So it's looking like a win win here.
Just posted this so that other people can do it if they so choose.

You can only do the exchange once per ugrade... and you can't do it on the same phone. You can get a replacement if there's a problem, but you can't just exchange for one of the same thing. You can return it, but then if you get another 3D, you won't get another 30 day grace-period.
Either they lied to you to get you to shut up and buy the phone, or that manager is an idiot.

Well when he loses his job, feel free to pay his rent for him. You can return the phone for any reason within 30 days, but you can't just keep exchanging. I'm sure that will throw a flag up in Sprint's database real quick.
If you get away with it, all the more power to you... but if you get stuck with a phone that you don't actually want because you're trying to leapfrog a free ticket and your friend ends up jobless... it's your own fault.

Actually I just got off the phone with Sprint and the process is allowed, to a certain extent. Not sure why your so mad, but to each their own. Why would I pay someone's rent for someone? I'm not mad about anything, just pointing out that doing something sneaky and underhanded like allowing someone to leapfrog their contract and 30 day return is a good way for someone to lose their job.
Apparently you didn't get what I meant by paying his rent... I guess I have to type things very literally so it doesn't go over people's heads. If he loses his job, he won't have any money. If he doesn't have money, he can't pay rent. If he can't pay rent because he lost his job for you... then it goes back to what I said before.
If it were allowed at all, nobody would ever be locked into a contract, because we'd all just keep leapfrogging our phones around every 30 days to something else, or even the same thing.
Anyway, pick which phone you want, it's all up to personal preference. I got my EVO 3D because it's the EVO's big brother (shouldn't say that, someone might not understand...). Alright, it's the EVO's successor, so it was a logical choice for me because of how well my EVO has treated me. Don't let everyone else decide which phone you should get, you're the one that will be using it.

EVO 3D or Samsung Galaxy S 2?

Hey guys,
I'm deciding between the 3VO and the sg2. I've looked up comparisons of the two and it seems that the hardware is better on sg2 and software is better on 3vo. I'm thinking that the 3vo would probably get better devolopment tho.
So convince me why I should get the 3vo, I really don't know! I saw that the sg2 is like $700-$800 no contract in the UK, if true. Ill get the 3vo. Do you guys think it really costs that much?
i made a mistake and bought a samsung phone, that will never happen again. its nice to have working gps on my evo 3d.
Development wise the EVO 3D will be better I'm sure. There's a lot of great developers on this phone right now and will be more coming

That depends on a number of factors, time being the most important. If our mighty developers crack the phone and/or HTC unlocks it in the 30 day return window (starting on the 24th of June) then there is nothing to worry about and I absolutely assure you that the best and most development will be going on here on the E3D scene...
...once we hit that 30 day window the amount of developer interest is going to sink quickly, not to mention the untold thousands of E3D handsets from twitchy users (like myself) who can't stand the thought of having a locked phone or a phone that is unlocked late in the game with a lame-duck dev community.
Samsung has been sending out SGS2's to developers....and it doesn't have an encryption-signed bootloader.
Search for the thread "hey check out how powerful the EVO 3d is" (something like that) and you will see that hardware is not really superior either way. You could argue it either way and still not be correct.
The above, combined with the reputation of both should make HTC an easy choice....at least in my opinion.
Plus you are right, the software and development side of the 3vo should be a lot better.

I was in the same boat as you. I wanted to wait for the S2 to come out and compare but since my phone crapped out, I went with the 3D. Do we have a confirm release date for the S2 on Sprint yet?

If the developers are unable to crack the bootloader and HTC does not release the unlocked bootloader, then there will be almost 0 development on our phone.

No. There hasn't even been an official statement indicating that it is coming to Sprint. Last year I believe the phones arrival to Sprint was announced in mid-late July. Then, in early August the late August release date was announced. Looks like we may be seeing the same trend. Sadly, if the E3D is not unlocked soon, I may be getting an SGS2 as well though vastly prefer HTC's products over Samsung's.
If the SGS2 came out the same time I probably wouldve picked it over the 3d. In almost all reviews I've read that SGS2 is fast and unable to be slowed down. Tegra 2 games also will play once you root it and install chainfire. Look at this lengthy review below and I recommend watching some of the video comparisons with some other phones. If theres no full root on the 3d and as long as there's an official announcement of the SGS2 (regardless if its coming july or august)within 30 days that I've had my 3d then mines probably also going back.

That's just way too easy....
...though if Samsung had anything to do with it it was a brilliant maneuver.
If the phone came out tomorrow I would say the GSII. Development on the 3D is dead in the water & looks to stay that way unless HTC decides to unlock the bootloader & nand. Pound for pound the GSII looks to be the better phone hardwise if your read all of the reviews. But history tells us that Samsung is notorious for not supporting their devices & the dev community seems to like HTC products better but that may change with the 3D/Sensation debacle that is unfolding & Samsung seems to be catching on with support. Hard one to call right now. I'm gonna upgrade my Epic to the GSII or Prime if they come to Sprint but if this bootloader/nand situation doesn't get straightend out before 30 days the 3D is going back & I'll just have the OG Evo & GSII/Prime.

I had Verizon's version of the Galaxy S 1 and it was a huge disappointment. Not because of the hardware... the hardware as awesome which is why I bought it... but because of Samsung bloat, touchwiz and having to wait 6+ months for the 2.2 update to roll out. I wouldn't touch a Galaxy S 2 until Samsung shows they're able to support a phone for more than a month.
(Unless HTC fails to unlock their bootloader, in that case I'd swallow my pride and move to an S2)

I'm with you man... I just took a peek into the GSII forum and, um, yeah, I think my mind is made up. Most of that would be good for us with minimal tweaking I'd imagine...

who cares about mfgr support? If the hardware is good and the is a dev community...well...I'm in. GS2 already has most of CM7 ready....CDMA version would likely require a little tweaking, but, likely not much.

Mfgr support goes a long way, especially when major updates are concerned. Take the Epic for example. Before the official Froyo update we had a few leaks & ROMS built off those leaks but none of them (and I tried them all) came without a major bug or flaw. It's always better to base a ROM off of a official update rather than a leaked one.

There were no pure AOSP offerings? I am obviously not familiar at all with the landscape on the Samsung side of things--I ditched my moment for my EVO4G and haven't looked back....But I'd imagine that as long as they release their kernel source there would be a handful of pure AOSP roms, at the least....I see CM7 is almost together for the GS2, I'd imagine there would be the usual collection of CM based roms at the very least. I also see MIUI is being maintained for the GS2 already...
...just supply the kernel source and update the radios as needed. I'm well familiar with Samsung's desire to never update anything past release.
SGSII is awesome, I watched a hands on video of it last night, made me excited. LOL

I Gotta Say

Hello,
As a former HTC EVO3D Owner from the "First to Buy" opportunity in June before Sprint sold their soul to get the iPhone and before that an EVO 4G, I gotta say I absolutely am blown away by the Photon. I was quite intrigued by it when it was released, but Sprint staggered the release so that it was past 30 Days between when the 2 Phones were released.
I had so many issues with my 3D that I literally had 4 Replacement Handsets sent. I was finally so fed up that I told them either give me a Photon or I am cancelling.
The one thing I did not want to do is give up my last Annual Upgrade which they offered to move up if I paid $55 due to LTE coming and actually having a real chance of Nationwide availability.
Back to the Photon, while it took about 45 minutes to get used to the UI, I am really liking this phone more and more each day. And the Speaker is absurdly better than the one in the 3D. As in I can finally hear Netflix and all the Music on my Phone.
While I hope there is an official ICS Release, there are obviously ways around it. Moreover, with the vastly better Call Quality, Speaker, and just how much better it works in low signal strength areas, I am pretty much positive I will be getting whatever Motorola LTE device that comes out around June. Hopefully, it will be similar to the Razr.
It is weird, I have been with Sprint since 1999 and one of my all time favorite Phones was the StarTac I had around a decade ago. Unfortunately, my ex GF's Dog took it and digged a hole in the Yard. (found years later) Since then, there have been very few Motorola Handsets. I can only hope Sprint maintains at least cordial relations with Moto.
Cheers,
JJ
Welcome dude! You think its fast now, try unlocking and running CM7/CM9(ics) it will blow your mind. I'm pretty sure it's getting an official ICS update but the ics build we have now is phenomenal even at alpha stage.

Welcome! Hang out! I'm rooted, but not unlocked. Funny Kenny, I had my Evo for a year, I got Photon August 2nd 2011. I have used 4G EXACTLY 3 times!!!
Hello,
My most sincerest thanks again for the warm welcome. I have been with Sprint since 1999 and must say this is my favorite Handset by a Country Mile. Next comes Rooting and all that fun stuff.
I also love that when using ADW EX that the Motorola Widgets are available whereas the HTC Sense Widgets are not. And the difference with 4G staying connected is amazing. I was in Tampa/St. Pete today and the Photon never dropped Wimax whereas the 3D constantly did.
Cheers,
J

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about it?
Not to hijack but I'm totally opposite OP. Coming from Evo4g I think the Photon is a POS...I've had 3 replacements (reboot issues) and the 3rd still has trouble...mind you, all my issues are in heavy roam/no signal areas which I believe to be the factor but these probs didn't exist for my evo.
However, I recently flashed jokers cm9/ics and can vouch for Kenny's claims...this rom is sick as hell and so far my phone feels like a new unit. No crashes or issues yet in my roaming state, I can only cross my fingers at this point.
I'll likely jump ship if the Nexus hits anytime soon.
@cclarck, nothing personal, but do you think maybe it's you? you stated you flashed it, maybe your area does not like your radio? You also stated roaming?
Just saying. I have been reading for @ week on the Nexus, not impressed at all. (and if you have problems with Photon, good luck with the Samsung!)
Me specifically? No I don't believe so...now my photon in relation to my area...yes most likely. As you can see I'm a lurker but I have quite a bit of experience trying new roms/kernels on all my phones but the Photon has been nothing but frustrations to this point. That being said, it's not like there was a disclaimer on the Photon when I upgraded saying that it's radio would be complete sh!t compared to my evo while roaming, all while causing shutdowns requiring a battery pull/plugin.
I'd like to reinforce that cm9/ics so far is phenomenal, but 2 days soak is hardly extensive testing yet...
edit: Oh and I am certainly very scared to go to a Sammy, I think their build quality is the worst and I hate the plastic feel. My main reason for jumping aside from my photon history is wanting that huge screen; and I like the nex over the touch. Sprint needs more phones =(
If you want a huge screen skip the galaxy nexus and wait for the galaxy note. Sprint's definitely getting and that screen is even bigger. If you don't know what the galaxy note is check this out....

Yeah I don't like sammy either but this phone looks cool. I'm not going to get it as my contract expires this Feb. I may move my 2 lines somewhere else don't know yet. Sprints future looks promising with lte and all the hot devices launching but I simply can't wait till 2013 lol. I want to go back to gsm so I can swap sim cards as I please lol. God I hate cdma! I'm thinking att, definitely not t-mobile I worked there previously for almost 4 years. (I hate those bastards)
I've had att and never ever again, I've been through every carrier and they were the most frustrating with dropped calls and such. Unfortunately, my area is predominately Verizon but I missed the grandfathered data so no thanks to that too.
I dunno, every phone has it's fan base that disses on other brands and what-not so I get it. I haven't had Sammy experience since the Incredibad so maybe their build quality is better than I give credit...I def see a love/hate for every brand though, not just sammy.
I was in love with my photon when I first had it, even ignoring all the launch issues and replacements but it all eventually wore me down to never wanting a moto again =(

Perhaps you may want to look into this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211157
It's a bit of a pain to set up at first but once you do it's worth it. My calls drop all the time in my apartment with Sprint, but not at all using a Verizon PRL.
There's a danger of roaming too much and getting noticed by Sprint, but for most people it seems to take 3+ months for Sprint to notice, and even then you'll more than likely receive a warning letter first.
I've been using this over over 6 months and I've gotten 1 warning letter but when I inquired about it with a Sprint chat rep, he said I was not in danger of being cut.
So YMVM, but it'd help at least short-term.
Hello,
For some reason, I cannot stand Samsung. This extends to their TV's and other Home Theater Components. I am a Moderator on a Moderator on a AV Forum with close to 100,000 Members and find it hard to recommend them.
For whatever reason, I lump them in with Hyundai (I must say they have made huge strides over the past years since the $3,999 Hyundai Excel) Regardless, I tend to prefer the Japanese and American Companies. I know everything is manufactured in China or Malaysia.
Cheers,
JJ
I am ALSO Rooted but NOT Unlocked. My area is Saturated with 4G and I use it ALOT. I have Unlimited Mobile Hotspot (GrandFathered in since I have been a customer since 1997) and use it on my Samsung Galaxy Player5.0 and HTC EVO View 4G (while out and about). I only use WiFi on the HTC EVO View (Did Not want ANOTHER Data Contract) and just Tether to my Photon.

Anyone else thinking of switchin phones becuz of slow updates?

So been honestly thinking if JB takes til next yr which is pretty much when the new HTC will come out to get to the EVO this will be my last HTC device, I really love HTC and have been with them since the touch pro. Howeva the build quality has seemed to go up immensely. And yet the software quality has dropped. I can honestly say that I have had progressively more n more trouble out of the phones from the OG EVO up. Not to mention how we have to wait so long to get a update. Especially when that update was known and out on a few devices b4 our were released, then they can't tell us if or when we will get it. I mean really even phones released after ours have been verified to be getting it and yet we wait. I'm sry but I have bought my phones off contract and if I'm spending $850 plus for a device I don't want it to be obsolete the day I get it. Some people will argue that ics is not obsolete. But look how long its been out. And key lime pie is Otw. So we are almost 2 os's behind. And they get to select who gets upgrades and when? Didn't I pay them? If HTC don't pick it up I'm afraid my next phone will be the galaxy s4 anyone else feel this way or not chime in I wanna hear thoughts on this situation!

I'm honestly not sure this has much to do with HTC. They intend on getting other One X variants JB at some time this month, which could be a positive sign for the EVO LTE, but it all lies in Sprint's hands, ultimately. That's who you should be pointing your finger at.
I agree totally. With HTC's recent earnings miss, I don't see why they can't see their current "support model" isn't working. If it weren't for the dev's here, I'd be even more pissed. HTC needs to embrace the developers as opposed to working against them by not actively releasing updates for a product that they sold me on. I've stuck with HTC devices since my old HTC Mogul but I'm starting to feel the same way. HTC needs to get their **** together or they'll lose a community of people that have helped keep them relevant over the past 5-7 years.

Everyone says sprint sprint sprint but is it not the manufacturer's that say what device they wanna tweak the os for? Besides if it was sprint that was delaying it why would the s3 already be confirmed to be getting the jelly bean update? HTC says they don't know if they will be updating it. And Idt sprint would hurt their own pockets like that. 2 have 2 flagship phones on the latest os faster and far less problems they would/should be jizzin in their pants for that chance.

Sprint can't work on getting updates out if HTC hasn't given them anything to work with. I point my finger at both of them. A phone that's behind in updates on a network that's behind can destroy what little patience people have left.

U hit the nail on the head! Totally agree 1000%
I payed more for my phone than I did my laptop or tablet. Yet they get updates damn near everyday. And if android is open source I should be ableto get the updates on anyphone that runs Android as long as the specs are up to par for free correct. Just like linux. So y do they get to choose what we get so they can make money. I mean we do it here. So y can't they. Lol sry just rantin clearin my chest.
Me and the wife love HTC but we both agreed that even though we dislike the build quality of Samsung it may be our next phone just because things get updated and fixed a lot more frequently. Besides our phones stay deep inside great looking cases so how much does build quality mean to us anyway.

The update comes from HTC pending a request from Sprint. If Sprint doesn't request it, it will never come. Once Sprint receives it, they add all of their bloat and send it for testing. After that, you already know what happens.
Either way, I am hoping for an HTC Nexus device based on all these multi-OEM Nexus rumors.

Point taken. Bottom line is that "we" the customer, gets screwed. I would find it hard to believe that HTC and Sprint both "don't know" what people want. HTC makes great phones and the developers help us love them. Developers maximize the potential of our devices but if they're not getting what they need, it's a moot point and I'll probably leave Sprint and HTC altogether when I'm due for an upgrade. I'm sure I'm not the only one either. Patience only goes so far.
Not to mention still can't have caller id tones since last update n they can't fix that. Bs and I don't wanna switch roms cuz something always never works in roms.
have to admit if it wasn't for custom roms and the hard work of devs here I would have tossed this phone by now.

Having been an android owner for the last three years (and an evo owner for the last 2), I've gotten used to the slower updates. It's always been explained away by saying that first HTC has to produce an update, then Sprint has to tweak the update, before we ever get the OTA. I know it's not a solution to the problem presented in the OP, but has anyone noticed that we have fantastic devs for this phone? The roms, kernels, and tweaks are not only being produced on a daily basis, but are frequently updated and provided with fantastic support. I can live with slow manufacture and provider updates as long we continue to have great devs.
Yes, but in a different way. I will not be purchasing another HTC product ever due to their slow update roll outs as well as their locking of the boot loaders. While they finally relented and let people unlock their bootloaders through their website, their previous and current stance on the issue is unacceptable to me.
You got robbed if you paid $850 for the phone, lol.
Everyone always thinks the grass is greener someplace else. If you're not happy with sprint then go somewhere else.
But just know that the verizon Gnex, a Google phone, didn't get the JB update for 2 months after it was released on GSM phones.
Also I don't think KLP has been released yet.

this phone will probably be the last HTC phone I purchase... unless they change their policy on source and start to release it to dev's faster... it seems like there is a lot more activity for the S3....
If I get another HTC device it will be a nexus. If they dont make a nexus device im not getting it. I love htc build quality, it feels like a real device in my hand, but the lack of updates really turns me off.
Sorry to hear you paid $850 for this mech.. got mine free without upgrading because the 3ds were on backorder when mine broke... and i got that free also...
