adding contacts option (phone/google) - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, i have been rummaging through threads for help but didn't seem to find it. so here it is.
I am running Bionix V and whenever i add a new contact, i dont get the option to choose between 'phone' contacts or my 'google' account contacts. it saves to the phone automatically. I was wondering if there is a way to change this? because i would like to continuously sync any new contacts i have to my google account. rather than to the phone. thanks in advance!

i think what you do is go to settings-->applications--> manage applications-->---->all----->contacts then your clear defaults
thanks button if ihelped

hmm dang. nope. the 'clear defaults' button isnt even illuminated

In contacts, hit the menu button > more > Settings > Save new contacts to > Always ask. Good luck!
*EDIT*
Honestly you should probably set it to your gmail so all new contacts automatically save there. Butt to each his/her own.

Disappearing Contact List

Hey all,
A couple of days ago my contact list completely vanished. I tried to add a couple names back and they didn't even show up. I am running 2.1-update1 with multi-touch, build 2.1.A.0.435. When I go to export the contacts via e-mail, my entire list is there for export which makes no sense as to why it doesn't show on my regular contact list under phonebook. I was thinking about resetting to factory and reloading the .vcf file I sent via email or reflash and resync my contacts which is what I really don't want to have to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I make a bad move.
Thanks.
Try syncing with Google. Then if they disappear, you can just sync again and you will have them back.
Tried that. Didn't work.
It almost sounds like you cut them instead of copying them. Have you searched the forum with the search tool at the top?
Yeah, not much was kicked back.
Have you tried this:
1. Go to Phonebook > Contacts.
2. Press the "Groups" button in the upper-left corner.
3. Make sure "Online contacts" is unchecked.
4. Under "Phone contact" and "Google", make sure you have the correct groups checked.
YAAAAAYYYYY!!! You're my savior!

[Q] Gmail Settings if you have trouble with auto sync read last post

Ok, I did do a search here and I could not find an answer on this forumn.
For all Gmail users...can you share your settings. My Gmail does not seem to sync automatically or if it does it must be just everyonce in awhile cause I am going in and having to do a manual refresh to download my messages.
Photon rooted
I am running juice defender but I don't see anything in my settings there that should effect sync.
How often is your Gmail syncing and how are you adjusting it?
Thanks in advance for your help. BTW- i searched google and several places talk about setting-auto sync...but we don't have that on the Photon.
My email is pushed immediately. Try going into settings > applications > manage applications > gmail and clear data. Restart and send yourself a test email. If that doesn't fix it I'll be surprised. But then Sprint might be having problems in your area.

Ok,I did that and sent mysefl an email. I will see how long it takes to get to my phone. It's already on gmail on my desktop computer.
My other email account seems to push right away.
The odd thing is the email shows up right away in my "all mail" folder but not in my "inbox" folder.
Ok, just in case anyone else has this problem I found the issue and fix on another motorola forum. Go to your widgets and install the power tool. Than press the sync button which is the fourth one from left to right. That will enable auto syncing.
Now if you go to settings-account-google...you will now see all the google applicatons such as books, calendar and email with a checkmark next to them. These check marks were missing from my phone and I had to use the powerwidget to put them back in there. Now I can check them on and off at will.
Only took me two days to find this out.

How can I only show contacts from Google?

On my Galaxy S I had it set up so my contacts would only display my Gmail contacts. On the Galaxy SIII every time I go into my contacts I have to select the option to show contacts from Gmail.
How can I make this permanent???
Pretty sure it's in the same section. Rather than just selecting google contacts, go down to were it says customize, and set them there.

Sorry, didn't realise I was talking to myself (just having a dig) I've turned my phone on and am now looking at it and will detail where to go.
Press menu
select Contacts to Display
select Customized List
Then go through each account option and either tick, or untick the ones you want. For me, when I do this it stays on each reboot, boot up, what ever.
In this section I have 4 google accounts showing on my phone, a facebook, a samsung, the sim, and the phone account. But I keep all the contacts I want in one of the google accounts so that is the only one I have set to display. And while I don't use any other accounts, there are some provider numbers in the sim account, and obviously facebook ones. But none of them ever show when I set this.
Hope that helps this time.

galaxy s3 contact list

Okay well the contact list on the galaxy s3 is pretty annoying , all my contacts are sync with facebook and google. How can i just see my contacts on my sim and nobody else.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
menu -> contacts to display -> custom -> tick whatever you want.
Go to your contacts. Hit your menu button. Then contacts to display. Should be good from here.

by doing that, you will only not display the contacts, but they will show up anyways when you do a search within contacts,
is there a way to not sync "other contacts" group in ICS?
setting doesn't stick
contacts to display resets when you exit and go back in. is there any way to make that setting stick?
thanks

Show phonenumber contacts only???

Hi. Checked through the forum. But after syncing facebook and other accounts it shows alllll my contacts.
So also the people I don't have the phone number off.
In the SGS2 I had the option to show only the contacts that I have the phone number of. But can't seem to find it in the SGS3 .
Probably I'm overlooking something but some help would be great.
Just go to settings in the contact apps
It should be the first on top
in the menu option I have
delete
import/export
mergen with samsung
merge with google
accounts
speed dial setting
send email
send message
nothing more :-(
scroll this menu and you will have more...
OMG ....lollllll thanks man. I might have to delete this thread out of huge shame ))) Thanks man
