I saw that Cyanogenmod released their newest version with 7.1RC1 and I saw that it includes Android 2.3.4. I am currently running 7.0.3 stable and there is no video chat with the default Google Talk. Does anyone know that if you use the new 7.1 RC1 if Google Talk will support video chat?
Thanks,
ElBow!
Can anyone who has CM7.1 RC1 test this out for me quickly please? Also can anyone confirm Netflix's status in 7.1RC1?
Regarding Netflix, I moved to 7.1RC1 and it works. It first had the chipmunk effect, so I had to tweak the build.prop file to have the following two lines:
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
And everything worked.
Also remember to use LCD Density Changer to change the density from 161 to 140. This allows you to pick particular episodes in Netflix, but remember that 140 seems to give Market fits when you do a "My Apps" query.
Regarding Google Talk Video, unfortunately, the the latest universal Gapps does not support it. You will have to do some tinkering to get it on there. I actually found this thread Googling the topic myself. Sorry! Hope that helps!
Actually, at the moment, there is no way to get the Google Talk Video to work on the GTablet... not unless Google releases a new "universal" GTalk with Video.
The new GTalk with Video uses a pre-built library for video which has only been compiled for devices with ARMv7+NEON processors (i.e., ARMv7 instruction set with NEON optimisations).
The NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor in the GTablet is an ARMv7 processor but lacks NEON optimisations. It only supports some VPF optimisations. So, the lack of the NEON optimisations renders this "video library" of the new GTalk useless for the GTablet. It will cause stagefright (the Android media framework) to fail and force close since the system cannot understand the NEON instructions.
Even the Skype video feature will not work since the Skype video library is also NEON optimised.

This is (was) a request for some feedback/review of the CM7 Tablet Tweaks rom for Harmony/Gtablet. Also which files do I install and whats the entire process that was taken to get the market working and which Gapps link did you use? I've installed a few roms so far but reading some of the CM7 forum post i've been hesitant to install CM7 due to some of the old bugs I read about.
I read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1028088
but I believe there have been updates to the rom files and not sure which ones to install.
What does or doesn't work with this CM7 Rom? I know video acceleration isn't working but can you still play 720p video through software video players?
What are benchmark scores?
What bugs have been found?
Is it stable? ie. random reboots?random freezes?
EDIT:
So 71 views and I just decided to take the dive into cynogenmod... Totally easy install.
I don't know why I was scared.
Just installed CM7 nightlies 41 check cyanogenmod website for link Look for HARMONY nightlies
with Tablet Tweaks theme apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041588
Installed also Pershoots latest GB kernel 1400mhz
Brief install instructions-
1. Flash nightlies 41 zip via CWM
2. Flash GAPPS.zip
3. Flash Pershoot Kernel for Gingerbread.
Reboot and should boot quick.
All benchmarks run at 1400mhz max
SmartBench - 4564
Quadrant - 2225
Linpack - 51.463 mflops
Will post video showing actual Video playback and Game playability. Feels silky smooth so far guys.
I'm liking the Honeycomb theme which looks amazing.
Thanks Cyanogenmod team for such an amazing ROM.
Not working-
Video recording
HD video playback not working- fix is to use different players, sometimes this fixes the issues
Sound Playback - have to plug/unplug headphones in order to make speakers play sound
Camera takes pixelated pictures
Some games not working - Minigore (Must have)
Touch screen is jittery when playing games involving 2 virtual joysticks
Some apps just don't work with the Rom, IE.. Quickoffice
[UPDATE]
I was going to do a short video but no longer have my camera (long story)
Last minute thoughts before wiping
- without video acceleration it makes the G Tablet for me unusable, I love the HONEYCOMB theme, seriously it looks awesome but all that good paint on the outside without allowing me to use the video capabilities to their max/video performance is a deal breaker now for me. I will be back to CM7 once the video issues are fixed.
*Goodbye Honeycomb Paint Job*
I was reading the latest changelog for cm7 because the nightly went from 42 to 54 and found this! Is this hw video decoding??

Not sure how that relates to the latest nightly though.
It can be just one change from many step required to make this work.

All I know is that vids that didnt play before are playing now. A whole lot smoother too.

Can you take screenshots with this build? Either via ddms on the desktop, or screenshot ER?
Because not being able to take screenshots (as of the previous nightly) is what drove me to Vegantab (which I like, but I could go back )

How's youtube? Can it play HQ vids now?
I can confirm video playback from YouTube without stuttering. I played HD video from both the website (Dolphin and Stock Browser) and the YouTube App. I played the VEVO version of a few songs, and they all played flawlessly.
I am running Pershoot's Overclock Kernel, but all seems fine.
Here is a video link for documentation:

This is indeed an incredible development! I can't wait for it to be refined and eventually baked into all the gingerbread roms. I know there are many of us holding off on jumping from froyo until hardware acceleration is enabled.
How about hardware decoding of local AVI's and wmv's? any tests?
thanks in advance.

no dice yet.
Observed speedups might be due to changes in the streaming libraries or flash handling or something.
Setting up hardware acceleration on video players (moboplayer and rockplayer) still fails.
Also graphics related benchmarks results didn't improve from the earlier rest of the CM7 releases.
video is better here... vplayer wouldnt play vids before, now after this update it plays all my movies perfectly!! i know for a fact they wouldnt play before the update, it was just freezing my gtab yesterday!
I just tried to move from Clem+Calkulin1.5 to the CM7 55 - Videos which works fine on Calkulin (h264 main @3.1 1024x600) plays much slower and sometimes hw decoder dies.
Well, from my personal experience.. this enables HW decoding got the default Android supported video formats... so no HD... only MP4...

My thoughts exactly.
I threw on a Gingerbread rom just after I got my Gtab.
Then I tried a Froyo ROM just for the heck of it.
Until Nvidia drivers are a part of GB, I'll be sticking with Froyo.

+1
but in all honesty, CM 7.0.2 is MUCH better than the nightlies 54 and below. Its actually usable now. Coming from Vegan 5.1.1, I dont feel compelled to go back to froyo after flashing CM7 now. With pershoots OC kernel, this will definitely be my daily driver moving forward, and its only going to be get better over time! All of the tegra games run butter smooth, HQ (720p) flash works fine, and .3GP works with much more to follow.
How are videoconferencing apps? Camera and video? tempted t flash back to cm7 from vegan 5.1. 1. I love the cm7 honeycomb theme.

As I go through yet another build.prop market fix, I can't help but wonder: is there a build.prop market fix (or any kind of fix) that gives you the best of both worlds (all 2.x and 3.x apps are visible in the market, working Flash Player, runs 3.x apps and maybe even Netflix)? If not, anything close to it (I can live without running 3.x apps)?
P.S. - If possible, I prefer to stick with Froyo/2.2 since the display quality and video playback & hardware acceleration performance has been superior to 2.3.x and 3.x ROMs in my experiences so far.
HTC Vision gets Netflix good for GB. I also don't notice anything missing from the market. Guess you could use vegan 5.1.1 and throw in the Netflix patch and then mod build.prop and see what happens. Breaks YouTube app by the by but browser viewing still works peachy.
You can't run 3.0 (Honeycomb) code on 2.3 (Gingerbread) or 2.2 (Froyo).
No build.prop will ever give you that.
The build.prop is the properties of your build....ie what OS, manufacturer, some basic settings and such. Edits of it may allow you to see certain things in the Market but seeing them doesn't mean they will install or run.
If you want Netflix (and now Hulu Plus), CM7.03 stable is your best option. It also sees nearly everything that will function on the tablet in the Market.
I miss nothing from VEGAn5.1.1 now that I'm on CM7.03. I've gained a ton (better stability, WiFi location services, better market (no fixes needed) access, Netflix, etc...
I keep hearing CM 7.0.3 is the best option. It still doesn't have native Nvidia drivers, correct?

That's correct, but they did add in some hardware acceleration code of their own to improve video playback. It's not perfect, but most videos seem to work pretty well for me.

Worked like a charm... except [modded/patched] Netflix doesn't play video for me (it looks like its going to play, shows play/pause and seek control but goes back to the main screen almost immediately). No biggie, I rarely watch Netflix anyway.
I see everything in the market and all the T/HD games actually run. Thanks!
You can clear app data for netflix from manage apps then fix permissions with cwm. This fixes a lot of Netflix issues (chipmunk, slo-mo, bad banding)

Did you just change the device to HTC Vision? Or did you copy a complete build.prop from somewhere? Link?
Thank you!
I just changed it to HTC Vision in build.prop. Netflix also works now (from the Market).
I am trying to skype or video chat some way with my g tab but can't seem to get it to work, I can see video from the other person but my video box is black in skype.
any tips? I am not a wiz at this so hopefully there is a manageable solution

I ran into the same problem. Here is what I did to get Skype to work.
Background - G-Tablet running Android 2.3.7 (Kernel cyanogenmod 2.6.32.48)
Removed Skype that I downloaded from the Play Store
Install version 16 from here (Great job on this version by the way)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148708
Go to menu-advanced settings and check the following:
Force-enable video-calling Enable video-calling on your device! - check
Force camera rotation Should enable camera rotation functionality! - check
Avoid setFPS Black video? Bive this a try.. - check
If you find that you now have video, but the rotation is off, go to the regular settings of the table and make sure all of the degrees of rotation are checked.
Good Luck
idk if those custom roms can do that, i m running stock rom, and i can do video calls, by skype with no problem.
Hi All,
I've been trying to figure out how to get my CM7 NT to stream Netflix in the HD quality of the stock Nook ROM.
I've tried several edits to the build.prop (ro.product.____ and ro.build.___), to no avail.
Are there any specific lines in the current CM7 Internal build.prop that prevent Netflix from streaming in HD, like how the NT comes originally? Or is it some other issue with the CM7 build? Has anybody on CM7 gotten this to work?
Many thanks in advance.
Unless there's been a development I'm not aware of as of right now, you can't, it has to do with the fact that hardware acceleration isn't fully supported in non Stock ROMs. In addition the stock app is believed to be coded differently for the hardware.

I wish that part about the stock app was true, but the stock app works identically to the version that you get in the Google Play store. Reinstalling the stock version on CM7 via Titanium Backup gets you the same low-quality video and delayed audio that you'd get on the downloaded app.
But hardware acceleration will be here, it's just taking a little while. We're very fortunate to have Rebellos, a recognized XDA developer, joining the new-kernel project. He says he plans to start contributing to the project in about a week.

Ah, so it's a hardware acceleration issue then, rather than Netflix<-> build.prop device incompatibility? I thought that was done and fixed in the latest CM7 release?
Also stoked to have Rebellos on board.
i thought cm7 had full HW acceleration- and from using it vs using the rooted nook tablet it DOES play movies Better (i can play/stream a bluray.mp4 file on CM7 Fine, it stutters and hangs using the rooted nook(mx video player streaming over my wireless network for both examples) , it is CM9 that is having problem with the ducati timer conflict with backlight timer....the issue is the hd version of netflix if i remember correctly required the locked bootchain blah blah to get the hd version. not sure if that version will run on cm7 i just installed netflix from googlestore and use that.

If that were true, I think we'd already have hardware acceleration in CM9. After all, it would mean that source code for a hardware-accelerated graphics driver on the Nook Tablet was available. The whole reason Rebellos is joining the project is because we lack said source code.
Celtic did fix a video performance bug in CM7, but as far as I know it was mainly related to video playback and decoding, not graphics drivers. I might be wrong about that (I'm not a developer myself, I just follow it closely) but that's what the situation looks like right now.
Like I said, there's no difference between the Google Play downloadable Netflix app and the one that comes with your Nook Tablet. The key difference is the underlying firmware - stock, for some reason, gets HD-quality and synced up sound while CM7 gets low-quality and delayed sound. I've been following this one issue closely since it's my one pet peeve with the custom firmware we've got available. Hopefully, though, the devs will sort it out. They all seem like competent and talented folks.
the problem is 99.9% of the universe apparently for cm9(ICS) uses gptimer 11 for ducati...and the backlight some other timer
the nook tablet -currently- HAS to run the backlight on.....gptimer 11, the devs- i believe- have found a ducati on a different timer and they are working on adapting it to run on the nook tablet, once that is fixed- the cm9 devs will progress faster
