I don't have any ideas to contribute, but I am subscribing to this thread because I have been looking for something similar since I got my Evo 4G, now seems like an even better idea with the 3D
im gonna go to home depot tomorrow and see if I can make something out of some PVC piping. Ill keep you posted.
I did this and it looked getto but you couldnt tell because my bike was black (yamaha R1 raven style 06 too so it was the good looking headlights also had the laser extreme exhaust system with 4 exhaust tips). I put cloth around the phone and then used black tape around the cloth to keep it tight, then taped the phone where I wanted it. The more tape the better really. The cloth is so the tape isn't leaving the glue on the phone. If you have the otter box case with the holster you can use that to make it look a lot cleaner. You can also use wood to make a holster for it and attach that to your bike. It all depends on your bike and where you want it. Tape is just quick and easy and it works. I went 180+ with my camera on there. (If you never gone that fast it is very.....heart pumping)

[an idea]
Go to RAM mounts and either choose a mirror or handlebar mount. Next pick the RAM arm length you require. Now buy a otterbox defender case cut the mounting tab on the holster's backside for the beltclip flush and cut out the area that corresponds to the 2 cameras position on the holster. [Suggestion]: Use a dremel tool's large cut-off wheel to cut the tab flush and use a large drill bit (maybe 3/8" ) to drill two holes for the cameras). For the last step simply glue a RAM diamond shape plate on the back of the holster below the camera cut-out (be sure to clamp the diamond mount for 24 hours).
RAM mounts absorb vibration and are very durable. You can also easily remove it down to the arm hardware leaving only the mirror or handlebar mount intact on your bike. Your only weak point is the glue at the diamond mount and holster. (maybe use gorrilla glue). You can also easily remove the phone in it's case to take with you without disturbing the mount.
I would also try to run a thin leash from the phone's case to RAM hardware that mounts to your bike. Just in case the glue point separates - your phone will dangle safely until you can stop and stow it. I would also just use the 1" RAM ball hardware, avoid the smaller plastic RAM hardware ( I almost typed "avoid the smaller RAM balls" -- LOL )

Thanks for Manuel Garcia from Piel Frama...
After waiting for almost a week. At last.......
Nice PIEL FRAMA box, as usual. Love it..........You can see the quality...
Inside it .....hehe.........
The pouch.....u can feel the high quality of leather......
Rear view on the Pouch..
The keyboard is cover/protect nicely by the ABS....
As you can see. The pouch only cover the RELEASE BUTTON for the battery cover.
Infra Red - No problem.
Sync - No Prob.......
There is no problem for you to take out your memory card...
Wheel, Ok Button, Voice Command Button....nicely....show up......
No problem at all.......hehe..
On the other side....all the button are shown nicely.....
upgrade
I am just about to look into this - I have a pielframa one for my MDAIII but now need to upgrade. Can it be used easily whilst in the case - including getting the keyboard in and out etc?
Ya, you can clip on your belt....and the keyboard can come in & out...easily... no worry....
Same as my XDA2s...
daft question

With my MDAIII piel frama case (same type) I ended up trimming the plasticy keyboard cover to stop it getting caught and getting frayed and torn. Does this one look like the same will be needed or is it a better fit.
well....i think this one..worse then XDA2s........
That's the draw back point....
One thing I don't like about it is that the plastic seems not attached very well on the right side...and the reset button is not accessible.
Also, why is there an opening to the left of the camera?
> Also, why is there an opening to the left of the camera?
Speaker is there.
Yep, have this case too and agree with all comments and especially pain that the reset button is covered - they really didn't need a cut out over the IR port as noone uses it thesedays anyway...
The case is *almost* very good but I think the leather needs to go a touch further round at top and bottom i.e. towards the USB/charger port, and so pull the plastic foil tighter across the keyboard - mine's seems more loose than day 1...
Still a very impressive case but not 100% sorted (yet). Which reminds me; the cut out for the scroll wheel is a bit off on mine (should be 2-3mm lower down)...
Speaker? On the *rear* of the PDA?
same goes to me...the wheel hole..shd 2 to 3mm lower......
I also think that the cut out for the scroll wheel should be 1 - 2mm lower. But i notice that the plastic foil will get loose if the PDA is heated. If I remove the case and let it cool down, the plastic foil will get tighten again.
How convenient it is to use the device in this case as a phone?
Not that good when used as a phone as you have to bend the case so the front doesn't flap into ur face.
And just the w/e the plastic belt holder fell apart as I was getting into a car.
It looks like this is no-go for me.
To further comment, the micro SD Slot of the PF case actually touches the screen of your pda thus causing it to be turned on for the entire should you not turn it off via power button.
Hey guys - does anyone know of any after-market battery covers for the HD that would be metal - specifically for the purpose of attaching to a magnet? I purchased one of those magnetic "cradle" kits that is basically just a big magnet you stick onto whereever, with a little metal slab that you stick onto the back of your phone. Then - you can just stick the phone up close to the magnet and it sticks - a perfect low-profile car cradle. The metal slab that sticks to the back of the phone is thin - it doesn't really stick out any further than the camera housing - but it still isn't as sleek as just the phone by itself. I thought a replacement battery cover that sticks to the magnet would be perfect. So... does anyone know of any? Or perhaps a vendor that could custom-machine one?

I made my own magnetic car holder solution. Didn't cost much and can't imagine it work better than this...
I can't see what you've done there... It looks like some sort of metal on the battery itself, so that the regular cover works fine... What is that? How is it affixed?
Jouh has placed 2 razor blades on the battery.
Cool! I'm going to try that...
just don't take ur phone to the airport...... they might think ur going to use the razorblades for other non magnetic purposes.
Ohh! Good point! I would have completely forgotten about them and then been really screwed - I actually have to run my mobile through an X-ray every day at work... That could be an issue. Oh well - back to the drawing board...
just do the same with any thin metal i.e. sheet steel.

I really wouldn't recommend directly attaching the phone to strong magnetic sources. It may impede the functionality, reduce or affect the battery operation, interfere with the many antennas in the phone, not to mention run the risk of corrupting memory sticks etc?
The phone itself isnt that heavy so probably wouldnt need a strong magnet, but you'd want to use something quite strong just to hold it in place. Imagine driving over a speed bump or pot hole which dislodges the phone and makes it go sliding across your dash board and out of an open window. (worst case scenario..)
If youre looking for a quick release holder I would recommend something that you clip the phone into like those hip holsters and then find one that has a socket connection to a window mount.

I used the same razors and the same magnet (This one) with my SE P1i for 1½ year without any issues.
And the phone doesn't move 1 mm even driving over the biggest speed bump in Sweden.

I honestly couldn't think of one thing that a magnet could have an effect on in the phone, certainly not the memory. The only type of memory that is affected by magnets are HDD (because the data on the disks is stored magnetically) and credit cards (once again, data stored magnetically). However, RAM/ROM is completely different and relies on gates and latches to store data, neither affected by magnet. Not to mention even if it did have an HDD (like old school mp3 players/iPod) it would take a strong magnet (mainly electromagnet) to corrupt the memory. Likewise, I can't foresee it having any affect on the battery or interfering with the antenas (unless you're using some super strong magnet....which you're likely not)
One of the only build quality problems i have with the Touch HD is that the battery cover creaks when pressed in certain spots.
To revive this topic, does anybody know of an actual aftermarket battery cover for this phone, preferably metal?
I searched google to find no results. It seems like it would be a good idea to make these
You can also shave the inside of the battery cover with a small sander. Than add ANY kind of magnet that will than fit inside the cover. The plastic cover is THICK so you can shave enough for some type of magnet.
I would also like a metal/rubber etc back cover. The quality of the orginal cover is driving me nuts..
Has anyone found this kinda aftermarket item?

Any news on that topic?
Hi All
When I looked around for a bike and car mount for my Touch HD I wasn't very happy with what was available.
Specifically I wanted a 'protective' mount that would keep the phone dry and dirt/mud free, I also wanted to be able to leave the phone in the unit and step away without someone being able to grab the phone easily (I realise if someone wants to steal it they'll do it, however I want to at least slow them down if they try).
After searching I found the Ram Mount AQ3. It seemed perfect as it had a clear cover and was lockable, however it was 2mm too narrow to fit the phone.
Dremel time.
http://www.ram-mount-uk.com/ram-hol-aq3.htm
To achieve the following you need about an hour of time, a Dremel with standard fittings, a steady hand and a bit of concentration. If you've not used a dremel on plastic before I'd suggest practising on other tough plastic to get an idea of how the dremel reacts before going to work on your RAM Mount.
Please follow all the standard safety precautions using your Dremel, it's not my fault if you cut off your finger or an exploding bit blinds you.
The plan was to increase the internal width of the mount by about 1mm on each side and to have a cutaway that would allow a mini usb connector to fit the phone while it is in the mount.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Do NOT use the Dremel on a high speed setting, this generates heat and causes melting rather then the grinding you need. I used my Dremel on the lowest speed setting and constantly moved the area being worked on, after about 2-3 minutes on a 'side' I'd change to the other side to ensure the plastic didn't get heat buildup that would cause melting.
I decided to use a Dremel grinding tip to achieve my objective, specifically...
http://www.dremel.com/en-us/AttachmentsAndAccessories/Pages/AttachmentsDetail.aspx?pid=932
Make sure the Ram Mount is securely positioned and that you have good access to allow you to work across both the internal sides you want to grind. TAKE YOUR TIME.
You want the whole side of the Dremel bit to be in contact with the plastic, try to avoid angling the bit as you'll find that either just the top edge or bottom edge of the bit will be grinding the plastic.
Working in a smooth consistent way start to grind the internal area of the mount on one side, work gently from side to side on the area and do not stay on one part too long, heat buildup and melting happen surprising quickly and plastic will not grind if it's melting. Do not press down on the plastic too hard, let the bit do the work for you.
After working both sides say 5 times get a vacuum cleaner and remove all the ground residue that is in the area, use your finger to rub the internal areas to remove any small particles and vacuum thoroughly again.
Install the two thin padding sheets supplied with the mount and then install the phone.
Test to see if your phone now fits flush, if not try to identify the areas where you need extra grinding and rework them, try to ensure you remove equal amounts from both sides of the Mount. Always vacuum before trying to mount the phone, the dust grinding produces is extremely small and could get inside your phone if you're not careful.
When you're satisfied with the flush fit you then have to remove some extra plastic from the area near the volume buttons, with the phone fitted visually identify the top and bottom position where the buttons sit and spend maybe 2 minutes further grinding that area. Vacuum and install the phone to ensure the buttons are not pressed when the phone is fitted, repeat till you're happy.
You should now be able to mount your phone, fit the clear plastic cover and close and lock the lid, this should all be possible without the volume buttons reacting inside the case.
If you've got here well done, the next step is fairly straightforward.
With the phone fitted identify where the mini usb connector is on the phone, mark or score the plastic at both ends of the connector, remove the phone from the mount.
Using the following cut off wheel cut into the mount at the previous two marks.
http://www.dremel.com/en-us/AttachmentsAndAccessories/Pages/AttachmentsDetail.aspx?pid=409
Again be careful using the cutting tool, the plastic will heat up and melt quite quickly.
Once you've cut down into the plastic on both the marks then cut at a 45 degree angle into the plastic that's going to be removed, you want to cut a V shape within the marks. Using the cutting tool keep working to remove blocks of plastic within the marks until you can mount your phone and connect a mini usb connector.
That's it, you should now have a secure lockable box that your Touch HD fits in perfectly.
Good Luck
Sorry about the photo quality, my flash camera is elsewhere at the moment.....If people are interested I'll take detailed photo's next week.

Here is my attempt at building the car mount. Total cost was $7bucks lol
Materials used. Sheet metal strips. soft padding, old gps mount and some epoxy for the joint.
I only need to build a secondary arm for the mount so it absorbs some of the bumps when driving . So far so good.
Looks pretty good. Is the suction cup strong enough to hold it up?
yes it is, but its way too bouncy, so i will add a second support arm that will support it from the dash.
Looks good...
Now that gives me a few ideas....
I'll post my results when done......
Looks great, very well done.
I have finished my basic mount, used alloy and rivits, then covered it with cloth tape, so its very light, ive ordered a security camera mount arm from ebay which will attach to my dash with a small bracket i've attached to the dash. I didnt want to use a suction cup as i didnt trust it to hold the tab up over time. Ill post pics when mine is done, may help give others ideas aswell.
I got tired of taking off my case every time i charge my phone,.... so i did alil bit of modification and i thought I'd share with you guys and maybe find it helpful,...
ok,... the case that i have is a Ringke FUSION Xperia Z2 Bumper Case,... i also have a Spigen Ultra Fit which like a lot,... but I've been using the Ringke FUSION coz i think it has the best protection all around,....
your going to need a Dremel for this modification or something similar
1.) your going to need to open the Sony DK36 Magnetic Charging Dock (don't forget to remove the adapters that goes into the charging port slot),... once it's open,... your going to want to raise the magnetic port so it can reach the cellphones port when you have the case / bumper case on,.... i used a 3M double sided tape (which is 1.90mm thick) so the magnetic port can be raised permanently (as you on the picture) (and don't forget to remove the USB cable while working on it)
2.) this is where you need the Dremel or something similar,..... make your marking on your case on where your going to cut out the hole,..... i used the Dremel with a grinding tool with a small tip,.... remember to start small and slowly make your way out (don't forget to remove the phone off the case when you start griding / cut),.... use the magnetic charging port as reference to how much you should grind out / cut out,.... every now and then test fit the case to the magnetic port charger,....
3.) by now,.... your magnetic charging dock should be closed and back together,..... your not going to need any of the adapters anymore,.... try testing the phone with the case to the magnetic charging dock,.... it should fit and charge your phone already,... if not,... grind alil bit more on case so that it clears the charging port completely,..... if that still doesn't work,... you may need to open the DK36 Magnetic Charging Dock again and raise the port alil bit more,....
4.) this part is optional,.... but i did this mod to give the phone more back support,.... i found a old CD case that i wasn't using and cut out a small piece,.. about the same size as the back panel,... grind the plastic until it fits on the back panel just right,.... i used a 3M painters tape to keep the plastic piece attached to the dock,.... (the 3M double sided tape was to thick and wouldn't allow the charging port the join,.... thats why i used a thinner tape on the back of the small plastic piece,.... just roll the tape together to make it a double sided tape)
(you'll see on the picture how the small plastic piece looks like with the charging dock)
Opening the dock
How can we open the dock? It's made of so premium plastic that I am not able to open it. Can you please post a video on how to open the dock? I have a flip cover which just uses the magnet to stick but does not charge because the golden pins are not able touch each other. Just write a proper step by step on how to open it or post a video.
sorry about that,... but its kinda late for me to do a video on how to do this mod since I've already done it,...
but i can still help you,...
i kinda had a hard time opening the dock to,... and learned my lesson,... so here's what you gotta do,...
on the bottom dock,... you would see a grip tape around the surface of the dock (it helps keep the dock from moving around the table)
there are 2 screws holding the dock together,.... and they are located on the side where the grip tape is at,..... so its actually covered underneath the grip tape (the middle section of the side grip tape) just remove a small portion of the grip tape so the screws can be revealed,.....and just remove it with a small screwdriver,.... (use the first picture that i posted as reference to get an idea on where the screw mount is at)
i hope that helps,....
SCR10 official case
I have bought my SCR10 official case, from ebay this seller: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/London-Magic-Store
You can use magnetic dock with it
It seems totally legit to me, I've made a small review, check it out.http://www.4gnews.pt/sony-xperia-z2-flip-case-scr10-review/
Really awesome and quiet cheap flip-case.
Tell me what you think
yeah i saw that case,.... i was thinking about getting it but i didn't really want a flip cover case,... while it gives you protection on the LCD screen,... it also has some down side like holding it up like a book when taking a picture,...

You are the best. After reading and following your instructions million a times finally I could achieve what I desired. I just made a few arrangements from my side as my cover is the ultra slim 0.3 mm which required only a small amount of tweaking.
You can see in the pic below that I used the plastic in both the ends with double sided tape because the Z2 used slip out of the dock sometimes.
Again a very big thank you for solving this issue for me.i was a bit afraid that what would happen if my charging flap came out. But you solved it for me. Keep up the good work
I´ve this case http://www.ebay.com/itm/11135176963...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 and fit to dock very well.
