When my phone is in the holster, or when charging, it automatically comes out of standby mode every so often. I don't know why it keeps doing that, but it has done it so much that I had to turn on the Lock feature on so the buttons don't get accidently pushed when in my holster etc (very annoying). I spoke to a friend who said it might be a program running in the background that keeps making the phone come out of standby because it doesn't happen to his TP. But the running programs list only has Text, and Calendar always open so I doubt its those that's causing.
Any ideas on how to solve this really annoying issue? And does anyone else experience this?
Note: My carrier is Sprint and I have no custom ROM's)

You will find that the Lock feature isn't really going to be any help either because the sliding of the keyboard will a) Wake the phone up and b) Unlock it as well if it slides more.
You can make this registry edit to make it so the slide doesn't wake up the phone. Now, when you get a text message or email (I think) the phone will wake up but as long as you don't slide it more than about half an inch, the phone won't unlock.
You should be using the lock feature on your phone anyway. If you haven't figured it out yet, you can make the "Long End key press" lock the phone. It works very well to make locking the phone quick and easy. Then you can either use the push button method to unlock OR side the phone open to unlock.

I guess I didn't phrase it right...I mean when the phone is just sitting there and the keyboard is not opening at all because it is sitting on a desk charging, no text or e-mail message go in or out, bluetooth not connected, and no alarms, or events pop up the phone comes out of standby...same scenario in my belt holster.
True I should be using the lock feature but I like to set the timer to 5 or 10 minutes but sometimes it comes out of standby before then.

Interesting... You are really burning up your battery (if not plugged in) letting it not go into standby for 5-10 minutes but I wonder if it some other data transmission. What is your email interval set at? Even if no emails are received, it's still sending a data "pulse" to the server.
I have te same issue (Alltel Touch Pro)
I leave the phone on the charger overnite, and sitting by itself,
even with Lock on, it will wake up, stay up the timeout period,
then go back to sleep. Like it has Sleep Apnea?
I do email by webmail so that's not an issue.

mrrogers: What I meant was I like the Lock on feature to come on after 5-10 minutes...it is already in standby mode, but the lock feature is not activated until 5-10 minutes (look inside your lock settings and you will see what I mean) so I am not draining the battery.....e-mail interval is set at 4 hours so it can't be that. Even if it was that, the screen should not wake up just for sending data in or out.
fuzzynco: YES I have the same problem...its as if the phone does not want to sleep. It stays up for the timeout period then goes back to sleep then turns on again a few minutes later for no apparent reason...but for me it also comes out of standby even when not being charged.
I suppose mine might do it too then, I guess I never notice because I plug in to charge and go to sleep. :-D
I am going to test this out tonight and see what my phone does. I am running a custom Rom so who knows what might happen. I thin something that also could mask the fact that this is happening to me is that my backlight and power setting are 30sec and 1min.
If I'm not doing something on my phone, it is locked. Unlocking is so simple I don't bother with timing the locking event. I think you must use the actual "Password" protection right? I do not use that feature but I know the settings you are referring to. I have only been referring to the device lock.

My backlight and power settings are the same as yours.
I didn't understand your last paragraph. All I have enabled is my "lock" feature in the settings. The system lock with password is enabled after 5 minutes, but that doesnt mean it takes 5 minutes to go into standby mode. Standby mode is seperate, and it only takes 30 sec to go to standby. But after 5 minutes of standby, the "lock" feature with password is enabled.
My problem is that before that 5 minute mark, the screen comes out of standby for no apparent reason.
I'll chime in here. Verizon Touch Pro. Haven't really done much to it, but a few advanced config settings. Mine will wake up in the holster, and even when it's just sitting there on the desk charging. I only let the screen stay on for a short time, so I haven't seen my battery suffer, but this happens enough to be annoying.

exactly stanton! same thing with me...My screen is only set for a short time so I haven't seen battery loss but very annoying. Any theories out there?
Mine does it as well Sprint TP
I think all Windows mobile phones pretty much do this.
No idea why, but there's really nothing you can do about it.
I have been testing this evening and I can't get my phone to do it. I've been testing on battery power and will try plugged in tomorrow during the day.
Are you guys using TF3D? I'm not so I wonder if it might be something tied in there? Weather? Maybe some crazy update in the music tab?
Wish I could have helped... I'll check in tomorrow and report what I find on external power.
Long time lurker, here...
I seem to remember a similar issue with the XV6600 (Blue Angel) that was traced back to some settings having to do with the syncing with Exchange servers. My memory is kind of fuzzy on the issue, but that could be a place to start to look?
I've had my Vz TP for about a week now and have not had that issue.
Check Pocket Express. By default, it's set to update itself every 4 hours (at least on the Sprint TP).
My TP was doing the same thing (ie: coming out of Sleep on it's own). That, and the Data Connection wouldn't stay turned off. I don't like my computers and phones doing anything without my expressed permission so this was driving me nuts. Since I found the Pocket Express setting and set it to manual, my phone doesn't misbehave anymore.
Another setting you might want to look at is the QuickGPS settings. It will automatically try to update itself too. I changed mine to "Remind me when data expires" and "Auto download when connected to PC via ActiveSync" and that works best for me.
Basically, you have to go through every one of your apps and check their configurations. The two I mentioned above are definite sources of your problem but there could be others.
Pete
I havent had my VZW tp do that yet. But i see its doing it on all 3 CDMA companies. I wonder if its a glitch in the hardware or the data settings that makes it do that. I dont run any email through my phone. I wonder if the email is the cause of its insomnia.
I have the same issue whether on a stock or Custom ROM.
Not sure about effects on battery. Never really gaged it. I always get 24 to 36 hours before I have to recharge.
Its not a program in the background. I just created a clean ROM with nothing in it and it still does it.

Im pretty sure its the HTC APM 1.5 drivers.
Any other thoughts?
I didnt see any problems with the TP waking up on any of the GSM versions.
I am curious as what would be different that would cause this.
My sprint pro also does this.
Ill have it in my hand and the screen will just turn on. Not sure why.
Hey!
So I got the Mozart yesterday and I have some problems!
First of all my windows live id.
I connected with my Xbox ID and everything works fine, but in the settings it is always written attention required and updates do not work, but I can download and install apps from the marketplace.
Secondly my battery barley lasts a day WIFI and 3G connection turned off. It has been on today for 3 houres and already 10% is used?? It has only been on standby any things I forgot to turn off?
And did someone manage to get the HTC flashlight working, as it says the mozart is not supported, and does someone have that awesome notes app from HTC i cant seem to find it in the marketplace. THere is only something called lists??
Thanks in advance!
Hi.
I got my Mozart 3 days ago, but maybe I can give some answers.
HTC Notes: The easiest way is through Marketplace. Start Marketplace. On top of the list it says "HTC Apps". Tap on it, scroll down and there it is.
Or you start "HTC Hub". On bottom of first page it says "Weiter" or maybe "More". Tap on it. Do the same on next page. Under "Apps" sroll down and there it is. I prefer the first way.
Battery works fine for me. Starting in the morning at nearly 100% it goes down to about 50% in the evening. WLAN+BT turned of, 3G running the hole day. I have about 20 min. calltime and 30 min. internet. Mail download is set to 1 hour.
Update: Sorry, thought "Listen" was same as "Notes", but Notes seems not downloadable.
For battery life, don't keep push e-mail or GPS on.
battery life
and for best battery-life: turn phone off. I can't understand how feducing connectivity is accepted as the only way to keep a smartphone working throughout a single workday
The Battery Life is very good
I am seeing excellent battery life. A fully charged phone in the morning lets me run Wifi, Push email to my Exchange server, Positioning, Bluetooth and 3G all day with probably an average of 10 - 15 calls per day. Add to that, plenty of playing around, downloading, surfing and facebook etc and I think this would count as fairly decent daily usage. My battery is ausually round 30% by bed time when it is hooked up to Zune on my PC for a charge and a sync.
Cheers
Andy
OK thanks guys it was soo weird after the 10 % it didnt move until I started playing again, but it was weird that the first 10 % were finished so fast and how do you turn of GPS? I did not find an option.

The flashlight app (if you mean one that would permanently turn on the camera flash to use it as a torch) will not work on the Mozart.
The Mozart has a Xenon flash, like a real camera. These can only be used for a very short time (e.g. when the flash goes off) and not turned on for a longer time.
All other Windows Phone 7 handsets use LED lights as their flash. These are not as bright when they just flash, but they can be turned on permanently without them burning out.
I don't think any Flashlight app will ever support the Mozart, because of this.

Totally forgot about that XD
Still a bit stupid should have also built in a LED
Hi again.
Notes is now in Marketplace. Tap HTC Hub and you'll see it. But I don't think you have a chance to get it in zune. Just downloaded it, it's great.
HTC Notes is great but you can write free hand, only type?
and why we need HTC Notes as MS Office Note has the same functionality and its already installed on WM 7.
My problem is the power-Button. This button is too sensible. If i have the mozart in my pants, it could be that the phones turns off by walking.

so you're saying that when the phone is locked it can be powered off without unlocking it first?

Yes. This is more a software-problem... Or stay i alone with this problem?
I am not sure exactly what has happened to mine and I cant seem to find any similar scenarios on the net so far.
It cut out/turned off mid phone call this morning and it will not turn back on, have tried power button and camera button, pulled out/replaced battery, put it on charger (no charge light), only thing left is to try my gf's battery (my battery was >50%) but I don't think that is the problem. Not really looking for a solution here but will post back if I work it out so others can easier (will take it to the shop).
EDIT: Don't know if this will help anyone but I tried as a last resort a hard reset (you lose all your data) and for some reason the phone just turned on ( I didn't get a reset screen). I did this by holding the volume up and the volume down and briefly tapping the power button.
Has anyone have problems scrolling the pages up and down in internet explorer, it sometimes does not react to your finger, like it just freezes.
In dark rooms, sometimes my mozart makes blue pictures...
All of the problems above I have experienced and more, the OS at best is a first release, and depending on your software environment, what apps you have installed, you will experience a variety of problems. On the whole if you use mainstream apps, you should not have major problems. Battery life, is mainly down to your carrier, optimising their servers to deliver data to the phone in an economical way.

It true if you press the unlock button for a long time it turns off regardless of where you are in the OS.....
And the IE problems sometimes happens... No clue why but it sometimes also zooms in and out instead of scrolling.
These are normal ^^
So up until today, I've had not one single issue with my flyer. It's been super speedy and very responsive. I left it last night on the charger uploading a video to YouTube. (WiFi only BTW.) When I woke up the upload was done and the battery was charged. But everything seemed super slugish. Just flipping between home screens was painfully slow. I restarted the tablet and was shocked to see the device hang on both shutdown and reboot. For much longer than normal. I've never seen it this slow. I went in and killed some un necessary services and processes ... No change. I restarted the tablet again and if seemed slightly faster. But not like before still. I haven't tried rooting I'm still 100% stock. Could it be a virus? If so does a factory reset take care of that. Is rather not have to do that but I'm willing If its sure to solve my issues. Any other ideas from anyone? My recent installs include Google+, VidTrim, xda, and soundcloud.
I'll post back here if things change or I find the culprit. In the meantime has anyone else run into similar slowdowns?
P.s. I was wondering if it was an HTC sense issue. It crashed on me once before rebooting the first time and seemed to take forever to load after powering on ... All the animations were laggy and the clock was off by about an hr..... Frustrating. I really like this device.
Hi,
I get a major slowdown on my Flyer when connecting to 'free' public wifi sites. These are sites that provide free wifi after you have signed in via a web page where you enter a username/password or checked a box to accept some terms and conditions etc.
The wifi at my home or via my HTC Desire hotspot is fine as are all other wifi hotspots where I connect directly using the name and credentials stored in my Flyer. It's only these ones that require the additional login that give me trouble.
When it hits, the Flyer becomes unusable for anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. Hitting the home button generally shows a blank screen that gradually (and I mean g-r-a-d-u-a-l-l-y) redraws. A message stating that HTC Sense has stopped appears and you have the option to restart sense, wait or tell HTC. None of these help as the message box just disappears and then reappears about 30s later. In all cases I've noticed that the sync icon is showing in the notification bar.
It's a real annoyance, but I can mitigate it if I login to the sites before the sync starts. Unfortunately if I accidentally wander into range of one of these sites, and the Flyer finds it and decides it's time to sync then it stops again and I have to very patiently wait for the screen to respond, pull down the notifications, switch to the config settings and switch off wifi. There is still a delay until the sync realises that the wifi is no longer available.
As I said above I also have a HTC Desire that connects to these networks with no problem. This is not running sense however as I needed more application space so instead it's running gingervillain 2.7 (android 2.3.4) and has no problems with the connection.
So I suspect Sense and some synching operation its running. Will do some more investigation tomorrow as more users come online at work.
Cheers.
Haven't heard of any Android viruses that slow down the system like you are talking about, only malware that is disguised as an app. So if you haven't installed anything recently, I would say not any type of malware.
Factory reset may help. But of course, that means starting from scratch re-installing all your apps, setting up your home screens, etc.
I'm attributing it to the fact that the thing had been up and running for like a week. After a restart it seemed to have cleared up. Note to self .. power down and reboot every few days.
I had something very similar...
I installed "a bunch of stuff", then went traveling (across Europe), and tried to use the gps as I went. The flyer slowed to a crawl and became very temperamental. It felt like something was hogging the processor. Several reboots did not fix the problem.
Even sometimes the unlock screen could not get enough processor cycles to complete the unlock.
I started uninstalling the various apps I had installed, and eventually normal service was restored (and has continued fine).
Unfortunately, I was not rigorous about the uninstalling sequence, so I can't be sure what caused it.
My suspicion is that it was an Engine I installed for Text-to-speech settings. But it is only a suspicion. Like I said I installed a bunch of stuff (stupid really).
If someone can point me to an installation history howto, I'll try to be more precise.
Hi, I have noticed that my little GPS satellite icon stays on and is draining the battery constantly after a hard reboot. Does anyone know why this is? I have not done anything out of the ordinary and its never done this. I know it would come on once in a while and then turn off, but this time its on all the time. Im on the latest OTA update on the HTC EVO 3D unrooted.
UPDATE...I just shut down my phone and turned it back on, and now seems fine, dont know why with a reboot instead of a shutdown the GPS goes crazy.
A lot of the time apps will request gps location and won't shut it off until it finds a fix. If you're in a location where gps signal sucks, that could be the culprit. I discovered Facebook does this for example.
I have been using LBE Privacy Guard to monitor what apps are trying to do so I can deny or allow them to access certain permissions. Of course, by default a lot of them don't prompt so def check through your apps from within LBE. Now, LBE does claim to require root, but I don't think it would hurt to at least try. The active protection service is the only option that i've seen ask for super user permission. Might be worth checking out, but not sure how well it'll work for unrooted phones.
Anyone else having this happen? If I reboot, as soon as my phone comes up the GPS is going and continues to go for like 7-10 minutes before finally going away.
No clue what's causing it but it's rather annoying.
I would guess it is normal for Google and other services on your phone to collect data on your location for things like weather and traffic and stuff like that right after a boot but 7-10 minutes is a rather long time. Is the gps signal locked during that time or flashing like it is trying to obtain a signal?
If you run your task manager you should be able to see what apps are running and that may give an indication of which is trying to get your location for so long.
Update: Just started happening again and this time the phone wasn't rebooted. I'm almost convinced it's an app. And no it doesn't fully lock on, but it tries to the entire time. I'll play around with it some more, but I have a feeling it's one of the many apps I installed today.
It's Beautiful Widgets causing the problem. Also sometimes the time isn't updated properly. Not sure if BW is having an issue with this phone, or ICS, or maybe just MY specific configuration.
Any other good Clock/weather widgets out there?
