Dude! 2.3.4 only just leaked! You'll need to wait a little while longer.
Anyways I'm seeing very little drops at the moment, but this always depends of what is running.

A fully charged battery will not drop that quickly in two hours something is wrong .
Reflash the firmware or wait for release of finished 2.3.4 as i understand this is only a test release .

Please check your battery usage info in the settings. There is a very well known bug related to Wifi Sharing eating your battery, even if you did not enable Wifi Sharing.
If your phone gets hot, and battery drains very quickly (in 1-2 hours), this is most probably related to the Wifi Sharing bug.
You can freeze wifi sharing if you have a rooted device, or you will need to check your battery usage info from time to time(mostly when you feel your phone becomes hot even when it stays in your pocket) and force stop Wifi sharing if it starts to show up.
Hope this helps
If this is not the case with you, I do not have a clue

Hy all. Having problems with superuser after flashing darky's rom xxkg1. I don't have enough posts to post it in the dev section so I do it here. I get a FC when try to acces superuser. Do you know what the problem could be? I also reflashed supercore kernel and yet nothing. Thank you in advance.

This is the "Question & Answers" section and is the correct place for this thread. The Development forum is for people releasing development work and should not be used to ask questions. The reason you can't post in there till you have 10 posts is in the hope that you'll understand what the forums are for by the time you can post in there.
When you can, please don't post questions in the development forum.
Thanks, and good luck with your problems

Was just an example. If I dial any mmi code, will get a message like: "mmi code invalid or inserted wrong".
Am I right that the new custom 2.3.4 ROM (Villain, Darky...) are not using a 2.3.4 Kernel only the 2.3.4 firmware and radio? So this might not improve battery life significantly since it is still an old Kernel.
The battery drain bug could therefore only be solved with a 2.3.4 Kernel.
I am new to Android, so are my assumptions right?

I was using LiteningRom for a couple of weeks and when I saw 2.3.4, I tried to update ROM asap. But I couldn't even flash it with Odin as the whole process freezes in the middle...
Few hours later, I achieved installing a 2.3.4 ROM (Infusion) and I'm on it since yesterday. As far as I can see, there's absolutely nothing better in battery management : AOS is still in top of battery usage after moderate usage.
With my SGS, 2.3.4 had solved battery drain, it seems with SGSII it's not the same. But as Schindler33 said, maybe it's because of the kernel.
Wait for the official firmware to come out over kiss and then we can all see if battery life is improved.
Yep, it seems the leaked version is really NOT a final one ^_^
Hope the final will solve this battery drain
Hi guys,
So for the past week or so, I've been noticing really bad battery drain on my GS2, and I think I have finally pinpointed the problem.
"BetterBatteryStats" has told me that there are 2 specific wakelocks running in the background, which prevent the phone from going to 'deep-sleep'. These are the "suspend" and "events/0" processes. They are on for hours, preventing the phone from going into a proper 'deep-sleep', and keeping it awake.
My question is, how would I stop these processes from running? I know for a fact that it is not such a common 'bug', because tons of people are getting >18 hours on their GS2 with moderate/heavy use, while I'm only getting about 10 with light/moderate usage.
So in short, why are the "suspend" and "events/0" processes running while the phone is supposed to be in sleep mode, and how do I stop them from running and draining battery?
Thanks everyone!
Well I don't have that problem so can't say. You should ask it on the BBS dedicated thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Regards.
This is the famous "Android OS" bug, which happens only on SGS2. Search the forum and you'll see quite a few threads about it. There is no solution, but keeping wifi off when not in use or setting is to sleep when screen is off helps quite a bit.

hmm, I am having this problem as well, I'm used to my iphone, where i can use it all day and still remain above 50% meanwhile every time i pop the screen on my GS2 the percentage is down from last time. its horrible, very much considering going back, I love this phone, but this battery draining situation is out of control for me.. midnight -8:30 i lost 45 percent battery.. screen off..

well for me, installing the siyah 1.8 kernel has sorted it and my battery life is pretty damn good now.
Others will tell you its not fixed and the extra battery life im getting is a placebo. But all i know is i used to get 3 hours screen on time and lose 15-20% battery overnight. Now i lose 2% overnight and get 5-6 hours screen on time. If thats placebo then so be it.

I think I just read somewhere in the Galaxy S2 forum that AOS isn't exactly solved on the .14 kernel (which siyah 1.8 is based on)..... it just merely not include suspend and events/0 into the Android OS count for the battery.....

is siyah 1.8 better for battery life compared to siyah 2.1 or the newer one?
I tried 2.1, but I still have high android OS.
Using bbs, I see that suspend and events/0 is still around 1 to 3 minutes each day.
I have turned off:
Accounts and sync > background data & auto-sync,
Privacy > back up my data,
Location and sec > use wireless networks.
Any other advice?

Use a 2.3.4/2.3.5 based ROM such as CheckROM HD or Hyperdroid-Androidmeda with Darknight-Siyah Kernel.
I get 3 days of use if i keep data off . With Data on and normal usage i get on average 0.7-1% drop per hour compared to 3-4% of 2.3.3 ROM.I think it's a combination of kernel and ROM that solves the problem.
Earlier CPU Spy used to show lots of time spent at 800Mhz which is what android OS bug does. Now i see it spending 1-2% time in 800Mhz and most of time in deep sleep.
thanks for the reply.
now I am using CRv3.1.1 with speedmod 18test3.
but it seems that from day to day, events/0 & suspend are getting bigger and bigger.
do you know why?
I upgraded to KI3 a long time ago, and froze the hubs + wifi sharing / wifi sharing manager (i never even used the hubs anyways), and what do you know; my battery can now easily last me a LONG time, after 16 hours it still always has AT LEAST 40% remaining, and that is with a few hours screen-on time, data sometimes on, wifi usually always on! I'm extremely happy now!
So in short, for those of you with bad battery life, the least you could do is upgrade to XXKI3 or XXKI4 (they're pretty much the same thing) firmware/kernel. Even completely stock without root/frozen apps is A LOT better than any other 2.3.4 / 2.3.3 ROMs.
CRv3.1.1 is already based on xxkj3, and I have already frozen most of samsung bloatware.
However, I have just found out that kernel is an important factor in high suspends and events/0.
Now I use the previous version: speedmod 17 test 1, and suspends & events/0 decrease a lot.
Snce I have updated my GS2 to ICS my battery drains insanely fast. I don't even do anything with it. I go to the battery consumption table and it seems like the screen is overusing the battery. The rest are fairly normal percentage.
Like I mentioned in the beginning I only have this problem when i'm using ICS. Right now I have the stock ROM that I downloaded from SamMobile. When I'm using custom ROMs it gets worse. What could this be?
And yes I did try to search for similar problems, because it seems like a lot of people have problem with the battery but no one had the exact same problem as me.
I can just add that since I last charged my phone my screen has been on the lowest brightness and the phone had just been lying on my desk. I haven't even touched it. still 7% has been drained and the screen seems to do the job.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Same to me....Plzzz guys...Help US.
Battery drain is the hotest topic on ICS these days. I believe the high RAM consumption of ICS is causing battery drain. Almost every ICS rom is having this issue. You are not alone. Relax and wait, you will see improvements.
-
In the mean while, you can install "betterbatterystats" to find out what is draining your battery. Good luck.

So when you clicked on display, it showed that screen on time is 1 hour, and your battery is currently at 77%? That isn't terrible, actually. That means you're on track for a little over 4 hours of screen on time before your battery will reach 0%. Average screen on time for full battery discharge is usually around 4-5 hours.
If you are using the phone, and the screen is on, the battery WILL drain.

No believe me this is not good battery time at all. I have screen on lowest brightness and barely use it. Even when it's just lying there with screen off it drains a lot. I mean I have had this phone since last summer so I have had it or a while and he battery was pretty good before. But since I updated to ICS the battery drains a lot faster than before.

You just said the screen said it was on for an hour, and the battery was at 77% in your post above. So was that not accurate?
If it is draining more since you upgraded to ICS, and you want it to get better, then you have three choices:
1 - Install BetterBatteryStats and other monitoring apps to figure out what is keeping wakelocks and other processes running on your phone that is draining battery...
2 - Do a factory reset/full wipe and see if it was an errant app you installed that could be draining the battery, then slowly start adding your apps back one by one... or
3 - Flash back to a Gingerbread firmware.

Yeah I guess you're right, but at the same time the battery is very very bad compared to before so I'm confused. Maybe I was just enjoying a really good battery time back on Gingerbread?
1. First of all that BetterBatteryStats is too complicated for me. I tried to use it before I didn't get it. What am I supposed to do when I find something that is draining my battery. Should I freeze it? Uninstall it?
2. I have tried this a lot of times, no change.
3. If I use Gingerbread for some reason the APN settings with at&t doesn't work properly. I lose connection very often. So I'll rather have worse battery time for now. Is there a solution to the internet connection?
Thanks man I appreciate you taking your time!

What modem/baseband are you using with Gingerbread, that could make a difference with mobile data dropping.
Also, what APN settings for AT&T are you using? There are a few different APNs. The two major ones are "wap.cingular", and "phone". The one you should actually use will depend on what kind of data plan you are signed up on.

Do you have the APNs for "phone?" It would be awesome to have that. Then I could just go back to GB until they fix it.
BTW I checked my battery stats again, 24% left. It says screen 56% and Time on: 1h 54min... So it's is pretty bad, right? . It dropped really fast.
Android OS is second with 15%.

APN for "phone" doesn't work unless you have a specific data plan - namely any 4G plan. So if I recall from some of your past posts, (I remember you now) you're on the non-smartphone data plan, right? Then the "phone" APN won't work for you if you are.

Stock XXKI3, (2.3.5) I have several mods though.
If all else failed, try shutting down your phone, take the battery out and clean the battery contact points. Dirty contact points might be the culprit.

I flashed CM9 on my GSII on Friday and ever since it's had 5-6 hours on usage. I've tried doing the battery calibration stuff, seemed to be better Monday and today it had 50% after a few hours of gaming so that seemed normal but then i reset it and it dropped down to 10%. I tried calibrating again and still 5 hours.
I've been using that Battery Calibration app and it game me 40% charge at ~3500mV. I'm not sure whether that is the battery volume but seeing as 100% was 4200mV something seems wrong.

As was already pointed out, bad battery life is almost always a rogue app keeping the phone awake, install Better Battery Stats and CPU Spy to monitor wake locks and deep sleep, if you find a problem with an app keeping your phone awake, uninstall it and your problem will likely go away. Personally, I've been running CM9 and other variants of ICS for months and I get less than 1% per hour of drain while the screen is off and the phone is asleep, this is better than Gingerbread was.

Right, but background sync can still hit the battery, even with screen off. I was just curious.
Ive had days with horrible drain but it was almost always an app doing something dumb and keeping the phone awake, bad cell reception or a noisy wifi router. The trick being to identify wake locks that seem suspicious and track them down.

You don't have to. Since you're an XDA member you can download it from here. Just search for it.

It's always better for everybody to support the developer by purchasing it on the Play Store, I did it.
It's a thing of principles, if you support developers they will keep improving apps and making our lives more enjoyable with our beloved SG2.
Regards.

I agree with you, I was just trying to help the guy out who was asking for it.
I need some assistance, I just flashed MeanROM 5.7 this morning and seem to be experiencing the same issue, a draining battery. It's like 8:30am and I unplugged about 6:30am. I'm currently at 77% with very light usage. I've sent maybe 20 text messages and spent maybe 10 minutes in various apps. My on screen time is currently 29 minutes. I have email set to sync every 4 hours, weather syncs every three hours, I created the MeanRom.opt file and set parameters for battery. Is there anything I can do to increase my battery life as I hear about others getting at least a full day out of their battery.

I get 30+ hours with almost 4 hours of screen on try turning off auto sync and whatever else is not neccesary such as GPS and IMHO changing to battery I tried it once and got horrible battery life you can also check Better Battery Stats and see if some rouge programs are running I know GN is a big battery killer also I always heard having wifi on as much as possible was supposed to save battery but.. I had mine on and it kicked the crap out of my battery I saw in BBS that wifi had almost 6000 wakelocks so I turned it off until I needed it then back off when done no more battery problems.
It's not uncommon to have mediocre battery life immediately after flashing a ROM...give it a day or two to settle and it should improve. That's typically been the case for me.

Couple of reboots also helps

Thanks BD, will try turning off the autosync. Is there a way I can disable GN? It's rather slow.
Do u do anything else to get that type of battery life? I heard I shld keep 3g off until I actually nd it. What say u?

Hey Premo, I have been having this problem with previous versions al well. I was told I shld keep 3g off until I use an app or svc which requires internet connectivity. What say u?

I have never used GN but I have seen members post there is a way to turn it off in GN settings and my 3g is always on unless I do hook into wifi for a few minutes, I only use wifi as needed.

Yeah, that would help...wifi uses less battery than 3g too, so use that whenever you can. Just make sure the "Best WiFi Performance" option is disabled in wifi settings (it drains battery pretty aggressively).
You really shouldn't have to disable your data connection to get decent battery life though. Have you let the battery run all the way down? How many hours do you get on a full charge? Do you have the same problem with other roms?

I never turn off my 3g. It seems that if it doesn't need data, that it isn't using the 3g. It's on but in a standby mode.
When I'm at home, it's connected to WiFi. Which will help some.
I do have my auto sync turned off too. If stops pinging for messages all the time.
What is GN?
