Hello, guys!
Sorry for the question, but how can I install xRecovery 2.5 or 2.6, after I've already updated to CM6-1.0.2 with CWM 3? I've read a lot of topics, that say there is need to install an earlier version of xRecovery in order to be able to install .zip applications like themes for example.
I've tried to do it with ROM Manager, it says then I've xRecovery 1.7, 2.4 or another one, and when I choose to reboot in Recovery, Clockworkmod recovery 3 appears again, instead of the version that ROM Manager has reported.
Could you please explain me how to install recovery.img manually step by step or another way to install xRecovery over CWM 3? I've tried also to install it manually by copying chargemon and busybox files in bin folder, but after that the phone can not load the system - a lot of errors appear on boot.
I'll be very thankful to you for your help!
Thanks for the "answers", guys! Over 12 hours of fishsilence, thank you very much! You all are so "helpful" here as like we all are developers and should understand from a few words in your developers' slang!
The answer of my question is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1079112
Yes, right here, guys! The xRecovery for the X10 Mini Pro works on the X10 Mini! No need for complex hboots, rom managers or so - simple .apk installation and the CWM 3 turned into 1x xRecovery!
Seems that you don't know that there is a search button into the forum.
One previous page there is a post named CWM2XREC (CW Recovery to Xrecovery)
Simply a update.zip file:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1111075
You may use the search button or atleast look two or three pages of the local forum.
Anyway the CW supports Xrecovery backup files.
Nope, I know about it, but the problem was I was unable to istall .zip files under CWM 3 for the lack of Edify script in it.

yes you can't flash old .zip with amend script but this one allows you to flash old xrecovery above cwm (i tried myself.)
then you'll be able to flash old .zip but no more the recent with edify scripting

this thread is open to help newbies to install the 2.1 custom rom with the simples way..
you also can discuss any problem here..
dont mess the dev thread with a dumb question...
thanks to "Perceval from Hyrule" for the original tutorial..
this is revise version for 2.1
INSTALLATION FOR 2.1 AOSP
Before attempting anything, make sure you have AT LEAST 50% of battery charge. Don't try anything with low battery, you can abort the flashing and brick your device !!!
Please make sure you're also running a 2.1 rom (Generic, nordic, official, custom...)
1st step:
make sure your computer is adb debugging ready..
in case in need for command execution..
- Download Android SDK
You don't need to save the entire archive (but you can), you just need the Tools folder (because it contains ADB, the Android Debug Bridge we need to install files).
2nd step:
- On x10 :
Enable USB debugging (Setting > Applications > Development).
Root your device. easiest way by using z4root.
Download and install Busybox (from Market), make sure it says "Done!".
3rd step:
install xrecovery for recovery menu.
xrecovery a.k.a recovery menu
4th step:
option 1:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip)
rename the *.ZIP to Update.ZIP
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
option 2:
Download rom.
2.1 AOSP ROM (make sure 2.1 since this tutorial is for 2.1)
extract the rom (u will get 2 folder + 1 files)
upload the file into your sd card root(sdcard/*.zip) or in any folder u like
*the 2 folder contain application which u can install if u like
5th step:
boot into recovery menu (by restart and hit few times back button when "SONY ERICSSON" word appear)
backup your original rom(in case u want to restore next time)
hit full wipe
option 1:
hit install update.zip from SD card
option 2:
hit install custom zip
search for the custom zip in folder where u save it
hit the zip file
after reboot, u will get custom rom installed in your X10
good luck ;-)
TIPS
1-u can do like rendeiro2005 said by creating rom folder and put the rom collection in it..
so if u want to change or try other rom just choose zip file from the particular folder...
this require using step from option 2
2-another one, by creating folder which contain backup image..
u can collect your friends backup image and put in one folder..
if u want to try, just restore the particular image file using backup/restore option in recovery menu and choose the backup image file..
collection of custom rom backup file for recovery menu:

Hi bro,
Only two calls on your excellent tutorial:
1. No need to put the rom in the root of the sdcard. I, for example, to distinguish the roms, I`ve created a folder "Rom" in the root and put the roms in there.
2. It is not necessary to rename the *. zip file.
When we entered the xRecovery, you can go to "install Custom Zip> zip Choose Custom from sdcard>" Now in my case I a. .. "Roms >........" and I intend to choose

it`s not a different way.
i think that way would be more simple (for me at least) `couse you can have different roms puted on the same directory without, everytime that you want to install one change his name to default.zip
but...great TUT (clap your hands floks)
Since i haved installed the 2.1 AOSP, my recovery were deleted !
So i install the xrecovery.apk but it doesnt work (don't fin the SD Card), so i paste the 3 files with root explorer but nothing to do... the recovery doesn't work at all =(

Install all 3?! Yes you can...if you want you can install WM and iOS
Now mre seriously.
If you want to install 2.1 you have to format sdcard to one partition only. 2.1 doesn't work with more than 1.
Then you can flash...follow this guide to do so

Hi,
is xrecover a one time install thing?
I installed xrecover and installed the generic rom.
when i boot the phone i can still get into xrecover.
do I still need install xrecovery (putting in the 3 files) and the update.zip after a new flash?
or once i have xrecovery, i have it forever?
thanks
no you'll need to copy the 3 files after each flash!
i dont know what update.zip you mean coz to install xrecovery you only have to copy the 3 files
oh ok. thanks!
update.zip was part of flashing rom. i thought it was part of xrecovery.
thanks!
Read the details of the update. Zip. If it said that it include xrecovery, then you don't need to copy those 3 files again

I saw that many users were running into problems (bootlooped/stuck at SE text logo) by installing the latest xRecovery v1.0.0 the wrong way/wrong update.zip on different custom roms...
so here i will share some modified installers which i created for my own use but i guess it will help u guys too till ur favorite ROM dev implements it in his/her ROM...
[*] AS ZDZIHU IS CURRENTLY INVESTIGATING THE ISSUES IN xRecovery v1.0.0 and removed links in his thread... I advise you to kindly wait for some time before trying out this new Recovery [*]
the files provided here are for older recoveries (xrec v0.0.x & FreeXperia rec) only...
all the files are update.zip (amend syntax) flashable via recovery
[IMP] installing these files MAY BREAK any special features provided by ur ROM dev (which were incorporated into the chargemon file)
[ Backup Current Recovery ]
just read this post:

[ Installer for xRecovery v1.0.0 ]
2.1 ROMs
Please use the xRecovery-1.0.0-update.zip provided by zdzihu in the xRecovery thread
2.2 ROMs (who dont require custom kernel by default. e.g.: FreeX10)
Please use the FreeX10-beta4-hotfix2.zip provided by zdzihu in the FreeX10 thread
2.3 ROMs (who require custom kernel by default. e.g.: CM7)
THIS CAN BE USED ON CM7/other roms which use custom kernel as default booting option... I have myself tested it & currently using it on CM7.0.3 J021 K011..
xRecovery-1.0.0-rbt_kexec.zip
2.1/2.2/2.3 ROMs
This is for those ROMs who dont require custom kernel by default but have the option to select custom kernel on next bootup.... basically the ROMs which use FreeXperia Recovery but donot boot custom kernel by default... or users who are using freexperia recovery to test custom kernels can also use this file...
xRecovery-1.0.0-rbt_test_kexec.zip
[ Restore older Recovery ]
i am currently having a little trouble with edify syntax + update-binary combination... till then u guys can check the backup current recovery post [RECOMMENDED]
OR
[testing]
just connect the phone (when its booted into the android OS) to PC and use latest FlashTool to install xRecovery (it will actually install FreeXperia Recovery)..
P.S.: once u flash this version of xRecovery (v1.0.0) u will no longer be able to flash Amend syntax update.zips (most of the update.zips available right now including some ROM install update.zips) till the time the devs switch to Edify syntax for their work...
did you check the possibility of creating a backup of your chargemon and xrecovery.
and having a zip which can restore the chargemon and old xrecovery.

btw creating such backup/restore file is easy (atleast in Amend syntax)...
the problem is with Edify syntax... i am still not able to get consistent results...

EDIT:

if u still have doubts just post ur 2.2 rom (which requires custom kernel as default) /system/bin/chargemon content here... so i can tell u immediately...
Backup current chargemon/recovery
Backup current chargemon/recovery
hey guys as was suggested by anantshri i have made a backup chargemon/recovery update.zip...
just flash this file (via recovery) before u flash any files form post #1:
xRec_v1.0.0_BACKUP_current_rec.zip
Few things to keep in mind:
this script will only backup the following two files:
/system/bin/chargemon
/system/bin/xrecovery.tar (this is the recovery file used by xRecovery v0.0.x)
the backups will be stored as:
/system/bin/chargemon.xr.ori
/system/bin/xrecovery.tar.xr.ori
if ur current recovery is not in /system/bin/xrecovery.tar dont worry as the xRecovery v1.0.0 installers provided in post #1 will anyways not remove those files
currently i am working on a restore script but it might take a bit longer
till then u can manually restore your older recovery by doing the following:
boot into OS
start root explorer (or u can do the same via adb shell)
remount /system as rw
navigate to /system/bin/ folder
locate the files:
chargemon.xr.ori
xrecovery.tar.xr.ori (if this file is not there dont worry, u were using freexperia recovery so that is untouched)
once u have verified that the above files are present (meaning that backup of files was properly done) ONLY THEN locate and delete/remove the following files:
chargemon
xrecovery.tar
and finally rename:
chargemon.xr.ori to chargemon
xrecovery.tar.xr.ori to xrecovery.tar
if by chance there is a failure during flashing/something goes wrong in recovery please check the log file created by this backupscript:
/sdcard/xrecovery_v1.0.0_installer_log.txt
P.S.: for those who want to learn/know wht is goin on while flashing the update.zip in this post just check the take_backup file in the update.zip provided

zip should just say

ya i know Cobrato has dual recoveries on his rom...
the thing is that the chargemon he uses for it is non standard... so the functionality will break if the modded chargemon gets replaced...
wht i prefer is to use freexperia recovery (which already comes with CM7 and is located at /system/recovery/) and then install xRecovery v1.0.0 on top of it (this is installed at /system/bin/xrecovery.tar)... and just keep toggling chargmons... i know this is not idea solution... but currently there is no other alternative until all update.zip use edify syntax...
Hi,
I'm having problems installing a custom rom and need your help!
Here's what I did:
0) Installed the lastest SW (version 2.1.1.A.0.6 + baseband M76XX-TSNCJOLYM-53404015)
1) Rooted and installed xRecovery without any problems at all
2) I place a custom room in the root of the sd card (tried several different ones)
3) Boot up in xRecovery
4) Select "factory reset" (with succes)
5) Select "Install custom zip" - "choose custom zip from sdcard" and then select my custom rom and answer "yes"
Then therese a shot flash of events, but it's too fast to read. At any rate nothing is installed. I'm able to restore my backup with any problems.
How come I can't install a rom?
Thanx all!

easy dude !
1. make sure it's .zip file.
2. open the .zip and have alook at it's containments
3. if there is only one folder with the name of the ROM, then u need to extract that .zip and put the extracted folder in SD\ xrecovery\ backup then use "restore" from xrecovery menu
else if u find two folders "meta" and "system", then it simply should have worked!

Always search first post of specific thread for answers you will find your answer, or at least search your question before posting
you are not specific to your question
Q.1 Which Firmware are you using
Q.2 Is it Rooted
Q.3 what kind of theme is that (a CWM Flashable, xRecovery Flashable or Manual)
If you are using stock firmware then you will have to root, then you find a compatible theme and apply it according to the method provided by the theme maker
same applies to Custom ROM but they are already rooted and you might already have a recovery software installed
e.g
if its flashable by xRecovery you can go to xRecovery and flash it
if its flashable by CWM you can go to CWM and flash it
if you don't want to flash it go to Root Explorer copy that Framework-res.apk and replace it in system/framework directory and change permission to rw-r--r-- and reboot your device
and above all Backup your device before doing these because first time you might do it wrong and stuck up in boot loop
im using cm mini 7 v20 for rooted mini pro, i dont know if themes are flashable or not, they dont write that:

not everyone are captain obvious to know what type they are

first i must tell you as it is for older miniCM version it might cause problems
First extract your zip in SD card
copy apks from framework and apps folders
mount /system to rw and paste them to system folder
change permission of each apk to rw-r--r-- by press-holding and clicking permission in root explorer
make sure all apks have permission of rw-r--r--
move and replace framework-res.apk from /system to /system/farmework/
move and replace all other apks from /system to /system/apps/
Reboot
Thats it; if you done it correctly then it will go fine
or you can try themes from here by installing apks Here
The apks can be extracted and installed directly, no copying and setting permissions needed. However the core framework of cm7 must have changed since these were made as they don't render properly on newer cm7 based roms
