Hey all,
Looks like a new version of Skype is out on the market but only for select phones...
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/30/skype-with-video-finally-released-on-android/
The phones supported seem to be HTC Desire S, Xperia Pro, Xperia Neo, and Nexus S.
Wondering if this can be ported to work for us some how on our GB builds. Just a question
Wrong section.
To answer your question, the Thunderbolt GB OTA is supposed to be rolling out starting today and will include working skype and talk video chat. It would be easier just to utilize this rather than trying to make a port work on our hardware.

Agreed wrong section but I highly doubt we will see an OTA today or even in the next few days.

That's why I said supposed. I agree with you the OTA's never come when expected, however, this will be when we really will be receiving truly functional video chat and not before. Like skype was on froyo type of quality.
The new Skype works just fine on the Thunderbolt!
You simply have to have Gingerbread installed to use it.
When they said "select phones" they were referring to phones running Gingerbread.
Simply install Gingerbread and Skype and enjoy!

Verizon already confirmed that there will be no update released for the Thunderbolt today. The original rumor of August release is looking most likely. http://twitter.com/#!/VZWSupport/status/86427671441059841

I've used it and it works.
Thunderbolt powered by Bamf effen 3.0
Runnin' bamf 3.0 and I literally went to the Market searched Skype and installed it.
No problems at all.
I'm running Gingeritis and had to use to the patched version for it to work. I have not yet tested phone to phone but phone to PC works.

No word that I have heard yet. Probably AFTER the official launch
All that .4 is, is the Google Talk app w/ video.
:/
LOL Fine! I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too..
Yeah, thats what I wanted it for! I use G-Talk on my honeycomb tablet, would love to use it on my phone to video chat as well.

In my experience, it played the same on a 2.3.4 cm7 nightly and the shift 2.3.3 rom. The onto difference was that cm7 has more ram available, so going into the menu didn't cause force closes like it did on the sense 2.+ roms. On the stock evo ota the experience was 100% similar to my 2.3.4 nightly.
N64 oid sucked on my oc/d evo ..no Mario cart 64 for me..now that I think about it i guess Oslo have to pay for the emulators when I get the 3evo tommorow since i picked em all up for free when they moved to slideme
Anyone running gtalk with video chat on e3d? If so, how? is it included in any of the new roms?
Sent from my Evo 3D
gtalk is in all sense based roms, i believe its in all aosp roms as well. its a google powered phone.
It just the matter of if its the Old or newer version of gtalk with video chat

I was kind of half-expecting/half-hoping Kaos would get a build out somehow. That would have been amazing.
Well, the source code will not be released until a "couple of weeks after the Galaxy Nexus launch" :*|. I'm not a developer, so I don't know how useful this is, but there is a System Dump of 4.0 over in the Galaxy Nexus forum
When you buy a new phone that can run ICS, of course.

Workshed's tweet from the other day:
I really wouldn't expect #ICS to run on the #DroidEris and even if it does, it's not going to be very quick on a arm6 proc @710mhz 190mb ram

Maybe it will, though.
I also have my doubts about the Eris being powerful enough to handle ICS. Specifically the gpu and the lack of opengl es 2.0 support which seems to be the cause of the force closes with the ICS music apk that's floating around. However, when the source is released preludedrew and I will work on updating Evervolv to ICS for all the supported devices. Between myself with an eris and drew with a heroC, we'll see what we can figure out. I don't know if workshed will work on ICS for the eris as well but I did see that r2doesinc(OMGB/OMFGB) might give it a go.
That would be really nice to get the latest and greatest!
Just wanted to let everyone know that developer paulie vicious tweeted for everyone to spread the word for a possible MIUI rezound build and to get at him if you have a rezound. Find him on twitter @Paullie_Vicious

Awesome, I love MIUI, been using it on my EVO4G and EVO3D for a long time. Cant wait to start using it on the Rezound.
Miui is awesome. Its very slick and nice looking. I hope we can get it on rezound soon.
anyone here anything else on this rom? im DYING to get a completely SENSE free rom on this phone so we can actually use the BT stack to its fullest!
Vicious has a rezound in hand and has MIUI booting and running. He says it still needs work.
Check his twitter if you want to see for yourself.

What does sense and it's BT stack have to do with each other?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
You can't use certain Bluetooth devices, such as the Wiimote and PS3 controller, due to the stack that sense roms incorporate.

According to engadget, Google has just released chrome for select ics devices. I expect, nay DEMAND a port to my DX2 in 3..2..1..

Looks pretty slick.... ics only.... I assume they will make a version for gb phones.
Sucks it's ICS only. Any ideas on why it took them so long to get the ball going for this on Android? I assume ICS got the first release because of hardware acceleration, but you'd think they'd have a previously working version looooong ago.
Does anyone have the APK? We can try and install it anyways...

All the more reason for us X2 users to ***** at Moto/VRZ to update our phones!!! Google needs to take a stand with the manufacturers and carriers over this.

It does not and will not work without some serious hacking from what I've been told.
It does not work.
Heh, it started for me on my cm9 galaxy tab but then forced closed when i tried to search.
Since engadget said SELECT ics devices it wouldn't surprise me if it only works on.. Galaxy nexus for now..
*edit* my mistake, they do NOT specify select ics devices just 4.0 in general.

That's because ICS was a major upgrade from Gingerbread, especially at the kernel level. It was more of a rewrite than an upgrade.
Hence, this is looking for ICS libraries. It's possibly also looking for an ICS kernel which we don't have AND won't have unless Verizon decides to release ICS for the X2.
We are at the mercy of Verizon on this one.
Remember, CM9 will still have the GB kernel, not an ICS one since we cannot replace the kernel due to the locked bootloader. Again, at the mercy of Verizon AND Motorola on the locked bootloader.
I've been waiting for Chrome on Android for the entire time I've had an Android (about a year and a half). I just came across an article about on another website, read the whole thing with excitement, and then shot a baby when I read it was only for ICS. WTF?! That's very disappointing to me. Any thoughts as to why they did that? Maybe because it's beta and wanted limited exposure at first?
If they just now started working on getting chrome out then it really doesn't make sense to release it on gingerbread and ics. I would expect that it would be released for their newer os rather than the one that is going to be phased out. Maybe once they get all the bugs worked out they will release a version usable on gingerbread, so phones that won't be updated, or even new phones that aren't as powerful as the phones sporting ics, will be able to use it.

I've been able to use it on my ICS Xoom, and let me say, it is amazing. Comparable to the PC version in terms of performance. I think we should be able to use it with CM9, whenever that is released.
Adobe isn't supporting flash anymore for mobile devices so that makes sense

Because we are stuck on the gingerbread kernel, CM9 may not work unless Motorola releases ICS for DX2. As stated earlier, apk needs libraries from the ICS kernel. The only other option is to hack the actual apk.
