[Q] Screen off/on animation - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think the TV animation when the screen turns off/on, on CM7 looks pretty cool. Is something like that possible on comm rom?
I'm assuming it requires source or it isn't possible at all but I thought I would ask!

TSM is adding the CRT animation and over scroll glow effect when they release the gingerbread com rom

Well that's awesome! +1

The GB leak the new ComRom will be based on already comes with the CRT screen-off effect, actually.

Why did nitsuj specifically mention that it was included then? I thought the EC09 leak didn't include it. Unless they have something different...
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App

It was on EC09 (and in NAMELESS and TechnoROM) for me. I'd assume he just mentioned the effect because he was responding to the question "How will this be different from ComRom 2.1?" rather than "How will this be different from stock EC09?"

That makes sense. Thanks

Yea, what about froyo? !

I tried the sc 2.4 last week. I found the sleep of death very hindering. I also noticed it was not as snappy and polished as the dj05 voodoo setup I love. so, besides the lock screens, what exactly does everyone find in froyo that's so great as to make you put up with issues like this? One of the things I heard froyo offered was push notifications. However, my facebook did not push anything to my phone. I still had to go check manually..
thanks I'm advance for any input.

I'm on dl30 for froyo, I didn't start having issues with eclair until I updated to dl09 and had to do a factory reset.
EB01 is the froyo you want, not DL30

Vanilla is AOSP. Meaning, its the most clean, stock, barebone version of Android you can get.

Yes, still on 2.1, waiting on some Gingerbread goodness, but might flash Vanilla Froyo.

I suppose because like me I enjoy a touch of samsung builds. I.e. notification pull down buttons and black color bar. Just to name a few. I love sc...but jt has done an amazing job as usual with asop. Options.....the top reason I love android os.

Because we don't really have it. As of now it's being pieced together from what little source Samsung has made available but the rom is less than 100% funtional at the moment.

It has the notification pull down, but it doesn't have the buttons (wifi, BT, GPS, airplane/mobile data+rotation lock toggles, or clear notifications- the only way to remove them in AOSP is to click each notification).

With froyo leaks, we could have an actual voodoo kernels and even overclocked ones.
Once the official Froyo build is out Samsung SHOULD release the source code shortly afterwards. This'll allow for things like Voodoo Sound and other major tweaks that we can't get now.

What prevents a dev from taking some 2.1 source and getting the pulldown and adding it to aosp?

jt's AOSP rom can be used with/without Voodoo kernel. I'm not sure what Kaze105 is talking about, because with just a leak, we can't have a Voodoo sound or overclocked/undervolted kernels (unless someone goes through a lot of work to port things around, or does some nasty and risky mods to the leaked kernels).

Nothing... other than that'd be non-AOSP. Why'd I want AOSP when I could get something like CyanogenMod, which is an improved and refined version of AOSP? Or MIUI, which is a radical modification to AOSP?
Really it's all personal preference. Some people might prefer the tweaks that come with TouchWiz, some might hate them. Some might prefer AOSP, some might not... can you see where I'm going here? Different strokes for different folks (and the release of the source for 2.2 should help a lot of the roms/mods a fair bit, since they won't have to rely on Eclair ports or ugly hacks).

Big on Transition animations!

So I been a big flasher of roms since I had my vibrant. Tried em all. Eclair all the way to cm7 gingerbread. The one thing that always attracted me to a specific rom is the animations. In my opinion cm7 had the nicest, smoothest, slickest animations. Especially the screen off animation ( my favorite) . My question is is there anyone out there that can duplicate those same animations or extract them and integrate them into the custom froyo roms? Or even create a flashable zip to add them to any rom? I loved cm7 but am tired of the bugs it has so I am reverting back to froyo. Wont lie I will miss those animations lol

If you look in the themes and apps section you can find a developer who created the animations that you were asking about. He's the same guy who created the popular "better" gingerbread themes.
Take a look around there and you'll find what you're looking for.

You won't be able to get the screen off animation, but jdanisevich has created Metamorphs with a bunch of different animations you can choose from.

I did the "flipped" transitions for the first time today. You can see by my signature I approved. I did use Spare Parts to speed up the animations. Flipped may be a bit too much for some... I think it looks lovely.

No its from AOSP Gingerbread. Also, just so you know, jdan didn't create any of the animations, he's just packaged them for use on our Vibrants. Still a great themer nonetheless, just a shame I haven't seen him around here for a while.

Not on anything before 2.3.
I've been wondering about transitions and animations myself. Thanks for this thread!
Metamorph must be used with Busybox, but I'm not sure what Busybox does.

question about lock screen animation

anyone know where that screen lock animation where it looks like it has the effect of a tv shutting down???? i saw it on youtube once
edit: it's the gingerbread lock screen animation
is it possible to get that animation for the vibrant?
its built in to the 2.3 gingerbread kernel....so you need to run a ROM with the 2.3 kernel to get that effect.

oooh.....and what kernel is it on for 2.3? i might try it, but i am waiting for a stable gingerbread rom with a working gps before going back
Hi guys!
You don't need any special kernel I think.
If your phone is rooted, just install the app named "Screen Off and Lock" from the market.
It will allow you to choose different animations and... there is the one with the TV effect!
Enjoy!

I use it too...it doesn't look as sweet as gb, but it'll hold me over till a stable gb rom is released. Also, you can program screen off and lock to work when you long press search

Looks like you have to click the special screen off and lock icon to turn off the screen. If you let it time out on its own or click the power on/off button, it just turns off the regular way.
Yea, the CRT animation is pretty sick. Comes with most JVB themes too.

Rotate Screen Animation?

I don't know about you guys, but when I rotate my phone, I like to see it smoothly rotate on screen to the horizontal or back to verticle view.
Does anyone know of a flashable .zip that would do this for me?
Thanks!

Actually its funny you should mention this. Ya see I came from a Droid X running rooted Gingerbread and the 2.3.3 update finally gave us a rotation animation. It wasn't a Blur thing, it wasn't a ROM thing. It was just Gingerbread. It would do it on virtually all screens. Homescreens, browser, images in the gallery, fullscreen games. It didn't matter what it was, they all did this cool rotation animation. Now on the Thunderbolt running Gingerbread, I am saddened to see no such animation and thats with me being on a custom ROM as well, where eye candy features like this usually are abundant.
Can anyone chime in on this as I too would like to know how to get the animation back. Thanks
I second this motion.
Bumping for great justice.
By the way I looked into it and it seems this is a Honeycomb thing, not Gingerbread. At least not for stock. So it's gonna take some framework modifications to port it in.

Bumping this because I would be willing to donate to whoever can make this happen.
Gingeritis browser settings has/had this option and I must say, it was very eye catching. Although it is/was only for the browser. (Don't know if it's still there in the newer versions, haven't used the rom in a while.)
I wonder if its just somewhere in the Motorola BLUR frameworks and can be pulled out and ported to AOSP/Sense?
It would be just as great a framework mod as the CRT animation.

[REQ] AOSP lockscreen

Im probably the only one who feels this way, but i think the touchwiz lockscreen is unsmooth and really tacky. It doesnt quite look right to slide the wallpaper away.
I was wondering how possible it is to port a lockscreen, or even just turn the wallpaper into glass, so that it slides nicer.
And yeah yeah i know "flash cm7" but i am not quite ready to leave some of the touchwiz features yett.

Exactly what Im doing.
Are you sometimes getting the Samsung lock screen after dismissing the widgetlocker screen? Seems to occur when I have done kind of a notification waiting.
I have not seen the two lockscreens overlapped at all.
Replying to bump.
Haven't really seen anything regarding this mod, and no personal luck with UOT Kitchen.
Anyone have an idea how to do this?
I'm on UnNamed and not too interested in leaving it for another ROM over a lock screen. And the downloadable ones mentioned always tend to overlap with the stock one which is even more of a hassle.
