With Temp Root coming soon on the 3d, would titanium backup work in the following situation?
1. Get temp root on your phone
2. install titanium backup.
3. restore data
4. reboot
would the data stay and you lose functionality of titanium backup? or would the data and titanium backup disappear? or something else entirely?
anyone????
Yes it will, and by the way temp root is in the building.

Why is there no point to the thread?
With Temp Root, will titanium backup work after a reboot or would we have to Temp Root again for Titanium Backup to work on subsequent reboots?
Need to reroot before you can use it, unless you never reboot

You will need root to run Titanium Backup, therefor if you do reboot after running the temp root, then you will no longer have root. When you restore you programs while having root, you will still have them when you reboot, but no root, cause you haven't run the root sequence yet. So yes, the programs will stay. I am looking foward to this also, cause there are some files I just didn't backup with Astro.

When you RESTORE you will have those programs on your phone permanently until you decide to manually uninstall them.
You need root to RUN Titanium Backup, and we do NOT have permanent root yet. So yes, each time you reboot you will have to root again to run Titanium Backup so it will work and you can restore and backup your programs.

Thank you for answering a question I did not ASK.
I already understood that the backup and restore functions would actually work. (ie if I restored something after getting temp root on a particular boot up, it would stay restored after I rebooted)
However, you did answer my actual question, though after extended pontification on the question I didn't ask. So thank you.

there wouldn't be a point because s-off has been achieved, if i understand correctly, that means we have access to a more permanent type of root, much like unrevoked, etc.

If you look on your SD Card you should see a file named rootme.zip.... turn ooff your phone. Boot into recovery holding volume up and power button. Scroll to "Flash zip from sdcard" and select it. Then choose the rootme.zip. Once it says install complete reboot your phone and you should see superuser app in your app drawer.

The titanium backup will backup all installed apps and data including system apps and data if you want but you shouldn't need to backup system apps since you are going to a different ROM. A NAND backup basically creates an exact duplicate of your entire phone. So if anything happens when you flash your new ROM you can restore your NAND and be right back where you started.

hey guys, i think its time for me to speak up my problems here on mp general section and hoping some of you guys will answer.
my problem is that i need to root my xperia mini pro back. im currently on .62 fw unrooted. i lost the root by itself when i update my phone from .58 to .62 and currently there are no way to root .62 yet. I NEED ROOT BACK!
so the reason is why im desperate to root my phone back is because im using an app called link2sd, its an great app that can move/link any system/installed apps and dalvik cache to sd and it requires root. so i nearly move all my everyday use app such as twitter, facebook and all other games and app to my sd using the app.
the thing is like i said it requires root, but when i update my phone to the latest fw (.62) i lost my root without notice. SO, all my linked/moved app to sd using the link2sd app are now invisible from my phone/system. the only way to make it visible back is root. but there are no way to root my phone on .62. so i can say my phone is now so boring there are no games and apps because nearly all of them are invisible because of no root!
so im planning to go back to .58 using wotanserver i think? and root it there and never come back to .62 unless there are new method to root it such as using zergrush method.
so my questions, if i downgrade to .58 using the wotanserver some said it need to reset data. what does it mean? does it will reset/format/factory reset my phone? i dont really want that because to do that usually i need to backup my contacts, messages, apps and games first using titanium backup but obviously i cant because my phone is unrooted. i mean, does it mean my apps will be gone?
so help me guys, its been a month my phone become unpowerful and just and ordinary phone because of my apps and games are invisible! :B
Edited post. Didn't read in first place.
Yes, flashing will remove all data in phone memory, apps, contacts, messages etc, so backup all your stuff to SD card(contacts via Contacts app, don't know about other stuff atm, as I lost all the stuff also). During flashing, SD card stays untouched.

thanks for the reply man!
so if it will reset my phone memory data does it mean all my apps/games saved on phone memory will be gone? but my apps/games that are saved on sd card will kept untouched/not gone?
can someone confirm this?
if it so, then i need to write down or memorize all my apps that are saved on phone memory so that i can download it back later after reset.
its just my silly habit
All the apps will need to be reinstalled.
But if an app had some of its information on SD card, for example save games, then you can continue using them after flashing and reinstalling application.
Had that thing with Pro Evolution Soccer 2012, reflashed phone more than 10 times, still continued same savegame.

i guess i have no choice but need to reinstall all my apps and games later after reset
the reason that you can continue your save game of pes2012 its because the save file is on the sd card. i think android games from the market doesnt roll that way.
oh well.
okay then,
can you please teach me step by step how to flash the .58 using the wotanserver without having a possibility of my phone getting bricked?
i would really appreciate it. or maybe after that teach me how to unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel

WotanServer is quite safe, you can't mess up anything. Instructions are quite clear, and everything works automatic, you just need to tell the program, which firmware you want. It detects the phone automatically(you need to place it in flash mode, I don't know which button is for Mini Pro), you choose the firmware and it downloads and installs automatically, you just have to wait.
Also, you might need a free account also, further instructions are on the website.

oh yeah i know that but my above posted link is it correct?
and one last question, are u sure if i downgrade to .58 using flashtool will not wipe my data/cache my apps and so on?
if u downgrade to .58, all of your apps installed also wiped. but the data on sdcard will remain, such as game/apps data. what i do is backup apk files to sdcard using super manager. idk if there any other method to make the apps will stay remain after downgrading.

alright, so looks like flashtool works the same as wotanserver because eventually both need to wipe data anyway.
so, what is the best way to downgrade to .58?

i think u should use flashtool, it`s easy to use. but follow the step provided properly. u also can flash via wootanserver but it requires high internet speed because it downloading ftf file through its server. flashtool also requires ftf file that u need to download 1st.

K, the phone is unlocked with custom recovery, rooted, ROMed (Energy/Sense) and put in the faux kernel released this month ( March 2012 ).
There are some apps I still can't remove. These are things I don't use at all. I don't Twitter, for example, so I don't need Twitter Widget. Thing is that I go to Settings | Applications | Manage Applications | Select All tab | Scroll to Twitter Widget
I don't get an enabled uninstall button.
Some other apps that are like this:
Facebook for HTC Sense (I use Google+)
Peep (twitter related)
People (I use Google Contacts)
Picasa Web Albums (I copy my photos to my phone instead of using Picasa)
...
Etc. etc. etc.
Hopefully this isn't too idiotic a question for a thread but my searches have revealed several possibilities and I am not sure what the deal is. The overall implication seems to be that I missed wiping something somewhere or that I need to remove some files manually, or that I need to get an app that uninstalls apps.
Question: Request advice or some idea on which way to jump first?
Jim C.
You cant remove them the way u are trying to because they are system apps.. easiest way to go is to use titanium backup, pro version, which u can use to uninstall or freeze any of your apps. BUT, be careful uninstalling system apps it can lead to other issues or cause ur phone to "misbehave".. this shouldnt be a problem if u remove things like twitter, but no promises... but ya, that is ur easiest way of going about it. Let me know if u have any more questions

Purchase the app Root Explorer. Open it. Navigate to /data/app and you will have your app list. You can also navigate to /system/app and access your system apps.
Long press the apk you don't want and click uninstall or remove (whichever terminology used).
Make sure you delete the right apps though. The ROM is deodexed so you shouldn't have any issues. I removed about a dozen apps this way from Energy ROM

Just go to the sys/app folder and delete the apk for what you want to remove, making sure you don't remove one that has a dependency. Also some roms have an app folder in the root of the zip that has "extra" apk to install, I remove a few from there as well.

Just use winzip(or something like it) and edit the zip before you flash, then in there go to the system/app. then you can reflash over what you have, with any luck you won't lose your data, or what I do is backup just my data and restore that after a rom flash. Root explorer will only work for you on the rom after it's installed, but like I said personally it's easier to remove it before flash using winzip.

If you need it re-opened for any reason, pm me.
So even though I have been s-off since the Panda hit the scene, I think those that have yet to unlock/root might REALLY like to know this.
Basically you can create a back up using ADB on your NON-ROOTED device. Unlock/Root (which we all know will require a factory reset when using HTCDev Unlock) and then with your freshly rooted device, you can restore from the ADB backup you create.
I haven't tried this out yet (just got the update and attached change log) but might try it out just to see. Lucky for me all the devices I support have been Panda *certified but this will be real handy if I have to deal with a un-s-off-able device.

That's one of the very first apps I ever bought, almost 3 years ago. The dev is great. He always responds to emails quickly. I'm glad this was added. I don't need it (yet), but this is definitely a nice feature.
Cool - I wish this had been in the program a few months ago when I did the unlock.
I did the ADB backup/restore manually but this would be a lot easier.

Yeah man, the FIRST and only app I "require" someone purchase if I'm working on a phone is TB. If you never buy another app, TB is the single best investment you can make if you are rooting your phone and this just add more "goodness" to the pile. :good::good:

I was gonna say the same. I noticed one day that TiBu wasn't being granted SU just out of nowhere. I emailed Joel, he emailed me back in less than an hour with exactly the fix. (I think it was 'force system busybox' from TI settings). Guy is awesome.
I'm not sure how you perform adb backup. Would be curious to know.

I recently bought the pro version of this app strictly for this feature. Thus far, I have been unable to get it to work. I've tried two different .ab files both of which have been successfully restored from using UBT. Any suggestions or ideas why TB pro would say the .ab files are invalid?
Thanks!
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
Is your backup file password protected (encrypted) or not?
Also please do (on the device or in a unix shell):
busybox head -n4 MyBackupFile.ab
and please post the result...
hmm. didnt see that. I'll have to give it a try

Another reason this app is the $hit! The dev of this essential app checking boards and popping in to help directly.
I'm about to try this out on a new white EVO LTE so we'll see how easy this goes.
Great news. Would be even greater if we could do it direct to a computer?
Maybe possible by mounting a network share? Would need to find a way to check the backup has worked though.
Or maybe this can be done with adb pull?
My phone went into boot-loop a week or so ago and this feature of TiB saved the day. I could not boot the normal OS to make a backup and had no recent backup. Reflashing my rom and wiping cache & dalvik made no difference. But I made a nandroid from TWRP, factory reset, then was able to restore my txt's from the nandroid using TiB (dialer storage) all right on the device while out to dinner. Damned nice.

Ironically, I'd been using the free version of TB for quite a while... but recently bought Pro because I found it to be so useful...
Did anyone fix the AB issue in titanium backup?
When trying to use this feature, tianium backup is not letting me select the .ab file. The file appears greyed out.
The backup file is encrypted.
I ran "busybox head -n4" on my .ab file and got the following -
ANDROID BACKUP
4
1
AES-256
Any ideas?
Edit: I managed to force select the file using another file manager only to be greeted by a message from titanium backup stating the backup file is either invalid or unsupported.

Thanks for fixing it. It works now. Though I need to use a third party file manager app to select the .ab file.
Does this mean it's somehow possible to backup directly to a PC via USB, instead of backing up to an SD? I have destroyed 2-3 SD so far by heating them up to much while doing long backup/restore
so I have made a twrp backup of the new lollipop OC5 for the sprint note3 stock and it should be rooted if anybody is interested on using this backup here is the link https://www.mediafire.com/?959vjs98swqrdf5 just unzip the folder put it in the twrp backup folder reboot to recovery restore the backup and enjoy. (if this helps you don't forget to hit the thanks button!) PS the file is called (2015-04-11--13-33-08 LRX21V.N900PVPUEOC5)

great i got a stupid question after that....
jus like he did wouldnt i be able to get the update do a factory reset and then do a backup to share or would it still have the info listed too?
The phone is a image of your phone. To do what you want to do. You will have your info stored. Also will get a invalid user Id warning on boot. Will prove a lot of. Issues. I did just flash nk4 wipe from stock recovery. Boot up and it will update fine. But your msl all your sprint id **** in in the backup.

So this is what i did...took the ota whent through the set up and some other things booted to custom recovery wipe data did the backup flash different rom for a day then whent back to recovery flash the backup and had to go through the setup again and there's no personal data...so if anybody wants to give it a shot just let me know if it works for you guys.
If it's activated there's data. Let someone flash. Bet there is ghost files.

ROM is in SYSTEM partition. If you back up only SYSTEM partition you will get ROM. personal data is in DATA partition. MSL and stuff is in EFS. Full nandroid backup can contain all of those, but if you only back up SYSTEM it should be ok.
Make sure you install this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development/efs-samsung-tool-universal-support-t2602325 and backup your EFS in a safe location before trying.

Go use a root Explorer and look under system Etc system csc browsing 3 files in csc I see my phone serial my msl and my sprint email. Sooooo how is that not data. It's in the system. Lollipop is a difference thing altogether. Just trying g to help the mkv not share his info. Or another user mess up there device. But hey to each their own.

lollipop is not different partition-wise, ROM still goes in to System partition. I downloaded zip extracted and looked inside. it has boot, data and system partitions. Data partition is practically empty, the way it should be. EFS backup is not present. System partition has no personal info. It should be ok to flash.
BTW, /system/etc/csc or /system/etc/system/csc does not exists neither in this nor in kitkat ROMs
I see /system/csc/ but nothing personal there and there shouldn't be

Just finished doing restore using this backup - everything looks good - i have phone and data working (with my and not OP's phone number )
The only thing I see is that baseband is still at NK4. It seems to work fine so I can probably wait until OC5 modem is officially posted, unless you know how to backup firmware/modem

No personal info in system partition in general or in those folders in particular. Don't understand your insult about 44 posts. backup seems to work well so far.
So for those who got this backup and are using it do you guys have all the lollipop features but not baseband...then if you guys like it I'm glad to helped !!!!
Amazing.
havent had the time to try this yet, but hearing that it worked for some has convinced me to flash this over the weekend. I agree that it's probable that there are some personal data in there somewhere. I'll have a look at the file table and see whether system has anything interesting. But either way, thanks OP

yes, running this as of yesterday. I had seen few Touchwith crashes, but I am not using Touchwiz so I don't care. Got Native hotspot working using :
GalaxyTools v3.1.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159
got external uSD writable from all apps using this app: FolderMount https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount&hl=en
changed ro.securestorage.support=true to false in /system/build.prop to make sure it keeps wifi passwords unencrypted and does not forget them after reboot.
I'm pretty sure I can use this just to disect it builprop, csc etc to try to port some Roms so thanks @Jairsantana
