Hi there
is there a quick way that i can make my xperia x10 appear bricked broken or not boot up as i have lent my fone to my flat mate and they are reluctant to hand it back i tried disrupting the phone while up installing custom firmware but it still boots
Haha! This is a rather different request that im used to seeing!
Im sure if you use a file manager such as root explorer. Delete the whole system folder. Then the phone wont boot.
Note: this is the answer your looking for, its up to you whether you do it or not. Im not sure if the phone can be repaired using seus afterwards. So do this at your own risk.
Have fun!

Like the other hundred topics about this, use seus and reflash to stock
This is only way?
no, if you make backup you can reflash it, otherwise u must use seus

You can either use:
1. SEUS and reflash the SE official 2.1
2. Use flashtool.
3. If you created a backup using xRecovery, you can restore it.
No backup
You cant brick the x10 just shut down the phone press and hold back button insert usb and.tada you're in flash mode. Your data will be lost but hey phone will work again

Don't u know that X10 is like John Rambo or smthing. Can't be bricked. Just flash.

[SOLVED]
I started the procces to flash in a custom rom, but being very careful, I proceed step by step, reading a lot in the forum.
First I rooted my X10 : I chose Z4root method, because it can be done without a PC, it comes with temporary root and unroot option. I know it work, because I can use apps that require root (easytether for instance).
Then I installed xRecovery. I could boot in xRecovery (though I had to make a couple restart before succeeding) and I made a backup.
Finally I rode a lot on different rom. It took me a long time and many days ellapsed since my xRecovery backup, so when I finally made up my mind, a new backup is required.
And then come my problem : I can't boot in xRecovery anymore.
I know I have to press 'back' several time 'just after SE label'. Well, when I boot my phone I first get a SE label, then an animation and a new SE label (with image logo). I tried to press 'back' many time at both two SE label, then press and hold, even tried the 'home' button. I never boot in xRecovery.
As I am a bit paranoid, I don't let my phone rooted when not required. I reroot everytime I need it. And of course I did it before trying to boot in xRecovery. Could it be that I messed up xRecovery doing this ? I tried to reinstall xRecovery, but obviously it does nothing (I have 'file already exist' message for each of the three 'cp commands).
I feel a bit dumb ending up asking for such a silly problem, but there must be something obvious I miss, and I can't find out what.
Thank you just for reading.
You have to press it a few times right after the very first SE logo appears.
From my X10a running WB CM 6.1.3 V054
Well I still can't boot in xRecovery whatever I do. I press many time 'back' just after first SE label but I get nothing but normal boot. I guess smething is messed up with xRecovery. I'd like to reinstall it, so I first need to have a way of uninstalling it.
Thank you anyway.
Hmm have You checked busybox? Try to uninstall xRecovery and busybox, and do a clean install of these apps. Should work.
Install xRecovery with FlashTool, it's easyer !!
umm reinstall busybox, maybe a different version if you must, and then reinstall xrecovery. tada

You would have to keep root on all the time instead of temporary root.

Yes of course. When I want to use xRecovery, I need a permanent root (that's what I did). I only unroot when done and use temporary root only for tethering.
Thank you for your help.
Busibox. It was obvious. I should have found out myself...
Why wouldn't you just leave the phone rooted? really doesn't make any sense and means you can't use root apps. Rooting your phone does nothing to void your warranty and without the bootloader being unlocked there is nothing you could do to mess it up that couldn't be fixed by simply reflashing.

I am a paranoid Linux User. root sounds dangerous to me. There's no objective reason except that.

I firmly re-assure you, that rooting is NOT dangerous. All you need to do is connect to flashtool and click root. Also, lets say IF you screw up. just download the tft firmware file, no problem. As good as new.

I wouldnt constantly root and unroot because you can be doing more harm than good but whatever its your phone..
I have installed a Custom rom , rooted device, and other Kernel than stock. If I update, what happens? Do you think Sony Ericsson saves the "Changelog"? So If I update they see that I had rooted the device so I won´t get any warranty?

I don't think so. The device internal memory will be fully wiped and everything will be brought to stock, so nothing should be left. To make sure You could format system, data etc.

Thanks for response, but before the telephone stats and memory is wiped, the intiallization process begins. So I am quite not sure.. I mean they could send the Changelog directly to SE, so no matter if I wiped they saw I had an Custom Rom-
I think they know of your custom rom even without a changelog(even without plugin it in)

Se would not track a logcat (not even sure if theyd track anything when using seus) just dont send em a rooted phone with cm7 on it or something & youll b right

i have to agree with negrobembon, if they wanna know if u've rooted u're device they won't be waiting for u to connect it... there's nothing to be afraid of just format ur card and everything will be fine
Not if I delete Tel sys infos.. I just wanted to know if they sent a log while updating... But anyway thanks

Hiya guys,
I use XDA Developers a lot but it seems that I have f***ed up my phone. I wanted to go back to stock rom from CM 7.2, but Sony PC Companion didn't recongize my phone, so I decided to do it manually. While trying to do it, on flash tools I clicked on the wrong kernel and re-locked the boot loader without getting rid of CM7.
Now... here is the problem. I have tried to restore the phone via Sony PC Companion but it says something about no updates for my phone even though I clicked on repair, but it also doesn't recognize it as a X10i (just says Sony / Sony Ericsson phone). And I tried to fix it using Flashtools (different versions) but it still doesn't work...
Anyone able to help me. I would really really be grateful as I am using a O2 XDA Steller at the moment and its proper sh*t :S
I had the same problem, so I did RESTORE in my RECOVERY and then everything worked out. and I flashed different kernels to use recoveries to see where was my backup

Hi guys,
I rooted my xperia u today, and removed a lot of bloatware (I tought).. Now my phones keeps restarting every 4/5 minutes.. It looks like it works fine but then I get the xperia logo..
I didn't back up any of the apk's, pretty stupid I gues..
Is there any way to restore everything? Flash it with new ROM or something like that?
Thanks in advance!
You should get a backup everytime before removing any system related items from phone. Also don't try to remove apps you think as bloatware as if some of them are required for phone's normal operation.
Flash a stock ftf with flashtool and perform a root again.

Okay, think I'm very lucky.. Phone stopped restarting on his own.. All I did was removing ZDbox but don't think it has anything to do with it.. Anyway, thanks for your reply mate!
