I have just noticed that the HTC evo 3D specifications have appeared on the htc.com/uk website and on the htc.com/www website and in the 'It's all in the details' Part of the specification it says quote
"A new and improved camera and full HD camcorder with zero shutter lag and stereo sound recording so you can always capture that timeless moment"
So maybe the UK release will support 1080p recording as the US Sprint release said it would but sadly was said to be a typo. What makes me more certain of this is that it says 'A new and improved..' and is on HTC's official website
Hopefully this is correct and the UK release will get the FULL HD 1080p 2D camcorder so i can be cetain of what phone im getting
But the only thing is that the camera specs say "Record 2D/3D videos with up to 720p resolution", but is this only referring to the 3D or both? And if it where both surely HTC would not make a typo in putting FULL HD recording in the "It's all in the details" part of the specification?

He means the hardware of the 3d supports 1080p recording and that the limitation is software related now.

Yep that's what i meant...check out the sensations camera software compared to 3d's ours is older..
Maybe they were able to get the software bugs out for the gsm launch

Go check out our release information on HTC website..were missing features on our phone that it clearly states..Example:look at our camera options on their website.Says were suppose to have "scene" options for our camera(action scene, panorama etc..).Features that are just not there in our software.

In all reality, its going to be simple to have those features when we get a hold of the apk containing these features.

Quick question for those who have already got the 3D:
Is it possible to view 3D photos taken using the phone in a non-3D enabled desktop/laptop, say with the help of passive (red/blue) glasses? If possible, have you tried it? How is the image quality?
TIA.

I read somewhere that it is possible. Using the latest Nvidia driver, 3d glasses, and something else I cant remember. Look into it.
That's a bummer. Can we at least see the photos in 3d enabled laptops/monitors? If we are confined to only the phone, that's a definite negative.
You can upload them to image hosting sites or convert them yourself to view in 2D, but I don't see being able to see them in 3D on a non-3D monitor...kinda why companies sell 3D monitors/tvs
Like dude a few posts up said , look into the NVIDIA 3d conversion thing

Can we get this ported to the 3d and if we do, will it make the pictures comparable?
I've been trying all day. It installs but the 3D can't be turned off and you can't take a photo. Has HDR and Panorama though

Yes it will make it comparable because camera apps control the quality of the camera.

It's been talked about many times that the reasons our pics aren't as good as they could be is software related . So with my very limited knowledge on the subject I think it would be in the telnet of possibilities.

False. I have been using it since it released and is incredible. I'm using the stand alone apk now so I can use both camera apps just in case. You may have to use the lower resolution version though, some people experience crashes using one version in 3D mode. As if 1 of the cameras is smaller than advertised.

The amaze camera is an attempt to port the camera from the htc amaze. It utilizes zero shutter lag to use burst mode, smart shot, and a few more features. However, zero shutter lag has to be enabled in the kernel and rom, which hasn't been done yet. It does offer some interface changes but nothing too major.
The reason I use it is for having no compression on the photos. They probably compressed the pics to save storage space, but we really don't need to worry about that as much as we did on dumb phones. Less or no compression means a sharper image and more accurate color. They also increased the bitrate for video, which is less compression. I also noticed that the white balance was more accurate than the stock camera at the time. But htc fixed that since then (remember green pics? Amaze camera didn't do that).

I have a Leedroid build on my phone but recently I am suspecting yet a new hardware problem on my phone. The cam have green lines on it attached photo. Yeah don't I look cute, but that aside. The next day it is fine again. Could it be just the rom or is it what I suspect a hardware failure... And it effects both front and back camera

Welcome to the Matrix.
You could try a different rom just to make sure it is hardware related.

It looks like some sort of camera failure to me. Seen some weird cams on the 3d coming back to the techs at Sprint where I worked.
Must have replaced at least 4 or 5 evo 3d cams with similar lines, colors. Does the actual display of cam look messed up or just the after shot it created? If it's both, hardware 100%
Try other roms?
Both :-\ but the weird part is that it seems tobe both front and back cam... And it is periodic ^_^ so I really can't tell whether it is hardware or software. Anyway I guess since it is a rooted phone they will blame software as they usually does. I can't understand why there is a warranty void if you root the phone.

Sprint doesn't care about root, but you are obviously GSM and on a different carrier, so you could unroot it before taking it in and play stupid. "What's this root people are talking about? "
Sent from my ICS 3VO with Tapatalk 2
Had this happen with another non HTC device... got it replace, happen to be hardware related.
I will send it fully rooted and make them prove that it is the software on the phone that has really done the damage. The burden of proving that the software has made these errors are on the company not the owner. Long shot but worth it, and maybe it will help others. Blaming software for everything wrong with the phone is getting retarded.

I have seen a couple of videos on here where they were recorded in slow motion and those videos looked great, however, I have tried a few times and they always come out looking really bad. (grainy, and blurry). I have tried with all the settings left on auto and also setting things up manually as well (like white balance and ISO).
Is there settings that I am missing to make these videos look as good as they do while recording at normal speed?
Here is the link to the video I shot:

Also does the camera not record in HD while doing Slow Motion?
I can't help you on making it look better but it doesn't record in HD. The ending resolution ends up being 768 x 432.

It's probably the light. I think the only reason it goes to HD on the youtube video is because the beginning part might be in HD. I still see the grainy lines on the youtube video and in the slow motion videos I shoot.

I think it's HD on YouTube because the user had to edit it on the computer. (Add music) so I think he saved it in a way that YouTube thought it was HD.
I've noticed that I have to edit files in order for YouTube to have a HD option even though the phone records in HD and saves it as a .MP4.

There is a camera setting. If you touch the "A" you will see the option
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G LTE
Yeah, the camera does not do HD for slow motion, due to the significantly higher data rates the camera must sustain to do slow motion. It's essentially recording at 120fps or so, which is four times the speed it would record at otherwise. To record in HD, it would require four times the bandwidth and processing power that it does at normal speed.
I've had this phone since it came out and never knew it has that setting.
What is "HDR"?

There are other phones using android that CAN do slow motion HD recording. I assume that this is a software limitation on HTC's part rather than a hardware limitation as the camera on this phone is quite impressive to say the least. Even with my limited knowledge of the inner workings of the android software I would venture to guess that this can at least be brought to 720p slow motion recording. However a speedier SD card may be needed. Man I wish I knew how to dig into Android, I want this camera to be BEAST!
