how to set apps beeing installed at first boot.. - Android

heyy,
i am playing with cyanogen mod..
how can i make the rom to install apps on first boot ?
put it to the other apps ?
Thanks in advance

Correct me if I'm wrong, I probably am because I have just begun with this, put the app's .apk in the system/app folder before repackaging. I'd be pleased if I'm right since I haven't been doing this long at all. Just got all my resources set up finally

Custom boot animation

Hey guys,
I'm so sorry if this is a topic which has been resolved before but I am kinda new at all this (this is my first post) , I was on YouTube and came across some videos of how to apply custom boot animation on an HTC desire WITHOUT ROOT.
I didn't fully understand the procedure and was wondering if this is possible on an un-rooted wildfire as well. And if yes, then how?
I am currently running the official android 2.2.1 update, obviously without ROOT.
Thanks in advance

Right, I would also love to know.
After searching about on Astro I found the picture files for the boot animation. There was also a very short script. I worked out which bit told the device the screen resolution and fps but the rest was gobbledy gook
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Sorry accidently pressed send too soon...
....to me. The filepath to the folder was:
\system\customize\resource\bootanimation.zip
Can't access it? Try downloading Astro file manager from the Market.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Alright, i have access to the folder, now what?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
do u have write permission on that folder???
If so, then you have to replace the bootanimation.zip with the bootanimation u want..
You can find the custom bootanimation in the same forum..
So basically, I access the folder with boot animation, and replace it with the custom boot animation i want right? This is all through the computer right?
I'm so sorry if I'm asking obvious stuff but I'm new at all this
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
yeah thats right... have you rooted the phone???
You cannot modify the system folder without root. I wasn't even aware that it was possible to change bootanimation without root. Ill check that video out and try to help you.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Alright. The video showed a Droid incredible and the person used a Mac and entered some code into the terminal, that is basically command prompt on windows.
So yeah check it out and see if you understand it.
Thanks in advance

You need root access to change the system zip I showed earlier. Put the animation in separate folders in the zip folder eg:
HTC
TMOB
I recommend you use a simple name for the folder.
Then you need to rename the image files to:
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0001
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0002
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0003
Etc...
This isn't essential but is good practice. You must include the 0001 at the end though so the animation images are in the right order.
REMEMBER THOSE SPECS ARE FOR HTC BUZZ WILDFIRE.
Now you need to edit the desc.txt script.
***FROM HERE ON I AM NOT 100% SURE AND DO NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE***
desc.txt:
240 320 15
p
p
Now I figured what the top line is; resolution and fps. But the lines with p on confuse me. They have some numbers after and the the folder name.
Will update later when I find out.
Hope this helps.

Please thank if you found this helpful.

[[UPDATE:]]
Right guys, I think I found out somit...
First I need to correct a mistake from earlier, when I said to rename the pic files, it seems you need to start from 0000 not 0001:
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0000
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0001
Foldername_240x320_15fps_0002
Next, I'd like to say what I found out about the desc.txt file.
Mine looks like this...
240 320 15
p 1 45 android
p 1 1 TMI
I explained the first line earlier. Now look where it says "p 1 45 android".
The p is absolutely necessary, I don't know what it stands for, maybe play?
The "1 45" were the question. I think they tell the phone how many frames there are. But the thing that confused me is that the android folder has 1 file and the TMO folder has 45. But the script says the opposite. Can you make any sense of this?
And last but not least, the "android" at the end of the line is the name of the folders holding the different animations.
Did that make sense?
Alright, thanks man
Will try it out in a few days, got exams

Good luck with those. I think I'm on to something with the script... will update previous post shortly.

Oh, how are you going to try it out when you are running 2.2.1 and don't have root access? I did mention you need root access to modify bootanimation.zip as it is a system folder
I know its annoying.... i'm just starting to get the full grips of all this rooting malarky a couple of months ago and guess what I did before I knew about not being able to root Android 2.2.1.... yes I updated
So now I cant test any of my new ROM's, Hacks and Tweaks until unrEVOked get a move on
I will try and make a website with help on in the future as I am now making quite a few tweaks and people need to know this stuff! Will post full instructions for bootanimation tweak in the coming future....
Good Luck to anyone who does try anything!

Yeah, even I didnt know that the official 2.2.1 for wildfire for not rootable I got an alert for the official update and installed immediately without any research.
So yeah im stuck too
Anyways thanks for the reply

Arc Software needs certain things that non-lg roms don't have. Therefore you can't install it.

The ArcSoft package contains the ArcSoft folder from /system/3rd_party and some libs in /system/lib (like libarc???.so). No luck for me too, maybe some more files missing. If anyone could do, I would be really thankful to him

I think there's something in the framework of stock roms it relies on, I can get it to install and load (after some nasty hacks), but it seems unable to actually function (Log just spits out "Application already in focus ignoring..." )
... But don't think I've given up, this is one of the few items on my "wish list" for SwiftDroid

Can you elaborate a bit further? -- It was easy enough to "hack" the apk to allow it to install, and it loads up... just kinda doesn't actually do it's thing. (log is no help here sadly)

I think the .so files in the lib folder lets you install some apps and games depending on the Install Codes in the .so files, apps and the Games

The arc files are in random Locations and i think you need to get the LG GT540's Package Installer from /system/app/package installer.apk the permissions for the apk are
Owner R/W
Group R
Others R
I hope this helps ;D

Except that it isn't, because you have to disable the currently installed Swype in order to install the new one. You can't do that without deleting it, which in turn requires that you be rooted.

Which if you would have read his post you would see that he said his phone is rooted. all he would need to do is delete or rename the swype apk.

I did read his post. I also read your post. I actually comprehended both of them. My reply was intended to point out that you do, in fact, have to delete the old before you bring in the new, which was entirely missing from your concise list of rock 'n roll.
Questions been answered. Can we please move on
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
Oh, just for anyone else doing this you also need to delete libSwypeCore.so from /system.lib
I used root explorer to do this. Swype forceclosed on me when I did a reboot but had not deleted the libswypecore so I'm hoping this was the problem.

Chrome apks

Here are some apks that change the icons on your home screen and your app drawer.
Thanks to Pfaffinator for the icons.
1 go to system/ app and copy your entire app file then place it on an sd card for backup if you want to revert back to your original icons.
2 copy these new apks to system/ app. Your phone will ask if you want to replace your old apk with the new one...tap yes then profit.
3 I do not know how to make a zip file yet as I am still learning.
4 I will add more as I theme more icons.
5 DISLAIMER : I am not responsible for your phone if something goes wrong.

If you flash super Jelly, use the super Jelly updater to download a blank zip. You then use an archive manager like 7zip or winrar to place the apk's in the system/app folder. I think it has to be signed for JB, not sure how to do that tho.
Thanks for sharing tho. If these are someone else's work can you give them credit? If this is your work, nice job!
Edit: saw you said you were theming the icons. Sorry if I offended by suggesting this was another person's work

Sorry my mistake. I didn't make the icons. I put them in the apks to use with our phones. Thank you for making me aware that I needed to do that.

Pull the apks modified. Either adb pull system > w/e.apk. or do it via phone via a root powered file explore. Place the apks on your sdcard. Mount the device place on your computer. That download a theme or a mod zip. And archive into that make your changes etc flash to test then release as a theme. Message me about if you already haven't ill get to you as soon as I can.

Did it force close once or does it work correctly now? If it doesn't work correctly and you made a backup on your SD card of your original APks you can just pull the NFC apk only and put it back in system app.

I downloaded the YouTube file went to es file explorer copied the apk went to system/apps pasted it then it asked me if I wanted to overwrite I pressed yes it said it was installed successfully but when I go to my app drawer nothing changes...any help would be appreciated Tia
Edit: nevermind after I rebooted it changed..you should put that you need to reboot in the instructions so less educated people like me know that..thanks for these they are sweet and go with my chrome theme!

Widgets are stored in the apk they are for.
So unless you downloaded just a widget (which is still an apk) they are embedded in an app.
A lot of manufacturer launchers include their own which can't be used on another launcher or ROM.
So you probably want one in the LGhome app.
If not, check which apps you no longer have.
FYI: Included stock widgets are found in /system/app/. You can download a rom to your computer, extract the widgets you want, put them on your sd card, then copy them to your current rom (putting them in /system/app/), set permissions, and finally reboot.
