I've had the 3VO for a week now and it's great. I'm coming off of an EVO, and I'm noticing that the Swype keyboard is a little different.
I've seen some posts from other people mentioning the same thing, but I have a specific question.
Does anyone else coming off of the old EVO find that this new Swype keyboard is very inaccurate? It seems to always recommend some crazy ass words.
Anyone have any advice on the slider setting for the word choice window and the speed vs. accuracy? I've been messing with them, but haven't seen any improvement.
I tried using the stock keyboard, and I don't like it.
How did the newer version of the keyboard get so much worse? Also, why can't you hide the stupid language button? It shouldn't be on the keyboard.
Sorry for the rant, but I love this phone and just a little frustrated with the keyboard.
I'm pretty sure the problem with it is that this is the older version of Swype like we had on our OG EVO until they OTA updated them with the newer version of Swype. I agree, after using the newer version, I can't stand this one. Hopefully, they'll update us with a newer version as they did on the OG EVO.

Personally I think someone should be shot for implementing this. To many options are never good. I always hit it at the wrong time, and then you have to scroll through like 598 languages just to get back. Sucks. How many purple people actually use it? I'm guessing about .008% of the people that use swype. Cmon swype devs...remove it please.

The Evo 3d comes with Swype 2.5 which seems to suck in every way. If you root your phone, you can uninstall it using Ti Backup and then install Swype 3.0 beta. 3.0 is so much better it almost doesn't even seem like the same keyboard. Swypeinc.com
Rogers EVO did not come with Swype
Beta 3.## works awesome tho
Language button position is perfect for me, because I switch from French to English all the time
Does anyone else have an issue double tapping to select a word with Swype 3? I've installed it twice and always come back to 2.5 because it irritates me too much.
I've always hated Swype, but I was willing to give it another shot after seeing that it was preinstalled on my phone. The version on the 3D made my feelings even worse. It was one of the first things I removed after rooting my phone.

Just wondering if there is yet a way to install a better version of swype without being rooted yet, as I'm on the 1.5 h boot.I'm just starting to use swype and seeing its advantages but need something a little taller on the screen and possibly a different theme lol. Also certain things like the friend stream widget just do not wOrk with swype. This is by far the best keyboard available however the combo of the evo 3d and it seems to not be the best lol.

Has anyone found a working version of Swype that works with qHD screens?
EDIT: Sorry I meant to post this in the HTC Vivid forum.
i have shape writer i haven't tried it yet
but its attached
Swype has support for qHD already, I believe. Not that anything involving qHD would help you with the Rezound since it's 720p lol.
Edit: Oops lol didn't notice your edit. But still, it should have qHD support.

The current version from their website works fine on my Rezound, just has that annoying bug where you click oh the end of a sentence to put punctuation or continue typing after fixing something, and it selects the whole word.

I am using swype from the download link i had through the beta for my incredible and it works wonderfully. First thing i did with the phone.
I too am using the beta I had with my Dinc, however I found that I can't swype as fast on the RZ as I could on the Dinc, if I do it loses the traces and uses whatever letters it ran over to guess a word. Kind of weird, so I've just learned to slow my swyping speed down a little bit, no biggie.
Just download it from the Swype website. Works great!
I am also just using the Swype beta from their website. I have also noticed slight stutter when swyping like rbobby pointed out. It seems like it loses the trace halfway through and swype thinks it is two words.
Good its not me. I kept thinking I had something on my screen or finger.
Curious, for those who are also seeing the skip and didnt before. Do you have a screen protector now? Did you on your last phone?
Its the only thing I can think of because plain glass just feels "sticky" to me.
Do any of you think the "trace" functionality of the stock HTC keyboard measures up to Swype?
Used it on my TB, spell prediction to me isnt as good as swype.

I tried it for one day and wanted to commit sepoku.

I put a screen protector on my RZ today. Didnt help swype at all, so its definitley not an issue with skin sticking on the glass.
Which means either it cant keep up with swype ( ) or maybe the screen isnt as responsive as it should be.
Anyone know of any apps to test if there are bad areas on the screen?
I downloaded it from the Swype website and it works great! I am definitely a Swyper for life!
I noticed this as well. I don't think its the screen sensitivity since no other apps have problems scrolling. Not sure what it is, might play with the settings some in swype for sensitivity. Wonder if the screen resolution has anything to do with it.

I think it works well. I have had to add a few words to the dictionary, mainly bad ones, but otherwise I think it is good. I like the OEM look. That is why I use it over swype or something.

This happens to every single rezound, around the keys in the middle of the keyboard.
It's a Swype bug.
They know about it. It's all over the Swype forums.
I'm waiting patiently, and swyping SUPER SLOW until then. really annoying!
HTC Trace is nowhere near as fast/accurate, but still works. Strangely, you can't trace in a lot of things (like website URL's, searching for things, etc etc. Only messages and a handful of other places).
Swype hasn't worked for me from there site, can someone toss a link my way thanks Davey

Thanks, I hadn't heard about this. The only trouble I've had is Swyping in landscape mode. Maybe I'm just not a fast Swyper!
I'm having problems with Swype too ... sometimes losing "track" of my finger and outputting 2 words instead of my intended word.
I'm curious if the resolution is causing problems for Swype since this is the first 720 resolution phone?
And when you say it is all over the Swype forums...where? I'm looking and I haven't found one post that remotely mentions a problem like this.
It appears that many MoPho users love Swiftkey X. I love it too but the one thing it is missing that prevents it from being a perfect 10 in my book is the ability to create custom shortcuts (ie. icub = "I'll call you back", sul = "see you later", etc.).
If you would like to see this feature and others added to Swiftkey, please cast your votes here!
I've used Swiftkey X in the past, and have not liked it. Maybe it's been improved and I'll give it another try. My keyboard of choice is the ICS Keyboard. I love it, and the autocorrect is so accurate!
Swiftkey is good but I completely ditched it when I tried thumb keyboard. I will never use another...
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
Does thumb keyboard and ICS keyboard support custom shortcuts/ autotext?
I like Swype. But it has given me quite a few text where I need to double take on since I don't proof read ... Let me mind you this is only started happening since using the beta.
Example I dressed as Santa for a friends kids.. Later on that Nite the grand mother asked me to put the suit back on so she and a friend could take a bunch of photos so they could use them for next years post cards...
So my friend Jon shoots me a text the next day saying thanks for dressing up fire the kids.. So I text back that I put the suit back on for some photos.. For post cards but instead of post cards Swype insists I am writing *****...
That took a little explaining.. True story.. Also all of this was written with Swype and not once did it mistake a clearly written post for *****.. Damn Swype and its learning...
^^ One word... WOW! ^^
Since I dropped swift x I haven't had any keyboard lockups... I won't try it again until the next OS release.

Smart Keyboard Pro caused lockups for me and SwiftKey caused lockups for you; I guess picking the right keyboard is really important, huh?
Which keyboard are you currently using and do you like it?
I've been using A.I.Type Keyboard and I really like it. The only problem is it can't keep up with my typing speed and bogs down sometimes. However, no "lockups". Thankfully!
I have used swype (even the new update) and Still can't beat my Swiftkey X, I've tried many and I always go back to Swiftkey X.. Yes I just Love it, it reads my mind, predicts my next word 80% of the time..

If Swiftkey X allowed you to create your own shortcuts/autotext, would you find that feature useful? If so, please let them know here. Not having this feature currently makes this keyboard unusable for me.

I don't really use the feature you mentioned, the app is just so fast that you don't really need it. but just as a favor to the people that would like it I gave your suggestion 3 votes.

Thanks, my friend!
Words
I used Swiftkey X on my Evo 4G. Loved it. On my Photon since the screen is a hair smaller I have had a few problems adjusting.
Seriously though. Swift key is fast enough that I can type words. Sentences even.
I have to say I truly hate what is happening to language because of texting.
I was wondering if this is how big the swype beta keyboard was suppose to look.. On my dinc it looked a lot bigger..
Thanks!
That's what mine looks like....what seems to be the concern?
It just... It seems so little!
maybe it's because the Rezounds screen is so BIG
Probably well thanks for the quick reply
Swype doesn't yet recognize the build.prop of the ICS ROMs for Rezound, since it's not actually released yet.
Just install an apk from somewhere. If you're signed up for the beta, I can't imagine how this is a violation of terms.
I use the one from the GNEX forums that is made up for ICS. The only odd thing about it is the extra space on the sides in landscape (it's there because the GNEX has those home/back/whatever buttons always at the bottom of the screen)
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/12/22/swype-now-working-on-galaxy-nexus-thanks-to-modders/
Swype still seems to have the touch-break issue if you swype quickly. Swype is not planning on fixing this issue. They think it's related to the refresh of our screen, and how Swype doesn't account for it (since our refresh rate/resolution is rare). They don't imagine spending any time fixing that.
Guess I must not swype fast enough - I've never seen any problems with it
(had to google touch break to figure out what it was)
The only 'problem' I've run in to with Swype was just after the first install of it...but this is how I fix it

That's ridiculous. Thanks for the information though, I wonder if we could fix it ourselves? And by we i mean a talented modder of course lol
Swype works fine on my rezound, and at normal size. I am using an old/previous version of Swype. Do a Google search and you should find it.
guess I'm not sure what the 'normal' size of swype is supposed to be then
*confused*
I can't stand the stock ICS keyboard that takes up 2/3 of the screen this is perfect

Anyone have this apk? The link in the post referenced is no longer active. Still searching the web for it, but thought I'd ask in case anyone has it. Trying to get Swype working on ICS.
Ok, huge android fan here, been thru several android phones. I find that on this phone, text input is not accurate at all and is quite slow.. No matter what keyboard I use. I never felt like this on anything other android device. Is it just me?
Its my biggest complaint. Text entry i a total pain. I thought maybe its the tapered glass, but the s3 had it too, and I had no issues using the same keyboards.
Please chime in

honestly, I haven't noticed an issue except for typical wrong predictions when I butcher the spelling really bad
/high school education problems
No problems here. Fast and accurate typing on just about Ny keyboard.

The stock keyboard w/ Sense sucks, but you seem to be having a different issue.
I use SwiftKey and have not had any issues at all.
perhaps ill try swiftkey. I cant imagine it being a software issue. Ive tried the sense keyboard and also the ICS keyboard and my typing is just totally innaccurate for some reason. Never had this problem on any other phone. Thanks for the input fellas

Swiftkey for the win. I picked up a DNA last night, and to be honest only used the stock keyboard long enough to get my back restored. No issues with Swiftkey on it.
I'll chime in here with Swiftkey also. I have been using that since release and never looked back. So far I am enjoying swiftkey flow even though I was never a swype fan. Flow's word predictions are excellent.
I've been using Swype since it came out and it was one of the first things I installed on my DNA, No problems here at all.
using swiftkey flow/swiftkey, no issues since day 1. you should make sure your not pressing the screen with another part of your hand/fingers as the screen goes right to the edge of the phone, sometimes i find when im watching a video the side of my finger might touch the screen and pause it. You might not be used to a phone with such a small bezel.
Just got my DNA, and I have no trouble typing at all.
you know what? for the last two years, ive swore by the GB/ICS/JB keyboards as they were nice looking and very accurate. To me they suck on this phone, maybe its me, maybe its the screen size, idk, but I will say this, I used swiftkey before and wasnt really a fan,
BUT
i just put it on my DNA and it has solved my woes! Thanks for the input guys.
Silly question, but have you done the touchscreen calibration? Settings -> Language & keyboard -> HTC Sense Input -> Advanced -> Calibration Tool.
Not a single issue for me. Especially coming from a GS3. I can type rather fast on this keyboard lol
