Cant get into download - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey I flashed MIUI and couldnt get into Odin using the three button method. I flashed CM7 over it and I still cant get into download. Ive been able to before from MIUI and CM7, anyone got any ideas on how I can get into download mode? AIO vibrant tool box doesnt work either, just makes the phone reboot.

open odin, remove battery, plug in the usb to phone and pc, press and hold volume up volume down, insert battery, hope that works.

Tried that but doesn't work either

Up + USB means you've flashed the gb bootloaders.

Problem with 3 button download mode

I have a Vibrant that was hardware locked. I was able to correct it using the Odin
fix created by Untermensch. It was working fine when I did it back in Dec. Since then anytime I need to get into Download mode I always hold the Vol. up\down and plug in the USB. I was wanting to try out the CM7 ROM so I wanted to make sure I could still use the 3 button combo. Every time I try to do it to get into download mode it always goes into Recovery instead. I can still get into D\L mode the other ways but not with the 3 button combo. Is there anything I can do to fix this or am I screwed. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes. Get all your files and everything set up in odin (assuming that it was you are trying to do)
1. Pull battery out
2. Hold down volume up/down
3. Plug usb in (still holding volume up/down)
4. Put battery back in
5. Should be in download mode now
Good luck

I don't think so. The okay is the power button..... At least on the Vibrant. On other phones it's the okay or enter button on the keyboard but never the home or back buttons. As a matter of fact the back button does what it's supposed to. Just my 2 cents.

The OP might be screwed at this point. Unless you can remap the keys in recovery?

Dude, did you not read his entire post or do you just not understand ebonics?
HIS POWER BUTTON IS GONE!!! If you have ever flashed a rom before with clockworkmod, you would know that the "Power" button is the Ok button, which he doesn't have anymore.

Have you done anything to the file systems? Do you think it will still boot with just a hard reset? You can reset if its been rooted with adb. Do you have the sdk installed on your computer? If not, install the android sdk from the code.google site, and find an adb tutorial on this forum with the search tool..

I can 100% fix this for you. I have a few extra buttons in stock. If you send me the phone, I can solder you on a brand new one. You are not screwed...
Just PM me if you are interested....

"Quickboot" app on rooted GB X2. OK to use?

I used to use this app on my old phone (Rooted/ROM'd LG Ally). Would there be any issues with it on my new X2? I'm running Eclipse 0.1 with the custom recovery installed. I've hit the "Reboot" button and that works fine. I'm afraid to hit the "Recovery" button.
Why not try it and see? I don't think booting into recovery is going to harm you phone at all. It may just reboot and not enter recovery if that command is intended for CMR or it may enter Bootstrap Recovery. It's really hard to say because I have not used the program myself. No harm in trying. If something does go wrong just pull your battery.
yea you can use it. i use it all the time. if you download the app and go into settings, you can choose wich boots you can choose. by this i mean you can opt to take out the recovery option from the menu when you open the app.
Tried it out and it boots it to stock recovery but not the custom one. Thanks for the responses.

Good idea. Just tried it and still boots to stock recovery. I found a widget on the market that's working out for me. Its just a simple reboot button.

I think it's rather silly that the stock power button options do not include reboot. I mean, it has sleep for crying out loud.

there is no wrong version really im thinking you have an i9000 bootloader instead of a vibrant
Thank you for your help, definately appreciated. I tried flashing the Neo 16 r2 zip w/ led notifications. First boot smooth, on reboot lost baseband so I flashed in kb5 reboot couldn't get data only roaming. So restored, cleaned kernel script with lippo94s kernel script cleaner, installed kernel w/ led. On first boot now have fingers crossed for next reboot.
Any luck i had a similar problem with neo 16r2 but it also rebinded my home key to back and my back key to home and the volume rocker was reversed
UPDATE: never mind used lippos94s script cleaner and neo16r2 w/ led notif and everything is working fine no head phone icon and all keys are mapped normal

Would be quite unlikely to hardbrick from recovery flash, especiallybif you flash right stuff for S3....can you get to download mode, even if you cannot, try download mode combo and plug phone to odin, does it wreckingnize it? Does phone show something (galaxy s3 bootscreen) or screen stays compleetely black?

Screen is completely black and will not start using (Volume - + Home Button + On/Off), does not appear on my computer when connected, does not appear on Odin.

A usb jig will help you if you can get your hands on one.

I live in a rural area and I dont know what a usb jig is or how its used.
This phone cost more than the moon and the stars!!!! How am i ever going to fix this!!!!????
Have you tried taking the battery out and putting it back in? I had a similar issue with my note 2. I flash something and it was just a black screen. Power button, home button, and volume button did nothing for me. I took out the battery and put it back in and I saw the samsung splash screen and went back to the black screen. So I had to take the battery out, hold down the volume, home, and power button and push the battery in. It was a pain to do. Having a second person may make it easier. But give that a go.
