Vibrate feature a little to weak? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it just me or the vibrate function on the SGS2 is VERY VERY weak even at max vibration level ?

lol. I think its only you. The vibrate on my GS II is so long and strong, its annoying.
Every whatsapp or gg talk or email, there is a loooong notification vibration.
I wish someone could find a solution to shorten this vibration. Hopefully with the introduction of AOSP roms.

The most annoying thing with vibration in SGS2 is this strange sound. Bzzz... Strange.

SMS notification vibrate is pretty weak and its just like a 1 time vibrate, wish they had some vibration pattern choices.

I share same feelings, considering phone in my pocket sometimes I cant feel it vibrate at all.
More annoying thing is the pouch case (suncase) Ive recently purchased, it doesnt have an opening for speaker at bottom, which mutes the ringing sound in 90% and somewhat it reduces vibration effect.
At busy street = no sound, little vibration = I usually end up with 10+ missed calls per day :/

When the phone is in my pocket and Im walking, there is ZERO chance for me to know if anyone sent me a message, they would have to call me.. They need to make the vibrate of the phone about 2-3x stronger and 3x longer or have different profiles vibrate.

Oh yeah, I don't feel the phone vibrate too. There are three annoying things about this phone and the weak vibration is the third.
1. Pathetic battery life
2. Home button delay
3. Weak vibration

All 3 (for me anyway) aren't true.
Battery has lasted me 20 hours from full charge with medium usage and I'm now at 16% and that's pretty damn good from my previous phones.
Home button is very quick
My phone vibrates so strong, I'm pretty sure it could buzz its way through a tree.

For the sms notification, you can always use handcent. Its a replacement app for the sms app. It usually has good reviews and u can set the vibration.

+1 actually find the vibration quite invasive/annoying. And thats on halfway setting
As for the battery, i have no problems, neither does my fiance , who also has sgs2.
Only time ive experienced home button delay was when i had a lockscreen replacement installed.

I am unlucky on this, I have just realised that vibration does not work on my device, neither the haptic feedback! I went to test menu *#0*# and chose vibrate but it does not work I made a small research on the net and it seems that I am not the only one, many users are having this problem. I hope it's not a hardware problem.
Edit: İ am now dissapointed because when İ go to vibra motor test mode by dialing *#0842# the vibration does not work here neither or with *#7353# menu.
Any ideas?

I guess my nerves always needed stronger stimulation, but vibration in my unit doesnt even tickle... unless I'm owning faulty device.
I cant imagine hearing/feeling msg at concert, when there is so much vibes and noise around me.

Hmm, been at a cpl of concerts lately, and noticed all the texts.saying that...i do text alot, so maybe im actually more alert to it? Dunno
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App

the vibration intensity option in the settings is for the haptic feedback vibration. it has nothing to do with call/text vibration.
i also find the vibration extremely weak on my phone. i miss most of my alerts even when I'm sitting at my office with the phone in my pocket

Well having it at the front pocket may make a difference as compared to having it on your side pockets or when your wearing jeans and walking/moving.

Flip for Speakerphone Working?

Can't get it to work and it is checked on in settings. Is there a trick to it? I've tried face down and face up and only while on outgoing call that is still ringing, not during a connected call. Is that the problem? That would seem weird to me.
Also, when I first started researching phones, one of the first ones I looked at had a feature that when you got a call if you turned it over it would silence the ringer. I have a feeling it was the Moto Droid though. Anyone know if there's an app to do that on the RZD or if I'm mistaken and it has that feature?
From my understanding, u must be in "normal" sound profile for flip speaker to work. Also the ringer does go silent* when u pick it up.
*maybe not silent, but ringer does get alot lower
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
It's in normal.
I haven't noticed that with the ringing but I'm thinking more of a silence the phone and ignore it sort of situation. Like if I'm at work or with a friend and the phone rings I can just turn it over and it will stop.
Mine works. I accidently got it to work actually. Sat the phone down while talking to someone then all of a sudden they got loud. Everytime I have tried it sense it has work.
was one of the first things I discovered on my rezound, and I love it. I use it quite often actually haha. There is a setting in the menu to enable or disable it, as well as the silence if you move the phone while it's ringing.
Settings > Sound settings under incoming calls
I used to have these extra settings checked, but i read somewhere that it drains the battery faster. Maybe the sensors detecting the orientation of the phone causes some battery drain, but im not positive about that.
It works really well on mine. If there's a battery issue, maybe you want to check what power settings you're in. I keep mine in performance, since that also seems to cause less problems with 4G turning off. Also check if your sensors are working, maybe with a tilt game or something similar. I've had it on the whole time and it doesn't seem like I get less battery life than what people report, at least not obviously.
Just tested this out, and it seems like the speaker phone flip and silence ringer flip only work when the phone is on a flat surface. The phone lowers the volume of the ring when you pick it up, but mutes it completely if you flip it face down on a flat surface. The speakerphone works the same way, at least I couldn't get it to activate without putting the phone down.

I tested the muting the rings when you turn it over and that worked, then when I answered it my friend hung up! She didn't know the second part of the test. lol. Then our food came and we stuffed our faces. Then we had to go to a stupid 3 hour safety training class that didn't apply to our department AT ALL. Oh well...
I wonder if it needs the sensor covered up as well as being turned over, the one that makes the screen turn off when you hold it to your ear.
Yep, I think that's it. If you turn it over and don't lay it on a table no speakerphone, but if you then just cover that sensor with your hand it goes to speakerphone. Problem with this function is when you turn it back over speakerphone turns off. Guess I'll just turn on speakerphone the old fashioned cumbersome way. Was hoping to just be able to flip it over and back. Oh well.

Increase vibration strength

Is it possible to do this on the Lumia 800? When you test the vibration diagnostic, it's much stronger than the standard vibration. I can't even hear it vibrate or feel it on my desk.
Anyone?

Albeit a tad late, I feel that the vibration is a joke and if I put the phone on vibrate (e.g during a class) I'll have trouble feeling text messages at all. I need to be in a completely quiet environment to have any chance to feel the vibration (in my jeans) compared to my old Galaxy S where I could with the default setting have no trouble at all feeling when a text pops in.
I completley agree! The vibration is way too weak to feel if you are wearing jeans or even just put it on the desk. Not to mention, if you "dress it up" in the provided silicone case, it`s practically unnoticable.
I work at an office, where we keep our phones silent out of curtesy to each other the whole day long. I am missing 90% of my calls, texts and Messenger messages. You cannot feel/hear it vibrate with the standard office noise as abackground.
This is pretty much my only complaint about the phone (now that they`ve fixed battery life with 12070).

Anyone else noticing this?

Ok, I swear I am not going crazy.
It seems like every phone call I have, I hear the other end hit their face w/ the phone to make the beep sound like they hit a number. There is no way every single person I talk to is doing this. I have checked my phone, and the proximity sensor works fine, and my keyboard isn't even pulled up....so it can't be me can it? I'm using viper rom.
Does every person I call have fat faces? I mean, I guess it could be that...but for EVERY phone call to have that sound is just kinda weird. Or...I could just be going crazy.
Deff going crazy or everyone just hitting the phone w their face

I only notice the proximity sensor act strangely (if at all). The screen shuts off immediately at the start of a call. Very annoying, especially when you want to hang up.
Very strange but today during a phone call it happened to me. I did manage to look at the phone and made sure the proximity sensor was working and it was, so i just blew it off and blamed the other person.

Are all the callers calling from iPhones? It's possible they are, and that means they could all have the same quirk with their phone when t connects to a call. Or maybe they do all slap themselves with it. Maybe they saw somebody do it on an Apple commercial so they all have to follow suit?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
If you're just hearing it at the beginning of a call, it could be because your phone is connecting to a nearby airrave device. When it is connected, it will make three beeps at the beginning of a call. It could be that you're just hearing the last of these beeps... Or going crazy.

I have this issue as well, except I know what it is. Every single time I hear that sound its from an email, sms, or some other notification popping up during the call.

Yep. I think HTC just made a very poor choice of the notification during calls. Why would you choose an alert that sounds like a key press? And at least so far I have not found a setting to change or turn off this notification.

Are you using a Zagg HD screen protector. The early version of this screen protector covers the proximity sensor. I think if you call Zagg they will send you a replacement. I just cut a notch in the screen protector and it took care of the problem.
My girlfriend does this from her Droid X all the time. Hate the iPhone alert passthrough. so dumb!
I usually keep my phone an inch or two away from my face so its never a problem. It also avoids the screen getting all oily and smudgy. Also, my proximity sensor works as its supposed to, as I constantly check during calls just for fun of it. I am using Realook screen protector without any prox sensor cut offs.

Per HTC there is NO overheat alarm. The unit WILL shut down.
BTW mine was also ringing this morning, this is my second DNA that has done this.. Just might account for a dead battery if I forget to plug in at night. Usually I can get 36 to 48 hours on a battery charge.

Unknown cause - only restart stops it
I too have had this problem several times over the past several months. It is not overheating related nor is it an alarm, a roaming alert or anything else I can uncover. It's an alert of some sort, but damned if I can figure out how to stop it other than restarting the phone. HTC told me they have no history of such a thing, but that could be because it is hard to describe the faint ringing type sound. If you have ear buds plugged in, as I did yesterday while listening to music, believe me it AIN'T faint. It was a full blast chirping ring from ear to ear even though i had my media volume set very low so I could hear the paging system at work. I hope somebody figures out what it is because it's annoying and I'm just plain curious as to what is causing it.

Workaround: Make a call and the ringing will stop.
Background:
I don't know a solution to prevent it occurring again later. I've had this phone about 5 months and it has happened probably five times. (It's not been evenly spread out though. When it happened just now it had been long enough since the last time that I had to Google the workaround again.)
I'm adding the workaround here because this is the first link when I Google this problem. And it didn't yet mention the workaround.
Had this happen the other day. Reboot fixes it but that's a stupid problem to have.

Coming from the Droid Incredible, then the Galaxy Nexus, then this - well, the tech has come a long way. I should probably post this in a separate thread, but do the buttons being on the back bother anyone? Because they don't bother me at all. I was a little surprised actually.
its good to hear that from more and more people. i imagine when you click on the back button it pushes the phone forward because of the force it takes the push the button but sounds like no ones having an issue with it.

Speakerphone & call quality works fine for me, but each person seems to have diff exp when it comes to them. Honestly, this phone could produce NO SOUND and i'd prolly STILL use it, lol
as for Knock On, it takes a few awhile to a) realize you have to tap on a "clear spot" on any homescreen, not over an icon or you will launch it, little bit of learning curve, ppl soooo exaggerate... b) it seems to respond MUCH better to 'tap" from fingertips, not a "knuckle"...And most imp, if you find always, "looking for a cleared area to tap" to turn your device off, just double tap anywhere up by notifications, and it works EVERYTIME!
Do not be worried, within 10 minutes of opening the box, i can almost guarantee you will be totally sold on this phone...
Those "negative Nellies" are prolly the type that HAVE to find something to complain about...Every forum has 'em!
Ms D
I don't really use speaker phone so I can't comment, Bluetooth has worked well for me though. As far as knock on, if I have had my screen off for a long time, I find one initial touch and then doing knock on works 100 percent of the time.
And I actually like lg's keyboard! No one has mentioned it.
Sent from my LG-D800 using xda app-developers app
Yeah the speaker is a little weak in my opinion. Other than the HTCone i would say that all phone speakers are mediocre.. some are just a little better and some a little worse... I would say the lg g2's speaker is in the middle.. and if anything a little worse.. still it works and does the job for me. As far as Knock on/off .. It's a fantastic feature.. if the screens been off for 20-30 minutes it works the first try.. if it's been hours since you've touched your phone it seems like it takes 2 sets of knocks.. not a big deal though.. awesome feature! I've been transferring info/data/progs from my gs2 the last couple days and have noticed myself knocking on the GS2.. pretty funny but it's seems natural even after the first day!
Love the LG keyboard, I was using a leaked version on a rooted Optimus G and its the best kb I've used and it comes with 4 skins I believe. Knock on and off is imo the best feature out of all that any company has come up with in the last batch of flagships. I'm talking dynamic notifications, and always listening crap. Also nice to see they use the only feature I actually used on my old S4, smart screen to detect your still looking at screen and display stays on. I love the drag up feature to access quick access items, they added tons of options to the launcher more in line with an aftermarket one to a degree with icon changing, screen transitions and such.
Speaker isn't the worst, but it isn't the best either. Scale of 1-10 I would give it a 6 in accordance with my experience with other phones. It's very usable but won't win any awards for speaker sound, like the HTC One.
As far as knock on; when the screen is on, "tap off" works flawlessly when tapping the bar on the top or any open unused area on the screen. When "tapping on" the phone I tap three times and it works every time. Sometimes double tap doesn't work the first time when the screen is off.

Anyone else usb cable go in so snug that it is a pain to pull out? I'm with T-Mobile, I mean its in their so tight I could use it to rappel with as in toss the phone end onto a building ledge and then climb up the cable.
I have the Verizon version and it does fit very snug.
