[Q] Can't Boot into Recovery - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I went and flashed nerozehls latest kernel. When I rebooted, I got my splash screen but then no boot animation and when something does pop up, it says "Sorry! Process system is not responding." There is a force close button (grayed out) and a wait button. I tried getting getting into recovery by holding power and volume down to load into the bootloader but everytime I do that it goes to flash the radio that I had on the root of the SD card automatically.
Is there another way of getting into recovery? Any help is much appreciated.
EDIT:
Just remembered I could do adb reboot recovery. Whoops....

Put the SD card in another phone or a computer and delete the PG05IMG
Edit: ****, I totally missed your edit, and a little face palm for not thinking of that either.

radio issues: Help please

Having trouble with the Radio for GB... i cannot get the phone past the HTC quietly brilliant, I have tried taking the battery out and then restarting but when I boot into recovery it tries to update the radio and then restarts to the quietly brilliant screen
To make it stop trying to flash in the bootloader you need to take the sd card out of the phone and use a card reader on a PC to delete or rename the PG05IMG.zip that is on the sd card. I dont know about the phone not booting. But once you remove that file you can select recovery in bootloader to get to CWR.
Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt
Don't forget most of the GB roms tell you to flash the rom first then the radio.
Flash rom
Don't boot into it. Adb reboot or batt pull
Hboot radio
Reboot normally
use adb to boot into recovery
adb reboot recovery

ok this might be a noob question by i am trying to update my radio and i went into my sd card delated the old one and tryed to install the new one idk if any thing happend tell me if i did someting wrong and what i can do to fix it
com.android.phone force close on Das Bamf 2.0.5
I am having a problem with com.android.phone force closing and then taking a while to turn back on while using Das Bamf 2.0.5. only to fc again.
I have installed the GB radios (not using CWR or ROM Manager) only hboot, checked the MD5 on both files, all good there. factory reseted my device countless times which it then works for a little bit until the fc starts again.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
This was also happening on 2.0.4.01

Just like JBO1018 mentioned take the sd card out and then you should be able to get to recovery by holding down the volume - button and power and then selcet recovery with the volume key and select using the power button. From there you should be able to do a factory reset which should fix your issue of not booting.
Also, if you have another way to connect your sd card to your PC rename or delete the PG05IMG file.

[Q] Liberated Aria won't boot

A few weeks ago, I decided to install Liberated Aria. I had a few problems with the installation, but eventually it ended up working fine. Last night, I turned my phone off and turned it back on this morning, but now it won't boot. When I turn the phone on, I get:
LIBERTY PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.57.0000
MICROP-031b
TOUCH PANEL-STN 21_00
RADIO-7.08.35.06
MAY 8, 2010,03:56:58
FASTBOOT
and then the options:
BOOTLOADER
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
When I try to boot into recovery, I eventually get:
SD Checking. . .
Loading . . .[LIBEDIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading. . . [LIBEDIAG.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading. . . [LIBEIMG.zip]
No image!
Loading. . . [LIBEIMG.nbh]
No image or wrong image.
and the options change to:
HBOOT
FASTBOOT
RECOVERY
CLEAR STORAGE
SIMLOCK
The only problem is that I can't select any of the options. None of the buttons - volume, power, whatever - change or select anything. I can't get past either of these screens. I'm kind of a noob when it comes to this kind of thing, so any help would be appreciated.
The phone will automatically boot into FASTBOOT mode if you hold down the trackpad button while pressing the power button. Is it possible that your trackpad button is broken and is being registered as held down? Try messing with it to see if you can fix it. Otherwise you may have to get the phone replaced if it's under warranty.
This issue does not sound like it is related to installing Liberated Aria.
The trackpad button feels the same as it always has when I click it and I don't see anything visibly wrong with it, so I don't see why it would be registered it as clicked. I tried pushing it and all the other buttons a number of times with the same results. I even took off the screen protector thinking maybe that was causing a problem. Is there a way I can just put an image on my SD card and have it automatically boot that so I can fix it?
Doesn't installing a custom bootloader and/or ROM void the warranty?
Well, you probably will be able to simply run the 2.1 RUU on your phone since you can get to FASTBOOT. I'd probably recommend that over doing the SD card method because when you do the SD card method, you have to press a couple buttons to confirm actions which may not work if your phone isn't accepting button presses. The RUU method does not involve any button presses on the phone itself.
However if you want to try the SD card method I can point you in the right direction.

Installing a custom bootloader would for sure, but you don't have a custom bootloader. Installing a custom ROM does, but you can reverse the process (via RUU) so they can't really tell.
I downloaded the 2.1 RUU, booted to recovery, connected my phone to my computer, and tried to run the RUU but it gave me a USB connection error. Windows also gave me a USB device not recognized error. My phone does say HBOOT USB PLUG, though. Aside from HTC Sync, do I need another driver?
Do you still have the HBOOT driver installed from when you used Unrevoked? If so you should uninstall that driver I believe. That might be interfering.
Also trying running the RUU when your phone is in FASTBOOT, not HBOOT, to see if that works.
I did have the HBOOT driver still installed. I uninstalled it from device manager and deleted the driver folders. Android Phone doesn't show up in device manager anymore. I retried running the RUU in HBOOT and tried running it in FASTBOOT and still get the USB connection error. Any other ideas?
Try reinstalling HTC sync
Sent from my Liberty using XDA App
Also try doing it on a different computer if you have access to one. Preferably one that never had any drivers on it before. Just install HTC Sync, then run the RUU, that's it.
I've always had trouble getting the RUU to run. It's bizarre.
If that doesn't work, and you still want to try the SD card method, you can download this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?ct1ay7t93d8g742
Rename the zip file to LIBEIMG.zip then place it on the SD card. Then it should automatically detect the file next time you're in HBOOT and ask you if you want to proceed with the install. It's pretty self explanatory. Be patient as some steps take a while and it may appear like nothing is happening. It takes about 5 minutes to finish installing everything and will reboot once during the process. After it's done (it will tell you when it's done), the phone will reboot and there will be a scary looking screen but JUST WAIT about 10 seconds and it will boot normally. Then you're good to go.
After you're done with this, make sure to DELETE the LIBEIMG.ZIP file from your SD card. Otherwise it will ask you every time you go into HBOOT if you want to apply the update.
I reinstalled HTC Sync and it wouldn't recognize the phone was connected.
It seems to have taken a turn for the worse. Now, it won't even turn on. The screen turns on (but stays black) and off and the notification light flashes red when connected to a computer but won't do anything at all when it's not connected. I'll try to plug it into a wall instead of a computer and let it charge for a while and try the SD card method.
I went in today to get it checked out and got a new SIM card and a new battery and it fixed the problem.
Thanks a ton for all the help.

HTC Hero (GSM) - Can't boot to recovery, or mount, andmore

I have an HTC Hero with FroydVillian 1.7.2 installed.
Last week for some reason my phone always showed it having headphones connected to it, something I couldn't get rid of.
So I tried to go into Recovery do a wipe, and redo my phone. I can't get into recovery. It does the HTC logo, it blips off, then restarts and I see the HTC Logo again and it loads into Android.
So I plugged it into my computer to mount to see if I could download the clockwork recovery files. I cannot mount. I get "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned...."
So, now my phone has: no speakers, won't get into recovery, and i cannot mount it.
So I try the Volume down + Power hoping to kick it into recovery, but I get:
HERO CTV SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO13000)
MICROP-010f
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.08.20
Aug 4 2009, 19:43:30
HBOOT
It seems to be the default android boot menu. I can fast boot / sim lock etc. but it won't even read the roms I have loaded on the root SD Card.
So I downloaded rom manager, gave it super user. I flashed recovery - still won't work. redid phone permissions, nothing. Tried to force it to flash a new rom, and wipe everything - no go.
I then tried to do a factory reset through Settings->Privacy->Factory Reset. no go. just loads the HTC Menu, blips off again, and starts up. It seems it doesn't know how to run those...
Any thoughts?
stupid question , but have you tried power+home to get into recovery ?
Yes. It will seem to attempt to load it, then vibrate then restart into regular mode.

you try download "rom manager" and flash Clockwork mod recovery stock
press home+ press power
flash your recovery again using adb and make sure to exit HTC synch while using adb.
Hope you'l be able to go into recovery after flashing.

[Q] Vibrant is stuck at boot screen

I was trying to get my phone to make a nandroid backup, but for some reason it wouldn't let me. I searched on these forums and found a viable solution which was to download the update.zip and a new recovery file. I placed the update.zip into the folder called /external_sd, and then i put the recovery file into the SYSTEM/BIN folder. However, while using root browser lite, it said that the operation was unsuccessful, but there was a recovery file there. I then went into Rom Manager to see if it worked because there was a recovery file in there. When it booted up, the phone gets stuck at the lock screen. I really need urgent help. Even if I try to boot into recovery I don't think it works. I turn it off by holding the power button, but the phone turns on even if it moves. Anybody that can help, please help.
Edit: Nevermind, I got the phone working by removing the battery, then plugging it into the computer. I then plugged the battery back in, and the green charging bar showed up. Successfully booted and fixed using updated recovery file. Any mods can delete this.

Some help is needed - phone is stuck...

Alright so I've been running UKB and Cubed kernel for the last 6 days without issue. I've had some random reboots and the phone locking up, but I was just going to deal with it until ViperDNA came out. So this morning comes and I unlock my phone and the phone reboots within 2 minutes. Comes to the lock screen and is completely stuck... Alright it happens. I hard reboot the phone (holding down power and volume down buttom) and reboot the phone. Still, it is frozen at the lock screen. Phone is coming up in ADB devices, but it cannot accept any commands. I reboot into recovery (CWM 6.0.2.1) and try to clear cache/dalvik. Reboot the phone and it's still stuck at the lock screen. I go into fastboot and push the stock kernel, phone boots gets to the lock screen, starts of fine and then locks again. I don't have any earlier restores to go to on the phone as I shifted them to my HDD to save a little space. I feel like an idiot now. Any help would be appreciated.
I also tried to sideload ViperDNA via CWM and it isn't showing up the device in ADB.
EDIT: Also while in Fastboot the computer shows the device as attached via Removable hardware as Android 1.0 it just wont let me sideload or push anything other than a kernel.
This happened to me at one point.. I had to re lock the phone in the all in one tool and reunlock and start fresh.. No problem since
With help from Dr_demento on the IRC channel I was able to get the phone booting again. For future reference of people running into this issue, formatting data helps. You'll unfortunately lose everything, but it's better than locking the phone and then unlocking it again.
