Hi all i think i have bricked my aria, the power button doesnt work and my cm7 rom crashed and i dont know/cant get into recovery i can get into the stock recovery but to use it you need to use the power button to select options. any ideas? thanks
If you have CM7 installed you don't have stock recovery anymore, you have Clockwork Recovery instead. What version of Clockwork are you using? Newer versions use the trackball to select, you could try that.
Maybe you're confusing "stock recovery" with the bootloader screen. If that's the case, try installing the Android SDK w/ ADB on your computer and using the USB connection to run the command adb reboot recovery.

It must be since the stock recovery is erased with CWM in order to be able to flash the rom.
Have phone off and plug into wall USB. Should go into cwm, right?

It can't be stock recovery you got into. It must be CWM recovery you got into since the stock recovery is erased once CWM is flashed. This had to be done for you to install CM7. Have you experienced problems with your power button before your rom crashed? And how exactly did it crash?

Yes. So he has version 2.5.0.1.
Hi thx for all your help. Yes it is the bootloader sorry i was confused, the rom crashed a long time after power button broke and im unable to get into cwm do you normally hold down and power on?

I'm still a little confused at to your situation. Is your phone currently off or on? If your power button doesn't work, how did you access the bootloader?
Anyway yes, normally holding down and power on will take you to the bootloader, at which point you can select recovery. If your phone is currently off and the power button doesn't work, you have two options:
1. As andrew.cambridge suggested, plug the phone into the charger. That should bring up clockwork unless you have an off-mode charging version
2. Use ADB to send a recovery command from your computer

Don't edit your post to say something completely different when you realize you were wrong. At least use strikethrough and add the correction.
sorry what is strikethrough? what should i have done? i can get my phone on by plugging charger in then putting battery in but it goes into the bootloader i think but it has an option for recovery but i cant select it
What you need to do is turn off the phone completely (do a battery pull or whatever you do to turn it all the way off). When off, put the battery back in (if it is not in already). Then plug your phone into the wall charger while it is STILL OFF. This should prompt it to go into ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM).
I would redownload your whatever ROM you are planning to use and the correlating version of gapps (Google Apps) to your computer. Unplug your USB from the wall charger and plug it into your computer. In CWM, use the trackball to go to the mounts and storage option and press the trackball to select, then go down to the mount USB tab and click it. This will mount your SD card to your computer. You can then transfer the zip files of your newly downloaded ROM and Gapps to your phone. Once finished transferring, click the mount USB option again to unmount it from the computer. Then you need to click go back.
Now you need to do a full wipe. Click wipe data/factory reset then yes. Once done, click wipe cache partition, then yes. Once done, click on mounts and storage and you need to click format system, then yes. Once done, click format data, then yes. Once done, click format cache, then yes. Once done, click format sd-ext (if it exists), then yes.
Now you need to install your ROM and gapps. Click install zip from sdcard and navigate to your ROM zip file, click it, then yes. Once done, do the same for your gapps zip file.
Now you need to click the reboot system now button. It will take a little bit for it to boot, so give it plenty of time. This should get you back on your feet.

That's the bootanimation. Have you tried letting it sit there for like 10 minutes?
Does it ever actually boot into CM7?
Ok. Try connecting your phone to your computer and use ADB to boot your phone into recovery.

When you say it gets stuck, do you mean that the arrow stops moving and it just stays there or the animation just keeps going and CM7 never actually loads out? Anyways, this happened to me before and all I had to do was a full wipe/reset and reflash the rom. Everything went well after that. Did you follow ALL the instructions given in post #11? This should have fixed the problem.
it stays on that screen forever if i let it, also all i get is cannot find device when i try and adb into it. What state does your phone need to be in to use adb?
Do you have the phone drivers installed on your computer?

This is my first post & thread in XDA, I'm a active user in another forum. I have an OV, which is rooted, has multiple mods, and running on a IHO ROM... So I'm not a complete noob xD
Getting to the point... I currently have a Galaxy Ace that I'm allowed to tinker with (It's a friends) and Ive already rooted it with SuperONeClick.
Now I've tried to flash CWM and I've failed miserably xD
Theres a sticky in the Galaxy Ace Development section, and I've tried a method there for flashing CWM multiple times and I cant get it to work. I've also tried flashing it via the Terminal Emulator like I did with Xionia and my OV, but that didn't work. The last thing i tried was using the stock Samsung Recovery to flash the zip but it wouldnt work, so I renamed the CWM zip to update.zip and I flashed it and it said it flashed CWM and it was successful. When I tried rebooting into Recovery it just hanged on the first Samsung logo. I battery pulled and tried the button combo to boot into Recovery mode and it just hung like before. So I tried to boot into download mode and it would say Emergency Download mode instead of the normal one. So I figured the phone was semi-bricked, but then i just did a normal reboot and it booted up into the stock ROM fine! I dont get it... it wont boot into Recovery but it will boot into the stock ROM.
Before any of you burn me, I'm sorry, I'm new to tinkering with Samsung.
Other points to mention: When Samsung Kies is opened, it just says connecting with that sync icon and just hangs there. It never connects to the phone.
I was trying to use ODIN, and i selected all the files i was going to flash and i plugged the phone in, and ODIN never budged... It didnt recognize the phone, never did anything. I WAS in debug mode...
The Kies things and ODIN stuff i mentioned was tried before and after the rooting...
SO if anyone has any idea, any suggestions on whats going on, and on how i can flash a recovery from where i am now, will be greatly appreciated.
The phone has 2.2.1, Froyo as stock.
you cant flash cwm on a 2.2 phone only 2.3 try the download mode vol down home power

And yeah, Vol Down, Home, Power starts Download mode. I already know that.
I reset the phone to see if itll boot into recovery mode, but no luck & Now, it wont boot into the stock ROM anymore /: it hangs at the Samsung logo.
It boots into Download mode fine...

try to get it from kies as it will have GB bootloader...
if you flash something that dont have then you may end up with ACE as paper weight
after you get something from kies to 2.3.x then you are free to flash any roms on it for ace

Yes pwr off & plug in = cwr as long as recovery mode is set. Rebooting no.

if recovery mode is set all u need to do is

it does this because our recovery hijacks charge only mode, its the only way we can boot into BSR at this time

Note: To clarify potential confusion... The BSR (Boot Strap Recovery) is NOT the same as CWM or CWMR (ClockWorkMod or ClockWorkModRecovery). PLEASE use the correct terms to avoid confusing people. Thank you! (Sorry, pet peeve. )
Ciao!
Okay, call me stupid here, but I thought CWM didn't work with the X2? I saw another post that explained how to do it, but it confused the living hell out of me!
What are the advantages of using CWM over BSR or am I reading something wrong here?
Thanks!
To me it (ours 2.5.1.8) is a hacked version never written to be installed by an apk. They all come from cwm. Once you are in cwr you can flash a different "cwr".zip.
Whether it successfully restores your bu ONLY Tenfar has hacked one that works for the (locked BL versions of the phones) Atrix, Photon and the Dx2 and they are all the same "cwr".zip!
Ibolski are you referring to my "wish" post?
It's CWM ported to our phones. Nothing more, nothing less. It's the same thing except we have to connect our phones to a wall charger. Otherwise, once you're in there, it's the same. Looks the same, the whole works. I have CWM on a couple devices here and there isn't any difference. Perhaps some of the options don't work for the X2 but, it's still the same thing. Can you tell I'm trying to tell you that it's the same?
Thanks for the responses. I'll stick with BSR then. It just seems people were so gung-ho about CWMR and I can't see why as there isn't a clear advantage to it over BSR.
I just had an idea. How about, instead of replacing charge mode, replace stock recovery and add an option in CWM to go into the stock recovery if needed. I can't do any of it but if a developer wants the challenge.

There is no point in using a recovery from another phone that has less options then bsr. U may be able to flash stuff like bsr but if it wont restore system there is no point in even posting it other then creating confusion when people cant nandroid back after something goes wrong. Save yourself a lot of issues people use bsr and deal with pluging it in. Its functional where the alternatives are not.

If my memory serves me correctly... which it rarely does lol... because of the locked bootloader the install fails. Stock recovery is in the bootloader and we cannot modify the bootloader so we can't install recovery. Or does install but the bootloader overrides it and brings us to stock. Something like that.. vodka is making it all foggy lol I'm pretty sure that's close though
Actually i think somewhere in the system... preinstall I think. But our locked bootloader is why it does not work and cannot work. That I remember for sure

BTW

my post about a the the newer atrix recovery WAS in response to a MX2 Q about RECOVERY SAVING AS TARBALLS and they could not get a working recovery anyway.
Now some Mx2's can use ReRecovery manually as a work around.
Edit
I have flashed lots of foreign recoveries - no problem as I never install them. They run in the same environment created by our bsr.
But using Rom Manager to install any recovery, other than the still non-functioning dx2, will require an sbf.

Hey, instead of creating another thread, I'll just post in here.
My SGH-i777 was working fine, I downloaded the latest Update CM9 Nightlies 2012-06-09 directly from CM's download site. I was previously running CM9 Nightlies 2012-06-03.
I put the Update in the root of the internal SD memory. I started up ROManager, and selected the "Flash ROM Update" option. The Phone shut off, as normal, so it can go into Recovery Mode and Flash the Update automatically.
The phone never got into the Recovery Menu! I waited for about 5 mins, but nothing was booting up on the screen.
So I removed the battery and inserted it back in to turn it back on. It shows the Galaxy SII Splash Screen and then the screen turns off, and it just keeps flickering on and off. You cant see the flickering unless your in a dark room, in the daylight you won't notice it, because the backlight turns on for a split second and its really faint.
So I ruled out that its not that the battery has died, because before I started up ROManager the battery was full.
Anyways, can you guys help me? Thanks in advance!

If it's not reliable, why does CM9 come with it installed on its ROMs?
And I've used it a few times before and never had a problem with it. Also like I said, if it's so unreliable, I'm sure the devs over at CM would have taken it out of their ROMs...

I was using the Siyah Kernel made for the SGH-i777. And the latest version of Rom Manager.
Edit: The thing im confused about is I didn't flash anything yet and it just stopped working. I would understand that if I flashed something and in the middle of flashing it stopped working then that's completely different.

There's a another way to get into download mode...something like removing the battery, connect to PC via USB cable, then hold volume buttons down while inserting the battery...or something. I searched and couldn't find it again.

Big is right . Best to boot into cwm manually, I've had problems with using Rom manager to do it as well, the few times I've used it. Also, Im 99% sure Rom manager comes built into cm itself, as a system app for all cm releases. So i don't think they stick it in there for just our device or anything. But i could be wrong.

I've updated from Update-CM9-Nightlies-2012-06-03 to Update-CM9-Nightlies-2012-06-05 before and went smooth. Anyways, I guess ROM Manager might be unstable. That sucks for me!

I can't get into Download Mode or Recovery Mode. Like I said I didn't even get a chance to try and Flash anything, I was about to backup my current ROM and while RM was booting into Recovery Mode, its like it just froze on a black screen.
IDK if its a Hardware Problem or my Mother Board got fried somehow cause the screen turns on and shows "Samsung Galaxy SII" and then it just turns off. And in the daylight it looks like the phone is off, but if your in a dark room, you can see the screen's backlight flickering on and off.
Do you guys think that USB Jig will work?
Thanks guys for you help!
EDIT: BTW, I'm now stuck using a crappy WP7! It was my step-sons, LOL. It is like a watered down smart phone... I don't even think it deserves the title "Smart Phone".
Pull the battery and leave it out. Then go into download mode the usual way by holding the two volume buttons and plugging in the USB cable. The phone wil go into download mode with power supplied by the cable. If this fails, then there is definitely some serious problem, and hardware can not be ruled out as a possible cause.

Thanks!!!!! Your a life saver! I plugged it into the phone charger and held the Vol. Down Button and it was able to boot into Download Mode and the screen did not shut off like it has been on every boot up I've tried!
Right bow I'm charging it so I can plug it into my laptop and restore my phone later tonight after work.
This is my first Android and even though it kinda crapped out on me, I still love it better than the iPhone.
Thanks again!
Hello. This is my first time to post in XDA and unfortunately, I seem to have bricked (or soft-bricked) my phone.
I tried to unroot my phone, however, I got stuck in an infinite bootloop between the Samsung Startup, and the following message: Android upgrading screen saying Manual mode, Applying Multi-CSC, Applied the CSC code: BTU. Successfully applied Multi-CSC.
In an attempt to solve, I flashed the stock firmware in download mode through Odin. I got a success message, however, I cannot get past the Samsung Logo.
I would really appreciate if anyone can guide me through on how I can restore my phone. Thanks in advance.
Reboot into recovery mode and full wipe/ factory reset. Then reboot as normal

I can't get into recovery. Is there a way to install cwn from download/Odin?
Are you sure that you can't enter into recovery mode bypressing the buttons? You was with usb debugging on? You can try to use adb "adb reboot recovery" to enter in recovery mode.

CF Root 6.4 Injects CWM via ODIN.
Your problem seems to be settings related tho, usually you get that fixed cleaning cache and dalvik, as stated before. Try to get into recovery mode to check that, and if that dont work I would try reflashing all over step by step.-

You need to hold them until your phone reboots. Takes a few seconds maybe 5-10

I'm sure the OP should be able to enter Download Mode and flash another ROM via ODIN. Try that if you can't access recovery.
Im 100% he's not doing it the right way.
If you can get in downloadmode to use Odin, you can also get in the Recovery menu.
Hold volume up , home, and power untill it reboots.
Keep holding it untill you see the white text, release power, but keep holding volume up and home.
Its not so difficult.

I accessed Recovery, wiped data and cache. Then I rebooted. It worked. (>_>)
Well done mate. Glad you managed to sort it. Now, i wonder what happened to the OP

This happened to me to... i flashed a nordic stock rom, from JB because I wanted to go back to android 4.0.4.. now I'm stuck at the logo screen. I have noot rooted or anything so I cant go to recovery, only download mode.. What do I do?
same with the guys above but i had 4.0.4 and when i flashed stock i am stuck with the samsung logo. my s2 was fixed with the new stock rom as it seem it didnt support old stock after flashing new roms. may be is should try jb instead. all i did was used samsung tool should have done one by one myself. instead of using tool.
***Edit***
Okey I fixed it by going to recovery and then wiped up everything (dalvik/cache-data/cache partition) so it worked now... Here is the question. I bought the cell 2nd hand with paper and everything here is my question. on the box and back sticker of the cell phone it is XXXXXX/XX/XXXXXX/6 when i got the phone and did *#06# I got XXXXXX/XX/XXXXXX/04 and then when i tried to use samsung toolkit it went hanged in samsung logo so after i fixed it when i got back to the phone i checked my imei again now its XXXXXX/XX/XXXXXX/01 just the last is different is it okay or is something screwed my cell? btw it was locked to 3 and i used galaxysimunlocked (after) checking imei it is working but still i am concerned about the last number all the 14 numbers are right nothing changed.
