I decided to do a "best case scenario" test, and see if some of my battery issues were from apps gone awry, or some other drain. I pulled my phone off the charger right after it went green, and let it sit on the table. Wifi is off, BT is on, and I'm using my airave, so the signal is a full 6 bars all the time. I have 3 email accounts configured. Two of them are direct push, and one is an IMAP poll once every 15 minutes. Few, if any, emails were received during this test. The breakdown is like this:
4hrs, 32mins on battery. Battery currently at 92%
Cell Standby: 33%
Phone Idle: 32%
Display: 23% (the display was only on for about 30 seconds of the entire test)
Bluetooth: 4%
Maps: 4%
Android OS: 4%
So at least i know there isn't a process running that is making my battery next to useless. My battery seems to be getting slightly better with each day of use, but I still can't wait for the extended battery/cover to be released. I really got used to that on my Evo.
Dave
that sounds a lot better than my setup.
I went from a full charge to 50% with very light usage in 8hrs . I've been asleep for over 7 hours.
Display: 29%
Cell Standby: 27%
Phone Idle: 26%
Android OS: 7%
Voice calls: 5%
Maps: 5%
However, I have horrible reception in my house, even next to the windows. All's fine as soon as i step out the door.
I've found that a weak signal has a dramatic affect on battery life with these phones. They do so much syncing in the background, and it takes so much longer with a weak signal (not to mention it has to transmit at a higher power). The signal makes all the difference.
Call sprint and get yourself an airave! They gave me mine for free.
Dave
do you guys have the display setting on auto or low brightness. My display usage is always through the roog. I am getting decent battery life. I turn 4g off usually and just use 3g unless I am gonna watch youtube videos or sometihng.
I unplugged the phone at 7:15 this morning and I have email, facebook all syncing. wifi off and I am at 92%. So far this phone is being very good at battery life, specially after the first few cycles.

I have mine set at a number. I use a program to change my brightness at night.
7.5hrs & 70% battery left!!
Is it better to have the brightness automatic or a number like 30 percent?
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I just use auto brightness, I had about 11 hours use and 80% remaining taking a bunch of pictures, a little navigation and texting. This is with wifi on about half the time.
My battery was crap for the first three days with the phone, after calibrating the battery and giving it a few cycles its been really good for me. I do top off the battery usually before I pull it off the charger for the day.
I have mine set to auto and I see it changes even as I'm typing this message. Truth be told, the battery does drain when we don't have good signal...

Auto brightness us worse for your battery. This is because it has to use sensors every set time interval to check the lighting. It's not a TERRIBLE drain, but over the course of 4-5 hours it would probably save you 5-6% if you set it something lower .
And to the other person who asked, your battery life is SIGNIFICANTLY lowered when you have poor signal. What happens is your phone's radio draws extra power when it has poor reception in order to boost its range/signal. For those of you who work in places with poor signal, I bet you can attest to this
Also, I have a few battery tips in my signature if you're interested in more. It's slightly outdated (as in there are more methods now), but everything in the article is still true

Fully charge your phone, then use it until the battery complete drops...Then charge it again
How many cycles have people run on their batteries? IE full to dead?
I have auto brightness, GPS on Bluetooth on, email sync every 3 hours, weather sync evey 3 live wallpapers, and I forget the rest. Battery lasts me 12-24 hours, which is about what I got with my Hero modded out with setcpu and etc. I like the battery life of this phone.

My phone died in about 6-7 hours of steady drain, then I calibrated by doing the same thing they told us to do with the OG evo.
Charge over 8 hours, turn off the phone charge another hour, turn the phone on charge another hour.
I top off by using the phone for a couple minutes, then putting it back on the charger until full. The phone clearly goes down to 95% from full while charging and back up, I like how on this phone you can see that it does it on the battery graph so you know.
I've had my phone off the charger for like 34 hours and I'm at around 48 percent battery remaining. Not heavy usage but not super light either.

69% as of now. I had to reboot today so I can't say this is average. I know there are issues that can't be fixed until root, but as a stock ROM, it seems the power management isn't half bad.

Sense has always been pretty good about power management (especially when you consider the puny batteries they put in their phones), and an asymmetric dual core processor definitely doesn't hurt haha

Mine has been less than impressive today as well. Not good.
Mine seems to be pretty good so far. I think it'll take a few charges to get the most out of it though. I've used it a ton since about 10am and it's showing 80%. That could be anywhere from 80-89%.
Mines been sitting at 90% for about 3 hours now. It shows 90% when it drops down even a little bit because its only done in 10% increments. Pretty stupid if you have a phone to boast about battery... Motorola dropped the ball on that. You basically have a lowered battery meter all day lol
Thanks guys for all of the help!
My battery life has been decent, I unplugged it at 5pm yesterday, drove home with Trapster running (so screen on continuous for 30 minutes), used it heavily playing with it for a few hours in the evening, left it on to wake me up in the morning..
and drove back to work for 30 minutes with trapster when the 5% battery life warning went off right when I got to work.
No complaints here.
Unplugged the phone at 5am and it's 15mins to 12pm here - still full though I did laptop dock it for 5 mins several times to show people at work.

After 4 hours, I am at 75%. Email, tweaking, texting, 2 hr conference call on BT (Finiti w/Motospeak). If you check settings, Battery Manager, touch the Battery... you will see a usage breakdown. This phone is amazing. I expect after a few full charging cycles, the battery should get to full strength.
Is there a way to disable the 3G radio to save battery life (like in the iPhone)?

+1. Do a few charge cycles and then see how you feel.
I got my phone at 30 percent and it lasted four hours of straight playing around with until it hit 10 percent and I put it on a charger. My nexus one would have died with a full charge by then(original battery).
I'll see how it goes in a week, battery life takes a bit to figure out.
Remember that break-in period for batteries when you buy a new phone. Maybe after about a week it will get better? Also maybe try that battery calibrating trick...

Well considering there's no way to know it's at 75% lol it could be at 70% or 79%...either way it would show 70%. The battery only displays at 10% updates.

The battery chart shows that your battery level went back up at a certain time, indicating that you plugged it in at some point. I'm not sure this is an accurate representation of 12hrs of battery life.

Display and voice will always be the biggest drain, but man my Vibrant(both stock and trigger roms) would hit about 18 hours(dead) with maybe 20 min phone calls and 20 min display.
my photon today, despite some odd glitch, hit 12 hours with 3h 45m display and 38m talk. and about 20txt 40+ emails with pics and one 2 min video upload to youtube all on wifi and battery hit 15%.
One day I am going to charge it to full and play angry birds till the battery dies, as the best my Vibrant ever got was 1h 20m of non stop angry birds. LOL
I just received my Rezound new yesterday, downloaded some apps from the market, and set everything up for normal use today. I got it off the charger this morning around 7:30am at 100% and its dead at 4:30pm. I would consider my use light today as I only used the web for maybe 10 minutes. I mostly did things like add contact shortcuts to my home screens and move icons around, and download maybe 2 new apps.
I came from a Droid 2 which got pretty awesome battery life running Liberty 3 and I'm wondering if my usage time is normal.
Total Time 8h 22m 33s
Display 80% (Time on 2h 45m)
Call Stand 5%
Phone Idle (Time on 5h 37m)
Android System 3%
Dolphin Browser 2%
Android OS 2%
Wi-Fi 2% (Time on 1h 38m)(I don't believe I was connected to any networks though)
Drop box 2%
The screen is what kills it along with LTE. If your screen was on for 2:45 that is why. The display sucks battery on this phone.
Thanks for the reply, I figured that was the case, but I still thought I would have gotten a little longer. I hope a custom ROM will help some with the battery life.
I am on stock rooted and don't really have battery issues. Typically I get 12-14 hours which by then I have easy access to power. If it is going to be a long day, I use the extended battery. It is not uncommon to still have charge left going into late at night.
I have the screen less than a third of the way on the selector and have Auto brightness turned off. Screen timeout is set to 1m but when I set the phone down, I have a widget called ScreenOff that I click to blank the screen. Primary reason for doing that is so I don't accidentally enter some app, but a secondary is that it turns off the screen before it would normally timeout.
When I am at home or at work, I use WiFi almost 100% of the time which due to strong WiFi signals there, (for me) uses less battery power than LTE.
Otherwise, I have LTE on.
Right now today, I am about 50% with 9h 12m of use. I fully charge nightly with the AC charger on my night stand so when I get up it is 100%.
I have an extended battery, but normally use the stock battery unless I know I am going to be away from the office for long periods of time.
I am not much of a game player, but I do watch short videos from time to time. I have streamed music, but don't normally. I get 10-20 calls a day typically and use my browser on a regular basis (reddit as well).
The camera is Awesome!
Unless your display was on max brightness and you were streaming HD movies. That's bad battery life. I get 2 times that even with autobrightness, maybe your battery isn't broken in yet
A good measure is 30minutes display time per 10%, and 1% per hour with 3G and normal sync scheduling... If your apps sync ever 15 minutes that will kill it, and 4G should kill it a little more than just 3G... Minor fluctuations are still OK, but you shouldn't have 15 minutes per 10% unless everything is basically on full blast
My battery life using the setup in my sig is usually very good.
I can easily make it through a normal workday listening to mp3s from my card/texting etc using the standard battery. My screen is set to 30%, screen timeout to 30 seconds.
I do like to stream audio however using iheart radio or Sirius radio online. If I do that, I'm lucky if I make it 4 hours on the standard battery (without ever turning the screen on) When I am going to do that, I use the extended battery and keep a 2nd one in my pocket. I have two external chargers I use so I always have spare fully charged batts.
I actually prefer the feel/weight of the phone with the extended battery and the HTCPedia cutout hard rubber case.. That gives me a better grip on the phone and I barely notice the weight difference when it is in a Jean pocket.
I guess it just depends on the actual phone itself. My phone charges everynight. I pull it off the charger at 6 am and by 10am the battery is dead. I have 3 batterys, and a wall charger that I carry around. I don't consider myself a heavy user either. No music or videos. Only text, gtalk, gmail and a phone phone calls that last a few min each. I only have google and exchage set to push. My 2 yahoo accts sync every 4 hours. I do have fecebook as well. Screen is very dim. This was all using rooted cleanrom.
I am now back to bone stock, with a CLNR phone that just arrived yesterday (due to connection problems with my computer) So maybe a stock rom unrooted will make a difference. Heres hoping!
Sad.....great phone, I love it!

Diff. Roms equal diff results for me. All of the ICS roms I've tried all keep my phone up time and awake time the same. Is anyone else having this issue? Due to this, I typically end up getting around 5 hours of life even if I leave my phone off for the duration of that time. It's annoying because I really want to stay on ICS but get double the battery life out of the GB Roms.

On Scotts CleanRom 3.6, with fairly heavy usage (hour of solitaire, hour of browsing xda, texting, 30 minutes of phone calls) I can get about 10 hours before needing a charge again. Before I updated to 3.6, which has the 3.8v battery fix, I could only get about 5 or 6 hours of similar usage. I don't recall if prior versions had my awake and up times the same, but I haven't noticed it recently.

I just got my Rezound yesterday, and have noticed a surprisingly poor battery life. I did all my setup yesterday, and fully charged the battery over night. After unplugging it this morning, I listened to music off the sd card for about 45 min, browsed the net for about another 45, then stopped using it for a while. I noticed the battery was about halfway through, so I plugged it in to my car charger and did some more Internet stuff. However, after checking the battery info, I realized that even plugged in to the car charger it was consuming more power than it was taking in. I finally had to turn it completely off and let it charge to get the battery from yellow back to green.
This is the same charger I used for my Droid X, so I know that it is working...

I've been running BAMF ICS v0.9 for a few days, and the other versions before that. I get 12-14 hours with 4G on, and 20-23 with 4G off....I keep the screen on 40% brightness
Watch your clock speeds if you are on ICS. They constantly Max out, both cores. That's where your battery life is going.
Sometimes data flickers for me on random days, that's the only thing that wears my battery down fast. But I can still go through the day have 40ish percent left. If it doesn't flicker I can go through through day with about 50% left. And if in on Wi-Fi most of the time I have nore than that left over. And that's with using the phone for a couple of hours with the display on.
Trying ineffabilis with DSBs 1.1.3 kernel and undervolt it some
for me, battery life killers can be streaming audio (sirius xm or espn radio) and definitely jelly wars. Phone will die on extended battery in about 4 hours of continuous play.
Otherwise, normal usage, I get 10-16 hours of use on my extended battery before swapping it out (use 2 extended batteries).
4g definitely runs the phone hotter than wifi (about 20 degrees hotter for me)
The only time my phone gets around 95 degrees is if it's on a charger and I'm watching a movie, and it takes about an hour for it to feel warm, which could even be caused from me holding it the whole time. 4G doesn't get my phone any hotter than 3G Or Wi-Fi. Guess every phone is different though. least we get signal xD

I've been using it for half a week now and battery is phenomenal even in LTE all the time. Will last you a full day off not a day and a half with moderate use. Full day heavy use probably.
You have nothing to worry about this time. Nokia got it right.
More details here: http://forums.wpcentral.com/showthread.php?t=200158
Mine sucks right now. I'm just using it for normal email updates and a few downloads from the app store and it'll be on 40% by 4-5pm. I've turned off a lot of the background updates on the live tiles too, but it's not making a difference.
Screen on time is disappointing.
Mine has excellent battery life. 2 days on a row on my last charge.
Ppl with battery life problems, I would suggest to visit the Nokia support forum.
Important
If you disable NFC (tap+send in settings) you have a HUGE improvement in battery life.
As mentioned above, disabling NFC and background apps will greatly improve battery life. I am more than satisfied.
I leave my data connection on 2G most of the day and it seems make the phone last all day, with heavy use. If I really need the faster connection I switch it to 3G. This seems to work for me
Full day, 3G use (using on a 3G only carrier, no LTE unfortunately). Moderate-to-heavy usage, not a problem getting back home, chilling on the sofa, doing what not, and having enough battery to last until bed time. FYI my day starts around 8-9 and I head to bed around 11ish+.
I hear battery life isn't as good when NFC is on. Don't know though, I never have NFC on anyways (really don't see how useful it is atm).
Battery saving Tips
This battery saving tip has been overlooked since WP7 first generation devices. The reason why some ppl will be having huge battery drain is due to apps running in the background. So, you need to think about the apps that you actually need to run in the background. Make sure all your email accounts are on the highest interval time to be checked and/or "as the item arrives". When you select as the item arrives I believe true push is being used which if you don't receive tons of emails will save battery in the end. The other apps settings are located here start screen>settings>swipe over to applications>background tasks>and block all apps that you can that don't need to be running background tasks. I for instance only have accuWeather app running background tasks. Another thing is you need to be aware of apps power usage...i noticed that accuWeather is far better at using less power consumption than the Weather channel app. Other tips are common knowledge. Disable NFC, use WIFI when available, turn off high sensitivity if you're not needing it, use low time-out for shutting off display and use low brightness. Be efficient!!
Good
Lasts me about 1hr for each 10% increment. About the same i was getting with the S3. While playing music its battery life seems to last longer than leaving it on standby :S Find standby kills battery some reason, just recently turned of nokia drive background app, hopefully that makes it last longer
Battery life has been excellent for me. Mine was fully charged on Wednesday morning @ 8 AM and was at 48% when I put it on the charger Thursday @ 2 PM with moderate uses. Unexpectedly, the battery life is much better while on the LTE network than when I'm using my SIM card not registered for LTE usage. Standby drain is very very good.

While playing music its battery life seems to last longer than leaving it on standby :S Find standby kills battery some reason, just recently turned of nokia drive background app, hopefully that makes it last longer

That's because WiFi stays connected when you're streaming music, whereas WiFi disconnects when on standby. Known windows issue that should be addressed by ms soon.

I get great battery life unless I enter into an LTE area. When I do, my phone gets VERY hot and the battery runs down in a few hours. Even if I'm not doing ANYTHING with the phone. Strange...

I leave my data connection on 2G most of the day and it seems make the phone last all day, with heavy use. If I really need the faster connection I switch it to 3G. This seems to work for me

How do you switch the 920 to 2g mode? I only have 3g and 4g in the options on max speed? my old lg wp let me set either 2g or 3g, huge difference in battery life on that devic.
to be honest tho so far i'm impressed easily outlasts my old phone, just tried turning off the high sensitivity on the touch to see if it makes a difference.
also run down the phone till it turned itself off last night, tried turning it on got the warning icon of low battery, did it again then it started, data connectino wouldn't work battery said 0% remaining and it lasted just under half hour with me playing mirrors edge, makes me wonder how accurate the battery % is
Battery capacity seems to have been cut in half!
When I first got the 920, at 100% the estimated battery life would say 1 day and X hours. Now (2 weeks later) when my battery is at 100%, it now says 13-14 hours of estimated life. My battery also drains much faster now than it did in the first week of owning the 920. My use of the phone has not changed over the last two weeks. I'm always in an LTE area, WiFi on and I use bluetooth from time to time. Is this an issue that other people are experiencing?
I'm trying to figure out if I need to exchange my 920. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
i found it was using 2% battery every hour whilst connected to a data connection - but not syncing anything, all backround tasks turned off. This seems a bit mental.
So it seems that battery isn't so good :/ Too bad because i was wondering to buy this phone.

After deep cycling the battery, I am back to the correct reading. I am now losing a little less than 1% of battery life per hour on standby!
I have had the Pixel 6 for a week now and I'm very disappointed. My biggest disappointment is by far the battery life. I can barely get through an 8 hour work day before it dies (Note: this is with zero WiFi use). After 8hrs I'm typically at 10-20% battery or dead. The mobile network standby is slaughtering my battery life. It uses a consistent 25-35% of it everyday. I also seem to have a lot of weird bugs.
-I get occasional system UI crashes
-randomly I'll lose signal where I always have signal and have to turn it off and back on or reboot
-auto rotate I have to frequently shake my phone for it to work
-camera quality seems terrible. My photos are almost always blurry. My OnePlus 7 Pro takes much better pics.
Update: The 8hrs is total battery life not SOT. My SOT is like 3-4hrs average sometimes worse. My phone use also stays in a 6ft area all day. So I'm not like in and out of service. I also make no calls during the day.
Update 2: I've had 5G disabled all day and I've had 3.5hrs SOT and have 45% battery left and it's the end of my work day. I'm happy with that number. Still having weird OS issues like system UI crashes, Spotify pausing randomly and it not working with the Google assistant. So I think I still need to do a factory reset unfortunately.
I am returning it also tomorrow.
I already did factory reset without any result.
Mobile network standby is killing the battery.
30% day and 60% overnight.
I tried everything without success.
Fingerprint Scanner also is terrible.
Bump.
I had big hopes for this phone.
Try clearing system cache.
Try a network reset.
Try safe mode to rule out 3rd party apps.
Try turning off any power management.
Use factory reset for; you did a major firmware update, for malware, damage to hidden users settings by a 3rd party app.
Otherwise the issues are likely to reoccur.
Try to find the root cause(s). Cloud apps can use a lot of power day and night. Trash apps like WhatsApp, FB, etc waste power and abuse privacy.

Damn, what carrier did you buy it from? I'm also disappointed in the performance of the finger print scanner. I was expecting that though and it works if you hold it. So that's not like a deal breaker but all the reviews I watched before purchasing were saying great things about the battery life. Google even advertises it as a 24hr battery life. Which I don't expect but I need to at least get to when I go to bed without charging.

From Media Markt.
I am using o2 Deutschland.
Tried different carrier also.
Tried esim and physical card also.
Tried every combo on network preferences.
Mobile standby mode is not dropping below 25%.

Have you installed the latest feature updates?
Do you use 5G and if not have you set your phone to use 4G instead?

I'm using 5G and will try doing that next. I don't really need the 5G speeds but I like seeing the icon lol.
Just got another system UI crash
Disabling 5G seems to have actually made my battery life worse. My phone is at 12% after only 8hrs of use..... Usually it's at like 20% after 8hrs.
So on WiFi my battery is amazing. In the past 3hrs with high brightness and over and hour of video and the rest on apps it's only gone down 6% So if the network standby issue can be fixed my battery life would be great.

Is it a joke ? Have 8hr SOT and crying ?!
Don't read too much into the two-hour "battery usage" percentages. They don't have any relationship to how much total energy was used - they only show the relationship to other tasks running during that two hour period.
For example, we can assume that the "Mobile Network Standby" power usage is pretty consistent if you remain in the same physical location and make the same amount of cell phone calls/texts. However the bi-hourly use % will be wildly different depending on how the phone was being used. For example, you are showing 66% Mobile Network Standby when the phone is sitting idle and not being used. That is to be expected because the phone was literally not used at all so there are very few tasks using energy during that period of time. If you compare another time when the phone was being used, the Mobile Network Standby might only account for 22% of battery use during a 2 hour period. The actual energy used for Mobile Network Standby was the same in both cases, but the % changes depending on what other tasks were using energy. It doesn't mean that it used three times the energy when it shows 66% vs when it shows 22%.
You can see this same type of battery usage detail for the last 24 hours by clicking the drop down menu "System usage for past 24 hours" on the initial battery usage screen. This will show a more accurate accounting of how much actual power each app and system process used in the last 24 hours. Unfortunately it is only for 24 hours and not since the last full charge, so it can still be a skewed number because it still doesn't show how much battery power was used, but only what % of total battery use each item accounted for. In other words, you could charge and totally drain the phone 3 times in a day, and the percentages would still look relatively the same vs someone that didn't charge at all during the day.
I suspect you will see your Mobile Network Standby number run about 20-30% when you look at this number.
Plus, your first set of battery use images show the phone using about 55% during an 8 hour period. The second set of images show the phone using about 75% over a 12 hour period. Of course we don't really know what type of use you really had during those times, but that isn't terrible. That shows the phone should last about 16 hours based on your usage.
You are also showing about a 10% decrease in battery life when the phone is setting idle for 8 hours. Honestly this is about normal battery life and you shouldn't complain about it. These phone are going to use a little more than 1% total battery power per hour when they are sitting idle and on cellular (not wifi only). If you are seeing 2-3% battery use per hour while idle, then you should be more concerned.
I have 11h40 SOT with the Pixel 6 and it is more than enough for me.
I loose 8.2%/h with the screen on and 2.7% with the screen off

This is from 93%.
I am taking in best case 4 hours sot.
All the other battery is drained by mobile standby.
I am loosing sometimes 4% with screen of and wifi turned on, when my old redmi note 10 pro loses 0%
I guess i get faulty phone.
But i am done with with pixels.
