I installed Nero 4.1 but I completly hate the stock email app. The orange glow at the top is terrible looking. I tried the Galaxy Tab email app that was ported to the correct size, but I was getting connection issues shortly after installing it and no new emails would come in (loved the look though).
I found this Gingerbread email.apk on xda (does have exchange security code taken out) and used root explorer to transfer it to System /App. I then cleared the email data from applications and setup my company's exchange account. This email app looks so much better than stock and completly matches the Gingerbread theme. I dont know why this isnt used as the stock email app for new builds. So far this is working without any issues. Just thought I should share.
I have attached screenshots but have blocked out any email addresses and last names of the emails.

Update: Installed Axura 2.2.6.0, Gingerbread 2.3 email app seems to be working on this build also.
Update: I have attached the stock Nero email.apk in case any body has issues and needs to revert back.

The attached email.apk in the link you reference was accidentally deleted per the OP - can you re-post it here or there?
I downloaded the Email.apk and used Astro to install it. It failed and then I
uninstalled 2.2 and then tried again and this time it says application not
installed. Do I have to use Root Explorer or ADB to push it? I have used
Astro to install a few apps such as market and did not get any problem.
In addition, the file size, data size and total size are all shown as 0. But the
downloaded apk is indeed 1.7m in size.
update: Used root explorer to paste the app to /system/app and it worked.

Go to System/App using root explorer and rename the email.apk to email.apk.old. Then copy the Gingerbread email.apk to system/app. You will then need to go to settings/application/manage applications and clear the data on Email. Next time when you launch the email app it will ask you to input all your info and your done. This isnt a apk that you install. It has to be pushed to the system/app folder using root explorer.

I had installed Gingerbread Email.apk a while ago. However, the HTML hyper links inside email are not clickable. Sometime, I receive email messages which have hyper link. It was a pain not able to click on the link directly inside the mail. I like Galaxy Tab modified email better then stock version from Froyo, or Gingerbread.
That's so weird because I can click on hyperlinks that are in my emails.

Anyone try this on Bionix V yet? Or does anyone know if its compatible? I would nandroid and try it myself but I'm busy at the moment. If not I'll try later and letyou guys know.
So far working fine on Overstock v2.2.1 / Simply Honey Pro Edition v1.0
This also fixed my problem of no notification sound playing when receiving my work emails

If you got that far, I suggest just going with QuikSense. Has a stock feel to it, just more memory and it's faster. Nice list of mods too. Working great for me. Past couple hours have been awesome.

Just say goodbye already! Haha. QuikSense has the stock feel, it's faster and doesn't have the useless crap. Do it up. Most of the apps that install from Market backup can be removed, like the T-Mobile apps if they auto copy over.
this should be in the general not development section.
anyways yeah flash quiksense. It's debloated stock, with enhancement in performance, battery life, and coolness.

Been running QSense for two days already and I like it but, still, some more apps that I'ld like to remove, though.
Using TB to frozed several apps like Peep, Twiter, Stocks, Tell HTC and so far so good. I'll removed them all after testing some more. I need to test frozen 'em one-by-one first to make sure before get rid of them for good

you can virtually remove all the obvious widgets and apps. Just don't touch any that may sound that it would be used by the system itself. Some apps for example wifi calling with FC like there's no tomorrow, but it would be fixed if you fixed permissions in recovery..
Actually i think you can remove anything that has a widget lol
I'm wondering myself what apps should I remove from the ROM. I would be grateful for any description of following apk files so that it would be easier for me to decide. I can't test it myself because I don't have Amaze 4G.

I hate to revive an old thread, but I just switched to stock and tried removing some bloat, and with the stock ROM being odexed, I've had some issues trying to remove apps. So now I'm stock again, fully unlocked, rooted, and full of bloatware.
Now the OP posted my SAME EXACT question, but to no surprise to THIS community, he didn't get much of a TRUE answer aside from the one I quoted. Now that we've all had this phone for a while, is there any updates from others who are running stock rooted on what is safe/unsafe to debloat?
Thanks everyone
PS... And can a mod please move this to Q&A or general... Doesn't belong in development.

Well I know that --IQ-tmobile-release-signed-zipaligned-v1.1.apk-- is Carrier IQ, so you probably would want to remove that. The thing is, I don't know how badly it will mess with your phone though. So remove it at your own risk.

Yeah, there are 2 files associated with carrieriq...one is an odex file I think...use root explorer to find it. Just type in ciq in the search box and it will show both files. Once you remove the apk, you will have to do a battery pull

I'd prolly leave it. Make sure you do 'clear dalvik cache' from within tb after you've removed what you want. Save carrieriq (system manager) till the end because its gonna go into fc city once you uninstall it. Then pull the battery and reboot

Hey all.
Some of us using custom roms have been looking for and asking about the HC google calendar, as it has a better appeal to some of us. I extracted the .apk from a xoom rom and all works great. So i figured I'd post it here for anyone else who wanted it.
All you need to do is place the .apk in system/app/ folder. (I used root explorer to paste it there.) Dont click install since it wont work, just reboot and it will show up in your app drawer. I renamed the old calendar to calendar.bak so its still there if i ever want it back. Hope you all enjoy.

worked fine for me on task 5.2
Saw the app after reboot, opens and edit calendar entries. Although the Cal widget FCs.
Did change the name to only Calendar.apk, but did not even touch the permissions.
Thanks for sharing - hope we can get the widget to work.
works for me. i didnt rename it. i thought i needed too but apparently it works fine just as it is. but i did change the permission to rw- r-- r to match the original permission.
personally i prefer the monthly view from the TW version. but the weekly and daily view from the HC version.
works great for me... thanks
does anyone know the way to let my tasks show up on the calendar. it just show up the events

Not sure about tasks dont have the tab near me so can check. I use a task program called Tasks N Todos it syncs with google and works like a charm. I can even do recurring tasks and create folders.
The widget from the TW calendar stays but doesnt work. I wish i knew how to remove it, bugs me having in my list. There are widget apps for calendars, but i dont must have a widget anyways.
I considered a screen shot but realized i have too many private stuff in my calendar. If someone would care to make on and ill add it to the OP.
Glad its working for everyone didnt think it would be this much in demand.
Hey medic97 - which rom did you rip this file from? I think calendarprovider.apk needs to be replaced as well to fix the fc's.
This seems to be lacking the List (agenda) view my prior Calender.apk had that I found very handy. I have been running Task ROMs.
Edit: Calender.apk with List view option shows About: 3.2-UEKMM. I restored back to it and will keep it as I like that 'List' list.
I got the email apk from gingerbread up and running on the nook tablet *will update with screenshot. I figured I would try and it worked so no more *****ing about the stock email app being crap. You can now fix it.
How to install:
Download here
Push to SDcard
Move to system/app using root explorer *or free alternative.
change permissions to:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
^ Just like that.
then reboot
and
Enjoy
Don't forget: Backup your stock email apk, just in case.

Got it up and going fairly effortlessly...
the mistake I was making?
I am using Go Launcher Ex...after reboot I looked at E and M for Email or Mail...well, it wasn't there (even though I was sorting alphabetically)
It turns out, it WAS there in my app drawer...it just went to the very last page of my app drawer and was listed after Widget Locker...obviously NOT in alphabetical order, haha
Maybe you guys were also having this problem?
Yep that was my issue as well. PEBKAC. Sorry for the mixup. Thanks for the app!

Yeah, exactly the same thing happened with me. Go Launcher doesn't always seem to auto-sort correctly.
Not sure if that's an error or feature of Go Launcher but it doesn't seem to happen all the time. Recently downloaded apps are placed at the end of the app draw. I like it cause I down load so many apps, I forget what I've downloaded.
Lately however, I've noticed that new apps appear in order with a little orange label in the upper right corner of the icon - I think it says new.
Awesome! Thanks, Indirect. This worked perfectly for me.
On a side note, this also fixed an issue with contacts. I was stuck with the abysmal stock contact list manager, because nothing else I installed would allow creation or editing of contacts. With the stock email app is in place, I can now use GO Contacts to create and edit contacts.
BTW: email addys open a new email, street addresses open in Google Maps, and phone numbers open chat in textPlus if you have these installed.
the download link is no longer work. Can you send me a new URL?
Thanks
Please ignore my last post. I found it at your other thread.

So I ended up needing Samsung stock TouchWiz ebook, going thru all the posts and various apk files try, none worked perfectly, you either get force close, or import crashes (yes, someone posted work around, but a little pain), and some said it does not highlights the text..etc...
This also goes back to my other post "possible to port TouchWiz to JB/CM10/CM9 ROM", i believe this is the biggest issue to make all mini Samsung Apps to work for any other ROMs.
We all have love & hate for Samsung TouchWiz, I just wished that someone come up TouchWiz port that can be installed to any ROM, but i guess it is rather complex to do that since TouchWiz buried under all the touchwiz framework, so must be quite challenging to extract and port to other ROMs.

I was in exact same situation. Today I tried "Cool Reader" (not the best name i know) and I think it's the best reader I've ever used so far. Of course your needs could differ but that app is incredibly customizable. Try it if u haven't yet.
I have never been able to get eBooks to work perfectly outside of TouchWiz. The biggest roadblock is that you need My Files and I believe that depends on TouchWiz.
If you could get that ported over I'm sure ebooks would work.

yeap. you probably right about MyFiles app, and it is system app, even if I tried to drop the file system/app folder and gave correct permission, it still crashes on reboot. so like many other small samsung apps probably depends on touchwiz framework..

The only one that comes close to being the best is Aldiko, but I paid to have TouchWiz and I want what I want.

I want the eBook that I had on the Tab before the ICS update. It doesn't work anymore. I have MyFiles, but eBook won't start now no matter what. I tried Cool Reader and Aldiko, but still like the eBook better. Is it possible to get it to work? How about Readers Hub? I can't install that one either. It's supposed to be a replacement of eBook. Please, help.
You can still install the ebook app through the samsung apps if you are on stock ics.
And what if someone(me)) can't install Samsung Apps?
No, I can't. As a matter of fact, eBook is still installed and has an icon for it in the app drawer. But if I tap it, it just brings up the Samsung Apps app with eBook page. If I choose "get it", it gives me some error, that it can't be downloaded. I'm stock, BTW.
Can anybody check if their eBook app is functioning on stock ICS?
The other question, can somebody upload Readers Hub here? And will it work on our Tabs?

I just recently did a factory reset and the only trouble I had was with my password but otherwise ebooks downloaded and installed just fine.
If you have root I can just pull my ebooks/odex files and send them over to you tomorrow.
I appreciate it, serosis. But I'm stock, not rooted. I'll try to delete cache and see if it helps at all. I tried Aldiko and Cool Reader and even Toshiba book reader app. I like Sammy's better.

Maybe a screenshot or two.
Ok, so as I said, I tap eBook app, it launches Samsung Apps (instead of eBook app). If I click "download", it says "processing failed". See the screenshots.
I tried to delete cache of eBook and Samsung Apps. I started the Tab by holding vol up button and deleted cache from there too. I wanted to uninstall the eBook app, but that's not an option (same as some other "system" apps).
I'm stock ICS, never been rooted.
