How is the multitasking on this phone can you talk to someone and browse the web at the same time.

If your WiFi or four g you can. 3g no. It's a limit of cdma. Not the phone.

Thanks I wanted to know that. I also have heard that you can do more than 2 things at once also is this true and if so how many things can you do at the same time.

The evo3d has n wireless on the 2.4ghz singal. And if you have a n router with that band its awsome. I have a n setup just for my 3d. And when I'm connected I can talk via Bluetooth check my email and respond. Then I can hold the home button and hop over to xda and check on the root progress then hit home and go to the app drawer and open up engadget to see what new. Then go back to my email and refresh and see any new ones sent. Then hang up the phone and opening up pa and turn some good music on. And it never slows down. I might add I keep a short cut to running service on my home screen to see what running and I kill apps like google maps, voice mail,Spiderman etc. But using this phone on wireless n is awsome. Also I keep my phone charger plugged in when I'm gonna be using it like this because wifi and Bluetooth turned on at the same time will drain the battery pretty quick. Well hope this helps.

Wake me up when someone decides to support 5ghz N. 2.4 is nice and all and but you'd really see a big difference at the higher frequency.

semi a limit of CDMA.. as soon as sprint turns on it its SVDO service instead of EVDO, our phone will be able to do it over 3g (supposedly), our evo and the shift both have the chipset to allow SVDO..

Don't know if you know but 2.4 can reach 300mbps. The main difference in the 2.4 and the 5ghz is how reliable the signal is at a further distance. But both top out at 300mbps
Edit also the 2.4 can suffer from more interference from microwaves and cell phones but nothing that the user should notice especially on a cell phone. The 5ghz is faster and more reliable but it also requires a higher power supply which is why most cellphones although n capable cant see a 5hz network. It would drain the battery in no time Imo. 2.4 for a cell phone is more than enough being that its still the most common used frequency. With today's routers netgear, links, belkin, cisco etc offering dual band you can have the best of both.So for now I say anything over 54mbps on a cellphone is nice. And with my netgear I reach speeds of 79mbps to 92mbps. Also the Motorola atrix is the only phone that supports the 5ghz signal and from what I read its not a big difference. If you mean you will notice a difference on desktops and laptops then yes I agree but on a cellphone I don't think it makes a huge impact. Hope this was useful.

srsly, does speed really mean a difference when talking about cell phones? I understand jumping from 3g to wifi or 4g, but faster wifi or 4g over a smartphone is it really a difference?

if you download large files it means a lot.. i dont do anything from a computer unless i have to anymore (at home, at work i dont have a choice).. so when i download roms, music, movies anything, the faster the better for me.. and it does provide an increase in browsing speed, and navigating between all of my apps that require data..

Well it depends on the user. Connect to a g signal and surf the internet on your phone and dl s few things. Now connect to a "n" signal and do the same. You will notice a great difference and probably wouldn't want to go back to g. Hope this helps.

What was HTC/Verizon thinking???

Seriously, the best thing about the Evo was the ability to turn off 4G. Am I missing something here or did they omit this feature from the Thunderbolt? Cant find it anywhere. Without doing anything other than having email sync'd, a few texts and a few speed tests my battery is under 40% in under 4 hours from a full charge.
Open the dialer app :
1) *#*#4636#*#*
2) Phone Information
3) Scroll down to the 2nd drop down box and select the following :
CDMA+LTE/EvDO auto for auto switching between CDMA and LTE
CDMA auto (PRL) for CDMA only

If you want to turn data off entirely, that is in Settings, Wireless & Networks, Mobile Network checkbox.
Or do you want to have it on but slow?
it's not an option via the power widget?...oh no...hopefully custom roms will resolve this

The first thing I did was go into sync settings and disable the weather, stocks, and news syncing. Seems to help a lot, since I don't even use those stupid things.
So if you cant turn off 4g, does it sit there and keep searching for all of us not in a 4g area?
Is it smart and stops searching after a while, or long pauses in between searching?
This is for sure a deciding factor for me.
It's simple, because it does use a lot of power. LTE is not Wimax and this isn't a EVO running a 1st gen CPU.

I am not an expert, but afaik, if it does not find an LTE signal, it will camp on CDMA (eHRPD) to be specific. After that, the radio probably periodically scans for a 4G pilot in order to jump up to 4G if / when available. The frequency of the scan is probably dependent on who makes the LTE modem portion and how HTC has written their radio software.
Im sure it wont take long for someone to figure out how to modify that scan interval. Modifying that (depending on factory settings) IMO would have a good impact on battery life. We shall see with in the next day or so...
Really, that was the *BEST* thing about the EVO? I agree the option should be there, but it's not really a big deal.
Why assume it "scans" at all? I know they look for a data connection when they don't have one, but if I were designing the system, I would have the tower tell the phone what it has on the existing data connection, not make the phone ask.
I have to say that the title of this thread was EXACTLY what I was thinking when I couldn't find a way to turn off 4G. I doubt that it doesn't eat battery. Whether or not it is more efficient than EVDO is an interesting question.
I wonder if the lower band for 4G gives better performance, and thus doesn't require as much power as Sprint's.

[Q] Did HTC remove wireless N from us?

I noticed my WiFi signal isn't as strong as my original Epic was. Does this phone support wireless N?
Like explained in this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158629
I tried N on my evo a while back and thought it sucked my battery down compare to G. My N network shows up fine on my 3D although I haven't tested it cause G is plenty fine for the 3D. Plus I get excellent battery life leaving wi-fi on G and don't really need the speed bump going to N. I don't think N will work on 5Ghz though. My ipad2 will see a 5Ghz N network but not my evo. So if your N is on 5Ghz it won't even show up in your list, at least it didn't for me.
I get between 65 and 72 mbps with my 3D on my 4G i was topping off at 54mbps.
That really is too bad... I thought I remembered having read somewhere that the 802.11 chipset in the 3D supported 5Ghz..? If that's the case I would be curious if a different firmware or driver might be able to enable use of the 5Ghz spectrum.

My ipod touch 4th gen won't see a 5Ghz N network either. I ended up switching my N network back to 2.4 since hardly anything even sees a 5Ghz network.
The evo3d does support n but only on a 2.4ghz signal. Your router must be set to that signal in order to use it. It will not see 5ghz ssid. I average 78 to 94 mbps on wifi. Hope this helps.

I could be standing right next to the router and not get better than a 11 mbps rate when the cable service is 25 mbps (and the computer reaches that high). Why would that be? I looked in all the Linksys settings and cant see what could be changed.

do you currently have a 802.11b device connected at the same time as the Evo 3D?
802.11n on the 2.4 side, might be talking slower because you have a slower device connected? (maybe an old iPhone, or old laptop or something?)
If that doesn't work, take off mixed mode, and set it only to n, or at least G and N.

Well you might have to invest in a different router. Your router needs to be set at 2.4ghz in order for the 3d to see the ssid and connect. Otherwise it will only see the g. Try updating your routers firmware and see if that might help. Also call the tech support or check the routers website to see if it supports 2.4ghz

Not a bad thing. A netgear 3500 dualbad will only set you back about 170 + warranty of course. But look at it like this do it now and its over. Got mine from bestbuy with a 4yr warranty. With this router you can have multiple networks setup. I have the 5ghz for my 3 desktops and my laptop which support the signal. Then I have the 2.4ghz n just for the 3d. Then I also have a guest network for friends who visit and want to connect which is a,b,g or n. You can configure the networks as you see fit. Its a great investment imo and with the 4yr warranty you covered. Hope this helps.

Does any phone out support 5 GHz wireless n? I'm not positive but I don't think so. And even if it does what ISP has speeds that even come close to the speeds available in that spectrum? I have 5 GHz n on my computer and yes it performs better on speed tests than my 3D but Time Warner isn't selling 300 Mbps service. My 3D and my OG EVO both cap out at 72 Mbps which I attribute to "good neighbor" mode in 2.4 GHz which basically never let's you use channel bonding that is required for higher speeds. That being said 72 Mbps is more than sufficient for anything I'm doing on my phone especially considering my service is only 15/2 Mbps. On a separate note I did notice the Samsung 10.1 tab does support 5 GHz.

Is the N on a separate chip in the 3vo? I don't understand how N would suck the battery faster than G. I thought N was more efficient than G.

[Q] 4G LTE Drops out While On Mobile Hot Spot?

Any other Rezound owners with Mobile Hot Spot seeing 4G dropping out fairly often? I almost never lose 4G LTE signal anywhere in my city, but when I have MHS on, it drops out fairly often.
Just noticed this today in Chicago while using hot spot in airport. I think I'm going to call Verizon about it.

I just called and got transferred almost immediately to level 2 tech support. They checked to make sure everything was configured properly on their end of the network before asking me to go to Manage Applications and clearing data in the Mobile Hotspot app.
I'll see how that goes. Next step they said would be Factory Reset, and then possibly switch out the phone.
The thing is, neither of these might fix it. It could be an issue in the software that requires an update. So if any of you have Mobile Hotspot, pay close attention to see if the 4G LTE connection drops out periodically while using MHS, and if so - dial *611 and complain.
Squeaky Wheel gets the oil!
So that didn't fix it. I so very reluctantly am going to try a Factory Reset. I can't stand the idea of having re-download all my apps and set up GO Launcher again, but this is infuriating.

Yeah I'm going to do the Factory Reset tonight and report back.
Even if I keep the MHS for $30/mo to help ensure unlimited data and no red flags, once we have S-OFF, I definitely might switch to another tethering application if it runs smoother.

I had my laptop tethered one night just checking it out and it was dropping off but I thought it had to do with the screen going to sleep. Does LTE stay on while phone screen is asleep? I know that putting the phone in "sleep mode" is supposed to turn it off during the set hours which makes me think that it's not supposed to happen in the normal course of the day when the screen turns off.
I'm looking into cutting off my dsl if the 4g suffices for my internet connection at home.
I'm traveling for work and there is no 4g signal where I'm at and I had no problem with 3g tethering. No drop outs.

Forgive me if this is only peripheral to your topic.
I can't prove this but I believe mobile hotspot is throttled. If you want to see for yourself, try this. Using mobile hotspot, see if you can stream a 1080 p video from youtube on your laptop. Chances are, it will have to stop to buffer every 30 seconds or so. Now download and install easy tether. Now, open 4 you tube windows with 1080 p videos on each 1 and a run em all at the same time.
The difference is freaking amazing. With wired tether this phone will run FOUR videos in high definition simultaneously. That is true 4 g speeds.
By the way running the speed test app I can pull about 26 down and 18 up. So I'm pretty damn sure mobile hotspot is seriously throttled back. Verizon claims wireless hotspot is 4 g, but I smell fish.

False alarm. =\ 4G started dropping out again after a while. Especially when clicking from Amazon Instant Video to Netflix and back on my Roku player. They did recommend trying 3G, so I'll try that before bringing the phone in for an exchange. Not excited about forcing them to manufacture another phone, but we need to press this issue, if it is indeed either a software issue or hardware issue. The WiFi and LTE Rx anetenna are right next to each other so that is suspicious!
Anyone else having this issue needs to start calling Verizon! The Tech Rep said he saw no record of this complaint for the Rezound in the system. So they are assuming it is just me.

Easy teether is for wired USB internet. Mobile hot spot is for wireless connections. I would highly recommend easytether , it works flawlessly with no problems whatsoever. Here are screen caps of the problem that everyone is having. Verizon is blaming HTC for it saying they don't show any problems on their side. Funny however, my Thunderbolt did it, my Droid Charge at times used to do it and now the Resound. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the app. I did a factory reset, trade sim cards, two tickets for the engineer coming back with no problems, a call from HtC saying phone was defective, a new Rezound with a new sim card and STILL it looses connection.

So... using a usb tether are you using your data plan and not your mhs plan?
And in order to have phone on charger and usb tethered you'd need a splitter then, would this affect the data rate if there is charging going on? Any reason why this can't be done? Trying to figure out how to use my unlimited mhs in place of my dsl and drop dsl. As long as it's reliable and they don't kill my connection with throttling I might do it.

If you have unlimited MHS, then you should have already gotten in on the unlimited data glitch. No splitter. Wired tethering uses data. Phone charges while (wired) tethering. You'll get FAR faster speeds too. (But you can bet they know you're doing it.)
I have noticed when using the MHS to connect to my epic 4g touch that if I leave my rezound ON, I wont lose the connection. But as soon as I turn the screen off the rezound, itll lose connection...

Makes no difference on mine, would lose connection any way.
Anyways, great news (sort of). HTC contacted me today and told me they are looking into it since they've been getting calls about this issue. Looks like it is a big problem. They will call me back from 48 hrs up to 10 business days. Glad to see this is getting recognized! Lets keep pressuring VZW/HTC on getting this issue resolved.

[Q] old iphone reception > evo 3d?

my friend has an iphone 3gs and we're both on the same carrier. she gets way way better reception with her iphone and i am wondering why. i read a couple threads that suggest the antennae of the evo being at the bottom being the problem cause when you hold it your hand blocks the signal, however if i place both phones side by side and not even touch them the iphone signal is still a lot better. how is it that a nearly 3 year old phone smashes a modern day smart phone in terms of reception?
Are both phones using the same speed of network? I didn't think the iphone 3gs did the 3G or 4G? I thought it was only a 2G phone.

You go to settings > update > profile/prl
Prl tells the phone about any new towers that are available in your area.
I think profile... No, still don't know what profile does.

How do you know? By the signal meter? The signal meter on a phone is a joke. Like the battery meter on some phones (which show full until it drops like a rock and dies), the signal meter can be falsified as well. The iPhone on AT&T shows a 4g connection even though it only uses their 3g network. On the stock Rom, our evo3d shows a 3g connection even if it is only 1x. I would test bandwidth using Speedtest and if those are comparable, then don't sweat it.

she's definitely got better reception. we're talking like, I'll have no bars, or 1, and nothing internet wise is working but she'll have like 2-3 and her net will be flying.
Interesting
There may be something to this.
There is a little shop I like to shop at. The shop is inside a building with a metal roof. Now you would not expect to get a good signal in there. I don't.
I have go outside in the parking lot to make a phone call. A friend of mine's daughter whips out her Iphone one day and starts talking away while in this same store. I asked her who her carrier was. Att. She gets 3 bars in the store.
I researched it and there is only one Att Tower in that area. so we are both using the exact same tower and using the exact same carrier but her reception is so much better.
In general though I don't usually experience a problem with signal strength almost anywhere else I go. No dropped calls ever with the EVO 3D.

Sprint Airave and internet speed

Hello everyone,
I just recently received a sprint airave, free of charge. I don't necessarily need it...and the story of how why they sent it is a long one. Anyway, I usually get 25 up and 4-5 mps down with my ISP. I just moved and love the speed compared to my old ISP. I don't want to sacrifice any speed. So my question is, will the sprint airave reduce my downloads or uploads? Is there a certain way to install it to prevent any reduction in speed?
Thanks
No, it does not effect your speeds, even if it does, you wouldn't even notice it. I have an Airrave from sprint, but in my opinion it is not that great, sometimes it does not play well with HTC phones. Every once in a while you will have to tell sprint to reset it to work properly.
Hope that summary gave you the answer you were looking for.

I set one up at our office at work. I think it works very well. Only problem I have with it I will set certain sprint #'s to access it but if I ever reset it some #'s I put in will just vanish off and I have to go in and redo it. I just recently set it to accept all phones cause I was sick of updating the listing. Also will have issues with hand-offs sometimes from the device to the tower it can dump the call.
They tell you to put the device in front of the modem so it is in charge of your network. That wasn't gonna happen with me, it works just fine behind a router I just have QOS enabled for it & some vonage boxes it works just find. I can't tell that it uses any bandwidth then again we have a 40/5 connection so there is plenty to go around. It will increase your 3G speeds a lot but I still use wi-fi. One of our guys has a pixie which doesn't have wi-fi so the repeater is great for that. As long as you have a decent connection your never gonna notice a difference.

If im remembering right, there are some pretty complicated issues with handoff between cell towers and femtocells (like the airave)
Sometimes you will have to dial "*99" in order to find out if you are the airave or tower. Hope you have better luck.
