Old Eris as Pandora device ONLY? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't used my Eris in months considering I recently purchased an incredible... I've enjoyed rooting and putting roms on both of them but I'd really like to make this old phone nothing but pandora.apk.
Is there a way to have no software but the app which would launch under boot? Or should i find the fastest, cleanest rom and delete most of the apps?
Thanks

i suggest you the mp3rom

Interesting!

Cool idea! You may also want to leave a music player of your choice installed so that you can load your own music on the sd card & play from there. I use the MIUI player

[Q] Really curious...... New to the whole android thing.....

I'm new to the whole Android thing........ I'm not completely happy with a couple of things with my phone... I have the Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile. The music player is good but not quite up to par in my book and was wondering if anyone knew of a different one I could use? And if anyone knew how to sync the phone with my computer or is this possible as well...... Thanks in advance!
I use MortPlayer. As for syncing, do you mean contacts, music, photos...?
Sent from my Vibrant using the XDA app.
with the syncing I'm just trying to get my calender and contacts and everything..... I guess the normal things you would sync with your computer from a windows mobile device......
It syncs your calendar and contacts to gmail. As of today I'm sure if you use hotmail you can set up hotmail as your ' corporate' mail and sync calendar and contacts
If you want to do old fashioned way and sync to outlook you can use samsung kies program

Thanks i really qppreciate the help! Do you know if there is a way to gey rid of the tmobile screen on start up and power off with out having to root or anything like that? Im not quite brave enough to atempt that yet........

I use MixZing music player. You can specify what folders you want it to use for music, has a homescreen widget, and a lockscreen widget (that actually takes over your lockscreen, i don't like that part).
Thanks I really appreciate the help from everyone........ I'm still curious about the t-mobile screens on start up and shut down and if they can be changed without rooting.....
Tmobile has the double twist app. Looks alot like itunes. Haven't really messed with it to much though to give a solid review.

Thanks so much for the last one! So far the double twist seems the most promising! I greatly appreciate the help with the music player!

First off welcome to Android. In answer to your question, no I do not know of a way to remove the bootup screen without rooting.
Also I am using Zimly player at the moment. Had it for a few days and it works quite well. Love the look and feel of the UI

those are system files, so you will need to have root...... unfortunately.
Thanks.... I was really hoping I wouldn't have to root but everything so far is leaning towards having to root!
Unfortunately, You will have to have root to change those. You can use the One Click Lag Fix in the market. This will allow you to root your phone. I have used it and it worked quite well. If anything goes wrong, You can use the same app to unroot your phone.
Thanks I really appreciate all of the help!
Root is cake on the vibrant nothing to fear. Easiest device I have ever rooted.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes it is. I have rooted the G1, the MyTouch 3G and now the Vibrant. The Vibrant is by far the easiest to root.
I haven't tried it but I imagine the Samsung Kies would work the best for any kind of syncing, including calendar. You can download it from Samsung > http://www.samsung.com/ae/consumer/...XSG/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support

+1 on this, the vibrant is by far the easiest phone to root, AND it is almost impossible to brick.....ALMOST.
Also once you root, you can remove all of that bloat-ware curtesy of samsung and tmobile.
That is one of the primary reasons I rooted, to remove all of the bloatware!!!!
About how much app space is taken up bloat ware

If i'm using Astro, all I gotta do is copy the apk to the system folder & install then reboot??
Application fails to install.
Anyone else seeing that?
Update: Installed now. Works. Not sure why it was not installing when I downloaded using the XDA app.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
You do not need to put the apk in the system folder you can just install it from any folder just like you are install an app from the market, no reboot necessary.

I havent tried this app yet, but Im guessing you would just reset the defaults for the program. settings>applications>manage applications>search and tap on the app>scroll down and tap on clear defaults
Has anyone noticed the little equalizer next to the song stays on as the song is playing even when I stop the song I just wonder if this is eating up anyones battery. Also if I do decide to keep this one how can I go about deleting the old one I know it's something pulling the apk from astro but where do I find it at I'm really new to all this sorry.
It foes not overwrite the stock music app so just uninstall.

Why should I have to? This is old I thought everyone knew, least I did.. hell I even posted it at one point in the Nexus section when I used Nexus Phone..

Stock Google Apps Updated (Market, Gallery, Desk Clock and More)

I know this is posted in other sections but i thought i would let my fellow MT4G users in on this
google has released a updated version of their camera app, gallery app, music app and more to galaxy s phone users
these have been extracted and posted here
http://www.androidnews.de/download/test-market-leaked-apps.zip
Unfortunatly, the only apps i have gotten to work are the camera, music, and market (though i see no difference in the market, and i found the camera less featured that the one i already had...if you want to try the camera, it can be installed along side the current one)
I am running RoyalMIUIr3, so those were compatible with this rom, other roms may differ
WARNING: I am having issues installing downloaded apps using the new vending.apk. backup your current one before installing the new version.
I wonder which one of these would work on CM... Gonna try.

New android market!

Yes, the brand new Market apk that I found on the general apps and games forums is working
It's quite nice I must say (lolWP7ui)
Just install as a normal app.
Make a backup of the original first via Titanium backup just in case!
It is a bit laggy at times though :/
I downloaded the new market this morning from the Samsung Galaxy S2 (I move to that phone in August.) forum and it works good. Like you say, a little laggy, but looks so much better.
I like this.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I usually choose speed over polished GUI. Not this time though.
yes works well looks very nice
I'm probably gonna switch back to the old one...
It's way to laggy q_q
Agreed, looks nice but to laggy on my wildfire however on my Galaxy tab it is fine so good work google! I do like the flicking to switch between different categories similar to the google+ app
Market Looks Gr8...
It looks very nice, and it works fine.
Thanks!
Old (2.3.6) Market for those of you who want to downgrade and didn't make a backup.
(extracted from Ruymanca v7.2 system/app)
I don't seem to have any lag (compared with a Nexus S) unless the images are still loading.
Well yes, that's true, but I still prefer speed over eye candy :/
Link is offline. Can anyone upload it on xda?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Thank you for that, uploaded as attachment.
@nejc121
Is your version comes from WF (Sense - auto update) or just copied from another source and you did not know at what resolution is? I installed from the other site and works terrible, maybe if we have apk from automatic updates it will work better?
It came from another source.
And I don't think the WF will ever get this market....
It would lag too much.
It is far to laggy and fc every time. I used it. Links good when it worked so went back to old one thanks for the uploaded

Not necessary. Even backup of old one is not necessary.
You can just uninstall the updates for market to get back to the original one anytime.
[Thinking everyone will be flashing the newer market as installing from apk file, and not added to the customrom.zip and flashed].
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Seriously, why is everyone saying this is laggy? Once the images have loaded maybe 4 seconds at the most the market is smooth. Are you not overclocked? I would like to see the effects with JIT enabled too, however I am using a sense based ROM (wilpuzzle).
Don't seem to have any lag loving the new market
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Well I like it! It`s better than the old one. Not as laggy as you said.

Google Music Jelly Bean Issue?

I can't be the only one with this problem. Every time I use Google Music I have to clear data to get music to work regardless of streaming or off the sd card. Anyone have a fix or idea what's going on? I use Google Music a lot and would like to use it on jelly bean
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda app-developers app
Jelly bean is "not" really designed to work with the rezzy "officially". The jb roms are a W.I.P, expect issues. Devices may have issues and others may not.
Have you tried a different rom? If it does or does not do it on a different rom then you have your anwser(s).

I've tested it on Infection and so far it works just fine. I'll keep you posted as I just installed that rom. I did however install Google music from the play store instead of restore it from TiBackup.

Did you install the beats audio driver (if your rom has it baked in)? After installing beats and rebooting/clearing cache & data for the google music app, it worked great for me and the problems that you described seemed to go away, music plays almost instantly now for me, both streaming and from the SD card, might be worth trying if you haven't already. I've only tested this on the Infection rom so I can't say if this will apply to others.
