Syncing contacts over bluetooth to car issues / problems / won't work - HTC EVO 3D

Do your contacts sync over to your car?
I bought an Evo 3D and now my contacts won't sync over bluetooth to my car! This sucks, I need this essential feature to work or I'll have to return this phone. Dialing from my car is much easier and safer than dialing from the phone. My contacts synced just fine over bluetooth to my car with my old Evo.
The Evo 3D will connect to my car over bluetooth and can work in "phone audio" mode, but how come the contacts won't sync like before?
What's the difference between the Evo 3D's bluetooth and the Evo 4G's bluetooth?

Keep an eye on your phone. Even though its already paired up with the radio it will still ask for permission (on the phone) to connect via BT and access the information.

Will do, I'll try it again but I think lots of people are having this problem. Especially with BMW.

No problems with Ford / MS Sync

If you have a 7 series you have to call the BMW dealership to get the correct code. The 0000 and all of the rest of the standard codes never worked for me. When I called the dealership I had to bring it in and was told it was something with the idrive settings. Hope this helps.

So, you got your 3vo to sync contacts over bluetooth? What model year is your 7? My 5 is a 2006 so I hope that's not "too old" for it to work w/the newer phones. I'll drop by the dealer and see what they can do. May test drive the F10 while I"m there.

I went to the dealer and they couldn't get it to work. On the 2006 5 Series, the iDrive lets you select any pairing code you want, so it's not pre-programmed into the iDrive.
I also tried another user's suggestion of properly using both First Name and Last Name fields in my contacts, I have some single word contacts, like "Home" and "Mom" and that didn't work either
Really sucks, I'm really loving Sense 3.0. I just figured out how to change my lockscreen to display photos from a folder, it's such eye candy!

Mine wouldn't either, until I updated my radio. (Third party head unit) still can't get texts to work tho. And they say it should

Anyone else seeing this "secondary" permission prompt?
I've unpaired and repaired my phone but didn't see any prompts?

Yeah get it on hyundai. Make sure to delete it from car and phone to restart the whole process. Have to do that at work all the time to get it to work fire people (hyundai platinum tech here)

I was experiencing these issues with the stock, unrooted ROM.

Has anyone gotten this to work with their BMW yet?

I think you'll have to wait for an update to your radio.
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D.

Have you ever tried a different dealership??? Also have you figured out what version of idrive do you have??? You have the choice if I'm not mistaken to pay the dealership for an upgrade if there's an upgrade available "which I think there is" but once again it depends on your version of idrive. Normally its covered under the 50k/miles warranty if you were experiencing problems. If you have to pay I think it would be around 2 to 250 and take a little over three hours depending on the dealer you went to.
Edit: you could try this to check you versison. No guarantee it will but I figure its worth a shot. But if it does then that will allow you to searh for an updated version if not then unfortunately you will have to go to a dealership
To access the Secret Menu: (Put ignition key in 2nd position)
1. Push down i-Drive knob for approx 8 sec 2. Turn right 3 clicks 3. Turn left 3 clicks 4. Turn right 1 click 5. Turn left 1 click 6. Turn right 1 click 7. Push down i-Drive knob
To get your CIP code (may be slight variations on the below):
1. Go to menu 'Versioncontrol' 2. Scroll to the very bottom and you should something similiar to "I-05-09-510_050509",
Hope this helps

If you have insurance they will replace lost phones...
If you don't, Sprint extended the open insurance until the 30th... Technically it would be insurance fraud, but I'll leave that up to you. There's no way for them to know.
Well damn it Dave

I think I remember something about sprint family tracker. You could check that out, but I think your gps has to have been on.
Depending on how smart the person that picked it up is, you may be able to install a tracking app from the Market from your computer and find it(as long as they haven't logged out of your account). You may be surprised. I would retrace my steps and see if anyone turned it in. Since it is a Saturday night I would assume that most likely you left it at a restaurant or bar. I would go back to each one of them(once they open) and see if someone turned it in. If not, you will have to report it stolen and get a new one through TEP if you have it. I always, ALWAYS carry TEP on my phones. It's a lot easier to come up with $100 deductible then to come up with $600 to buy one outright.
Ok. I'm sober now drinking my coffee.
I had a beer pong table set out on my lawn (I own a lot of land and am going to be combing it today) but I know its not there. I got in the car with somebody to get cigs (with baggy sweat pants on) at the local convenient store. I went back to the store (piss drunk) and asked the two girls if they've seen it and nada ****ING thing (its not in either of the two vehicles either)
I've called and texted my phone a million times (I have to slow down or my battery will die). I do have the $100 dollar insurance but am bummed out about the new hboot.
What's the name of the app that tracks it and how do I install it to my phone from either my tabs or PC?
Thanks guys.

The name of the app is Plan B. It's by the same company as Lookout.
Here's what it says on their website: "Lookout has an app called Plan B which can locate your phone after you've lost it. The phone needs to be powered on and have a network and data connection. Just go to the online Android Market (http://market.android.com), log into your Android Market account, and install the app to your missing phone. If you are able to install the app and it runs, you will begin to get emails to the Gmail account that you have registered with the Android market with location information."
I also read after you install it, you have to send a text that says "locate." I've even read where someone didn't start getting the emails til the next day. The phone had died, but then the person who had it recharged it!
Oh, yeah. After you install the app to your phone, install Lookout to your tablet, just in case. Not only can you do the locate thing, but Lookout also examines any app you download for malware.
Hope this helps. Keep us posted.

You can log into the market from your computer and have it install plan b on your phone remotely . The phone of course has to be on and your gmail account still linked on the phone. Plan b is for when you have already lost your phone and didn't have a tracking app installed. I just installed the sprint tep app that does the same thing as lookout for for free(I'm guessing you need to have tep for it to work?) That won't help now(plan b is your best shot) but it will help in the future if you ever misplace your phone

Creepy nexus/google

I got my yesterday. It was real late, so I opened up just to check if it was not broken etc.....
Then something occurred to me, my nexus 10 per-configured. At no time did I go through the initial setup as I would do for a new phone or other tablets. This out of the box tablet, unused by me, had all my emails synced, all my apps installed, and it even connected to my home wifi network without ever asking for the wep key ?
Is this normal ? Cause its very very creepy.

It defaults to checked I believe.
I had the option checked and my account wasn't linked.
which is fine because that's what I actually wanted.
Just think, that when they ship them preconfigured (which is hard to believe because that would mean someone has to unpack them and upload all the stuff) and the devices get stolen or "kidnapped" these people would get access to your google account
Google already knows everything about you... doesn't matter what you tick.
Yeah I've found lots of things creepy but also. I think knowing all my wifi passwords was pretty creepy cause those aren't something you really get to choose if Google saves... Google now seems to be affected by what I do on my android phone such as recent navigation paths show up as new cards on tablet.

It doesn't come pre-configured nor they unpack them and upload all the stuff. At the time of shipping the Serial Number is linked to your account you purchase from. Turning it on, it reads your Serial Number and configures it for your account.

Are you saying that Google has your WiFi password?
And it gives this password to their employees to pre-configure your device before shipment?
Imagine, the cost to Google, with the labor being so expensive in the USA, to open each box, take out the wrappings, configure your device, and wrap it again like a brand new unit, with plastics, tape around the box and so forth.
Boggles the mind.
Best regards,
K guys I'm gonna try something new to me: Voice of reason.
Maybe there's a special NFC code that wakes the device and has it connect to some WiFi that is nearby and configure then shut down. If that is the case, all they would need to do is have Samsung ship the devices in a state that would accept a NFC wake (could even be a special hardware wake circuit), scan the device to your order, and leave the box in a WiFi accessible location for an hour and it should all be able to have downloaded. No need for a greasy Google goon to touch your device or know your WiFi passkey. Samsung can seal the box, and Google can just shove info into your tablet from its database. G would never pay an army of people to unbox and play with a million tablets, I am certain.
Do keep in mind that any data that Google has in their database is recoverable - i.e., your privacy being safe just because someone didn't have an opportunity to scribble your wpa2 key down is a naïve notion... Keep your digital life as private as you are comfortable with everyone knowing.

Ford Sync/MyTouch

I know this impacts what is probably a very small percentage of users, but it looks like the DNA may work with the MAP protocol for voice texting over the Ford Sync/MyTouch interface. Need to do some additional testing, but so far it is promising.

Man, you got me all excited! However, I just tried the txt feature on my vehicle and txt didn't work. I have a 2010 F-150 which has SYNC but is pre MyTouch. For whatever reason it seems that only old phones (ie RAZR) support this feature with, at least, my truck.

Why would you want to? Ford sync supports bluetooth streaming audio
I can't even get my stock DNA to pair with my 12 focus titanium.
hmm, must have an upgraded BT stack. It is needed to support the text reading.
Yeah, we have had absolutely no problem with BT streaming over my rezound or my wife's tbolt on our 12 Explorer with mytouch.
If that doesn't work for you, you can always just pop in a usb stick with as much music on it as you want.
The dna does not support the map bluetooth profile. You can't do texting with the Ford sync system, I have tried.

I have an '11 Explorer limited and my MFT only reads my texts to me... but I can't voice-create a reply text.. can you?
Beat em up on sync my ride.com feed those engineers as much info as we get here on XDA. this is a great community with lots of brains... if a 2012 unit is working well user hardware stacks/protocol shouldnt be the failure point. The more info/nagging you give the Ford team the faster we can all receive software fixes. Most should be released as a CIP (inst via USB/no need for an appt) BT Stack changes may require VIP (OEM firmware upgrade) regardless u pay a premium for a beautiful my touch/sync system and they pay teams of coders for customer satisfaction. But its harder to fix if they don't know what's broken. The techs and service writers have their hands tied on a lot of this stuff and social media etc will lead to better products as well as features. Tell them what you want !!!

Ford Edge 2012...
Very strange behavior, but today, for the first time I got a text message. It was one my wife sent me earlier in the day. I can't think of anything new I have done to either my phone or my car.
I was able to reply to her from the preset responses when the car was not in motion. I didn't receive any other text she sent or the response she sent from the preset response I sent her (she got that message and it said it came from Sync).
I am using Handsent for texting on my phone.
I did this before updating to the new DNA firmware (which I did tonight and I will check texting again in the AM).
VERY strange...
I've had my 2013 escape notify me of text and read them back but could not send them. It doesn't always work either kind of hit and miss.

You have to be stopped (not in motion, like at a stoplight) for you to be able to respond back.
I just wish I could figure out why it works some times and not other times to receive texts. If it works once, then it should be able to work all the time.

[Q] Ford Sync blue tooth text message error

Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue with my Note 2 when connected to my Sync system in my Lincoln MKS. I'm able to pair successfully, stream music, make phone calls and it works just the way it should, but when I try to choose the text message option I receive an error message stating that "Text messaging is not supported on the phone currently connected by Bluetooth." Well, ok . . . except it is. I know the phone has the correct blue tooth profile on it to allow SMS to be displayed on Sync, and I know Sync has worked correctly before because it worked perfectly with my Droid RAZR MAXX. I really miss this feature, it's not the end of the world but it's really aggravating that this phone has the necessary profile, Sync has worked correctly in the past (I'm pretty sure it's up to date, that's the one thing I'm still needing to confirm but I would think that if it worked with the RAZR it would work with the Note 2) and yet here I am with no capability of texting. I contacted both Samsung and Ford even though I really look at this as a Samsung issue, and both were useless, though Ford didn't suggest I hard reset my phone (and I still don't know why I humored Samsung on that anyways) but if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
FWIW the text feature didn't work on the Galaxy Nexus either. This points to an issue on the Samsung end. Hopefully it's not a hardware limitation on the Note 2.

Ugh, that's annoying, I wasn't aware of that. It's just so strange because all the pieces are in place - Sync requires MAP, the bluetooth profile loaded on to the Note 2 includes MAP - but clearly something is putting a stop to it. This is the only negative I've found about the phone so far and it's not worth returning it over, but man is it annoying.

I have a 2012 explorer with sync. Messages work fine. Delete the phone on sync....re add it. Make sure you allow all requests from sync on your phone when it reayncs the first time. Trust me.. it works.

Yeah, no, it really doesn't. The only request I get from Sync during the pairing process is for phone book and call history. I've unpaired and re-paired the phone multiple times to no avail. Glad it works for you, but "trust me," it doesn't for me.

Holy **** son, are you dumb? Let me spell it out for you since it seems difficult for you to understand.
SYNC WORK GOOD WITH DROID RAZR. SHOW TEXT MESSAGES. GOOD TIMES.
SYNC NO WORK GOOD WITH NOTE 2. NO SHOW TEXT MESSAGES. BAD TIMES.
"Wonderful Sync" appears to be doing just fine, thanks. If you don't have anything to contribute to actually fixing my problem, stop responding.

Lol, whoa... settle down.
Works for me in my 2012 Focus.
Worked on my Galaxy S3, too, when I ran it stock.
Also, it wouldn't have worked on a stock Galaxy Nexus because MAP is not part of AOSP. Some ROMS did have it built in, though.
Have you tried a Reset on SYNC?

I wasnt running a stock GNex.
Trying to find helpful information on the SYNC side is frustrating. MyFordTouch vs SYNC with navigation vs plain SYNC. Then throw in the different software versions for each hardware version and on top of that trying to decipher which ones are capable of a software upgrade.
Maybe Samsung and Ford finally collaborated on the 2012 models? My F150 is a 2011.

Check out this link http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/#check-compatibility as it will have the compatible phones for each sync system. I understand you have everything setup properly and its not working but its my understanding if the phone isn't listed on the compatibility list then more than likely it wont work. I would also check online once this phone gets a little bit older in age to see if Ford updates sync to be compatible with this phone and a lot of other new ones that have been released. Hope this helps

Sorry but that other dude was just annoying me and not helping me in the least. It's fine to not know the answer, but just admit to it and/or don't post, preferably the latter. Unless you have the same car and phone, what worked for you is completely irrelevant to what will work for me. You at least have a suggestion, too bad it didn't work.

Yeah, I don't think of this as a Ford issue but they are making it unnecessarily difficult to rule them out. I have a 2010 Lincoln MKS, picked it up in June, and there's no way short of taking it to a dealer to know if Sync is up to date or not. Fortunately (uh, I guess . . . ) for me I discovered a pretty nasty transfer case leak when changing the oil the other day, so the big girl is heading to the dealer on Monday to get that sorted out and I'm just gonna have them make sure she's all up to date on Sync, TSB's, have them figure out why I get these intermittent squeaks from the stereo, just get her all in good shape. For the record, here's the facts I am certain of:
FACT: I have a 2010 Lincoln MKS with Sync in it.
FACT: My previous phone was a Droid RAZR MAXX.
FACT: When the RAZR MAXX was connected to Sync, the text message feature worked perfectly.
FACT: My current phone is a Galaxy Note 2.
FACT: I am able to connect my Note 2 to my Sync without issue and am able to make phone calls and stream Google Music over it.
FACT: Here is what I see when I choose text messaging on the screen.

It works just fine on my SYNC....GFY! I was trying to help, and did offer a suggestion.
I figured I'd go ahead and bump this and see if anyone had any thoughts on this issues three months later. I've even rooted and ROM'd the phone hoping I'd find support from the aftermarket but Clean Rom, Eclipse and Cyanogen are all no joy.

Have you tried this rom. It indicates it has MAP support but from CM so maybe it won't work. I'm trying the same things on my Nexus 4 with Ford Sync/Touch. I can live without it, but it sure is hard to sit next to my husband with his iphone which does work with MAP. My Sync software doesn't even have the same settings (that I've been able to find) as the manual shows: "Advanced phone options; Enable MAP." Good luck. I have made requests on several Google threads that they re-instate their previous BT stack which apparently had MAP working before the latest updates.

I almost wish you hadn't pointed that out to me, haha, but I'll flash it in a day or so when I get a chance. I wanted to keep a Touchwiz ROM so I could keep S-pen and particularly multi-window, but I don't really use those features as much as I thought I would when I got the phone, so maybe it won't be the end of the world to not have them.
The whole situation is really puzzling, every piece of documentation I've found states the Note 2 has MAP support out of the box. My vehicle is a 2010 so it's the pre-MyFordTouch, but I have checked with Ford and they've stated it supports MAP, and what REALLY boggles the mind is the Droid RAZR MAXX I had prior to the Note 2 worked perfectly with it, so it's not like I'm asking for something I simply can't have or that hasn't worked before.
Making the situation even stranger is I had a loaner vehicle while the car was in for service, which was a 2012 MKT with MyFordTouch and it worked absolutely perfectly with the Note 2 for the few days I had it, text messaging and all. It's different software than on my 2010, but now I'm not sure who's really to blame, Samsung or Ford.
Oh well. Maybe Motorola will step up with a 5.5"+ screen and a MAXX battery when it's time for me to get a new phone in September and then I can have all the things I want in a phone.
my toro never was able to show SMS messages, and even my stock note 2 couldn't ... got rooted, and put CarbonRom, no joy. Using Jelly Beans ROM. If I get an SMS on the phone, I might see it... just flashed it this morning cause CarbonROM (as of 19 March 2013) didn't have a working tether (without third party software).
Showing SMS texts isn't a deal breaker for me though... sorry your phone doesn't work. I will say Ford Sync has been pretty awesome for streaming audio, and phone calls though. I had heard from my dealer that I shouldn't update my SYNC in my 2010 Fusion Hybrid, as there have been further issues with the software updates. The dealer suggested that there were updates that could be applied (as opposed to the failed 'at home' updates that I attempted to apply with no luck). And I don't want to fix what really isn't broken.
help
This info has to help. Have an HTC m one 8 and Sync.
All features worked fine for 1.5 years. Phone did a system (os)
upgrade and now receive same text message error. Hope this
helps steer the trouble shooting. Please let me know if you
find anything.

Old HTC Eris mods needed

I have 3 old HTC Eris phones, all rooted, and am looking for the old mods that allow them to be set up for Wi-Fi only. I'd like to set them for the grandkids to play with when they're over. I have one logged in, but cannot get the other 2 to accept a gmail login. Thanking you all in advance.

The link in this post still works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25126690&postcount=72. Well, maybe it works. The link works but as to whether or not we can figure out how to actually download the file...*shrug*.
Oh man, I thought I was the only one still playing with this thing! Just dragged it out of my box of old phones (all HTC) and I miss the small form factor SOOO much. Too bad it needs a new touchscreen. $21 on eBay, maybe it'll be worth it for a fun little toy?
If anyone has the old ROM please post it, I'd love to use mine as a VOIP phone for upstairs.
