I've tried a few. Closest looked like it would be "Mr. Number" but it doesn't really look anything up. Basically all numbers show either the city only or nothing. With all the free reverse phone lookups out there, seems like there would be an app that could do a quick lookup and display the info as the phone is ringing. Most of the apps I found (including Mr. Number), want like a dollar a call to do the lookup. Ridiculous!

I am getting killed with spam calls today from a 956 area code, all Mexican.
I add them to my reject list, I am them to an Unwanted contact as well... but they keep coming as different numbers.
Anyone else have some suggestions? I do not have any crap apps... not sure what's causing this.
Call T-Mo, they should be able to block the calls for you
T-Mobile does not block individual numbers. Your options to avoid any calls are family allowances, which you will need to block the individual numbers for, or changing your number.
So far I've added 8 numbers to my reject list. Jesus.

As some predicted, T-Mobile could not do anything, but they did give me more minutes (not needed, but nice gesture).
I think I am going to try and make my first app.... anyone know if it's even possible to have the phone just block an area code before I spend so much time trying to make an app (my first one, o Jesus).
I just checked the market for "Call Block", and there seem to be several apps for it already. At least one (for $2) includes the ability to filter the calls based on area code (example shows block toll free numbers as 800-NNN-NNNN). So yes, it appears to be possible.

GBlocker will do it. It's a pay app & I don't remember what it cost originally, but I love it.
I use it to block all numbers not in my contact list (if they're important, they'll leave a message & I'll add them to my contact list)
EDIT: I just looked on Appbrain & they apparently have a trial version. I dunno if anythings removed, but might be worth your time to give it a look
Hey so i recently converted. Back in symbian (XM 5530) I used to have an app that'd conveniently record all calls/messages (after playing back my msg) if i didn't pick up for like 40seconds. all the messages would be stored offline.
Now i see all kinds of 'visual voice mail' and the likes apps on market but i can't find an app with this simple functionality. Is there such an app? (i'm on SGS2 ). I don't want to use my operator's voicemail and Google Voice doesn't work here.
I hope 'theres an app for that'.

To clarify, i want something offline. an offline app, my crappy symbian phone had one such app. It's simple mobile101. Something that picks up a call if i don't pickup for like 30 secs. plays a message and records the user message to memory. I dont want to pay extra to my operator for voicemail.. I dont want to go through lengthy processes and new services to route my friend's calls/recordings.
Something offline. on the phone. that does't need internet to run. doesn't cost monney and works in asia

Pakistan to be precise. but Like i mentioned in first post. I used to have an app on symbian that'd record all calls offline (no internet, no voicemail operator BS) . It'd just pick up a call if i didn't pickup for 30,40 seconds , play my msg and let them record their msg. All offline, no internet required, no 3rd party call forwarding, so regardless of locality, if such an app exists, it shud work everywhere.
It's a simple task but I couldn't find any app for this simple task on android market which is a bit surprisng, considering how sucky symbian is and how it lacks apps support but it had that app and it is a pretty primary task, i can't use GV, or any third party internet/call-forwarding app.
Was wondering if anyone knows an offline line app that'd do thi ssimple task.
For months I've been getting calls from Heather from "Account Services" about lowering my credit card rate and blah blah blah. I'm on the do not call list and repeatedly ask to be removed from their call list. They hang up on me when I do that or even show a sign of no interest.
I have a call/text filter app that can blacklist numbers, but they use a different number each time (I have at least 5 blacklisted already just from them). I DID find another call filter app (wish I remembered its name) that checks the numbers against their own database of telemarketers/spam so you don't have to already have had the number blacklisted. Problem is... CDMA can't handle calls and internet at the same time. So that app didn't work for me. Is there anything similar that might have an offline database I could just update from time to time? I'm sick of this scam calling me.
And I've already reported them and next move will be to actually record a call but not sure what i'm going to do with that yet. I'm just so annoyed that i'm going to try fighting back.
There is an app called Number Guru. But like you said, it works after the fact.
If you're on that list, you can Sue them in small claims court. It's per offense per call, so you can make some money off of them.
Thanks. I did research the call(ers) and I guess it's a scam going around and has been for years. I found stuff back as far as 2008. They're under investigation but the problem is they keep moving from call center to call center and use different but similar company names. But I'll give it a shot I suppose.

Android Lost. I personally think it's better than where's my droid simply because it has more options as well as stealth options like, for example, hiding the app on the phone incase someone steals it and wants to delete such a program.

The ability to remotely control the phone is amazing. Make it ring, make it talk, make the front and rear camera shoot and show you what it sees.
I really like how you can set so when the person with your phone hit's the OK button, it takes their photo with the front facing camera.
+2 on that used it to find my kids phone that was took at school worked like a champ for me

A nice money management app like money tab! most money management apps are not tablet friendly, with a nice layout like falcon pro! ahh, dreaming in nice, im still waiting for an app like that

I would also be really interested in an ipod manager. It's the only thing I can't do with my tablet that really bothers me.
It would be kinda cool to have a video player with a notepad type thing underneath
I used to set up a netflix window and a word window like that on my pc so you can either take notes or watch tv while working
ipod manager would be hard to build right off
starting it as an mp3 player manager or really a storage utility that focuses on exteral devices with cloud plugins (ftp, dropbox, skydrive, drive, etc)

use the voice recorder to record the call;
and save internal or to sd card.
Just like common answering machines do now.
Why bother with voicemail.
If you have unlimited minutes if doesn't matter.
If you have prepaid like I do, you pay when you call to get your voicemail anyway.
Calls are stored on your phone.
More secure, better privacy.
I just hope this is not a stupid idea.

I think there aren't api functions for that
Root would be required
Though you should be able to make something that calls, downloads and deletes your voicemail
It would dial out (apps do that) with pauses and whatnot record calls (apps also do that)
Though that's really the easiest way
Unless you just use Google voice (or setup your own voicemail server) and download them that way
Honestly gv is the easiest way to go and at best you're hacking something specific to your firmware

One day I will make this app. Unfortunately i currently lack the experience to do so. A note taking app was the idea that got me interested in developing Android apps.
