intresting news. - XPERIA X10 Android Development

it looks like "maxrfon" found wonderful bug in qualcomm mcu bootrom RSA signature verification.
he did not want to share it here, but he shared it for x$$$$, where x not in [0..4] ( will be stupid to do otherwise )
finally bug is published.
what is for ppl here?
that means , yes-yes - total control over secmboot.
REAL "bootloader hack"
of course, exploit, which rewriting semc boot encrypted with some tricks.
but once it runs, it can be defeated, eh ?
so, what i all about.
looks like real deal custom roms will be available for x10.
and.. perhaps, just perhaps... bug is generic for qualcomm MCUs....

Is this SPAM?? -.-

well maybe for you.
for other developers it is signal.
or you really think that security hole can lasts "protected" more that week after solution, which based on it published ?

you devs are GODZ, semc will not be happy i hope it works also on small xperias

I hope this is true... we could see the devs true potential if the bootloader is hacked! Not to mention it would be alot easier for them

Yes, you can. Install what ever the heck you like on your phone once it's unlocked is possible.
@the_laser : This is a very good news, but darn, it'll void the warranty of our phone if you get the bootloader unlocked -- I consider this as the last resort. Hopefully SE will unlock X10's bootloader in the next update.

This is awesome though I don't really understand anything LOL

i would disagree, securtity holes could not last long.
that security hole, in particular.

Great news!
Here you wrote about 1-2 days until it is available. Are you serious about that? Are we that close?
I guess we should wait with any official update then, right? Although the chances are not that big that this security hole will be fixed since you didn't release anything by now, I still think even the GB-update isn't worth the risk of not getting an unlocked/hacked bootloader.

Cracked bootloader:
How far did you get?
Who are working on it?
When will the cracked bootloader be aviable for us?

Didn't want to have a go at you but since I've seen people get slaughtered on these forums when they don't really deserve it I think its only fair.
This thread deserves slaughtering! "They" do know how far they are, but so do I - I know they still haven't cracked it.
So how can they give you a timeline? If they could then they would have cracked it. They aren't waiting for a progress bar to reach 100%, they are actually trying to hack into it. I don't even now anything about android development but I'm intelligent enough to realise it takes work, especially when its not paid for. Let them get on with it and don't pressure them with stupid questions making them look incompetent.
Please close this thread! It's a useless topic

Buddy your post is worthless they dont know the poster above u explained it to you.. they might think their close but they can also run into a problem that would get them stuck for a long time.. so noone knows wait and see like the rest of us.. thats why there is a thread like custom rom dev and excelent progress on cyanogen so you can read whats going on and what the progress is. Read the forum.
And i also think the mods should close this thread as it is a joke.

For you to understand.. Lets say they are @ 99,99%, 1 small tiny thing can enormously slow down the proses or even make it (almost) impossible. No realistic person can put a timeline on these jobs.

Obviously some regular users on this forum don't get it. For a newbie, these forums are very, very difficult to extract exact information from.
There are so many different threads to look at.
Then once you find the thread, sometimes you still can't get an answer because the language spoken, is very much developer only.
A simple, no, they haven't cracked it yet, but they are still working very hard, would have been an easy, quick answer for all who was looking.

Why don't you guys just look at the developers thread and see how far away they are? You make your own assumptions but at least you will know what they are working on at the moment. Like last I checked was working on ram disks. But please no posts. Just look if your curious.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Right now, imho no one works on cracking the bootloader, but the managed to boot from a custom ramdisk, however its still far from a full working image (right now its more a proof of concept) usable for simple users.
That is my impression as well after reading the dev thread.
It seems they "gave up" on the bootloader, or are focusing on booting the stock kernel, and after that instead of running the stock init scripts and OS to load another OS. (but the kernel is the same)
please correct me if i'm wrong.
I'm in no hurry to get a custom OS, but i'd still appreciate if the guys who are working on it could let us know, what exactly they're doing (no timelines of course)

Where is TRIP and Z?

That’s kind of irrelevant because I also have a HTC Magic and the dev's are still developing for that device even though it’s older then the x10. So it’s not really if the device is old it’s if the devs have time or if they even want to develop for the community. And to be honest a majority of our x10 community makes it an undesirable one to develop for :/
So we either need to wait and let them do their thing, or learn how to develop ourselves so we don’t always have to rely on the same 3~5 people.
Also without an open bootloader it makes it harder on the devs D:
There probably a little frustrated now. I mean its not easy doing what they wanna do with a locked bootloader. Maybe they need some time to themselves to clear there heads and start fresh.

Our devs worked very hard to unlock our bootloader so I don't believe you are giving them enough credit when you say its been unlocked since day one. You acknowledge that the Atrix version is not stable. Well that is kind of a problem for us because the Atrix team will most likely be the ones who will port it over for us. There was a thread started about it on the cyanogenmod forums about two weeks ago so you might want to keep that thread alive. A lot of people aren't willing to sacrifice their 4g access for custom ROMs just yet but once the 4g issue is fixed then I think you will see a lot more. You might want to communicate with the Atrix team and show them your support and offer your device for testing if you wish to speed things up. Just make sure you have a nandroid backup.
First rule of Cyanogenmod is don't ask for an eta.
Sent from my Motorola Photon 4g
Not being a Dev (yet. I am eager to learn) my layman's/noob's suggestion would be for the Photon Dev's and the Atrix Dev's to combine forces to create CM7 for both phones. If I am not mistaken, and please correct me if I am wrong so I can learn, the Photon & Atrix are very similar and with the exception of the RIL and a few other minor differences the CyanogenMOD ROM for both phones would be practically identical. Sometimes too many cooks spoil the soup but most of the time the more great minds the better.
I understand that both the Photon & Atrix Dev's put in a ton of work to root & unlock the bootloaders. They did this out of a love for what they do and asked for nothing in return, they should be thanked and praised for their efforts and contributions to the community.

I think it has more to do with people getting annoyed with noob and uniformed questions. Since when did a a different phone with an unstable version and a bootloader that will break 4G become a prerequisite for the Photon getting CM7?

Because for all kinds of warranty and legal issues, someone like Sony would prefer to have a far greater control over what software their hardware is running and a locked bootloader is the first step to that.

Motorola are doing this, they sell "developer" devices, with the bootloader unlocked before you get the phone!

Sony do it too.. All of the xperia range (unbranded) can be unlocked with a simple tool provided by Sony.

I am also in support of starting a petition. What bad can it do? Sony has unlocked bootloaders for a lot of their recent smartphones. If a petition is signed by enough people, they will reconsider and allow Tablet S/P to be unlocked too!
I'm all for trying, but just warning people not to get their hopes up for the petition working. The Tablet S just hasn't sold that[/I] well, and the subset of Tablet S owners on XDA is even smaller. Still worth a shot, I guess.
I will write up a text, you guys will verify it and we will begin a petition. Absolutely nothing to lose. We can also send it around to various android sites to gain some publicity...
Break it! Crack it! Unlease the beast inside!!...
O my god it would be so nice to flash a other rom..

Hopefully a few developers jump on the Woot.com deal today and pick up one , cheap. Also, that sale and the announced replacement may make for future opportunities to pick it up cheaply and make it a better value.
Only takes a couple of devs to make a big difference when you only have a one or a few carrying the most of the development load.
