Is there a way that when you turn the phone on you can go right into recovery not the bootloader? I tried to install a new font from the das BAMF tool kit and as it went to restart it gets stuck in the das bamf the baddest loading screen. I can get it to start in the bootloader but thats not helping me at all. I need to restore it to a previous backup that does not have the font installed.
Volume down button + power
^^ that should give you hboot with option of recovery
Also, adb reboot recovery works iirc.

When I try to start my buddy's G tab in recovery mode (power button + volume up), it hangs on the "bird screen" / recovery key detected screen. The only way out is to manually shut it down with the power button.
The first time I started it in recovery I was attempting to install CWM, and the Android recovery screen came up. I couldn't get it to take any commands with home button or any other, so I shut it down manually and tried again. That's when it stopped giving me anything.
Mine didn't act that way ... did I do something wrong, or has VS changed something in their latest updates?

NV-Flash your device back to a stock firmware and try again. Or you can just NV-Flash a new recovery file. That would also work.
If the stock recovery had a menu that you were trying to select a command from then the device has a ROM based on the 1.2 bootloader and there are a few things you should know.
1) The home key doesn't activate the selected command. It toggles the display. The power key activates the commands.
2) The standard CWM for 1.1 based ROMs doesn't work with 1.2 based ROMs
3) If the device has one of Roebeet's custom 1.2 based ROMs then you can use the built in recovery pack to flash between Stock Recovery and ClockworkMod with a simple command line script. It may even work to recover from the situation you're in now.

Many thanks. I've learned tonight that his tablet has the new 4349 build, and that does have the 1.2 bootloader. That's apparently why CWM didn't load.
Where I am now, though, is that I can't get ANY recovery menu to come up. It merely sticks on the main screen with the recovery key detected message, and I have to manually turn it off to reboot. Therefore, loading anything from a zip would be difficult - which I guess might have saved us since I didn't realize VS had slipped in a new bootloader.
But for future use, I might need to get access to that recovery menu ... how do I do that?

Sounds like stock recovery got flashed over by cwm for 1.1 bootloader. You could try looking over at another site that is something like [email protected] d®∅¡d.com for the new cwm modified for 1.2 bootloader and load it through nvflash. Good luck.
Thanks!

I flashed my Vibrant using the gingerbread bootloader found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117990 and this 2.3.4 rom with voodoo lagfix found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228306.
The gingerbread bootloader has recovery and downloading key remapped, for downloading its VOLUP and POWER and for recovery its supposed to be VOLDOWN and POWER. Getting into downloading mode works fine but I can't get recovery to boot all the time, I got it to boot to the ClockworkMod Recovery with Voodoo Lagfix (red colored recovery a few times) but I think I used the combination of VOLDOWN and POWER and then pressed VOLUP and VOLDOWN only to get it to boot.
Recently however I have been unable to boot into recovery at all, VOLDOWN+POWER doesn't work (only causes a boot loop) and VOLUP+VOLDOWN+POWER then release power at Vibrant logo also doesn't work.
Can someone tell me an easy key combination to get into recovery? I really don't want to install ADB.
Is there not an option in the power menu to boot into recovery?
Have you tried an app to do it for you?
worst case, just flash something else...
You need to make sure your phone is completely off before trying to access recovery. The screen on the vibrant when it is almost off is also black, but that does not necessarily mean its off.
I somehow lost clockwork mod recovery, I think the rom I used uses the red cwm recover mode, whereas the ROM manager wants the green cwm recovery.

I actually think the Red recovery mode is prefered or is the latest version unless u had the E signature verification error. I am almost sure u can re flash another or update the recovery via SD root
Depends on what rom you have loaded it could be Blue or amber as well.
Make sure you have Rom manager downloaded (I assume you do) and enable it. Then, turn off and then pull the battery. Then re-insert the battery and go into recovery manually by holding the vol+ and - and power button. Here is a thing to remember, usually it is... let the screen blink 2 times and after the second blink release the buttons and it should go into recovery. But, depending on the rom it could be 3 times or 4. You may need to experiment on that. I have found if one suffers from getting into recovery ....once you have done it manually rom manager and all the others afterwards work perfectly. Software can be quirky....
hope you get it....
So I unlocked my bootloader on my DNA and have installed TWRP.
Me being an idiot, I accidentally deleted my stock ROM before I could back it up. I'm using's Hasoon2000's tool kit and guide.
I got to
When you agree to it, press the volume up button and press the power button to accept it. Your phone will now restart.
When your phone loads up, go through the set up wizard. Then, on your phone, go to Settings -> Developer Options and Enable USB Debugging.
Under the Extras section, press Perm Root. It will push SuperSU.zip to your phone.

Instead of letting my phone boot up, I went straight to the bootloader and I installed recovery. I wasn't using his guide until I got stuck at the white HTC screen, then I knew I messed up somewhere. I tried to install CyanogenMod 10.1, but when I reboot my phone it just hangs at the HTC boot up screen until I can luckily power down the phone.
I don't know where to go from here. I have access to bootloader and TWRP recovery and I want to install the CyanogenMod 10.1 ROM. It's also S-ON and pre-OTA. I would really like some help here as I am completely lost...
*Edit. I figured out I just needed to relock the boot load and install the factory OS. Guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2017525
Mods can close.
I was doing a backup with TWRP and everything seemed to go just fine. Then after a reboot i unlocked the phone to notice that it was leaving the lock-screen icons on the bottom of the page. I still had access to my notification bar and could clear notifications. Figuring that there had just been a mistake in the boot process, I held the power button to restart the phone. Well it never brought up my power menu to restart. Also instead of making me wait ten seconds until it flashed its lights and restarted, it just restarted in like 3 seconds. Now my phone is stuck on the HTC ONE screen and will not respond to anything including hold the power button.
My phone is rooted an s-off. I know that I have not posted at all on here, but I have been rooting and know how at least the basics on adb shell. I just have never had a phone lock up to this point. If I can at least get to recovery, I should have 2 or 3 backups to run. I just don't want to have to wait for the phone battery to die just to hope I can get to recovery.

Are you saying volume up + power button does not restart your phone nor does any help? Check if your phone is detected in computer and if so you can issue and adb reboot command
also since there is no removable battery HTC added a reboot function press home vol down and power that should do the trick
The phone is not detected by a computer, nor will it charge. Vol down and power is not cutting it off. Right now I am waiting for the battery to die so I can hopefully boot into recovery and do a restore.
Vol up + Power was the key. I was thinking it was volume down. Thanks for all your help

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Just wanted to point out I ran into this issue also (Stuck on white HTC boot screen) after wiping my ROM and Vol UP + Power did the trick for me also (and then Vol Down + Power to get back to the bootloader).
i need help, guys
so attempting to install a new rom, i must have dont something wrong because now restarting the phone will leave me on the htc logo loop and restart. i still have access to hboot and fastboot. but when attempting to load into twrp, it shows the team win logo for half a second and then restarts the phone. then i installed cwm and it does boot into it but whatever option i pick, install zip, wipe data, ANYTHING, restarts the phone.
i have no idea what to do. i tried installing a rom using adb sideload but it stops at around 80%, ive tried installing different versions of twrp and cwm and same thing. i think it is bricked. im using the verizon htc one max. the only option i see left is the ruu toolkit but ive only been able to find the sprint version and then it says that bootloader needs to be locked and i have not idea how to do that from hboot, fastboot, or cwm
attempting to install superuser also fails
if there's anyone here that can help, please, any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks =
Sounds like you're flashing the wrong TWRP.

May I suggest following these instructions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51753483&postcount=129
If you're able to complete those instructions outlined in that post, this should set you up with the latest HBOOT, Radio and TWRP (Recovery) for the Verizon HTC One.
Make sure you read the post fully before you start, especially this part:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip (Be sure it finishes saying 'successful', not 'please flush again immediately'. If it says the flush again, rerun the command)
If you succeed in getting that done, see if TWRP still causes the phone to reboot and get back to us.
Ok, so I was preparing to update to 5.02 now that the UK version is out, but it seems my phone has completely lost recovery.
I'm sure I installed TWRP recovery previously, and I'm currently still on 4.4.4 Rooted with SuperSU installed and I installed TWRP as part of setting that up. However, my phone now will not boot into recovery at all. When I power on the phone, there is no notification LED for me to start pressing Volume Up or Down, it just boots normally into Android. If I just hold down the power button until it turns on, then hold the Volume Down button, the phone vibrates a few times, then just boots normally.
The only thing I can think that's changed is that the phone doesn't have the original MicroSD card in it that I used to have (and that one I no longer have access to).
I have tried re-installing TWRP using this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598, and running the install.bat on the Z2-lockeddualrecovery2.8.10-RELEASE version, and this seemed to go through the process successfully, but no luck. The phone just rebooted to normal Android rather than recovery, and I'm still only able to boot to normal Android, so it seems I've lost recovery entirely.
So is there any way I can get TWRP recovery back on the phone so I can proceed with installing a pre-rooted FTF of 5.02?
EDIT/UPDATE - Ok, I went into SuperSU on the phone and had it forget all of the current Superuser access for Busybox and ADB, then re-ran the installer. This time when the phone rebooted it booted into PhilTouchZ recovery rather than TWRP that I was expecting...? Or is it the same thing?
EDIT/UPDATE 2 - Ok, powered off the phone, then powered back on holding the Volume Down button. Now in TWRP. I have to re-learn Android every time I update/re-root
