Hey all,
I've an interesting issue here... I'm using the stock 354 ROM, rooted (of course), and about once a week, it will reboot and format itself. I turn it on, and it's all in cantonese, and I have to re-setup myself as the user. It's getting frustrating.
I'm thinking this may have something to do with Titanium backup, as I have it set to do a full backup once a week.
Has anyone else had any issue like this?
354 is not an AT&T ROM, in fact it is customized for Hong Kong. See the wiki.
I suggest that you try 351, which is the latest generic (not customized for a region or carrier) ROM for unlocked Streaks. The latest AT&T ROM (353) is Android 2.2 not 2.2.2.
I have asked developers why they use 354 as the base for custom ROMs and keep getting the answer that it is the "latest", but with no real info. When I get the time I am going to do a comparison of the two.
For full backups I recommend installing StreakMod Recovery and using nandroid. It isn't automated, but it works very well. I backup my phone weekly. My experience with TB has not been great, except for the freeze and remove system app tools.

Hi, I have an issue with the notification bar. It automatically pops up when I unlock my phone. Roughly this happens once every 3-5 times I unlock the phone. It's annoying because it blocks the screen and I have to manually close the notification bar every time this happens.
I'm using a Singapore version of Streak with stock Starhub Android. Version 2.2, build number 12903. Any help is appreciated. I'm sure it's not related to Launcher pro because I tried other launcher and this happens.
It's a bug in the stock roms from about that age, i think it also happened 322 which was released roughly the same time. Only way to get rid of it is to wait for them to release a newer starhub rom or upgrade to an unlocked/retail rom.
On an unrelated note: would it be possible for you to provide a nandroid dump of it? 320 (your rom) isnt available on the ota server and it would help a lot to have a nandroid dump of it.
How can I do that? Care to share some guides? I'm new to this.
If I make such a dump, does it mean I or anybody else can restore to this version if need be? I'd be glad to if that's the case.
Do you know how to use fastboot? there are instructions on how to install clockwork or streakmod in the dev subforum.
Having a nandroid dump means that if you or anyone messes with their 320 install and bricks they'll be able to restore it without having to take it back to dell for support since none are currently available
Nandroid always hang at backing up firstboot. I myself have updated from starhub 320 to 351 to get rid of the notification bug.

OK... I've updated to 351 as well. Exploring the new firmware now
Hi all,
I have been on xda-dev for years and my new Streak arrives tomorrow. I have read a ton of posts all over this section including the wiki and faq's but if someone could help me with a few basic questions that would be great.
I'm assuming my streak will arrive with 2.2 (froyo) or do they still come with 1.6 on ?
What is the best course of action for me rom wise ? I run a very lightweight rooted 2.3.4 rom on my Nexus S and would like something similarly light on my Streak. Can I just root the standard 2.2 (and strip out the bloat) or am I best off installing a custom rom (maybe Streakdroid 1.9) right off the bat ?
Really excited about my new purchase and looking forward to contributing.
Thanks in advance.
maltloaf
The closest thing to 2.3.4 is djsteves gingerstreak 2.0
It still needs a little work but is looking pretty good.

I don't particularly need gingerbread just lightweight, fast and rooted
Streakdroid 1.9 with baseband 354 is super light. You can root through rom installation or through flashing superuser.zip.
You'll need clockwork recovery or streakrecovery (or whatever) to do most of this.
When I got my phone in feb/march it had 1.6. When I got my replacement it had 2.2. You'll want a launcher (i'm sure you know) because the dell launcher is meh.
it arrived this morning with 2.2 on it. I updated with the official update to 2.2.2 and rooted by fastboot flashing streakmod recovery and then superuser.zip.
Feels a bit sluggish at the mo so have installed SPB Shell 3D (as I had already bought it) and that's a bit more spritely than stageUI but will have a look at streakdroid 1.9 before I play too much I think. I quite like the dell widgets but I can see how the novelty would wear off quickly.
ok noob question. My baseband reads as GAUSB1A135100-EU
am i ok using that with streakdroid 1.9 or do I need to flash the one in the streakdroid thread (or some other) ?
many thanks again.

my suggestion is to upgrade to stock 354.
remove the bloat
remove dell stage ui and widgets and go with adw launcher or launcherpro
don't load more then 20-30 apps..
you will be screaming...
you can use a flashable zip to root, or use gingerbreak to root.
Thanks for the replies...
Which one is 354 and where do I get it ?
I've installed streakdroid 1.9.0 and it's really nice but i'm getting random reboots, even through factory resets. I think stock/rooted/lightened is the way forward for me personally.
This page is full of great info and links to all the roms http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dell_Streak#Official
OK, now I'm on 354 rooted, installed ADW launcher and much happier with it.
What method do people use to remove unwanted apps ?
cheers,

root uninstaller.
( from my personal experience , i have not seen any benefit from removing system apps
I'm inclined to agree after some investigating. On other handsets certain system apps are sometimes loaded into memory even if not being used.
I installed system panel lite from the market to see what was running and only saw items I had started.
Tomorrow I will be battling with locking the default orientation to portrait!
Cheers,

i use titanium backup to uninstall apps.
Getting occasional internet drop outs. Data just stops even tho signal is good. (Doesn't happen on the same sim in my nexus). Would this be common and might a different baseband help?
Thanks again
I'm liking the 351 baseband more than I did the 354. My internet connection is more stable and I am able to switch between HSPA and WiFi in one click, whereas I wasn't able to with 318.
For unwanted apps, I use Root Explorer and go to the system apps and just delete it, it's worked better for me than Titanium.
But then I flashed StreakDroid 1.9 with the noapps in my install.txt and there really isn't anything left to get rid of if you flash that route, that's about as bare as it gets.
Although I do go and eliminate the stock browser and the stock gingerbread launcher and replace them with my preferences
Ok how do I go to a different modem firmware? Do i have to flash a whole Rom?

Nope, you just flash a different baseband through fastboot, like I mentioned before, I decided to go stick with the 351 and have been happy since.
Had a look round but couldn't find the amss file (or any others for that matter) for 351. Are they all stored somewhere I haven't come across?
I had a go at downgrading to the full 351 Rom too but ran into problems. It seemed not to want to restore a Rom with an older date than I was running. I think the amss file will do fine for now though. My net connection really is hit and miss! Almost like the cellular radio is going to sleep.
Thanks,
malty

Ok bro, did the legwork for ya.... (hit that Thanks button) and here's Manii's page where you can find the basebands and most anything else
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/
Am working on the wife's Razr, trying to revert back to stock rom because all of the custom roms we've tried have issues/bugs that make her mad. Currently running Arctic 2.3.1 VZW, kernel 2.6.35.7-ge88eaad [email protected]#1, baseband CDMA_N_03.1C.79P LTEDC_U_06.35_0B. Using Razr Bootstrapper to get to revcovery, I've tried installing VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-73_DHD-11_TA-3_1FF_02.xml and VRZ_XT912_6.5.1-73_DHD-11_M1-2_1FF_01.xml but the installation for both aborts after a few seconds. I can install other custom roms, so I'm not sure what the problem may be.
If I can't get back to stock, what is the recommendation for the least bugging rom out there? Specifically, she wants the calendar to work (it hasn't been on a few different roms I've tried). She doesn't need anything fancy, just so that everything works as it should.
Good day All.
I know I'm asking a lot, but barring trying it (on my daily driver - *gulp*), does anyone know if there is a clean upgrade path from
OEM GB
android version 2.3.6
baseband N_01.77.37P
webtop WT-1.2.0-110_OLY-6
kernel 2.6.32.9
rooted, unlocked(I think its unlocked, dosint say it but very slow to get past initial Motorola logo but no red 'unlocked', working webtop)
to the new much awaited ICS ROM (ThatROM).
I'm looking for things like 'yip, this will work, just install the zip update file and all your stuff will still be there and it will be a clean upgrade'
or the equally valid 'Hell no!, what are ya, you must be dreaming mate, no way you can expect to go from OEM GB to a leaked OS and still keep all your settings, contacts data on your SD card (internal and external). Its a clean wipe or nothing if you want to go ICS etc etc.'
many thanks for any/all replies.
cheers

I just did this yesterday (was running stock GB, rooted, unlocked) and upgraded to AtrICS. Was pretty smooth. Everything basically works, though I am having some issues with failing to get mobile data connection after the phone has been up awhile.
I wiped /system, /cache, and /data. But if you take a TitaniumBackup of all your apps before flashing the new ROM, you should be able to restore most of what your settings and apps. I recommend you selectively restore your most important apps and settings first rather than trying to blindly restore everything. I had some issues before (after doing a factory wipe of stock) with doing a full titanium restore.
thanks for sharing your upgrade experience.
I might attempt this myself now.
many thanks
cheers

Artics v2 has been on my phone for a day now. Not one issue...... Not one. But i don't use webtop. Battery drain is the biggest concern but it can last the day.

Hello kind people of XDA,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) have been running stock rom with root for quite a while, and been happy with it in general, until i bricked it(not sure if term "brick" would be correct) by trying to put some new fonts using an app, well basically being hasty and cocking things up.
So now i flashed
I9300XXALE8 Download (Thanks To SamMobile!)
Base Firmware: I9300XXALE8 (4.0.4)
Region Europe
Country: United Kingdom
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 13 May 2012
Modem: XXLE8
CSC: OXAALE8
Change List: 554452
using odin obviously, my previous backups from kies are gone (no idea how/where) and my SD card died on the occasion, which is an issue ill have to sort out at a later date.
So i have decided to ditch stock rubbish and just go on with custom goodies. Could i receive recommendations on which rom to flash for keeping, as in it would have everything working that one might need without all the bloatware etc. , plus back-up utilities and all that i might need in case i flush my phone down the toilet or something, so i can have everything backed up and set up my back-up or new phone just the way i left this one(to the possible extent)
Also, a way to revert to my original rom, to be able to use KIES in case i want to sell it (S4 is on the way might as well upgrade). Now that i flashed the new rom i believe all the stuff in settings has no relation to my earlier rom which was unlocked italian or french one, as i am unsure.
Info from under the battery:
FCC ID: A3LGTI9300A
SSN: -I9300GSMH
RATED voltage battery etc.
S/N RV1C62ZKECR
how could i track down which rom i had originally?
sorry for the lengthy post.
Well, CyanogenMod is my favorite, and if you want to revert, just use Triangle Away
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.triangleaway
and flash stock rom via Odin or MobileOdin.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro
The rom backup can be made with Clockworkmod, and the rest (apps, contacts, etc) can be made with Titanium Backup.
(Not that they're not included in the CWM backup)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
And there's no need to get the same version of ofw if you're going to sell the phone.

Ok so i stuffed cyanogen mod 9.1.0 and clockwork mod recovery 5.something, still couldn't figure out how to update with .img file i get from them.
looks wonderful, just one more thing, will clockwork in recovery using backup/restore backup everything as in contacts apps etc. and be able to restore when i update CM to later version?

Cwm makes it as a whole package, so use Titanium backup to backup contacts, apps, etc.
You don't have to necessarily wipe data if you're going to update to cm10 or 10.1.

So eerything is working jolly good thanks guys, but i still got a few issues
Most importantly wifi tether isn't working... i did find a few posts, but failed to find a solution as updating from 9.0.1 cyanogen didn't seem to fix it to others and is reported with nighties of 10.whatever versions... 3rd party tether apps don't work either it seems.
Also wifi signal seems to be quite a LOT weaker than in stock samsung rom, (phone sitting right next to my laptop, on which im sharing wifi, getting 2-3 bars out of 4. can't even get wifi at home if I'm in the next room, where my lappy gets 4-5/5 bars... again wifi i use quite a lot.
on the other hand customization is amazing i shall go try nighties, maybe they will have those features working properly... Maybe someone could suggest some other roms which work well with S3?
EDIT: updated to latest nightie release everything works like a dream, wifi signal is back to normal, tethering works a dream(quicker setup than stock rom, as stock would display SSID but would take a while until i could connect to it to get internets) CWM updated too, in 9.1.0 it wouldn't ask for SU permissions thus wouldn't flash a new version.
Interesting how nightie seems to be working smoother and better than an older stable version too. Anyways now just need to go donate good people some money for beers, they deserve a few
