Best way to move data between devices? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Picking up my Atrix this weekend. What's the best way to move data and settings from my N1 to the Atrix? Application data, game data, LP settings, ringtones, notifications, etc. What do you all recommend to minimize the set up time on a new device?
Thanks in advance!

Titaniumbackup for app data, game data, LP settings.
ringtones and notications. you can just copy the "media" folder over to your atrix internal sd.

+1 Titanium Backup
Also, SyncIt will sync your game data (or whatever folder you point it at) across devices. So if you play a few rounds of Angry Birds on your N1 that will be reflected on the Atrix and visa versa.

Thanks for the info! Quick follow up on SyncIt. Is this cloud-based syncing? In other words, set it up on N1, it syncs with their servers. Set it up on Atrix, and it pulls that data down from their servers? Or does this just sync to a storage card that you swap between devices? Either way, I do like that idea. Just have to figure out where all of my game data is being stored now lol.

[Q] How to migrate from another Android phone?

I am about to upgrade from HTC Hero to SGS2 and I wonder what is the best way to migrate my apps (I've got more than 100 installed)?

must you really bring everything across? I look on new phone as a chance to clear out the crap...
Titanium backup perhaps, if you must bring it all over...

That's exactly what I did, although I had to copy all the files from my sd card onto the internal memory for TB to realise there were backups to restore.
@Pulser ... how dare you call my **** crap ;-)
My method when I want to start fresh is backup stuff like astrid to the sd and then backup the sd to save the various data. I use myappslist off the market, it will generate a list of all the apps you have which you can email to yourself. I like to put the barcodes in there so I can just go directly to the app on the market. You can also use plain text or html or a combination. On the new phone I go to the market and download barcode scanner, open up the email I sent myself and start installing the apps onto the phone. If you're like me a couple will be ones I never used but forget to unistall so I skip them. Then I open up my backed up sd and move over the data, ringtones etc. I usually hang onto the backup for a week or so until I'm sure I have all the data moved across and then I delete it and make a backup of the new setup.
I always do this when switching to a new rom or switching to a new phone. In between I use ti.
I am guessing you have a Google account to download apps from market, when you log in to the your new phone with your google account and choose to sync your phone with Google your apps should automatically transfer to your new phone.
You can view and load apps via https://market.android.com/ instead of scrolling through your phone its much easier and when you click 'Install' on the website it will send the app to your phone and install automatically. https://market.android.com/account will show you all your apps.
Thanks a lot, guys!
If you log in with your Google Account on install it will start downloading all your apps from the Market anyway. Just make sure you are on wifi when you do it!
If you want saved game states (Angry Birds), you will need to use Titanium on the old phone to backup the settings and then use it on the new one to restore. (Requires root on both).
Upgraded from a Hero myself, and all my paid-apps were there waiting there in the marketplace. It was however only the paid apps, the free apps I had to install again. I did have a minor hitch getting the phone contacts and SMS off the Hero as there wasnt a batch backup function available, but luckily there are plenty of market apps that can backup and restore your contats and SMS.

Switching from Galaxy nexus

Hi,
I have Galaxy nexus, and I just bought a S3, i want to switch my whole data to S3, Pictures, Music, Videos and App data.
Any easy way?
Root both devices, install Titanium Backup on both. Backup all apps on your old phone, move TitaniumBackup folder to your new phone, restore all apps. That will give you all the installed apps + data.
While you're at it, you can also copy all data on your old phone's memory to the new one. That should transfer the remaining data (photos, videos, etc). Phone settings like probably won't get transfered though (ringtone settings, wallpapers, etc) as they depend on the rom and are hard to transfer.

If you haven't already unlocked bootloader, you'll need to use a method that doesn't wipe data.
This is one recent possibility.
I wouldn't put data from a Gnex tothe s3. And ur apps will DL as soon as u log in gmail or market.
Thanks Everyone
I managed to transfer apps by the method you mentioned, now i need to move pictures, music and videos
I dont want to root my S3
Can't you just use a computer?

I did that as my last resolution, I was looking for something like the option RIM got in it's application
its always best to manually transfer Pictures, music and videos . "Cut & Move"

Agree, just to elaborate this folder is DCIM usually. I'd recommend not copying over your data from titanium and do a clean start.

Transfering apps to other phones

If I use apps2SD (or something like that) and put a bunch of apps on the SD, then transfer the card to a different phone, will they still work? provided I'm using the same google account on both phones.

No the a2sd only moves part of the app. There are better methods. If rooted, tibu (titanium backup) is the best. Im only going on my own personal experiences, so dont flame people.
Thanks a lot! I'll definitely check it out.

Totally agree. Nothing beats TiBu. The pay version is even better and worth the money.
Does this mean I then copy the app files onto my computer and create an offline mini-library of apps?

TiBu copies the apps to your sd card. The apps can then be restored from there. With the pay version you can also have the backup synched with dropbox or google docs.
haha it would be awesome if you could run apps from the cloud.
If you use alternative a2sd methods (as opposed to the 2.2+ native method), and you use the same method on both phones, then yes, theoretically it is possible that on the other phone all your apps would just "work". However you would have no personal data (config, preferences, customization...). Either way, I agree TiBu is a much better method of transferring apps between devices.

[Q] SD Card Backup Regime

So now that I have a phone with an internal SD card, I am particularly worried about data, or what would happen if I can no longer take it off of a device. Previously an SD card could just be removed from a dead device, but not so now.
I'm using foldersync to mirror data, but I was wondering what were the essential folders to sync. I can figure out most of them, but I'm struggling with the Android folder in root. Is there any valuable information in here or is it all temporary and so not required to be backed up?

if you don't care about storage space and automation and you happen to use TotalCommander for PC, it has perfect "Synchronize Dirs" feature, with in my personal experience (after many tests of different solutions) wins every time due to high customisation, ease of use and option of binary comparison
You don't need to backup the Android folder. It's mostly just full of data files for certain apps. Like Google Maps saved map data, cached music from Google Music, game data, small preferences files for some apps etc. Nothing important. Even if you delete the contents of the whole Android folder, they'll be re-created on boot or when you run those apps next. Map data, Google music etc should be downloaded again manually. It's a waste of space to back it up as it can be 2GB or more sometimes. Generally, only backup your personal data like pictures, videos, music, downloads etc. Things which you've put there yourself. Also backup any folders of backup related apps like SMSBackup&Restore, Titanium Backup and recovery folder with nandroid backups. Personal files + backup app data is all you need to backup from the SD card. Everything else is insignificant and will be recreated anyway by the respective apps.
Thanks sashank, that's what I thought. It's a pain to backup because of the size and usage.
Looking at the docs however it seems apps can put whatever data they want there, including settings. So I guess this depends on the app itself and how well it behaves itself. I guess I will have to be discerning and backup individual files in the folder depending on how important the app is to me. Which sucks.

Well I'm using Foldersync to do this automatically already. I just didn't want to spend time and energy maintaining a backup of redundant cache data!

Transfer of apps with all settings and data to new phone

Hi guys,
I want to notice you I really tried several times to search this issue before I wrote this question. I like to know how to trasnfer apps with ALL settings and data from old mobile to new phone. I know the transfer of apps is done by backup on Mi account or Google account and cloud settings in some apps. But lot of apps are without login and settings on cloud. For example I do not want to setup lot of apps again such as Kodi with lot of settings, Total Commander with lot of settings for LAN/FTP connections, Poweramp, etc...
You will, need root and titaium back up for that. Other wise there is almost no other way.

OK then and when I will have both phones rooted, where I can find the data / settings of the apps in the Android folder in the internal storage?
data/data or data/app???
