Hi,
I am trying out the Galaxy Tab and I find it to be rather nice to use. However, I have encountered an issue that I have not been able to resolve. I have a favorite web site that I go to at least once a day. It displays poorly with the text over writing other text, to the point it is almost unreadable. The default browser offers the option of Mobile or Standard. The site opens in mobile mode and so I selected Standard and the page gives we an error 404, if I remember correctly.
The other issue is, I need to open a link on the site page that displays a PDF document and another link that plays a MP3 audio file, while staying on the web page. The Galaxy Tab will not allow me to have both open. If I have the PDF file open, I can't get to the MP3 file. If I have the MP3 open, I can't open the PDF without closing the MP3.
I wonder if the site needs Java or some other software to make it display and function correctly? Any ideas what I could be doing wrong.
Strangely, My wife's iP#d1 handles this site with ease. Also, my Google Cr-48 handles it just fine. I am at a loss to figure this out. If I can't solve this problem, the Galaxy Tab goes back tomorrow as I am tired of messing with it.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.
I've noticed a few pages the stock browser renders odd, such as quoted text here on xda. Opera mobile works fine, scrolls smoother, and doesn't have text input lag. I'd recommend it.
Thanks for your reply.
I tried Opera, Dolphin HD and Beta 6, Maxthon and of course the default, Chrome. They all produced the same result. So far, only Safari renders and allow the PDF and the audio file to run concurrently.
care to share the two sites hence we can try a work around. try typing the command about:debug in address and hit go. New options will appear in settings, try changing the uid to desktop and rendering normal and disable wide page display. Just for a try!

Thanks for the good tips. Those changes made the browser's display much better. It got rid of the garbled text. Question, will these changes remain after a re-boot or do I need to reset each time?
The other issue of not being able to have multitasking while on the subject site remains. The site that I am trying to fully access is www.torahclass.com. When I select the link to open the audio file and then open the PDF the audio quits. I cannot get back to the web page. If I am on the web page, I can't get back to the PDF.
I just spent one hour at Best Buy and they had five different phone/tablet knowledgeable staff take a turn a making it work. No luck! I asked if it would work on the HP TouchPad and their response was no. However, they claimed the multitasking could be done on the Playbook. We were not able to test their hypothesis due to the fact that the Playbook did not have access to their wi-fi.
So, I am beginning to think that this is an issue with Android and WebOS that remains to be solved by Google and HP. I like the Playbook, but I am concerned about RIM's future. Owners might end up with no support from the mfg.
Anyways, thank you both for your help.
try xiialive app, when clicking on an audio stream in browser choose to play with xiialive and once started press home and continue browsing with the stream playing in background! Issue resolved.
Works. Thank you.
As stated in thread title: Is there a way to disable the swipe between tabs gesture for Chrome on Android?
The gesture interferes with my ability to use certain websites that I now rely on that currently do not have an app for Android. I've tried searching for an answer to this and I've just been flooded sifting through irrelevant results for Mac, custom ROMs, etc. So far, the only solution to this has been to use another browser, but I enjoy the seamlessness of Chrome's remote tabs feature. I would like to know if there is an advanced settings section similar to "chrome://flags" for the desktop or a workaround that involves root.
If someone can answer this it'd be greatly appreciated.

None that I know of. Use another browser for those websites.
That's the same problem I have with some Google apps, they are always looking nice, functions well but with limited options for customizations. The same problem with their Nexus devices too, Great devices, no external storage.
I believe some people at Google must really love some of the Apple policies.
Too bad!

Thanks for the response.
The site that is bothering me the most is the mobile version for Nirvana, recently my favorite GTD (Get Things Done) tool. This has become quite an issue for me being able to productively manage tasks on Android since they currently don't have a working Android app. The irony (in response to your point) is that their mobile site works perfectly fine on Chrome for iOS. I only have problems with Chrome for Android and I've found it even affects Google sites such as Google Reader Play that also use swipe gestures. I figure this has to be related to the way gestures are handled on Chrome for Android since I do not have as much problems with the stock browser or with Dolphin browser.
Hopefully, this is fixed in a future update or the developers for Nirvana can update their Android app from an alpha build to a stable beta version sometime soon.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I can't stand when there are multiple threads for the same problems/topics...
I too would love to disable this "feature". It is useless to me, as I rarely switch between open tabs. I like being able to close the tab I was previously on before switching. For example, I'll go to a site (say, hardocp.com) and open stories I want to read in multiple background tabs. When I'm done opening links from the main page, I'll close that and start reading the other stories. When I finish one, I hit the tab button, swipe closed the tab I'm leaving, then select the next.
The swipe to switch tabs feature drives me up the wall. It has also seems to have become more sensitive on my newest phone (S4). I am usually just trying to move a page that is zoomed in left or right when the piece if crap tab swipe invokes. I find that I have to stay within the center third of the screen to keep it from happening. It's even worse since I don't use the tab swiping in the first place.
The absolute worst, however, are mobile pages that utilize swipe features. They are practically useless. I normally get to the point where I'm about to throw my phone through a wall before I give up and force the page to open in desktop mode, which of course, only works about 1/2 the time in chrome. I usually end up switching over to Dolphin (which uses too much memory for me to use it as my default browser).
Chrome/Google really need to add an option to disable this junk. I often wonder how many people are actually using it (I'm sure Google is tracking this through statistics). I love chrome but hate this "feature"....

Holy crap it has definitely gotten worse! I also have an S4. You literally have to be in the dead center of the screen before starting your swipe gesture. I'm assuming they changed the code recently to increase the space on the sides that initiates a tab switch. Because you used to have to have your thumb right on the edge of the screen in order to swipe tabs, which I was somewhat okay with. Because it happened so infrequently that it took me a while to even figure out what was triggering it. Dumb feature.
That sounds like a good theory. It definitely was not an issue until recently.

I agree 200%! I also have an S4 and this is unbearable!
From reading other forums, I've found that if you use more than one finger and chrome pans instead of switching tabs. OR, as mentioned here, start your panning at the center of the screen. I find both annoying as I've always panned in all of my androids with on finger and from the furthest point to get maximum page movement.
This is being tracked under chromium issue 117657
Issue 117657: User reports difficulty scrolling sideways (page pan); tab swipe gesture recognized instead

VERY happy to see it being tracked.
S4 user here. I have exactly the same issue. Was hoping to find some options under the about:about menu but to no avail. Can't wait for an update. Hopefully they will let you set a border for when the tab switching kicks on as opposed to scrolling sideways.
I just tried out Chrome Beta and it seems to fixed in the most recent version.

You're welcome.
Before buying my One X+, I used to own an HTC Desire HD.
In the Internet app, whenever I wanted to share a picture (say on Whatsapp, GMail, Viber or any other program) I used to long-press on the image, and from the popup menu, I would select "share image with", then from the new popup screen I would choose the program I want to choose said image from.
Now, with Jellybean, my only options are to:
Save image
View image
Set as wallpaper
or
Share link
no "share picture"
And unless I'm mistaken, this should be bugging a whole lot of other people too, as this is not limited to the Internet app, but the same applies to Chrome (where the only 3 options for an image long-press are "save, open or open in new tab"
Because of this, I now have to save the file, go to Whatsapp or to the Gallery app, select the picture, and share the picture, then when i'm done, i have to delete the pic from the gallery, because well... i don't like to pile up stuff i no longer need.
I searched the forum and the web, and couldn't find a fix for it.
Which is worse, either very little people are raising this issue, or I'm unable to find these posts... everybody with Jelly Bean is suffering from this problem, but Googleing for "share image with option directly from browser on Jelly Bean" doesn't really yield that many relevant results! The keywords are just too generic!!!
So my question is: Can this situation be remedied by some sort of add-on to Chrome Mobile, a custom apk that modifies Chrome's sharing options or something???
PS: I know I can share the URL of the picture, but that's not the point now, is it? I want to be able to share the picture, not its URL.
Update: I just installed Firefox Browser for Android, and it has the option to share an image directly from the browser! It's a pity I won't be using Chrome anymore since it's super fast and it allows for bookmarks sharing between my laptop and phone, but well... I guess I'll have to make do with Firefox for now.
I don't get it though... why would Firefox have the option enabled and Chrome be so retarded that way? Pity! Firefox even has an extension that allows for a full-screen experience, like with the Internet app!
Chrome needs to improve on these basic stuff real soon!!! For many, like myself, not being able to directly share images from the browser is a deal-breaker (as soon as I found a browser that could)
Im wondering everyone's favorite browser for Android? I was using Chrome as it came on my phone, I then switched to Firefox because it's what I use on my PC. I found Firefox to operate the best, except when it came to bookmarks. You couldn't organize them or make folders and that really irritated me. I switched to Dolphin, which I love the bookmarks, I can make folders and organize things the way I want. But Dolphin has a problem remembering passwords, it chooses here and there where it wants to work. It also has some pages that will just not work right or even allow me to type in some fields where if I go back to Firefox it works fine.
So, what's everyone find as the best? I need to be able to organize bookmarks, I like websites remembering passwords, and I like the on the fly switch between desktop and mobile view of websites. I like the visible tabs options for easy switching pages. I don't feel Dolphin is cutting it, I run into alot of times where it just unexpectedly shuts the browser app off and I loose everything. That's rather frustrating. I'm looking to test a new one out. I want to be able to transfer my bookmarks easily. When leaving FFirefox I had to manually one by one copy and paste every page URL and re-bookmark them....

My personal favorite is an older version of Opera Mini - v7.6.35766, to be exact. It has such a good interface, with a customizable quick dial on the new tab page, folder-able bookmarks, and even the ability to save webpages so that you can view them without Internet access. It also remembers login forms perfectly. I've been using it for years - every time a new version comes out, I try it, but none are as good IMO as v7.6.35766.
I posted this on the Kiwi Browser thread more in mourning at the lack of support and updates Kiwi has received in the last year or so.
So I stumbled on Soul Browser and it's been excellent so far. Extremely fast and lite. Unfortunately it doesn't have extensions but it's got virtually every function and customization you can think of. Digging into it's background it seems to be from a developer out of the UK so should be safe. It's on the Play Store but not open source unfortunately.
Everything is good and all but i couldn't find the toggle to turn video overlays on fullscreen. i watch something on youtube in portrait mode, when i make it fullscreen, video pauses, sometimes starts from the beginning and i don't like that overlay with full of buttons. How do i turn that of and have smooth transition?

I have no idea. Comment on the Playstore and the developer usually responds quite quickly. There's so much customization I haven't even touched yet.

Read the last 5 or so pages of the Kiwi thread on here and most of your concerns are answered. I, and several others, had the same worries but it seems Adguard DNS takes care of most issues. Trackers etc are all Google stuff anyway according to ClassyShark.

Thanks, yes I've just come from there! I use nextdns so nothing gets through to Google any way. It looks more a Samsung Internet base than Kiwi/plain Chrome. I just wish there was more info. And I'm so tired of being unable to migrate bookmarks, logins, cookies, etc between browsers!

I understand it's Chromium based but so is Samsung so all the same.
I'm having issues using it with NextDNS. It works but I get constant SSL errors on Soul which I don't get on Samsung or Kiwi, so there's something NextDNS doesn't like in there but I can't find it in the NextDNS logs. However it works fine with Adguard DNS and all trackers etc are blocked. I added Energized Ultimate to the adblock host list in Soul as an extra measure.
I imported my chrome bookmarks with ease using the html file. So no issues there.
A very good browser and can be greatly configured
(bars on top or bottom in custom size, long press settings, swipe settings, back/forward gestures, double finger gestures, no reload when back/forth, skip to page beginning, floating scrollbar, own blocklists, full auto dark mode, video downloader and much much more). I've never seen a better mobile browser, it's crazy.
But my problem with it is that it doesn't launch native apps from links:
Youtube is launched only if you google for youtube, but not from embedded videos; reddit is launched only if you use native reddit app and not third party one; ebay app doesn't launch and so on. Dealbreaker for me - I feel like on iOS.
Another thing is adblocker isn't consistent. If you jump through tabs and apps and then go back to prev opened website, sometimes there is suddenly an ad running, which was blocked before.
So overall it feels kinda buggy and you can say it's made by one person and on top of that - by a completly unknown entity (no mail, website) originate in Asia.
So I'm back on Samsung Browser beta which is still missing few nice to have things, but is fully baked.

I use Vanced and it launches directly. Check settings and enable the toggle to allow YouTube launch. I don't know about the ebay app but complaining about a 3rd party reddit app isn't the browsers fault.
I've switched off the built-in adblocker and use 1Hosts Pro and Energized Ultimate in the user field and never had that problem even with the built-in one active. Maybe because I also use a private dns adblocker on my devices.
I think the developer is from Korea as there are references to Korean legalities if you dig a little. I use this browser for daily casual surfing and it's fantastic but my main browser is also Samsung for secure and private stuff. Best of both worlds.
Well I use YouTube app and not vanced and it's not working. Toggle is set correctly and as I said some apps are starting, example "eBay Kleinanzeigen".
Ofcourse it's browsers fault if 3rd party reddit client is not starting IF it's registered in system as default reddit client.
Well written browsers always open apps properly: Samsung Browser, Firefox, Yandex and so on, because they respect those flags.
I don't want to need use vpn for adblocking.

I think it was for donations but doesn't seem to work anyway.
Thanks for letting other people know about this browser.
I am not a advanced user. I only want a browser with adblocker and simple interface. I don't know about hosts, dns, etc.,
I have used Via, OH, Berry, Fulguris, Stargon, Onbibi browsers. Soul mixes all these into one.
Thanks
One thing missing is reader mode. Some old websites won't "work" mobile without it, example:
Infinite-baffle

I totally agree about how nice this browser is but I'm also VERY MUCH concerned about the risk of privacy violation. Anyone has additional info about this ?
To the author if he's reading us: why don't you show up and talk about this important aspect of your (fantastic) app ?
Cool browser. But there's no option to import passwords
This was my daily browser for a while but now things are getting out of control. So much customisations as I like but not working flawlessly. Sad that no developer communication exist and bugs are not getting fixed.
Really like this browser but I have one really annoying issue : when watching a video in full screen landscape mode and would like to adjust something and tap the screen, the navigation bar do not disappear automatically...
Anybody faced this issue?
