Sense 3.0 rotation feature... - HTC EVO 3D

Not sure everyone noticed but when sliding between the 7 home screens, if you slide it slowly with your finger, then you'll notice that the widgets are starting to pop out more. This effect is just like compiz for Linux.
Compiz sample pic:

That's pretty cool. I also noticed when on the homescreen with the weather widget, place a finger on top left of screen, and a finger on the bottom right of screen, then swipe left finger up at same time as right finger down, it brings up the screen where it shows all 7 screens.....hope you can follow that, haahaa!

The pinching in swiping that brings up all 7 screens can be done at any position and any screen, just start by having two fingers apart and pinch in then u get it. Cool thing with 3.0 is that you can slow motion this process.

I was hoping this would be a thread about how you had enabled landscape mode on the EVO 3d like on the flyer. Stupid that EVO 3d has this rotation locked

i was hoping this was a thread that had a way to disable the carousel when swiping fast..When i want to get to a screen fast the stupid thing spins..Dumb feature, cool at 1st yes but when it comes down to every day use the carousel is stupid.

I don't know about all that pinching stuff to get the 7 screens, its easier just to hit the home button when on the home screen. I don't know if this was on my EVO 4G, but i like when I'm using the browser, you can long press the return key and it brings up the history.

You can also see the gears on the side of the flip clock.

Is there a way to turn off the carousel effect? Especially at unlock, it's really annoying and actually detracts from performance.

Nope sorry. Just download spare parts and slow down the animations so it don't take off as much.

I've learned that the carousel will only go if you swipe over more than half the screen. As long as you do short swipes it works a lot better.

Contact HTC to update the carousel

There's a great live wall paper called "MultiPicture Live Wallpaper" by IIIIIT. It allows the wall paper to change every time you change your screen (out of the 5 screens available). The new sense on the 3D have disabled it because it displays screen 5 and the live wall paper can not function properly.
Also, the carousel is overly sensitive. What's the point of being able to spin all 5 screens?
So, if you can contact HTC to try to have these problems fixed. I know others are having issues as well, I just don't know what they are.
This is what I sent HTC:
With the new sense on the Evo 3D, the new carousel disables reporting which screen you're on. This is affecting many users in many ways. Could you please update it so that developers can once again make the calls to find out "which screen" is being displayed?
Thanks
You can contact them here:

I agree that the carousel is an awful "feature." What's the big deal, SPB Mobile Shell did this on Windows Mobile many moons ago. I find it annoying because if I swipe too hard, I get a spinning window and I don't end up on the screen I wanted. I now have to be extra careful when I swipe. That's just silly.
This is so pointless.

What's my choice to disable that, yet keep sense 3.0?
How about my choice to change sensitivity so it doesn't do a full 360?
And i'm being serious, not a wiseass. Is there a setting we can access to change this?
AND BTW, Mr. Orange, you will now be Mr. Pink! Because someone else is Mr. Orange.
Sense has 7 screens.
I think the carousel and static wallpaper should be optional, because i like both the carousel and the static wallpaper. I also understand that others don't. HTC provide us with some new check boxes in the "Personalize" menu

You said it, an option to use or not use would be ideal. Please let HTC know!

The carousel effect is cool, IMO, and there are some features implemented within it that make it better. Some of these features people may not know about and which will make their experience with the carousel slightly better.
First, it really isn't that sensative. I have only accidentally initiated it once, when I dragged my finger across the entire screen.
With the 360 effect, it always returns to the screen you were previously on, never the main home screen (unless that happens to be the one you are on).
When the spin is initiated, you can make it continue to spin the same direction by swiping it over and over, and you can also get it to spin in the oposite direction by swipping the other way. Once the spin has been initiated, you don't have to do the long strokes across the screen to keep it spinning.
If you simply tap on one of the spinning screens, the spin will immediately stop on the screen you tapped on. If you hold your finger on the screen after you tapped on it, it will stop the carousel spin, but remain in that carousel screen, which you can then guide to the screen you want where it will stop.
The carousel is actually really cool if you know how to use all of the features built into it.
Not being a smart ass, but what the hell lol. Why do you guys have to swipe so hard? I never have a problem getting to the screen i want...

Thanks for the tips, but still for me, there's 1 main issue, I can't use a particular live wall paper because the system call returns screen 5, and that there causes the problem and was told it can't be worked around.
The major problem for most is not that they swype to hard, but with just a little of a flick the screens will rotate 360. What for? Although I will say that I like that the screen on the right most will continue on to the screen on the left most of screens.
But, an option to disable would definitely be the fix for some of this. Sensitivity would fix the rest.

I still don't have that problem buy maybe we differ on our opinion on what a little flick is. The reason they included it is for eye candy. I see no other reason really.

I have never accidentaly enabled carousel effect while swiping. Everytime I make it happen by actually showing it off to someone. Never happens on accident. So I really dont think it is over sensitive.
You guys know what? After reading all of the comments, I did some testing. If you give it a good swype, it won't spin around as long as you don't swype more than half the width of the screen. Once you go past that distance, the 360 kicks in.
Try it for yourselves and check it out.
I guess I must be used to the evo and it's slightly wider feeling screen and that is causing problems for me and some others.
All the other functions of the carousel are useless to me and I see t hem as only eye candy... which can be better used with the mult live wall paper

Screen moves the opposite direction

Weird. I think this is on most android tablets not just prime.
EDIT: Thanks for point it out guys! So this is a feature. If you tap on the sides it will scroll towards that direction. So its like a quick tap and scroll without really scrolling. Like what ready2mosh said, paddle shifters lol. Sweet I like this feature.

thats because your tapping the edge of the screen . its not picking up the slide motion
Hi, Whats the Agenda and Calendar widget you are using?
Thanks
There is nothing wrong with this, if you look at the left and right side when you tap or swipe over the screen, there are 2 light blue lines. If you tap in those areas the screen is told to move to that side, and since you are barely swiping across the screen, it cannot register that you are swiping, but only tapping.
Swiping motion is for the middle of the screen, edges are for flip control. Think of it as paddle shifter on F1 cars, much easier to shift (change page) with paddle than a stick(swiping).

[REF] -IN PROGRESS- Things the manual should have told you

Hey all!
The below information is for STOCK devices (or ROM's that are Stock and not using a custom launcher)
This is a Work In Progress, so if you have any tips that you found should have been in a manual, please feel free to post these and I will add them to the OP.
I just got my note yesterday and had to Google to find things that SHOULD have been covered in a manual or quick reference that wasn't.
Please keep in mind that this is my FIRST Samnsung phone (always been an HTC guy) so I am new to Samsung+Android+Touch Wiz and am guessing that I am not the only one.

Screen Capture Without the S Pen (Thanks kimtyson)
You can screen capture without the S Pen by placing your right hand perpendicular to the right side of the screen (in a karate chop position) and sweeping left. If you are left-handed, you can use your left hand in the same manner, sweeping left to right.
Change Brightness (Thanks Boris Sidis)
Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.

Those are pretty standard among android phones...My addition for the note would be using your palm or side of hand to take a picture.

True to a point. Those that have had Samsung phones and know how to use and navigate Touch Wiz, probably. But I know several folks that jumped ship from HTC to Samsung and we're all new and learning.
Thanks for the input though!
Could you go into more detail as to what you mean by using my Palm or side of my hand to take a pic so I can add it?
Thanks!

I don't know if you realize he was just making a sincere suggestion. If you "karate chop" it you get a screen cap.

Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.
Holding down on the notification bar and swiping for brightness will only work if you don't have auto brightness enabled. You can also take a screenshot by pressing Home and Power at the same time. I find that easier than karate chopping my phone.
This is normally presented to people when they set up their phones, but just in case someone skipped it, if you hold down the side button on the S-pen and double tap the screen, it opens up an s-memo over whatever app you're in so you can jot a quick note. There is also an option for this during phone calls.
EDIT: Here's a few other tricks that I haven't tested personally, but have heard from various sources:
1. If you are playing music and place your palm over the display, it quickly mutes the music.
2. While playing a video, tapping the power button will lock the display so it won't respond to touches. Pressing again will disable.
3. If you have motion activation enabled in your settings, when the phone rings you can flip it over to silence the ringtone.
4. Swiping a contact's name to the left in your contact list will quick-create a new message to them. Swiping to the right will call them.
Heres another, if you swype your fist accrpss the screen it takes a screenshot
Edit:nvm

Wish this worked without CheeseWhiz, odd it matters as the notification bar is framework, not launcher, but I couldn't make it work. Then again, I rarely managed to make the same function work in Cyanogen 7 either..
EDIT: Oops, yeah I'm an idiot, I had Automatic on, it works fine regardless of launcher.

[Q] Vertically scrolling homescreen with dock on the side

First of all, I sincerely apologize if this is the wrong section for such a post.
Basically I trying to setup a homescreen in which part of it can scroll vertically, but another part doesn't move. I currently have Lightning Launcher, which is great by the way, but I can only set it up so that the entire screen scrolls. I was thinking it would be nice for have a spot on the left side of the screen for favorite apps and maybe some widgets (I guess you could call it a "dock"), and on the right side of the screen have a scrolling list of the rest of my applications. Probably with 1/3 of the screen being the left portion and 2/3 being the right portion. Can this be done with Lightning Launcher? or any other launcher? and how?
Anyone?

It can be done with Lightning Launcher.
I am a fan, actually.
First, select the apps you want in the dock.
Then, line them up on one side of the screen.
For each, long press in the new version and select pin.
In the old one, you go to common itms setting or something.
After you pin, you can add a dock by giving the apps backgrounds.

Any way to show notifications from the bottom up?

Coming from phones with smaller screens, I like to be able to drag down the notification bar enough to see who the email is from or what the notification is about, without having to pull it all the way down and back up. With the bigger screen on the EVO LTE, I'm wondering if there is a way to show the notifications starting at the bottom, so I can see them with only a slight pull on the bar, instead of having to drag all the way down.
Anyone know? Don't think it matters, but I'm on Meanrom 1.4 with S-Off.
THANKS
When CM9 or 10 is available to us you can enable tablet mode and it will place your notification bar on the bottom.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
You can just flick the notification bar down, you don't have to drag it the full length of the screen. All it takes is about the width of the bar itself to send it down or back up. I know that's not an answer to your question, but it's an option.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Figure I'd bump this rather than start a new thread. I'd also love to be able to have the notification bar at the bottom of the screen, within easy reach of my thumb without requiring me to fumble with the phone. Is there any sort of standalone mod that will do this while I'm waiting for ParanoidAndroid to eventually (hopefully) make its way to the EVO LTE.
There is a WIP paranoid android ROM in the original development section. Works great and loving the ROM.

Well hey look at that! Thanks for the heads up -- I must've completely missed it.
You could also use a custom launcher and set the 1 finger pull-down to open the notification menu. Though trying to reach the settings and clear button are still impossible unless you have fingers like ET.

Yeah - I've already got it so that it pulls down with a quick swipe. My problem is the location of the Power Controls and the Clear button.
I tried PA on my phone but I didn't like the implementation; it's much better on my n7. Even at the biggest settings, the notification panel is just too small on the Evo.
All I really want is a perfect vertical mirror of the notification bar as it is now. In other words, still full screen, it just swipes upward and all the buttons are at the bottom of the screen. I'm actually a little surprised it's not an existing mod / feature, considering how many massive phones there are now and how many of us don't have spindly alien fingers.
