Noticed something kinda cool - HTC EVO 3D

I was playing around with 3d viewing angles today and I discovered that there's 3 possible angles to see 3d. There's dead on (duh) but if you tilt the phone to the right or left until the banding stops, you can definitely still see the depth in the picture. To make sure a closed one eye and then the other and the screen was properly displaying the separate images to each eye. I thought this was pretty sweet, anyways just felt like sharing

Sweet
Sent from my Evo!

I noticed this yesterday when pimping the 3D stuff to a friend. He was looking at it straight on and I was off to the right. But it still looked 3D to me. I thought it was a fluke and didn't investigate further. But is cool nonetheless.

happened today when i was showing off the greenhornet.
In my mind i was like " how can i still see it so clearly from this angle?".

Also you can edit the 3D pictures and Move the 3D effect of your photos left or right or simply save it as 2D.

there's actually about 5 total viewable position, the center one, and 2 on each side

Yeah, we noticed a few other ones while a bunch of people were trying to look at a 3D movie clip

Yes, but the ones directly to the left and right are going to give inverse images.

also if you close one eye and look at a 3d image and tilt the phone left and right youll see it to

Different Screen Manf.?

Anyone know if the 3D has different LCD manufactures, like the EVO 4G (EPSON/NOVATEC) ?
I ask b/c i just replaced my phone due to it randomly freezing and the new one seems different. Maybe its just me, but the first one i had seemed like it had brighter whites.
both phones are HW002.
Thanks!
I'll check my dads and my girls E3D's to see if I notice any difference. I'll post back soon.

cool, thanks,, im very curious.. i hate it when i start doubting my own eyes lol.
My 3vo has a noticeably purer white display than my wife's. They are both from the sprint pre sale. Hers looks like a warmer color temp than mine.

I effen knew it.. darn it LOL.. i knew something was up.. i prefer the brighter white!
I picked the brighter white before I activated them. Interestingly when I compared to my Evo 4G the 4G looks red! Flipz, of Fresh Rom fame mentioned that the color temp was warmer on his 3vo in his review compared to his 4G. Pretty strange.

can you post up a picture with auto brightness vs max brightness with both phones side by side for me?
really appreciate it.
Thank you,.
Big difference on my phone between 50% and max brightness. The whites are dingy at 50% and brilliant at 100%.
I did notice the same thing.. what bothers me is that at auto or anything less than 100%, my previous evo3d looked as white as my current evo prob @ 80%.
this to me literally will equate to battery life.
bump... if someone who has multiple EVO3d's can post up the screen differences, i would greatly appreciate it.
I assume you mean both 3vo's side by side. Unfortunately my wife works the opposite shift so hers isn't here.

why doesn't the EVO need glasses, but our in house 3D TV's do?

just wondering

Different screen technologies. The Evo uses a parallax screen which blocks one eye from seeing what the other eye can see which creates the 3D effect. See here for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallax_barrier
Hence when you close one eye you lose 3d because you arent seeing one of the images at all. And when you are looking at 3d media if you change the viewing angle a lot the image will flutter.

because the 3d on the evo is a gimmick, and 3d on tvs is not.
TV uses glasses with a shutter IIRC, wherein the glasses simulate a left/right motion or up/down (or both) 120+ times a second to help create the 3d effect.
Or I could be totally wrong, I'm just trying to recall what I was told....
Shutter Glasses are vital signs for creating a 3D effect. The shutter glasses are basically an expensive pair of glasses, which has a layer liquid crystal on lenses that turns dark when voltage is applied. Infrared help in signal transmission to sync the Shutter Glasses with the 3D TV set and it’s electronic circuits controls them in creating the 3D impact, when they are worn while watching TV.
The content for 3D are basically pulled out from three major sources.

As per... http://discusstech.org/2011/01/how-does-a-3d-tv-work/
All I know, my head hurts when watching too much 3D on an in-home 3D TV.
EVO 3D it isn't too bad.
Cool
And the reason why they don't make TV's like this?
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Proximity... You'd need to remain in a relative position to have optimum viewing of the displayed media for the EVO 3D.
I can sit in almost any location where our 3D TV is located and have a decent view of the screen still.
EVO 3D, I have to keep it in a good somewhat consistent location to view it decently.
The wikipedia posting above has a lot of good information for how our phones work.

Because the screen on the 3vo requires your eyes to be between certain distances from the screen, and facing it head on in order for the effect to work. With TV, people will all be watching from different angles and distances, so it won't work for that.

Toshiba is working on glasses free 3dtv. They had a prototype of them at this past CES in January. It worked pretty good and you didnt have to stay in one spot or view it face on.
I can't find the link (more like too lazy right now), but it was just out at a convention in China I believe...
Lenticular lens lay over sheets to be placed on devices up to 23" for an affordable price are coming out in the near future it looks like.
Glasses-less 3D TV's are just around the corner... We're not that far off in technology land.

Let me guess faster because a benchmark told you so??
i used the NS4G and it was so bad it made waiting for the 3D horrible. I hate that thing.

I must be sick... I love the 3d

I'm told that it is a gimmick, and that it should give me headaches. But it isn't and it doesn't. I actually love the feature that turns an otherwise boring also-ran smartphone into something different.
Before, I was one of the biggest naysayers, expecting to hate this phone and wait for something next. But I'm hooked. I may need to see a professional. Or we could form a meeting. Who's coming with me?

We the people in IRC don't think you're worthy to call it a 3VO.
E3D is much better.
You make it sound like a Vaginal Santa Claus, VO VO VO!
It's kinda crazy but either you see the 3D or you don't. My wife has a really hard time picking it up but the 3D snaps right into focus for me. I love to take pics with my DSLR but now I'm looking at things and seeing what would be interesting to capture in 3D. I initially thought I wouldn't use it much but I've been pleasantly surprised and will use it a lot more often.
The 3D pictures taken by the EVO 3D look absolutely amazing on a 3D TV. While I think the display on the phone looks great in both modes, seeing them in full resolution on a large TV really makes the depth shine.
I have no problem seeing the display in 3D - I made it almost half an hour in to Green Hornet before I got sick of the movie itself. I look forward to more games and movies, but until then, I will spend a lot of time taking 3D pictures of everything, because it looks so cool.
The pron is in this section somwehere

I think the difficulty some people have with seeing it is that first, if you hold closer than 12 inches, it is very difficult (almost impossible) to see the 3D effect. Second, you actually have to make your eyes focus beyond the screen, which just does not come easy for some people.
I totally agree with the OP, I was always like 3D? whatever I'm getting it for the processor and battery and screen res. But the 3D part is actually really cool, and more exciting than I thought; I'm sold on it. it will definitely be the future of all things visual, I think sooner rather than later.
they just need to figure out better viewing angles for TVs and computer screens for glasses free, and it'll be 3D everything.

If you want 3d native menu lol

So I just got an eye.exam and.had to get my eyes dialated after a while I noticed that when I look at the icon on my phone there are actaully semi 3d. The icon.come out and casts a second image behind it looks pretty cool.
Quick, put on your flame retardent suit!
