Hey Guys
Just joined the android bunch when the wife got me a new Xperia X10 for my b'day/anniversary. Its awesome and i'am loving every bit of it especially the personalization part of it.
However coming from the iPhone I have a few queries and would be great if someone could help me with it. Have searched the forums and haven't really got any useful info of it (mind you i could have terrible searching skill, btw did anyone see my keys??)
I have two mail id's like most people. One is my personal gmail id and the other is my corporate mail id. I have configured them both onto my phone and I'am indeed recieving all mails without a glitch. Unfortunately I don't have an option of sorts to configure my office calendar to sync with the native app. The calendar option does not exist for the second mail option(The option to sync my personal gmail calendar exists and is working fine).
However while using the iphone3g previously I was able to simultaneously use both the calendars (gmail & corporate) and an update on either of the two calendars from my desktop would show on the calendar.
Question1
Is it possible to have a similar system on the android as well. The backend for my corporate mail is provided by gmail and so is the calendar and everything in it. Someone suggested elsewhere that i could share the calendar to my personal mail and i could use it that way. Unfortunately it not enabled for me and the only option for sharing lets my personal account to see if I'm free or engaged at any time. This would be of very limited use to me.
Question 2
Whenever i receive a mail with a calendar invite on the corporate id, the mail appears empty with a small attachment. Using the preview option on the mail app displays text based data that pretty much random stuff overlaid on the meeting name etc(i guess this is the program info or something). Is there anyway if and when i receive an invite i would be able to add them to my calendar or refuse it right-away etc..
These two queries are the biggest of my worries as of now on the otherwise enjoyable experience. I'm terrible sorry for the long post but thought I'd give as much info as possible.
Thanks for your time and help!!
Cheers!!
PS: Some background info, Phone: Xperia X10i, Firmware 2.1-Update1(India), unrooted, baseband 2.1.54. If there is any other app that would help me do the same(Paid or Free), it would be awesome.
Hi there,
I use my phone in a similar way, I have 4 accounts in my gmail app. 3 corporate and 1 personal. If I can remember back to 2.1 (eclair) you can only have 1 gmail account in that app. Then you have to use the mail app for up to 5 more (not sure about moxier mail, I never used it).
Basically what your best doing is rooting the phone to get it up to 2.2 (froyo) that way use have much more control over what sync's from each account. I would recommend tripnraver's froyo. He has a new 1.2.0 coming tonight. You do have to put up with some minor bugs, but the benefits far out weigh the negatives.
A lot also depends on what type of email accounts they are. Either way froyo is way better for your needs.
If you don't wish to dabble with your new present, wait a few months when sony bring out 2.3.4 gingerbread!
I have had a few close shaves, while flashing my phone but approx 10 roms later, I'm pretty sure it's hard to brick it. Worst case restore it back using the sony software.
Hope that helps.

Anyone recommend a "one size fit all email app" like the iphone, for Att S2?
I'm using Exchange, yahoo, gmail. I have lots of folder in my exchange mail and the stock Mail is sux.
Moxier mail is good but only have 1 email acc. I need an app that can put all mails in one place and showing folders instead of coupel apps for emails.
Thanks
I use Gmail for all of my accounts. I set Gmail up to retrieve (pop) mail from my Yahoo account and my other email address forwards to Gmail. I have labels set up, which allows me to organize it. I've been doing this for a while and it works really well.
What about Exchange, all folder will show or i have to go settings and choose specific folder to view? it's a pain in the bu.. . I really like the way iphone's emails handle.

I've never used Exchange, but if you were able to successfully configure it for pop retrieval, it'd work just as your other email addresses, in terms of how you view them (outlined below). Otherwise, perhaps forwarding is an option. For the email address I have forwarding, I set up filters (scans incoming emails for defined rules) to apply labels (e.g., when the sender or recipient is ______, apply this label). It's something you'd have to toy around with, but I've gotten mine set up pretty well.
All emails would show in your Gmail account inbox (with labels on each one, if you've done this) and you have the ability to specifically select a label to only see mail with that label. This is something you can do online or on your device via the Gmail app (viewing individual labels). I've tried just about every email client and I've found that this method is what works best for me.
Good luck.

I was set up like this as well for quite some time - and it worked well. Recently switched to using maildroid, which I like, but haven't customized to get more functionality than I had with gMail yet...
What's wrong with the stock mail client? Seems really nice to me. Should support all of those account types and you can switch folders very easily.

Back in my Captivate days, I found the stock email client to be unreliable. Ever since then, I've been avoiding it.

The problem is with stock email. My folders didn't go in order some + subfolders.... Moxier mail gives exactly the folder in order like the outlook also display the number for new email....like the MS Outlook in computer.
I just reinstalled Moxier mail and use stock mail for yahoo, gmail also. Oh well, no choice

Well this one isn't the same one as the Captivate had, but I'll take your word for it.

Touchdown is a pretty good one, but you have to pay for it.
I used to use enhanced email on my cappy

The stock email client is very nice and seems to work very well with Exchange. From what I've seen so far:
1) Tasks will sync
2) Folders are supported, much nicer and easier than with the Captivate
3) Flags are supported
4) Various display options such as first line preview, threaded emails, etc
5) Out of Office settings can be made from phone.
6) You can search emails on the server, not just those on your phone
7) In landscape it'll do a preview pane on the right-hand side. Not bad.
Try it, you've got nothing to lose. Seems pretty nice so far. The only thing I am missing is the ability to "check" multiple emails and take an action on a group of them (e.g., delete them all). You need to do it one-by-one. But so far it works well.
Anybody know if the stock email client can be set up for "push only" so it doesn't poll every x minutes for new mail?
Another vote for enhanced email. You can bypass exchange security rules

Enhanced Email is what youre looking for. I'm a huge Exchange user and this program easily integrates and works just like it does on iphone. You can choose which folders to keep in sync and it will notify you whenever a new message arrives in sub-folders.
The only problem I have with the stock email app is that you can't "Select All" and delete. That capability, and the ability to forward emails by clicking on several contacts and adding them , as the stock program does, are two features I really like; however, I can't find an email program that has both capabilities.

I installed Enhance email. However, it looks alike stock mail (may be I haven't explorer it much). I do like Moxier mail because it's giving me the interface just like Outlook (folder is in order same as my work laptop). Unfortunately, Moxier mail only have 1 account. Wish i can add other acc then it should be PERFECT
Is there a way to replicate subfolders for a corporate active sync? Android is the only OS I know of that does not allow subfolder replication native to the APP. Touchdown you can do this, so I'm sure there's a way to make the default app do this. Just hate the idea of having to pay $20 for something that really should be built into the stock app.

Seems like most here don't have much experience with your problem, myself included.
Did some searching and found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-800472.html
Doesn't seem like there's any popular free alternatives (best bet will be k9 email for free, but not sure how well it will help your situation), but this will at least point you in the right direction and give you a few things to check out.
I know roadsync is half the cost of touchdown.

Not sure exactly what you mean.
My subfolders and their contents show up fine.
I do know that the emails that fall outside your sync date range will not show up, but that is not due to them being in a subfolder.
Now, if you have a client rule on Outlook that moves a message to a different folder, that may not work because your phone receives messages directly from Exchange, not your Outlook client. If your phone gets it first and you read it before Outlook gets it, Outlook may not process the rule, and thus the message may not move to the desired subfolder.
My phone using the default ROM rooted of course and using the standard email.apk shows all sub-folders on my inbox on both my corporate active-sync email as well as my home IMAP server.
Or are we missing what your asking for? Or like the previous person said do you have REALLY old email in there? If so just change your date range.
Also remember that some exchange servers "enforce date range max's" this is to put less load on their servers.
Here's what I'm trying to convey. I have several teams around the nation and have subfolders under my inbox for each team member. I have rules on the Exchange server that allows when someone to send me an email, the email goes righ to the right folder. On Blackberry, iPhone, and WM, I've been able to go into settings, tell it that I want it to 'push' email for those folders, so that when someone emails me and Exchange moves the folder for me automatically, I still know about it on my phone.
With the default email app on the Androids, I can go into my folders, but it's like a manual push. So if I want to see if I have any new email from one of the team members, I have to manually pick that folder and wait for it to sync. If I have new email, it shows up. If not, I just see the old stuff from the last time I synced it.
In Touchdown, you can pick which folders in replicate in settings. Anytime I get new email that is moved to those folders, I still get a notification that I have new email, can access the email instantly, and don't have to manually move the email to the appropriate folder. Does that clarify things a little better? Thanks.
I have a strange problem with the default email app. There's like 10 copies of each email, doesn't save sent emails, don't send deleted emails to Trash folder. Anyone facing the same problem? Any available solution?

How are you configuring your email? Is it a windows live account, yahoo, gmail, etc?
Is it POP3, IMAP, or Exchange?
Personally I had a problem when configuring my windows live account with the default (Exchange) method. Whenever I send an email, it gets sent twice or thrice! I worked-around this issue by using POP3, which has many shortcomings, but it solved that issue.
Windows Live Messenger (@msn.com), it was automatically configured. Do you recommend a certain configuration? Thanks!

The issue I had with duplicate emails was resolved after updating to 3.2
I have a new galaxy tab 10.1 running 3.2 and still have the issue with multiple emails going out, and items not deleting from my deleted mail.
I've tried the stock email as well as K9. I own my own domain and use my own email. I've set it up as an IMAP account. I also have a Samsung Epic and always had the same issue there too.
I really would like a fix for this. It's pretty ridiculous that 'email' is such an issue. It's not like it's a new technology.
Help..
R
I got same prob with gmail app and my google acc. on my tab (running on Overcome Rom with Pershoot Kernel)
Maybe it has something to do with coustom rom's?
Not sure it has to do with custom Rom. I'm still using stock on my galaxy tab.
The stock Samsung email app is OK but robust it is not. If you want more consider AquaMail Pro. Free trial and a few bucks to own. Very good looking and powerful. Keep all of your email addresses in one spot.
I have no connection to the app other than I own and like it.
K9 mail real good opensource mail client.

i like the Sammy Email but +1 on free and robust
I agree Aquamail is quite nice IMO. Did not take long for me to get the pro version... For couple bucks it is well worth it.... Knowing also how much work is required to access exchange via ews the app is in fact cheap... Only complain is no sync with Outlook contact and calendar AFAIK.
Thanks for the heads up on this app that deserves it.
Cloudmagic is great too

blue mail it's the best.... ????
If I require mail, contact and calendar sync with 3 Exchange accounts what is the best non stock email app for me to try? I have been hating the inaccurate notification style of the stock Samsung email app
Nine is my email app of choice. Plus it shows the exchange calendar in the stock calendar app.

+1 for Nine. I have been looking for a good Exchange Email App and when I found Nine I knew I hit gold! It is by far the best Exchange Email app around... and I have tried many.

If MS Exchange compatibility is your prioirity you cant beat Touchdown. It is not free however. But you can get a free trial to try it out. For me its well worth the price.
Yes, Cloudmagic. I just went through and tried most of them, and Cloudmagic I've been using for about a week. Aquamail did look good, I just didn't have the time to go through and learn all the functionalities of it. I'll probably give it another try once I'm able to spend more time learning it.

But Gmail doesn't have push notifications
Is it only the included mailapp (and calendar) from Samsung that works with the tab after papergarden? I assume you know what I'm talking about, no? On videos from YouTube I believe the widgets covering the calendar and mail widgets are yellow and green.
If third party mail/calendar apps doesn't work together with said widgets, isn't it better to stick with the stock apps?
No way.. Blue mail is the one. They will repond quickly also if you send in ab issue. Plus its works constantly for push on mulitple accounts. Stock for some reason goes to sleep and emails come in up to 1 hour late. I thought google would have fixed the isue from note 3. Not every since they stopped supporting exchange mail settings 2 years ago.
who runs blue mail? There no info who they are?
I like mailbox, perfect for me.
type mail
It's fairly new but I love it I think it's better than aquamail pro, I have them both downloaded but I think Type Mail is alot faster. Did I mention completely free.
